The clinic is completely low level of service. We arrived at 12 noon and were held until 16.30 in the waiting room. This despite the fact that they knew that a patient arrived with stage 4 cancer, metastases in the spine. it’s very difficult for an old person with such a diagnosis to sit. My dad is 75 years old, my mother is 71. It is hard for a healthy, young one to sit in one place for almost 5 hours. Parents chose a place in 6 local wards. Single VIP is no different from her. The small room is stuffy and cramped. The attendant is provided with a seat. This is a roll-out mattress from under the bed, covered in leather or leatherette. There is no bedspread. We were given a blanket when asked. And Dad hung him on a nearby bed, so that from under it would not blow. He slept for 5 days in clothes on a mattress. On the day when they were supposed to do an MRI of the spine, my sister came to the reception several times asking her to take her mom early. As a result, the MRI was done at 14-30. All this time, Mom did not drink, did not eat in the evening. Terribly exhausted. They did an MRI for a long time, mom says probably 40 minutes and all this time she lay on a cold surface, froze very much and as a result, her mother was tormented by severe pain in the spine. When we sent mom to Korea, we thought that there mom would be well anesthetized, that Korea had the best drugs. When dad said that mom got worse there, that they are tormented by pains, from which she constantly cried, I asked to write the name of the pain medication. My sister immediately sent the name of pain relief to our doctor. It turned out she was given paracetamol (for some reason) and a tramadol tablet, while here Mom got pain medication three times a day with morphine. What is otoplasty?

Otoplasty or ear surgery is a cosmetic surgery to improve the size and shape of the ears and eliminating lop ears. The operation minimizes post-traumatic or congenital ear defects. The method of otoplasty depends on the type of deformity.

What are ear surgery types?

Depending on the goals this intervention has to achieve, specialists distinguish two types of otoplasty:

  • aesthetic — performed to eliminate any cosmetic defects (lop ears, too large auricles or their asymmetry)
  • reconstructive — required in case of the auricle congenital deformities or their complete absence.

What are the indications for otoplasty?

Ear surgery helps correct:

  • lop ears
  • the auricles congenital deformities
  • cup ear deformity
  • torn earlobe repair
  • missing auricle.

Any congenital malformation of the auricles causes the vast majority of visits to plastic surgeons.

What are the contraindications to the surgery?

Contraindications to otoplasty are almost the same as to any other plastic surgery but include some specific ones. Among them are:

  • bleeding disorders
  • infectious diseases
  • exacerbation of any chronic diseases
  • inflammatory diseases of the ear, nose and throat
  • external ear inflammatory diseases
  • diabetes
  • menstruation
  • pregnancy
  • oncological diseases
  • immunodeficiencies.

What is the preparation period before ear surgery?

Before performing ear surgery, the primary examination is required — blood tests (general, for HIV, RW, hepatitis B, and C), bleeding time test, chest X-ray, and ECG (electrocardiogram).

2 weeks before the plastic ear surgery, the doctor advises refusing medication intake that can affect blood coagulation.

Smokers are advised to quit smoking at least 4 weeks before having plastic surgery (or at least significantly reduce the number of cigarettes smoked).

It would be best if you also stopped drinking alcohol at this time (this complicates the postoperative period).

The day before the operation, you need to have a fast day, and on the day of otoplasty — refuse food entirely.

What are the steps of the operation?

The ear surgery is an outpatient procedure and takes from 30 minutes to 2 hours. The intervention process is divided into seven steps:

  1. marking of tissues to be excised
  2. local anesthesia
  3. removal of excess skin in the fold of the auricle
  4. replacement and/or removal of cartilage fragments
  5. fixation of cartilage in a new position
  6. cosmetic skin suturing
  7. compression bandage.
 

In-hospital stay is not required. A patient can come back home right after the surgery.

How long is the recovery period after otoplasty?

Otoplasty is a relatively simple operation, and the patient returns home right after the procedure. During 3-7 days, the patient wears a fixing bandage to avoid auricle injuries, especially during sleep. In some cases, doctors recommend wearing a bandage at night for 3 weeks.

Sometimes the patient feels some pain after otoplasty. In such cases, the doctor may prescribe painkillers. Also, antibiotics are often prescribed as a preventive measure to prevent the occurrence of complications such as infection and inflammatory processes.

If non-absorbable sutures were used during the surgery, they are usually removed after 2 weeks.

There are some restrictions on physical activity. Doctors advise significantly limiting it for at least one month after ear surgery.

Some patients have questions regarding the possible impact of otoplasty on hearing. This operation does not affect hearing.

The final evaluation of the ear surgery result is carried out by the doctor only in 6 months.

What are the possible complications after ear surgery?

Otoplasty is not a difficult surgery, but it still an intervention so that it may lead to some complications:

  • bruises and hematomas (especially in smoking patients; last approximately 1-2 weeks)
  • inflammatory (usually in people with the weakened immune system)
  • hypertrophic scars (commonly are caused by an individual skin tendency to scarring).

"I would like to thank the Bookimed staff who provided the contact between me and the clinic during this process
I found Formé Klinik on Bookimed's site. I had Otoplasty Surgery at Forme Clinic. The clinic is hygienic and beautiful as seen in the image. The clinical staff are very friendly, especially the health personnel who take care of them before, during and after the surgery. If I'm going to make an evaluation about the surgery; they did a blood test and covid-19 test before the surgery. The surgery took about 1 hour if I remember correctly. Bandages were applied to my ears after the surgery and these bandages were removed at the follow-up 1 day later. They gave me a bandage to use for 3-4 weeks and I used it. Since the sutures placed in the ears during the operation are not absorbable, they must be removed 10 days after the operation. Postoperative swelling and bruises decreased from the 2nd week and started to disappear completely from the 3rd week. Although 4 weeks have passed since the surgery, the sensitivity in the ears continues, albeit slightly. After the surgery, there are slight symmetry differences in my ears, but it looks good compared to how it used to be. I would like to thank the Bookimed staff who provided the contact between me and the clinic during this process. They helped me quickly by contacting the clinic in every matter I needed. I was looking for a good clinic for a very long time, and one fine day I still found ... read a bunch of reviews and decided that I would do the operation in it, my now beloved FORME CLINIC. There is a wonderful plastic surgeon Peter Jan Vashemu. I went to him. He well understood my problem as he has been operating for several years. He encouraged, supported and assured that everything would be all right. Before the operation, I was admitted to the department, shod in uniform, removed my hair and taken to the operating room. On the “sacrificial” table, they covered me with a wide sheet, only they left my ear open. Then they administered anesthesia - injections. I felt all the manipulations of the doctor, but there was no pain. I heard the doctor's voice clearly. Sometimes he talked to me to distract me. The operation lasted about an hour. The clinic is clean, cozy and comfortable. The staff is very attentive and responsive. Dr. Lovetinskaya is a professional in his field. She took into account all the wishes, explained everything in detail, did not even have questions. I was very worried about how the communication would go, because I don’t know Czech well, but in vain. Both translators and staff who know Russian work here. Therefore, I definitely recommend the clinic!

They don't do 3D modeling. And this is very bad, because there is no way to see the final result. I had rhinoplasty and liked the results. And otoplasty, I’m not at all happy with the result, it feels like it’s gotten worse, now they’ve become very crooked, especially the terrible view from the back. but I hope when the swelling goes away, the situation will be a little better.

The whole experience was very good . The assistant I was given was Omar he was top class from start to finish he was there at my beckon call . All in the hospital were extremely friendly and nice . The surgery went great and I am very happy with my results although it’s not a complicated surgery it was done to the letter of the law . 10/10 for me
