The center focuses on digital PET/CT imaging for oncology, cardiology, and neurology. In oncology, specialists use these scans for several critical tasks:
Nuclear medicine specialist Dr. Radu Petrovici leads the medical team. He has worked in nuclear medicine since 1991 and serves as medical director. Radiologist Dr. Kazay Iudit Carmen interprets the CT portion of every scan.
The center supports tumor board-style case discussions with referring doctors. For international patients, reports are available in English.
The center uses the United Imaging uMI 550 digital PET/CT system. This equipment features a 24 cm axial field for full-body coverage. AI-based reconstruction improves image clarity and diagnostic accuracy. The system performs 18F-FDG PET/CT scans for adults.
Key technical features include:
The center does not perform PSMA PET/CT scans. Patients receive all digital imaging data on a CD right after the examination.
A typical diagnostic visit lasts 2–3 hours. This includes tracer administration, a mandatory rest period, and the scan itself. Patients must fast for 4–6 hours before arrival but may drink water. Intense physical effort should be avoided the day before.
For patients with diabetes, blood glucose must stay under 200 mg/dL. Any rapid insulin should be taken at least 2 hours prior. Staff provide specific preparation guidance during scheduling.
The facility has a dedicated waiting room for companions, separate from examination zones. Reports arrive via email within 24–48 working hours. Printed versions are available on request.
The center welcomes patients from beyond Romania, including nearby border regions. Written communication is available in English and Ukrainian. Urgent appointments can often be scheduled within 1–5 days. If an overnight stay is needed, patients can access a partner 3-star guesthouse in Baia Mare.
