Orchiectomy in Safe Urology Clinic
About the clinic
Orchiectomy is a surgical procedure to remove one or both testicles at Safe Urology Clinic in Istanbul, Turkey. This surgery helps treat testicular, prostate, or breast cancer and serves as a key step in gender affirmation for transgender women. Associate Professor Dr. Tuncay Taş leads the medical team, bringing experience from 2,500+ successful urological procedures.
Types of Orchiectomy
Safe Urology Clinic offers four specific surgical methods to match the health goals of each patient. These methods include:
- Simple orchiectomy: The surgeon removes the testicles through a small incision in the scrotum to lower testosterone levels.
- Radical inguinal orchiectomy: This method uses a lower abdominal incision and is the standard choice if doctors suspect testicular cancer.
- Subcapsular orchiectomy: The surgeon removes only the testicular tissue while keeping the scrotum intact so there is no outward sign of surgery.
- Bilateral orchiectomy: Both testicles are removed, which is often necessary for advanced cancer treatment or male-to-female transitions.
Gender Affirmation and Cancer Care
For transgender women, this surgery is a common step to reduce testosterone before further reassignment procedures. During a penile inversion vaginoplasty, the team uses scrotal skin to form the labia and erectile tissue to create the neoclitoris. The urethra is preserved to maintain normal function. For cancer patients, removing the testicles helps slow the growth of tumors and can relieve bone pain caused by the disease.
Specialized Care in Istanbul
Associate Professor Dr. Tuncay Taş leads the sex reassignment and urological oncology teams. He completed a fellowship in Germany at Heidelberg University and specializes in laparoscopic urology. Safe Urology Clinic operates within JCI-accredited partner hospitals, maintaining a 4.9 rating from patients. The clinic also holds a Coloplast Center of Excellence designation.
What to Expect
Before the surgery, patients undergo blood tests to check for cancer markers and confirm they are fit for the procedure. The clinic provides a VIP transfer service between the airport, hotel, and hospital. A dedicated coordinator helps with the process, and the medical team monitors recovery to help patients return to their daily lives. You can leave a request on Bookimed to learn more about the preparation and recovery process.

Dr. Tuncay Taş – Regenerative Andrology in Turkey
Dr. Taş and his team performed the first PRP (P-Shot) and double PRP applications to the penis in Turkey, and published their clinical results on the efficacy of PRP in erectile dysfunction.
The team also achieved several national firsts in the field of regenerative urology and andrology:
- Cord-derived stem cell injection into the penis;
- Clinical SVF (stromal vascular fraction) therapy performed under sterile operating-room conditions and presented at international congresses;
- Bone-marrow-derived stem cell injection;
- ExoShot and StemBio laboratory exosome injections into the rete testis, launching the first clinical study in Turkey on azoospermia and severe oligospermia;
- Introduction of the Spartan Package, performing flaccid penile lengthening via a scar-free endoscopic technique;
- Autologous fat transfer enriched with stem cells to the penis.
Dr. Taş was among the first three physicians in Turkey (since 2012) to perform FDA-approved ED-1000 shock wave therapy, pioneering its scientific and clinical application for erectile dysfunction and vascular regeneration.
Dr. Taş and his team presented the results of combined PRP (Male P-Shot) and SVF applications to the penis for the first time in Turkey at a scientific congress, sharing the clinical outcomes of these regenerative therapies. He leads one of the first five centers worldwide to publish peer-reviewed clinical results of PRP (P-Shot) therapy and serves as a urology instructor at ISSCA, remaining actively involved in clinical regenerative medicine.
