What Makes Yesim a Trusted Advisor?
Prof. Yesim Yildirim graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in Ankara in 1999, where medicine is taught in English. She completed specialty training in internal medicine at Gazi University and sub-specialty training in medical oncology at Başkent University, qualifying as a medical oncologist in 2007. Early in her career she trained at Rambam Medical Center in Haifa on a Middle East Cancer Consortium grant and took the European School of Oncology's immunology course on a Hans Wyder Fellowship.
After compulsory service at Sivas Numune Hospital, she worked as a medical oncologist at Acıbadem Kozyatağı and Acıbadem Maslak hospitals and taught internal medicine at Acıbadem University as an assistant professor. She became an associate professor in 2011 and joined Anadolu Medical Center the same year. She trained at the immuno-oncology clinic of Mount Vernon Cancer Centre in London in 2015, completed a master's degree in health management at Istanbul Bilgi University in 2018 and became a professor at Haliç University's Faculty of Medicine in 2021. As a Bookimed medical advisor, she reviews cancer treatment content for medical accuracy so patients can rely on clear, credible guidance.
“There's no single way to fight cancer – there's only the way that fits this patient.”
Role on the Medical Advisory Board
Prof. Yildirim reviews Bookimed's cancer treatment content, starting with breast cancer – the diagnosis behind more than half of the patients who travel to her – and extending to pancreatic, bile duct and thyroid cancers, melanoma and lymphoma. Two decades of prescribing chemotherapy, targeted therapy and immunotherapy shape what she checks: whether a page explains which tumour markers decide the choice of drug, what treatment looks like beyond the first cycle, and where immunotherapy helps and where it does not. Where a page presents a new drug as right for every patient, she flags it.
