The priority is to determine whether the lesion is malignant, obtain sufficient tissue for an accurate diagnosis, establish the stage of disease and, when cancer is confirmed, identify molecular characteristics that may influence treatment.

Comprehensive diagnostic plan
• Consultation with Dr. Eduardo Loeb: approximately €350.
• Review of previous CT, X-ray, PET-CT and medical reports.
• Contrast-enhanced chest CT: approximately €500–800 if updated imaging is required.
• PET-CT for staging: approximately €2,800 when clinically indicated.
• Video bronchoscopy with tissue sampling: approximately €2,000–3,500, depending on sedation and biopsy technique.
• CT-guided lung biopsy: approximately €2,500–4,000 when the lesion is better approached through the chest wall.
• Histopathology and immunohistochemistry: approximately €600–1,200.
• Molecular/genetic tumour profiling: approximately €1,500–3,000, only if cancer is confirmed and the oncology team considers it necessary.
• Blood tests and tumour markers: approximately €200–400.
Only one biopsy technique is normally selected according to the lesion’s location; bronchoscopy and CT-guided biopsy are not automatically both required.

Why Centro Médico Teknon
Teknon has a dedicated Thoracic Oncology Unit specialising in lung and other thoracic cancers. Its diagnostic pathway combines CT and PET imaging, histological confirmation through bronchoscopy or image-guided biopsy, and molecular analysis when appropriate. Confirmed cases can then be reviewed with medical oncology, radiation oncology, thoracic surgery and other specialists to establish an individual treatment plan.
Teknon also performs CT-guided thoracic biopsy using CT fluoroscopy, with tissue sent directly to Pathology for histological analysis.
