Trustworthy, reassuring and all round lovely Dr and person About the Doctor: Trustworthy, reassuring and all round lovely Dr and person About the Clinic: Yes - overall support was brilliant
Trustworthy, reassuring and all round lovely Dr and person Thank you - excited be able to enjoy life again! Yes - overall support was brilliant. Fouad from Bookimed was so patient with me and so helpful, and not sure Teresa ever sleeps. Thank you both! However due to timing I think the initial 24 hours I assume would be better usually, but it is holiday season - I think better expectation setting there and having someone on hand at departure who could inform me of the steps and answer my questions - but despite this I am sure the follow up for me in that short window would not being the usual experience as otherwise the support was amazing and I was given time during holidays by Dr G which I value and appreciate - it is an important time of the process though so I would recommend having someone like Mercedes on hand! It’s scary seeing yourself after surgery and I was left feeling very unaware for nearly 48 hours! I do want to highlight that everyone in the hospital was great and professional the two nurses who looked after me directly after the surgery were so lovely and obviously all involved in the surgery and end to end treatment - but extra special thanks to you Mercedes - a really special human and very valuable member and representative of the organisation and hospital! Thank you

There was only one seal, so I advise you to make the documents more official, so that you would not be so scared to pay for the consultation
Passed online consultation. After the consultation, a treatment plan was created, which we will undergo, further consultations will continue. Online consultation is very convenient and of course there were some doubts, especially when the invoice was billed, because it was a bit confusing, there was only one seal, so I advise you to make the documents more official, so that you would not be so scared to pay for the consultation.

FAQ about Blepharoplasty (Eyelid correction) in Spain

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Will the results of blepharoplasty look natural?

Blepharoplasty in Spain produces highly natural results when surgeons use conservative tissue removal and 3D surgical planning. The procedure focuses on restoring a refreshed, brighter appearance by addressing sagging skin and puffiness while carefully preserving the underlying fat pads and natural eye shape.

  • Surgical technique: Surgeons prioritize conservative removal to avoid a hollow or over-tightened look.
  • Technology used: Advanced 3D simulation at clinics like Teknon allows pre-visualizing natural outcomes.
  • Advanced tools: Practitioners at Quirónsalud Marbella utilize all-laser technology for precise, subtle corrections.
  • Recovery phase: Swelling subsides within 3 to 6 months for the final natural appearance.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Spanish plastic surgery hubs like Centro Médico Teknon and Quirónsalud focus on conservative aging strategies. Dr. Javier Herrero Jover, who has performed over 10,000 procedures, uses 3D planning to ensure results align with individual facial anatomy. Choosing a clinic that includes recovery aids, such as PRP sessions found in some Barcelona packages, can significantly speed up the healing process and refine the final look.

Patient Consensus: Patients report that the best results are subtle, making them look well-rested rather than operated on. Most emphasize that while early photos appear tight, the final result looks completely like themselves but brighter.

Am I a good candidate for blepharoplasty?

A good candidate for blepharoplasty in Spain is typically a healthy adult with realistic goals for correcting drooping upper lids or puffy lower bags. Ideal candidates have firm skin elasticity and are free of serious eye conditions like glaucoma or severe dry eye syndrome that might impair healing.

  • Vision obstruction: You benefit from upper surgery if sagging skin blocks your peripheral sight or field.
  • Cosmetic concerns: Lower blepharoplasty effectively treats hereditary under-eye bags, dark circles, and deep tear troughs.
  • Physical health: Optimal results require stable weight and no underlying thyroid or cardiovascular disorders.
  • Skin condition: Candidates should have sufficient skin tone to support repositioned fat and muscle tissue.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many search for surgeons by price, the most successful outcomes in Spain come from specialists using 3D surgical planning. At clinics like Centro Médico Teknon, experts like Dr. Javier Herrero Jover use digital simulations to ensure eyelid symmetry before the first incision. This level of precision is rare in standard procedures and significantly reduces the need for revisions.

Patient Consensus: Many patients share that they finally look as rested as they feel after removing heavy hooding. They often mention that while the initial bruising lasts about 10 days, the boost in confidence is immediate and life-changing.

What is the difference between upper and lower blepharoplasty?

Upper blepharoplasty removes excess skin and muscle from the top eyelid to correct hooding or vision obstruction. Lower blepharoplasty targets fat pads and puffiness beneath the eye. While the upper procedure is often faster, the lower procedure is more delicate, focusing on contouring and skin laxity.

  • Upper eyelid goals: Eliminates sagging skin and hooded folds to restore a bright, open eye appearance.
  • Lower eyelid goals: Removes or redistributes under-eye fat bags and tightens loose skin for smoothness.
  • Surgical technique: Upper incisions hide in natural folds; lower incisions sit inside lids or below lashes.
  • Recovery profile: Upper lid healing is typically faster, while lower lid recovery requires more delicate care.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data from top Spanish centers like Centro Médico Teknon suggests choosing 3D surgical planning for lower blepharoplasty. Since lower lids have a higher risk of contour irregularities, digital simulations help surgeons like Dr. Javier Herrero Jover ensure precision that prevents a hollowed-out look.

Patient Consensus: Many patients choose to combine both procedures for a balanced result. While upper surgery feels straightforward, they often note that managing under-eye swelling requires more patience and structured follow-up care.

Are there any risks associated with eyelid surgery?

Eyelid surgery in Spain is generally safe, but common risks include temporary swelling, bruising, and dry eyes. Rare but serious complications include infection, scarring, or difficulty closing eyes. Choosing a board-certified surgeon with ocular expertise significantly reduces the likelihood of permanent vision changes or revision surgery.

  • Ocular safety: Dry eye risk increases for patients with previous LASIK or glaucoma history.
  • Mechanical issues: Over-resection may prevent lungs from closing fully, requiring complex revision procedures.
  • Lower lid risks: Lower blepharoplasty carries higher incidence of irritation, redness, and chemosis.
  • Surgical precision: Advanced 3-D planning at centers like Centro Médico Teknon minimizes aesthetic errors.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data shows high-volume specialists like Dr. Javier Herrero Jover, with 10,000+ procedures, use 3-D surgical simulation to prevent the hollowed-out look. While Spain offers competitive rates, focus on surgeons who integrate PRP therapy or all-laser techniques. These additions at clinics such as Quirónsalud Marbella are proven to accelerate tissue healing and reduce post-operative bruising.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize that while recovery discomfort is mild, final results take months to appear. Many advise choosing conservative skin removal to prioritize eye health over aggressive cosmetic changes.

Can blepharoplasty be combined with other facial procedures in Spain?

Spanish clinics frequently combine blepharoplasty with other facial procedures to achieve comprehensive rejuvenation. Common pairings include facelifts, brow lifts, and laser resurfacing to address multiple aging signs simultaneously. Surgeons at JCI-accredited facilities often use 3D planning to ensure balanced results across all surgical sites during one session.

  • Facelift integration: Surgeons often combine eyelid surgery with facelifts to harmonize upper and lower facial aging.
  • Brow lift synergy: Pairing procedures corrects sagging brows and upper eyelid hooding in a single recovery period.
  • Laser resurfacing: Clinics bundle laser treatments to improve skin texture and crow's feet around the eyes.
  • 3D simulation: Facilities like Centro Médico Teknon use 3D imaging to visualize combined results before surgery.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Choosing a clinic that offers 3D pre-surgical planning is a major advantage for combined procedures. At Centro Médico Teknon, Dr. Javier Herrero Jover uses this technology to map out multiple adjustments at once. This precision often leads to more naturally balanced features compared to performing separate surgeries months apart.

Patient Consensus: Many patients recommend having upper and lower blepharoplasty done together to avoid mismatched aging. They suggest confirming if anesthesia and facility fees are bundled into one discounted package when combining treatments.

Why should I consider Spain for blepharoplasty?

Spain is a top destination for blepharoplasty because it combines European Union safety standards with specialized surgeons who use 3D planning and laser technology. Patients typically save 40% compared to US costs, receiving care in JCI-accredited facilities located in major hubs like Barcelona and Madrid.

  • Precision technology: Surgeons use 3D surgical planning to simulate natural results before the procedure.
  • Expert credentials: Specialists like Javier Herrero Jover have performed over 10,000 successful surgeries.
  • Rapid recovery: Outpatient procedures often include PRP sessions to accelerate healing and reduce swelling.
  • Regulatory safety: Clinics follow strict EU healthcare protocols and hold prestigious JCI and ISO certifications.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many countries offer low prices, Spain’s differentiator is the high volume of surgical experience. At Centro Médico Teknon, specialized surgeons perform thousands of procedures annually. This level of repetition often leads to more natural-looking results and lower complication rates compared to generalists.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize that choosing an oculoplastic specialist is more important than price alone. They frequently report that results look very natural and appreciate the included follow-up care and recovery medications.

What should I ask my surgeon before the procedure?

Inquire about the surgeon's experience with 3D surgical planning and specific eyelid techniques like laser-assisted or premium blepharoplasty. Confirm whether local or twilight anesthesia is used and verify the clinic's Joint Commission International accreditation to ensure high safety standards and optimal aesthetic outcomes.

  • Procedure specifics: Ask if your surgery involves traditional incisions, lasers, or 3D simulation technology.
  • Surgeon expertise: Verify if your doctor has performed over 10,000 procedures like Dr. Javier Herrero.
  • Anesthesia type: Confirm if you will receive local anesthesia or twilight sedation for your 15-minute surgery.
  • Recovery support: Request details on post-op medications, cold masks, and the exact swelling timeline.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Spanish clinics like Centro Médico Teknon often differentiate through advanced simulation. Dr. Javier Herrero Jover utilizes 3D surgical planning to visualize results before the first incision. This level of precision is common in Barcelona's top-tier facilities but less frequent in smaller regional clinics.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize requesting a comprehensive facial analysis and a clear written price breakdown. Real-world feedback highlights that friendly staff and dedicated coordinators significantly ease the decision-making process before surgery.

What is the typical recovery time after eyelid surgery?

Typical recovery from eyelid surgery allows most patients to return to work and social activities within 7 to 14 days. While initial bruising and swelling peak during the first 3 days, visible marks usually subside significantly by the time stitches are removed on day 7.

  • Initial healing: Bruising and swelling peak within 72 hours and typically fade by day 10.
  • Stitch removal: Surgeons usually remove non-dissolvable sutures 7 days after the procedure.
  • Activity restrictions: Patients should avoid heavy lifting and bending for at least 1 week.
  • Vision stabilization: Driving is permitted once vision is no longer blurred, usually 7 days post-op.
  • Final transformation: Results for upper lids settle in 3–6 months; lower lids take 6–12 months.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Spain's top oculoplastic surgeons, like Dr. Javier Herrero Jover at Centro Médico Teknon, now use 3D surgical planning to improve recovery precision. Data shows that opting for all-laser techniques at clinics like Quirónsalud Marbella can further reduce downtime by minimizing tissue trauma during the procedure. Combining surgery with a PRP session, often included in Barcelona packages, can also accelerate the healing of delicate eye tissues after the operation.

Patient Consensus: Expect your eyes to feel dry or tight for the first 2 weeks. Most patients suggest sleeping on your back with two pillows to help the swelling go down much faster.

Will there be visible scars after the surgery?

Blepharoplasty in Spain produces minimal scarring because surgeons place incisions within natural eyelid creases or behind the lash line. While initial redness is normal, these marks typically fade into faint, nearly invisible lines within 6 to 12 months as the delicate skin heals.

  • Incision placement: Surgeons hide upper lid scars in the natural fold of the eyelid skin.
  • Lower lid technique: Incisions often sit just below lashes or inside the lid for zero visibility.
  • Advanced planning: Clinics like Centro Médico Teknon use 3D simulation to ensure precise, discreet placement.
  • Fading timeline: Scars typically transition from pink to flesh-toned between 3 and 6 months.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Spanish clinics often differentiate through surgeon volume and specialized technology. Dr. Javier Herrero Jover at Teknon has performed over 10,000 procedures, providing an experience level that significantly reduces incision trauma. Some premium packages even include PRP sessions specifically to accelerate tissue regeneration and minimize scar redness.

Patient Consensus: Expect incisions to look more obvious during weeks 5 to 8 while swelling resolves. Most patients found that silicone gel effectively flattened pink spots, making the remaining lines easy to hide with makeup.
