I thought carefully about whether to leave this review, but ultimately I thought it may be useful for others.
I was recommended to Yarema Dental by a friend, who had high praise for this clinic. All I wanted was a routine cleaning, and to ask the dentist whether it was possible to get whitening done to make my natural teeth match my old cosmetic bonding.
To my shock, the dentist immediately started pushing veneers, which I am not interested in. He seemed annoyed when I declined, and asked me to explain why I didn’t want them. He then refuted those reasons while insisting he could make me the “perfect smile,” which I didn’t ask for or want.
The interaction was very uncomfortable, and I felt very confused why it was happening at all — I never had any interest in veneers, and my initial polite decline should have ended that topic, in my opinion. I felt very pushed.
Finally, he said he wouldn’t do just whitening as it was “too temporary.” Whitening is listed on the clinic website, which I checked before booking my appointment. Had I known he wouldn’t even consider it for me, I wouldn’t have wasted his or my time.
By then I was so uncomfortable I decided to leave and not book a cleaning. So I ended up paying 1,500 UAH for a consultation that was mostly about a procedure I didn’t want in the first place, and a dental exam I didn’t need as I’d recently had one at home in Canada.
I was disappointed they did not offer to waive this fee, given that I never wanted a consultation about veneers and the one procedure I was interested in, the dentist himself said he would not do.
The clinic is lovely — very clean, bright and modern, with top-notch equipment and imaging. The staff were very friendly. And I do not doubt the dentist’s skill — I’m sure he could indeed have made me the “perfect smile,” and I know he’s received rave reviews from others.
I don’t know whether there was some sort of miscommunication with staff when booking the appointment, or why the dentist seemed to expect I’d want veneers.
I just know that in my brief time there, I felt really pressured to an expensive cosmetic procedure I was never interested in, and was really not expecting how the visit was going to go. And i have to think something could have been improved to have avoided the awkward situation.
Basically, if you choose this dentist just make sure you’re aware of the consultation fee, and be very clear when booking what you are or are not looking for to make sure the clinic and dentist’s focus aligns with what you expect.
