How Much Does Pregnancy follow-up Cost in Poland?

Pregnancy follow-up in Poland typically costs from $100 to $100. Prices depend on the clinic tier, city, and chosen testing protocols. In the US, similar care costs around $600 on average. Patients in Poland save approximately 67% compared to US rates. Essential services usually include routine consultations, basic laboratory tests, and standard diagnostic ultrasounds.

  • Routine consultations: Expect to pay 15-20% more for senior specialists or professors.
  • Diagnostic ultrasounds: Specialized genetic or prenatal scans usually command a higher premium.
  • Advanced blood work: Specialized fetal DNA tests like NIFTY or SANCO are additional costs.
  • Regional variations: Major hubs include Warsaw, Gdansk, Krakow, and Lodz for specialized obstetric care.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Poland offers a high-value balance between technical expertise and affordability. Clinics like INVICTA in Gdansk serve over 10,000 patients annually. They prioritize advanced diagnostic protocols often found in top-tier European centers. Seeking care in cities like Lodz at RMED Kopernika can offer more personalized attention. This approach often provides significant savings compared to the largest private medical networks in Warsaw.

All expectations were more than met
We chose Hinzentrum Klinikum Kotowice - we have never regretted our choice. From the moment we met the coordinator to the last visit to the clinic, all the steps came without any obstacles or disappointments. The coordinator Vera is a wonderful, responsive person, never left without attention, was in touch in case of any need. The visit and acquaintance with the doctor, Vera was organised taking into account all our wishes. We had an interpreter waiting for us at the clinic - Alona. She accompanied us at every visit to the clinic, so there were no problems with communication. We had the opportunity to ask her for help at any time. The clinic staff is generally pleasant and smiling. Alicia Gajevska-Kuharek is a doctor who knows what she is doing, is open to dialogue, answers all our questions and is completely trustworthy. In general, all stages of the protocol were organised in a timely manner, quickly, all information was available and most importantly, all our questions were answered. All expectations were more than met.
Accessibility of staff.
It's okay.

Good afternoon, I would like to share my story of my trip to the Hyncentrum Katowice clinic. We decided to cooperate with Bookimed and we were provided with a medical coordinator Vera, who suggested this clinic as one of the best. Initially everything went well, everything was clear and understandable, we submitted our analyses and made an appointment for a consultation with a doctor with an interpreter, the coordinator sent us the address of the clinic in Krakow and confirmed our appointment. The journey was not easy and long awaited, we travelled through 3 countries to get to Krakow. We come to the appointed date and time, and we are told that the doctor does not receive in Krakow, he works in Katowice and now waiting for us there, which is an hour's drive and we have no time. And we made an appointment a month before the trip. We contacted the coordinator Wera and asked why this happened and what to do, she said that there was a mistake with the address and the city, she was not informed about the city where the doctor was working. Vera started to contact the clinic in Katowice to re-book us, but there was no answer from there and we asked the reception to help us, to call the clinic and explain the situation, but because of the language barrier, the girl could not understand our situation and said to wait for an interpreter, in a short time the interpreter Lilia appeared and she was able to solve our problem by calling the clinic and re-booking us for the next day, we were very grateful to her! She supported us and calmed us down. Of course it was not pleasant, I was very nervous, as we had a long journey and because of someone else's mistake, we could not get to the appointment, and just leave with nothing. It was good that everything was solved and we had an appointment for the next day. When we arrived in Katowice we were met by the interpreter Alyona, we signed all the documents and the doctor took us in, the consultation with ultrasound took 30 minutes. Alyona translated everything, the doctor said little, in fact, after I went to prepare for the ultrasound, I was sent to a room with a toilet and told to come out and sit on the chair, I saw that the nappy was used, crumpled, torn, not replaced after the previous patient, I asked Alyona to change it, the answer was that they change it after each patient and it is clean. In the preparation room, there was no couch, no chair, no liquid soap to wash my hands, the atmosphere is clearly not the best clinic, I changed my clothes standing up. When I came out, I saw that the napkin on the chair was changed after my words. The doctor gave me an ultrasound without gloves and it lasted 1-2 minutes, all very quickly, the conclusion of the ultrasound on my hands I was not given. Afterwards we were already talking with our interpreter in the corridor and it turned out that there is such a service as online consultation and we could not travel 3500 km for the sake of a 30 minute appointment, which should have been reported to our coordinator with Bookimed. In the end, our expectations were not met, the clinic did not impress us, the coordinator's mistake made us nervous, and the fact that we could have ordered an online consultation and not spent a lot of money on travelling was very upsetting. But in spite of everything, we do not give up, we will continue to move towards our goal, the coordinator was changed and now we are considering other clinics!

Good day. I liked everything. Fast and affordable. The girl liked the doctor and our guide very much. We are only interested in a positive end result! A good relationship for good money is great, but I repeat once again that we applied for the result, and I hope it will please us. We were not in the wards, as the trip was one day
About Bookimed service
Everything is fine. One thing we didn't like was when we came with my husband, we stood for a while until the third time the girl from the reception took the time to pay attention to what a person wants to ask and hear the answer. It was ignored. This is one thing that I did not like at all!!!!

FAQ about Pregnancy follow-up in Poland

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

How many prenatal visits are standard in Poland?

Standard prenatal care in Poland typically involves 10 to 12 visits for low-risk pregnancies. Patients visit monthly until week 32, every 2 weeks until week 36, and weekly after. The first visit must occur before week 10 to ensure eligibility for state newborn grants.

  • Visit frequency: Follow-ups occur every 4 weeks until the 34th week of pregnancy.
  • Mandatory ultrasounds: Clinics perform 3 screening scans at weeks 11-14, 18-22, and 28-32.
  • Provider model: Gynecologists lead most care, requiring 3 specific consultations in midwife-led cases.
  • Postnatal support: Mothers receive 4 mandatory home visits from community midwives after birth.

Bookimed Expert Insight: High patient volumes at centers like INVICTA and RMED Kopernika show a preference for private care. While public insurance covers only 3 basic scans, many patients book 2 to 4 additional private ultrasounds. Specialist clinics in Gdansk and Lodz often provide more detailed monitoring than the public minimum.

Patient Consensus: Expect a faster pace in public clinics. Many suggest starting visits by week 6 and tracking fetal movements closely if regional budget cuts limit visit frequency.

Who provides prenatal care in Poland?

In Poland, prenatal care is provided by board-certified obstetricians and highly trained independent midwives. Most patients use the public National Health Fund or private networks. Midwives manage physiological pregnancies, while obstetricians oversee diagnostic testing, ultrasounds, and complicated or high-risk cases.

  • Obstetricians: Specialists managing routine check-ups and complex clinical cases.
  • Independent midwives: Licensed professionals delivering comprehensive care for uncomplicated pregnancies.
  • Community midwives: Specialists providing prenatal education and essential postnatal home visits.
  • Private clinics: Centers like RMED Kopernika offer consistent provider access and appointments.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While public care is free, major centers like RMED Kopernika in Lodz serve over 6,000 patients annually. Private facilities often provide English-speaking staff, which is crucial for international patients. These clinics typically ensure you see the same specialist at every visit.

Patient Consensus: Patients value the expertise of Polish midwives but often prefer private care. This choice avoids long wait times and ensures better communication during rushed public appointments.

What mandatory tests and scans are performed?

Mandatory pregnancy follow-up in Poland requires a standardized protocol of blood tests, urine analysis, and three core ultrasounds. These include the first trimester dating scan, the second trimester anatomy scan, and the third trimester growth check. Screenings for infectious diseases and gestational diabetes are strictly required.

  • First trimester ultrasound: Confirms heartbeat and dating between 8 and 12 weeks.
  • Combined screening: Measures nuchal translucency plus PAPP-A blood work at 11–14 weeks.
  • Anatomy scan: Provides a detailed organ examination between 18 and 22 weeks.
  • Infectious screening: Mandatory tests for HIV, Syphilis, and Hepatitis B protect the baby.
  • Glucose test: Standard tolerance screening for gestational diabetes occurs at 24–28 weeks.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While public healthcare covers basic scans, private clinics often market extra growth monitoring at 32 and 36 weeks. You can follow standard care or opt for these additional sessions. Always request physical copies of lab reports. This prevents paying for repeat tests if you switch providers.

Patient Consensus: Patients note that public clinics can feel crowded and rushed. Many choose private clinics specifically for longer ultrasound sessions and more detailed explanations of their results.

Is prenatal care free for foreigners in Poland?

Prenatal care in Poland is free only for foreigners with National Health Fund (NFZ) coverage through legal employment. Insured individuals may also register unemployed spouses for free care. EU citizens qualify using a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), while others pay out-of-pocket at private clinics.

  • Insurance eligibility: Standard employment contracts or voluntary monthly contributions grant access to public maternity services.
  • Included services: Coverage includes gynecologist check-ups, blood tests, ultrasounds, labor, and postpartum midwife visits.
  • Private costs: Uninsured patients pay $100 to $300 for individual private pregnancy follow-up visits.
  • Savings potential: Average costs in Poland are 67% lower than US prices of $600.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While state care is free for workers, many expats choose private clinics like RMED Kopernika. Public systems often have long wait times for specialized scans. Private clinics serve high patient volumes and offer English-speaking doctors. This ensures faster access to routine screenings during critical trimesters.

Patient Consensus: Visitors usually pay out-of-pocket at private facilities because costs are manageable compared to the US. Most recommend applying for a PESEL number early to secure long-term health eligibility.

What post-partum support is available after giving birth?

Post-partum support in Poland includes mandatory midwife home visits and clinical monitoring during hospital stays. Patients typically receive 1–3 community midwife visits within the first week after discharge. These sessions focus on newborn health, breastfeeding guidance, and maternal recovery assessments to ensure a safe transition home.

  • Hospital monitoring: Stays range from 1–3 days for vaginal births to 5 days for C-sections.
  • Midwife home visits: Professional midwives provide 1–3 mandatory check-ups during the first postnatal week.
  • Specialized consultations: Private clinics offer access to lactation consultants and psychologists for emotional support.
  • Physical recovery: Pelvic floor physiotherapy is available privately starting 6 weeks after delivery.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While public insurance covers essential midwife visits, specialized support like lactation experts is often limited. Centers like RMED Kopernika provide integrated obstetric care that simplifies access to specialists. Bookimed data shows Poland ranks 2nd globally for medical requests, reflecting high standards in private maternity care.

Patient Consensus: Parents recommend arranging private lactation or psychological support early as public waitlists can be long. Many emphasize tracking recovery symptoms daily and proactively requesting referrals from midwives for faster specialist access.
