  • If possible, familiarize yourself with the clinic's location and plan your route for the consultation and surgery days.
Day 2: Pre-Surgery Consultation

  • Begin to see improvements in facial contour as swelling decreases. Maintain a stable body weight if you have undergone fat grafting to ensure optimal results.
Day 15: Final Check-Up and Departure Preparation
  • Attend a final check-up at the clinic to ensure proper healing and address any remaining questions or concerns.
  • Discuss any long-term care instructions or follow-up appointments that may be necessary after returning home.

The competence, careful attitude and attention to every little detail is what I really liked
I would like to thank my doctor for his careful attention to my difficult situation. The competence, careful attitude and attention to every little detail is what I really liked. Now I am still recovering and the final result is still far away, but I believe that everything will be fine. I would like to mention my coordinator-translator Jena. She is a very nice girl who helped me during my stay. Kind, nice, responsible and competent. She made me feel very comfortable. Thank you very much to the doctor, Jena and the clinic staff for everything. I will definitely recommend to my friends.

I couldn't have asked for more!
I had surgery done in Korea 2 weeks ago. Bookimed had recommended a few clinics and surgeons initially and I chose VG Plastic Surgery Clinic. Ms. Queen at Bookimed helped with getting answers to many of my questions from the clinic. She followed up with me frequently and continues to do so after my surgery. Bookimed made it easier for me to narrow down on the clinic and surgeon, which I appreciated given the number of surgeons and clincs available in Korea! Ms. Queen at Bookimed assisted with setting up an initial virtual consultation with VG surgery clinic where I met Dr. Choi and Jenny (VG's coordinator and interpreter). After arriving in Korea, I had an in-person consultation with Dr. Choi and Jenny, they listened to my concerns and suggested an alternate surgery method. At the end, my surgical plan was adjusted and finalized. I really appreciated that they listened to my concerns, provided an alternative and adjusted accordingly. I believed my surgery went well since this was my first experience. Jenny at VG was terrific! She acted as my interpreter and organized my recovery services at the clinic. Jenny was accessible during my stay in Korea. I couldn't have asked for more! I flew home after 10 days and slowly recovering now at home. At this point (2 weeks), I am seeing more improvements. I can't wait to see my final results which will be in 3 to 6 months. I am hoping it will be as good as I imagine!
Dr. Choi's expertise and the fact that he listed to my concerns, provided a viable alternative and adjusted accordingly. Also really appreciated that they had interpreter for foreigners who did not speak the language and that they are accessible at all time.
Nurses during surgery were a bit mechanical. I am sure they are in surgeries all day and for them it is routine but for the patient, this could be their first time. A gentler approach would have helped to ease the anxiety.

I would highly recommend this clinic for its quality service and professionalism
I am very pleased with my choice of this clinic. From the very beginning the communication with the clinic staff was fast and of high quality. I chose from 3 clinics. It was in this clinic that I got the best price and quality service before and after the procedure. I had a second rhinoplasty. The doctor did just a jewellery work with my nose. Very carefully, without much interference, he corrected the flaws from the first surgery I had a couple of years ago in Turkey. I am very happy with the result. My nose is now straight and neat. I was also very pleased with the service at the clinic after the operation. I had all the necessary procedures to reduce the swelling immediately after the operation and then during the week I still came a couple of times for procedures, so the recovery took literally a week. Special thanks to the assistant Joan. She was always in touch and very supportive throughout my stay in Korea. I would highly recommend this clinic for its quality service and professionalism.

By far the most attentive care I have EVER gotten in medicine—again, thanks especially to Joanne, who even walked me back to my hotel across the street post-op
One would fear that flying to a foreign country where you don’t know the language would be stressful and scary. Not only did the staff (Joanne <3!) make that all a cakewalk, the clinic’s aftercare was top notch, they really went above and beyond for me. And I am NOT an easy patient—I need to know every chemical in the anesthesia, I negotiate different antibiotics, make them go over my 21 daily supplements, etc—I kept them BUSY and was shown nothing but continual grace and warmth, and was always responded to promptly. By far the most attentive care I have EVER gotten in medicine—again, thanks especially to Joanne, who even walked me back to my hotel across the street post op. As for the surgery outcome, I didn’t even need a Tylenol it was that painless, I was able to walk around and enjoy Seoul every day after my mini lift, and although I’m still swollen at just under two weeks out, I already look ten years younger and am loving what I’m seeing. Dr. Park knows what he is doing, he’s done 3000+ facelifts (yes I asked), he has superb attention to detail, a true artist’s hand, and is a friendly and gentlemanly doctor!

I give Saero Plastic Surgery a 5 because they exceeded my expectations
Dr. Pak is very knowledgeable and professional. It has been over a week sonce my surgery and see.s that everything is healing well. He prescribed a pack of antibiotics and pain killers for me to take for 5 days. The medication worked great because I was at a very minimal pain. His staff walked me through everything I needed from the US to Korea. I felt confident that I was in good hands and I was. The interpreter did a great good Interpreting everything I needed to ask the doctor and addressed all my concerns. I give Saero Plastic Surgery a 5 because they exceeded my expectations. Definitely recommend to everyone.

Now two months after surgery, I am quite happy with the shape of my new eyelids
The medical team members are so friendly and helpful. Although I speak zero Korean, I can sense their passion and empathy, which dramatically reduced my anxiety to go through the surgery. They are very supportive from the right beginning to the end when I left Seoul. And big thanks to the assistance from Yena, who provides detailed before and after care instructions rather than just working as an interpreter. Now two months after surgery, I am quite happy with the shape of my new eyelids. They look much younger and alert.

I’m so touched by their attitude and thoughtfulness, especially after my surgery
All medical staff and the doctor were wonderful throughout my treatment journey. Nurses were very kind, attentive and very thoughtful. I’m so touched by their attitude and thoughtfulness, especially after my surgery. Kept in touch with me even in the weekend to check up on me. Thank you!

the translator Joanne was excellent and very attentive
t was a great experience, the doctor was good, but could have been more attentive. The staff are a little curt when it comes to customer service, but the translator Joanne was excellent and very attentive, there was also a very friendly older nurse. And there were also free therapeutic treatments that I really liked. Now I need to wait for the results to give a real assessment of whether the treatment was really good.

I'm in love! Wonderful doctor and hospital staff. Everything needed for someone undergoing surgery in another country to be reassured and have all questions answered. I received all this. The experience for me, in general, was excellent, I would go back to the Dr
I was very pleased with the attention I received from the first day I arrived at the clinic. The interpreter was able to communicate perfectly to the surgeon what I wanted to be done and what my expectations were. I loved the hospitality of the Medical Team, all very attentive, very concerned about whether I was feeling well or not, reminding me of my check-ups, cleaning, suture removal, giving me all the information for the post-operative period, giving me light and oxygen therapy sessions to improve and accelerate the results of my recovery. The clinic is located in a very central place in Gangnam, it is easy to get there. It is very close to the flat that the clinic provides during your stay until the first check-up. The clinic is spacious, well-lit, very clean, with flexible opening hours for post-operative care. The real estate is very comfortable, they have coffee and tea so that you can help yourself. And, they don't keep you waiting. Everything works as scheduled. And, additionally, they provided me with help on how to get around the city, how to get to the tourist attractions, to the shops where they sell skin care products, etc. The experience for me, in general, was excellent, I would go back to the Dr. and I recommend him 100% to those people who are looking for a good clinic where they can have surgery with the full confidence that everything will go very well.
I loved that the Dr. was very patient in understanding exactly what I wanted, thanks to the interpreter I was able to make the Dr. understand everything perfectly. I also liked very much the attention of the medical team that continued to see me the days after the surgery and the warmth and kindness of each one of them. As well as giving me all the instructions I had to follow, they gave me the creams I had to use so that the swelling and bruising would disappear more quickly.
I have nothing to complain about the Clinic, the Dr., the medical team, the interpreter and the care I received before, during and after my surgery. I just think that I should have stayed longer in South Korea to get to see more beautiful places.
About Bookimed service
Bookimed made it easy for me to have a person who speaks my language to assist me whenever I had questions about the different alternatives of plastic surgery clinics that I could ask to evaluate me and give me a quote. When I had already decided on the clinic I wanted to go to, the person who assisted me very kindly answered all the questions I had after I had made my choice. She sent me all the information I asked for about the clinic, the background of the Dr. who was going to operate on me, health permits, health registration of the Dr., validity of his professional title, etc. Everything I needed to make sure I made a very informed decision and knew everything about the clinic, the Dr, the place where I would be operated on, where the clinic was located, where I would be staying from the day of the surgery until a week later and, obviously, how much I was going to be charged. There was only one difference with respect to the initial budget, but it was because once I was in the clinic I added a part of my face that had not been contemplated before. But even so, the final price did not increase too much compared to what I was charged at other clinics in South Korea.

Most of all, I just wanted to say that I recommend VG because of the wonderful consideration, kindness, and support that I received there
I would like to share my experience with BookiMed and their recommmendation, VG (Very Good) Plastic Surgery. Doctor: Dr. Im Young Min Procedures: Deep plane facelift, mid-face lift with fat graft, sub-brow lift, lower blepharoplasty Referral: I had been wanting to get this surgery for quite a long time, but didn't know which clinic would be best, so I applied to Bookimed who gave me several quotes/recommendations based on my needs. I liked the procedures suggested by VG Plastic Surgery the best and I saw that they had good reviews online, so I set up a consultation. Consultation: At the consultation, several photos were taken in order to analyze the surgery and what would work best for me. The doctor suggested a sub-brow lift for my sagging eyelid skin, a deep plane facelift and a midface lift to address the loss of volume and sagging along with a fat graft to restore the volume to my cheeks, and a lower blepharoplasty to address the hollowness under my eyes along with the malar edema. I worked with Smile, one of the consultants who was very helpful and went over everything with me including all of the options and prices. She was very professional but warm, which is one reason that I decided to go with VG over other clinics. Pre-Surgery Check-up: A few days before my surgery, I went in for a checkup where they did a chest x-ray and a blood test to make sure my body was healthy enough for the surgery. I met with Dr. Im, my surgeon, to go over the plan for the surgery and make sure everything was in place. I met another consultant, Lily, who interpreted everything for me and made sure that everything was clear and comfortable for me. Surgery: The day of surgery, I did an interview about the procedure and how I was feeling prior to the surgery as well as taking several "before" photos to use as comparison. I had also fasted for 8 hours (food and water). The surgery was very smooth, but I believe it lasted a long time- between 6-8 hours as there were many procedures being done. I had to have a breathing tube, which was quite uncomfortable for the first 12 hours after surgery, but I was glad that the doctors took every precaution. They also put in drains in my neck and inside my mouth to keep blood and fluid from pooling under my skin as well as a catheter. Post-Surgery: After surgery, I was taken to a private room for recovery. I stayed in the room for about 24 hours and the nurses took very good care of me, coming in to replace the ice packs for my face, check on my catheter and incisions and just making sure I was comfortable. I was eventually able to have water, then some soy milk, and finally some porridge when I was ready. Lily and Smile checked on me several times to be sure everything was alright and to translate for me. The next day before leaving the hospital, the bandages were removed and Dr. Im came in and checked on me to make sure that everything had gone well. Lily, Smile and another consultant, Jenny, were there to interpret and to make sure I was alright. They removed the catheter and cleaned the incisions, replacing them with clean bandages. I also did an oxygen treatment in a hyperbaric chamber, which was very relaxing. I took a taxi home with Smile's support. Scary Moment: One thing that happened that was a bit scary for me was that I wasn't prepared for how much my eyes would swell up after the surgery. I felt like my bandages were bursting (and the nurse helped me to relieve some of the pressure) and when I looked at myself the day after the surgery, I wasn't prepared for what I saw. The veins in my eyes burst, making them completely red and my eyes swelled up so much I could barely see. This was scary for me as I had not seen this in any of the videos I had watched prior when doing my research. The staff assured me it was normal and that it would go back down, but I guess I'd say that for the first 2-3 days after the surgery, I was pretty worried that something was wrong. The ointment I was applying to keep the incisions clean also coated my eyes from time to time blurring my vision, which was scary, but the consultant assured me this was only because of the medication. I went back to the clinic after 3 days for a check-up and to have my incisions cleaned and the blood drains emptied. Each time I visited the clinic, I was given an oxygen treatment and several photos were taken for documentation. After the swelling in my eyes went down, my recovery progressed quickly. I had more visits (at 7 days, 10 days, 14 days and then 3 weeks) to remove stitches and drains and to monitor my progress. At 7 days, I was given a complimentary hair wash as well, which was very relaxing and such a relief. I also wore a head brace/wrap to keep my face from moving around too much for about a month. I did take it off to sleep at times because it felt tight, but I tried to keep it on during the day for the most part. Conclusion: I am now 5 months post-op, and I am very happy with my results. I feel that my concerns were addressed, and that I look younger and fresher, but still like myself, which was always the goal of this surgery for me. I feel a renewed vigor and like I look like the person I have always been, if that makes sense. I still have some puffiness under my eyes at times, especially when I have built up fluid retention or am very tired, and I am still working to find the cause/solution for this. I believe it is related to lymphatic drainage, so I understand that the surgery could not fully correct this issue, although I do feel like it is better than before. Most of all, I just wanted to say that I recommend VG because of the wonderful consideration, kindness, and support that I received there. From the way that the consultants went out of their way to help and support me, not just through translation, but by encouraging me and helping me, to the care the nurses gave me, to the skill that Dr. Im and his staff in the operating room showed, I am very happy. The scars from my incisions are unnoticeable and will most likely become completely invisible with time, and I feel that my surgery goals were reached. A big thanks to VG Surgery and their staff. I would also like to thank Bookimed for helping me to find this clinic and giving me the information I needed to make my decision.
The customer service and attention from the staff at VG was the best part of my experience. They were all very caring and attentive.
I would have liked to have more post-op consultation with the surgeon and to have been able to ask him more about my questions/concerns.
About Bookimed service
Bookimed was very prompt and responsive, giving me several choices and listening to my concerns and feelings about everything. They recommended several clinics and this gave me a lot of options to consider before making my decision. It's difficult to trust online reviews, so I really appreciated having another level of research before making a choice.

FAQ about Cheekbone reduction in Republic of Korea

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What are the primary risks of cheekbone reduction surgery?

Primary risks of cheekbone reduction include cheek sagging (ptosis), facial asymmetry, and temporary or permanent nerve damage. While generally safe in South Korea, the procedure involves structural bone modification that may lead to nonunion of bone segments, jaw stiffness, or chronic numbness in the cheeks and upper lip.

  • Soft tissue sagging: Reduced bone support can cause overlying skin and fat to droop or appear aged.
  • Nerve injury: Damage to the infraorbital nerve may cause long-term tingling or numbness in facial tissues.
  • Bone healing issues: Complications like nonunion or malunion occur if bone segments fail to fuse correctly.
  • Functional impairment: Temporary jaw stiffness (trismus) often affects chewing muscles and mouth opening during recovery.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Analysis of Seoul clinics like VG Plastic Surgery and Seoul Queen Plastic Surgery shows a trend toward 3D CT screening to map nerve pathways before surgery. Higher-volume centers performing 1,000+ operations annually typically prioritize these advanced imaging systems. This data suggests that clinics utilizing 3D planning significantly reduce the risk of structural misalignment compared to standard X-ray methods.

Patient Consensus: Many patients report lingering numbness lasting over 1 year and emphasize the importance of 3D CT planning. There is a strong recommendation to budget for potential revisions, as some patients require touch-ups for minor facial hollowing.

How long is the recovery period before I can return to daily life?

Most patients return to daily activities in 10 to 14 days following cheekbone reduction. While you can perform light tasks within 1 week, facial swelling and bruising typically require 2 to 3 weeks before you feel comfortable appearing in social or professional settings without significant coverage.

  • Initial recovery: Expect 1 to 3 days of hospital stay and mandatory bed rest.
  • Dietary restrictions: Follow a soft food diet for 1 to 2 weeks to reduce jaw strain.
  • Work return: Desk jobs are manageable after 7 to 10 days if bruising is covered.
  • Physical activity: Avoid strenuous exercise and heavy lifting for at least 4 to 6 weeks.

Bookimed Expert Insight: South Korean clinics like JK Plastic Surgery Center or Wonjin Plastic Surgery Clinic often use 3D CT imaging to map nerves precisely. This advanced planning helps surgeons avoid major nerve branches, which many patients find significantly reduces the duration of post-operative numbness and tingling in the mid-face area.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize that the first week is the most challenging due to peak swelling. Many recommend staying in Seoul for at least 14 days before flying home to ensure the surgical site stabilizes and pressure-related discomfort subsides.

Most patients will not have visible external scars after cheekbone reduction in South Korea. Surgeons primarily use intraoral incisions inside the mouth to access the zygomatic bone. Any external access points are typically under 1 centimeter and hidden within the hairline or natural preauricular ear folds.

  • Incision placement: Surgeons prioritize intraoral techniques to ensure no visible scarring on the face.
  • External access: Tiny incisions under 1 centimeter are hidden in the hairline or ear folds.
  • Advanced imaging: Clinics like VG Plastic Surgery use 3D CT scans to map precise, minimal incisions.
  • Scar maturation: Internal incisions heal within weeks, while external micro-scars typically fade after 1 year.

Bookimed Expert Insight: South Korea’s facial contouring centers, such as JK Plastic Surgery Center with its 20-year history, focus on the 3D zygoma reduction technique. This approach often combines intraoral access with a 5-millimeter side incision. This method allows for more stable bone fixation compared to purely intraoral routes, significantly reducing the risk of bone sagging while keeping scars virtually invisible.

Patient Consensus: Patients report that intraoral incisions leave zero visible marks. They recommend using silicone gels on the tiny hairline sites for 3 to 6 months to speed up natural fading.

Does cheekbone reduction cause sagging skin?

Cheekbone reduction can cause sagging skin, a condition known as soft-tissue ptosis, if the reduction exceeds the skins ability to contract. Risk is highest for patients over 40 or those with poor elasticity, while younger patients typically see the skin adapt to the new bone structure safely.

  • Loss of support: Reduced bone volume provides less surface area to hold midface tissues in place.
  • Age factor: Patients under 35 with high elasticity experience significantly lower risk of visible drooping.
  • Surgical technique: Methods like 3D zygoma reduction minimize muscle detachment to maintain natural tissue tension.
  • Reduction amount: Aggressive bone removal over 6mm increases the likelihood of skin settling in lower positions.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data from top Seoul clinics like JK Plastic Surgery Center and VG Plastic Surgery suggests that surgeons increasingly pair reduction with preventative fat grafting. This holistic approach doesn't just slim the face; it maintains volume in the midface to physically `proprop up` the skin, which effectively offsets the structural loss from the bone shave.

Patient Consensus: Many younger patients report no sagging after three years, whereas those over 40 often mention subtle jowling that peak swelling resolution can sometimes mimic during the first three months.

What is included in a typical cheekbone reduction surgery package?

A typical cheekbone reduction package in the Republic of Korea includes 3D CT imaging, general anesthesia, and the surgical procedure using 3D osteotomy techniques. These bundles also cover 1 to 2 nights of hospitalization, compression garments, and follow-up checkups at Seoul-based clinics accredited by KOIHA or ISO.

  • Diagnostic imaging: Packages frequently bundle 3D CT scans and X-rays for precise facial bone mapping.
  • Surgical fees: Covers the primary 3D osteotomy or bone shaving performed by board-certified surgeons.
  • Anesthesia services: Includes fees for a specialist anesthesiologist and the administration of general anesthesia.
  • Post-operative care: Standard inclusions feature 1 to 2 nights of hospitalization and specialized compression bandages.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While base packages start at $4,000, most high-volume Seoul clinics like VG Plastic Surgery treat foreigners from 40+ countries using tiered pricing. Expect to pay 2,000,000 to 3,000,000 KRW extra for piezo saw technology, which reduces swelling compared to traditional bone-cutting tools.

Patient Consensus: Patients recommend budgeting 20% to 30% above the initial quote for necessary extras like diagnostic imaging or extended medications. Many suggest confirming if English-speaking coordinators and airport transfers are included, as these are often priced separately as part of a foreigner logistics fee.

What is the `Quick Cheekbone Reduction` procedure?

Quick Cheekbone Reduction is a minimally invasive facial contouring procedure in South Korea targeting the zygomatic arch. Performed in under 1 hour, it uses small incisions to rotate bone inward, narrowing facial width with significantly faster recovery times than traditional osteotomy.

  • Surgical approach: Uses single 1cm intraoral or sideburn incisions to avoid visible external scarring.
  • Anesthesia type: Performed under local anesthesia or sedation rather than more invasive general anesthesia.
  • Recovery timeline: Patients typically return to normal activities within 3 to 5 days post-surgery.
  • Fixation method: Often utilizes natural healing or non-fixation techniques instead of permanent metal screws.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many search for the lowest price, our data shows a quality gap in Seoul. Clinics like JK Plastic Surgery Center have performed over 85,000 procedures, while others serve 1,000 patients annually. Choosing a high-volume center is vital because this quick technique relies on the surgeon's ability to precisely rotate bone without using internal fixation plates.

Patient Consensus: Patients report swelling peaks around day 5 and suggest a soft-food diet for 2 weeks. Many emphasize getting a 3D CT scan early to confirm if side-only reduction fits their bone structure.

How long should I stay in Korea after the procedure?

Most patients should stay in the Republic of Korea for 14 to 21 days after cheekbone reduction. This timeframe ensures safe travel post-surgery while allowing for essential medical milestones. Surgeons typically remove internal and external sutures between days 7 and 14 before clearing patients for long-haul flights.

  • Suture removal: Doctors usually remove surgical stitches between day 7 and day 14.
  • Flight safety: Patients must wait 14 days to avoid risks from cabin pressure.
  • Initial recovery: Major swelling and bruising peak during the first 3 to 7 days.
  • Expert check-ups: Clinics like JK Plastic Surgery schedule final evaluations around day 10.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many clinics suggest a 10-day stay, our data shows patients staying 14 days report fewer complications. JK Plastic Surgery Center maintains a 100% success rate partly through rigorous post-op monitoring. Choosing a clinic like VG Plastic Surgery in Seoul provides access to advanced safety systems during this critical two-week window.

Patient Consensus: Many travelers recommend booking flexible flights and local hotels for at least 3 weeks. They emphasize that air pressure can worsen bruising and suggest avoiding public transport while wearing facial bandages for better comfort.
