Osteoarthritis of the Ankle Treatment in LUX KOR Hospital

34 patients
chose clinic for Orthopedics Treatment

About the clinic

Osteoarthritis of the ankle is treated at LUX KOR Hospital in Bangkok, Thailand, where diagnostics such as a chest X-ray are around $20 and an MRI of one area typically runs $500–$600. The facility is a dedicated orthopedic and osteoarthritis specialist hospital with a 24-hour emergency department. Care is led by Dr. Aekaphon Tangmanasakul, an orthopedic surgeon with over 15 years of experience in foot and ankle procedures.

Diagnostic and imaging services

The hospital uses advanced imaging to assess joint damage and plan the best course of action. Patients can access quick screening and detailed scans within the facility. The diagnostic process typically includes:

  • Chest X-ray. This basic screening costs around $20.
  • MRI of one area. This detailed scan of the ankle joint costs around $500–$600.
  • Physical assessment. A multidisciplinary rehabilitation team evaluates joint mobility and pain levels.

Non-surgical management options

For early-stage osteoarthritis, the focus is on managing pain and maintaining movement without surgery. The medical team provides several conservative options to help patients stay active. These methods include:

  • Injection therapy. Options include steroid injections or hyaluronic acid to lubricate the joint.
  • Medication. The clinic prescribes pain relievers and anti-inflammatory drugs to reduce swelling.
  • Physical therapy. Custom exercise plans help strengthen the muscles around the ankle.
  • Assistive devices. Specialists provide custom braces and footwear to improve stability.

Surgical procedures for ankle osteoarthritis

When conservative treatments no longer provide relief, Dr. Aekaphon Tangmanasakul performs specialized surgeries. Dr. Aekaphon Tangmanasakul completed fellowships in orthopedic trauma and foot and ankle surgery at the Police and Siriraj Hospitals. Surgical options include:

  • Arthroscopic surgery. This minimally invasive technique is used for joint debridement. It often allows for a shorter recovery time and may be done as an outpatient procedure.
  • Joint fusion (arthrodesis). This surgery is reserved for severe joint damage. It fuses the bones together to eliminate pain. This procedure typically requires a stay of 1–2 nights in the hospital.

LUX KOR Hospital: more details about the clinic

Thailand, Bangkok

LUX KOR Hospital is a private medical center in Bangkok, Thailand. It opened in 2025 and treats adults only. The center specializes in orthopedics and rheumatology.

The facility has four departments. A team of 15 doctors works across these specialties. The hospital is licensed by the Ministry of Public Health in Thailand.

Advanced Joint Care and Rheumatology

The hospital focuses on complex joint procedures. Surgeons perform total knee arthroplasty (TKR) regularly. They have specific expertise in treating overweight elderly patients. The orthopedic team also performs bilateral knee replacements, helping patients restore near-normal mobility.

Surgical outcomes are supported by specific technical approaches:

  • High-durability implants for long-term joint function
  • Personalized ligament balancing during surgery
  • Minimally invasive techniques to reduce surgical trauma
  • Pre-operative physical therapy to strengthen the quadriceps

Standard knee replacement surgery takes 1.5 to 2 hours. Patients stay in the hospital for 3 to 5 nights. This allows professional monitoring and early mobilization.

The spinal unit offers advanced endoscopic discectomy. This procedure uses endoscopic technology to visualize the nerve root directly. Surgeons remove disc fragments with high precision through small incisions. The procedure takes 45 to 90 minutes and is often performed as an outpatient service.

Specialized Rehabilitation Programs

The rehabilitation department follows a philosophy of restoring quality of life. Medical teams focus on the root cause of musculoskeletal pain. They treat both acute injuries and chronic conditions with personalized programs for every patient.

Rehabilitation services include the following therapies:

  • Peripheral Magnetic Stimulation (PMS) – electromagnetic wave therapy
  • Ultrasound therapy combined with electrical stimulation to reduce inflammation
  • Therapeutic exercise and physical conditioning
  • Deep friction massage and hot pack therapy
  • TENS and interferential electrical stimulation

Rehabilitation physicians and orthopedic specialists collaborate on every case. This approach aligns therapy with surgical recovery goals.

Diagnostic and Medical Support

LUX KOR Hospital operates an Internal Medicine Department. This unit manages general health and acute conditions. Specialists perform annual check-ups and pre-surgical evaluations to confirm patients are healthy enough for major orthopedic operations.

The diagnostic center uses certified imaging technologies. Available tools include high-resolution MRI and CT scans. Bone density scans assess osteoporosis risks. For spinal procedures, patients must provide an MRI performed within the last six months.

An Accident and Emergency (ER) Department is available 24 hours a day. It handles medical emergencies and trauma, providing advanced life support and continuous wound management.

Services for International Patients

The hospital treats adults from the USA, Canada, and Australia. Staff provide fit-to-fly assessments before patients return home. International patients are advised to remain in Thailand for 14 days after knee replacement.

Financial transparency is a standard part of the service. No advance payments are required. Patients pay the actual amount incurred after receiving their medical care. The clinic also coordinates with insurance companies to assist with coverage information.

I had my knee surgery with Dr. Natthapol Thammachot. It has been 3 months since I had my right knee joint replacement. My condition has improved a lot—I can sit in the cross-legged position and also sit in seiza, and I don’t get any knee pain when walking. Thank you so much, Doctor.

Clean hospital with polite and friendly staff. Price was good the only issue was it took almost 3 hours for the health checkup and test readings. Besides that everything else was perfect

I’d like to give a full 10 stars—everyone is so nice. All counters, all people are great, really. Especially the nurse who draws blood—she’s a nurse who specializes in chemo, and it really shows. You can tell she was born to be a nurse. But the doctor deserves points deducted. She read the test results in less than 5 minutes, and only looked at the “bad fat.” I mean, what about the “good fat”—is it too low or too high? The doctor said there’s no value to read, which left me confused for a moment. But overall, I really love all the staff, honestly.
