How Much Does Radioiodine therapy Cost in Israel?

Radioiodine therapy in Israel typically costs from $5,800 to $12,500 depending on the medical indication and dosage. Prices for treating hyperthyroidism are generally lower, while thyroid cancer protocols requiring higher millicurie levels and lead-shielded hospitalization increase the total. In the US, similar procedures cost around $11,500 on average. Patients save around 50% compared to US prices. Standard Israeli medical packages typically include the radioactive isotope, specialist consultations, and post-treatment scintigraphy scans.

  • Medical indication: Cancer treatments often require higher isotope doses compared to hyperthyroidism protocols.
  • Hospitalization: Inpatient stays in specialized isolation rooms significantly impact the total budget.
  • Center type: Private facilities like Assuta Medical Center often have different pricing than public hospitals.
  • Geographic location: Major medical hubs include Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and Haifa.
  • Pre-treatment diagnostics: Costs may increase if specialized PET/CT mapping is required before therapy.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Choosing a multidisciplinary center like Sourasky Medical Center (Ichilov) provides access to top-tier specialists like Professor Naftali Shtern. Since 90% of oncology cases there see successful outcomes, paying for their specialized isolation rooms often represents the best value. Public centers like Rambam or Hadassah, which are JCI-accredited and Newsweek-ranked, offer comparable clinical excellence to private clinics for international patients.

There were only positive aspects in working with Bookimed, I was absolutely happy with everything, I was just glad how everything was clear and understandable, but I did not understand some points in working with the clinic. The impression was that for the clinic the result is not so important as making money. I’m not a doctor, but I understand that you can’t take codle tests. A person ate, if a person comes with stomach problems, this is minimal. In fact, we passed tests for $ 750 but did not understand whether we have problems with sugar or not. In Ukraine, they again tested.

Many thanks to all the staff
I am very touched by the attention of the staff. The very professional gimmick of doctors, they do not exacerbate anything more, but on the contrary facilitate the morale state of the patient. Many thanks to all the staff.

FAQ about Radioiodine therapy in Israel

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Do Israeli doctors offer consultations for international patients seeking radioiodine therapy?

Israeli specialists provide detailed consultations for international patients seeking radioiodine therapy for thyroid conditions. Leading experts from JCI-accredited centers like Sourasky Medical Center offer both remote and in-person meetings. These sessions include comprehensive medical record reviews and personalized treatment planning for thyroid cancer and hyperthyroidism.

  • Specialized expertise: Dr. Orit Gutfeld leads dedicated teams for thyroid-related radiation therapies in Tel Aviv.
  • Academic leadership: Prof. Naftali Shtern directs a major endocrine institute with 120+ peer-reviewed publications.
  • Remote accessibility: Specialists like Dr. Ari Raphael offer online consultations starting from approximately $750.
  • Pediatric focus: US-trained experts such as Dr. Uri Eal provide specialized neuroendocrinology care for children.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Israeli oncology and endocrinology departments show a strong pattern of US-based training. Several top doctors, including Dr. Ilana Itzhakov and Prof. Amit Tirosh, completed fellowships at institutions like the NIH or UCLA. This international background allows them to apply global radioiodine protocols directly to complex patient cases.

Patient Consensus: Patients note that paying for consultations upfront is mandatory since healthcare coverage does not apply to non-residents. They suggest that those with thyroid cancer often receive faster scheduling for initial meetings. Many found that staff in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem speak English fluently during medical discussions.

How do Israeli doctors calculate the precise radioiodine dosage for each patient?

Israeli doctors use personalized dosimetry to calculate radioiodine doses based on individual metabolism and anatomy. Specialists like Dr. Orit Gutfeld at Sourasky Medical Center integrate gland weight, radioiodine uptake percentages, and isotope clearance rates. This data-driven approach ensures precise radiation delivery to thyroid tissue while protecting healthy organs.

  • Thyroid uptake scan: Doctors use a 24-hour test to measure iodine absorption percentages.
  • Gland weight estimation: Specialists calculate thyroid mass using precise ultrasound or CT measurements.
  • Standardized empiric dosing: Fixed doses are used for specific postoperative cases following international guidelines.
  • Bioinformatics integration: Professors like Dr. Amit Tirosh utilize endocrine bioinformatics for complex tumor cases.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Israeli specialists often combine genomic profiling with traditional dosimetry to refine treatment for complex cases. Dr. Ari Raphael at Sourasky Medical Center offers consultations for $750 to evaluate personalized cancer treatments. This high level of expertise helps doctors adjust doses for patients with additional clinical risk factors.

Patient Consensus: Patients note the গুরুত্ব of the strict two-week low-iodine diet to improve uptake accuracy. Many were surprised that doctors may use recombinant TSH injections to avoid the symptoms of hypothyroidism. Experience shows that tailored doses are especially vital for those with unique thyroid gland sizes.

Is there specialized radioiodine expertise for pediatric patients in Israel?

Israel offers specialized radioiodine expertise for pediatric patients through dedicated children's hospitals and specialized centers. Leading experts like Dr. Uri Eal provide tailored treatments for pediatric thyroid disorders using protocols refined at top US institutions like Cincinnati Children's Hospital.

  • Specialized pediatric leadership: Dr. Uri Eal directs pediatric neuroendocrinology with fellowships from top US centers.
  • Advanced academic training: Dr. Asaf Oren completed a pediatric endocrinology fellowship at Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children.
  • Multidisciplinary protocols: Leading hospitals utilize teams of endocrinologists and therapists to manage complex pediatric cases.
  • Customized safety standards: Israeli centers adjust radioactive iodine dosages strictly to minimize long-term risks for children.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data shows that pediatric thyroid care in Israel is highly centralized in Tel Aviv. Specialists like Dr. Uri Eal and Dr. Asaf Oren at Sourasky Medical Center hold dual academic roles in Israel and North America. This ensures children receive treatments that meet both Israeli and international safety benchmarks. Patients can also obtain an online consultation with oncologists like Dr. Ari Raphael for $750 to discuss treatment plans.

Patient Consensus: Parents note that Israeli hospitals are very proactive regarding long-term health, often suggesting fertility banking before starting therapy. Families emphasize the importance of preparing for the mandatory five to seven day isolation period after treatment. Many were surprised by the strictness of radiation safety rules but felt reassured by the world-class nuclear medicine facilities.
