I highly recommend this hospital for any one looking for a comfortable and honest place to get the best from there surgery
My mother had vascular surgery at Lokman Hekim Istanbul Hospital she came from Chile to get treatments for her varicose veins. I wish to express my deep appreciation for the wonderful care my mother received at Hospital. Everyone from the nurses to the doctors everyone — was absolutely fantastic, professional, caring and outstanding. I can't say one negative thing about the Hospital, we received outstanding care throughout our stay and came home very happy … thank you to our coordinators Ismael and specially Burçin Yeseler for taking excellent care of us. She helped us with everything she took care of every single detail. I want to thank to the drivers and our fantastic nurse Ezra. Doctor Sinan Göçer who performed the surgery was brilliant, he explained everything to us. He was very professional, patience and also very caring we couldn't be in better hands. I highly recommend this hospital for any one looking for a comfortable and honest place to get the best from there surgery. This place is filled of staff that are generally there to help you and most importantly make you feel so welcome with their hospitality. 💙 Thank you so much once again 🙏

To be honest, I am not very satisfied with their work, because after the procedure of sclerotherapy appeared on the arm a large bruise, it hurt and did not pass for a long time for two weeks or more. Also after the procedure in the vein that I was injected with it as it was such and remained, the procedure I consider useless if partially gone, but remained most of the visible.

FAQ about Sclerotherapy of varicose veins in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

When will I see the final cosmetic result?

Final cosmetic results from sclerotherapy in Turkey typically appear within 3 to 6 months. While treated veins begin fading 1 to 2 weeks post-procedure, the body requires several months to fully reabsorb the closed vessels and clear any temporary skin discoloration or bruising.

  • Initial fading: Visible vein reduction starts 1 to 2 weeks after the first session.
  • Bruising duration: Most local bruising resolves naturally within 2 to 3 weeks following injections.
  • Pigmentation clearing: Residual skin staining or brown lines typically fade over 4 to 6 months.
  • Session frequency: Most patients require 2 to 3 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data from specialized centers like Dr. ZAN Vein Clinic shows that using color Doppler ultrasound during the procedure significantly improves long-term accuracy. Clinics in Antalya and Istanbul often include this diagnostic step to ensure all underlying feeder veins are mapped before the final cosmetic injections.

Patient Consensus: Patients report that while veins look blotchy at 3 months, the full transformation is only clear after removing compression stockings and tracking progress with photos for 24 weeks.

Is sclerotherapy safe for everyone?

Sclerotherapy is a safe, minimally invasive procedure for most healthy adults, but certain medical conditions preclude treatment. It is unsuitable during pregnancy, breastfeeding, or for individuals with active blood clots, limited mobility, severe heart defects, or known allergies to sclerosing agents.

  • Pregnancy status: Postpone treatment until 3 months after delivery to ensure patient and fetal safety.
  • Clotting history: Avoid if you have active deep vein thrombosis (DVT) to prevent complications.
  • Mobility requirements: Patients must walk immediately post-procedure to maintain circulation and prevent new clots.
  • Heart health: Conditions like patent foramen ovale may increase rare neurological risks during foam sclerotherapy.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish clinics like Dr. ZAN Vein Clinic specialize exclusively in non-surgical vascular repair, often avoiding anesthesia entirely. While the procedure is safe, data shows US patients save up to 61% here. Choosing a dedicated vein center over a general hospital ensures access to advanced color Doppler mapping for safer results.

Patient Consensus: Most patients report excellent outcomes with no downtime, though some experience bruising or hyperpigmentation for 2 weeks. Using compression stockings as directed is the most cited factor for reducing post-treatment discomfort and swelling.

Why choose Turkey for sclerotherapy?

Turkey is a premier destination for sclerotherapy due to its high concentration of JCI-accredited facilities and specialized vascular centers. Patients benefit from advanced foam and liquid injection techniques performed by internationally trained phlebologists at a fraction of the cost found in the United States or Europe.

  • Cost savings: Patients save 61% compared to the $1,800 average cost in the United States.
  • Clinical expertise: Turkish vascular surgeons often hold memberships in the European Society for Vascular Surgery (ESVS).
  • Modern infrastructure: Clinics like Hisar Hospital Intercontinental were among the first globally to achieve JCI accreditation.
  • Rapid scheduling: Most procedures are scheduled within 1–2 weeks, avoiding long Western European wait times.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many general hospitals offer vascular services, specialized boutique centers like Dr. ZAN Vein Clinic in Alanya focus exclusively on aesthetic vein treatments. These centers often perform hundreds of non-surgical procedures annually using color Doppler ultrasound for higher precision. This focused volume typically translates to more refined cosmetic results for patients seeking treatment for spider veins rather than just medical necessity.

Patient Consensus: Patients value the same-day, incision-free nature of the treatment but emphasize the importance of confirming whether the quoted price covers just one session or the full 2–4 sessions often needed.

Are the results permanent?

Sclerotherapy results for treated veins are generally permanent, as the injection causes the vessel to collapse and eventually dissolve. However, this non-surgical procedure does not prevent new varicose or spider veins from developing over time due to genetics, lifestyle factors, or underlying venous insufficiency.

  • Success rate: Initial success typically reaches 70–80% for visible vein closure after treatment.
  • Recurrence potential: Approximately 20–50% of patients may develop new veins within 1–5 years.
  • Maintenance needs: Touch-up sessions are common for managing smaller veins that appear later.
  • Long-term care: Wearing compression stockings and weight management significantly improve the longevity of results.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Clinics specializing exclusively in phlebology, such as Dr. ZAN Vein Clinic, often achieve more durable outcomes by using color Doppler ultrasound. This technology allows surgeons to identify the exact source of venous reflux. Treating the `root` vein rather than just surface capillaries reduces the chance of quick recurrence.

Patient Consensus: While many patients see an immediate cosmetic improvement, some report that single sessions may leave visible traces. Results are most satisfying when viewed as a multi-step process rather than a one-time fix.

What are the most common side effects?

Most patients experience mild bruising, swelling, and tenderness at injection sites for 1 to 2 weeks following sclerotherapy in Turkey. Temporary hyperpigmentation and small, firm lumps from trapped blood are also standard as the treated veins collapse and begin the natural absorption process.

  • Injection site reactions: Bruising and discoloration typically resolve within 3 weeks of treatment.
  • Skin hyperpigmentation: Brown lines or spots affect 20% to 30% of foam sclerotherapy patients.
  • Physical sensations: Mild cramping or aching is common during the first week of recovery.
  • Trapped blood: Small, hard lumps may form but usually resolve with massage or drainage.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many clinics offer sclerotherapy at various price points, specialized centers like Dr. ZAN Vein Clinic focus exclusively on non-surgical vascular repair. Data suggests that choosing a vascular specialist over a general aesthetician reduces the risk of long-term skin staining and nerve irritation.

Patient Consensus: Patients often report that legs look worse before they look better, specifically noting black and blue discoloration. Wearing compression stockings as directed is the most cited way to manage post-procedure tenderness and swelling.

When will I see the final results?

Final results for sclerotherapy in Turkey typically appear within 3 to 6 months after your last session. While small spider veins may fade in 3 to 6 weeks, larger varicose veins require more time to collapse and be reabsorbed by the body safely.

  • Initial changes: Noticeable fading often begins between 2 to 4 weeks following the first injection.
  • Treatment sessions: Most patients require 3 to 5 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart.
  • Post-procedure appearance: Veins may look darker initially due to inflammation before they eventually disappear.
  • Full resolution: Complete clearing of treated vessels usually stabilizes around the 12-week mark post-treatment.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data from specialized centers like Dr. ZAN Vein Clinic shows that the most successful outcomes come from combining non-surgical techniques with consistent compression. While you are mobile within 48 hours, wearing compression stockings for 2 weeks is the single most important factor for achieving clear skin. Skipping this step often causes veins to remain visible or take twice as long to fade.

Patient Consensus: Patients report that while the procedure is fast, some bruising can last for over 2 weeks. Many emphasize that the results are not instant and advise others to prepare for veins looking temporarily worse before they improve.

How long is the recovery period?

Recovery from sclerotherapy in Turkey is minimal as it is a non-surgical outpatient procedure requiring no hospital stay. Most patients resume normal daily activities within 1 to 3 days, while treated veins typically fade completely and side effects resolve within 2 to 6 weeks.

  • Hospital stay: Patients undergo the procedure and leave the clinic immediately with 0 days hospitalization.
  • Immediate activity: Light walking for 30 minutes is required the same day to promote circulation.
  • Work return: Most individuals return to professional tasks within 48 to 72 hours post-treatment.
  • Compression therapy: Wearing compression stockings is generally advised for 1 to 2 weeks for results.
  • Final results: Full cosmetic improvement and vein fading usually take 4 to 6 weeks to peak.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data from specialist centers like Dr. ZAN Vein Clinic shows that specialized vascular clinics often achieve faster recovery by avoiding general anesthesia entirely. Patients traveling to Antalya or Alanya frequently combine treatment with light tourism since they can fly home safely just 48 to 72 hours after their final injections.

Patient Consensus: Patients report that while bruising peaks around day 7, it is manageable with ice and elevation. Many emphasize that walking immediately after the session is the key to preventing discomfort and ensuring the vein closes properly.

How many sessions will I need for full results?

Most patients require 2 to 4 sessions for optimal results. While spider veins often respond in 2 treatments, larger varicosities may need 4 or more. Full vein closure and fading typically occur 3 to 6 months after the final procedure is completed.

  • Session frequency: Treatments are usually spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart for healing.
  • Initial outcomes: Bruising masks actual results for the first 30 days post-procedure.
  • Treatment approach: Specialists often use color Doppler ultrasound guidance to target deeper veins.
  • Long-term care: Approximately 70% of patients benefit from annual maintenance as new veins form.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Clinics like Dr. ZAN Vein Clinic Antalya & Alanya focus exclusively on non-surgical vein care. Our data shows that high-volume centers performing 700+ annual vein procedures maintain lower complication rates. Choosing a dedicated vein clinic often ensures access to advanced mapping technology like color Doppler ultrasound rooms.

Patient Consensus: Expect visible bruising for at least 2 weeks before seeing the actual fading. Using compression stockings as directed is the most cited factor for achieving smoother skin outcomes.

Is the procedure painful?

Sclerotherapy in Turkey is a minimally invasive procedure typically described as having low pain levels. Patients usually feel small pinpricks or brief stinging sensations during the 30-minute session. Local anesthesia or numbing sprays are standard at JCI-accredited clinics to ensure patient comfort throughout the process.

  • Procedure sensation: Injections feel like brief rubber-band snaps or minor pinpricks lasting only seconds.
  • Anesthesia options: Surgeons use local numbing sprays or lidocaine to minimize needle-entry discomfort effectively.
  • Recovery discomfort: Patients experience mild bruising or tenderness for 1–2 weeks, similar to post-workout soreness.
  • Pain management: Doctors recommend compression stockings and over-the-counter relievers to reduce any lingering internal cramping.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many clinics offer sclerotherapy, choosing a center like Dr. ZAN Vein Clinic that utilizes color Doppler ultrasound is a smart move. Our data shows that ultrasound-guided techniques significantly reduce nerve-related discomfort by ensuring precise needle placement. This technical edge often results in a smoother recovery compared to blind injection methods.

Patient Consensus: Most patients report the experience is much easier than expected, feeling like a few bee stings that fade within minutes. Some mention that wearing compression stockings as advised is the most critical step to managing the temporary achy feeling afterward.
