What would I say to a friend who’s hesitating? Just go for it
What would I say to a friend who’s hesitating? Just go for it. My biggest fear was not understanding the treatment plan or feeling rushed, but that wasn’t the case at all. The dentist was very patient and took the time to explain each step to me in detail. It was reassuring. The overall organisation ran smoothly and the whole clinic team were professional and happy to answer my questions. Coordination via Bookimed simplified the whole process, which helped reduce the stress of having a medical appointment abroad. I left with clear information and a good overall impression.

I would like to thank BIDC and also Bookimed for their professionalism
Hello everyone, like many other people before an operation, I wasn't feeling very well. The staff at the clinic immediately reassured and accompanied me. Believe me or not, I didn't feel a thing. The dental surgeon fitted the 2 implants in 40 minutes, and I had no infections whatsoever. My Bookimed advisor (Péguy) was with me from the start and is still with me today. I would like to thank BIDC and also Bookimed for their professionalism. Sylvain B.

The wisdom teeth extraction was done so fast with utmost care
It is a clean hospital and the wisdom teeth extraction was done so fast with utmost care. The dentist and dental personnel can speak fluent English which is important for most people like I. For wisdom teeth extraction the cost was 20000 baht for 4 teeth( including medication and nurse charge), but it all depends if the teeth has impacted. I would highly recommend the clinic.

FAQ about Temporary anchorage devices (TADs) in Thailand

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What are the common health risks and potential complications of having temporary anchorage devices (TADs) placed in Thailand?

TAD placement in Thailand involves low risks when performed by experienced specialists. Common complications include minor gum inflammation, device loosening, or temporary tenderness. Major issues like root damage are rare. Providers like Kitcha Dental Clinic use premium materials like Straumann to maintain high safety standards.

  • Tissue inflammation: Plaque buildup around screws causes minor swelling or redness.
  • Mechanical failure: Devices may loosen over time. This requires simple removal or replacement.
  • Initial discomfort: Patients often report pressure or soreness for 3–7 days post-procedure.
  • Anatomical contact: Small risk of touching tooth roots. This is avoided using imaging.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Thai clinics like Kitcha Dental Clinic serve over 10,000 patients annually. They often use original Straumann materials. These premium components help reduce the risk of metal fatigue or biocompatibility issues. Australian patients should confirm the specific brand used to ensure compatibility for local follow-up care.

Patient Consensus: Most patients describe feeling pressure rather than sharp pain during the first few days. Careful cleaning is essential since food often gets trapped around the screw head. Thailand provides excellent care. Patients should request written cleaning instructions before flying back to Australia.

Will the placement of temporary anchorage devices (TADs) in Thailand cause pain or require sedation?

Temporary anchorage device (TAD) placement in Thailand is virtually painless. Orthodontists use local anaesthesia to numb the area. The procedure is a minor, non-surgical intervention. Sedation is rarely needed. Patients usually feel moderate pressure rather than sharp pain during the quick insertion.

  • Anaesthesia method: Specialists use local anaesthetic to numb gums and bone tissue.
  • Sedation necessity: Intravenous sedation is uncommon. It is typically reserved for extreme dental anxiety.
  • Insertion sensation: Most patients compare the feeling to getting a standard dental filling.
  • Post-op comfort: Mild soreness is common for 24–48 hours after the procedure.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While TADs are simple, choosing a high-volume centre like Kitcha Dental Clinic ensures accuracy. They serve 10,000+ patients annually in Chiang Mai. Their affiliation with the American Dental Association (ADA) confirms they follow global safety standards. This experience helps minimise tissue irritation during the 10-minute insertion.

Patient Consensus: Minimal discomfort and quick placement make this procedure easy to handle in Thailand. Most patients feel only pressure. Recovery is fast with simple over-the-counter pain relief for short-lived soreness. Patients should talk through the steps with their orthodontist if they feel nervous.

What is the clinical purpose of using temporary anchorage devices (TADs) during orthodontic treatment in Thailand?

Clinical purposes for using temporary anchorage devices in Thailand include providing absolute anchorage for precise tooth movements. These titanium mini-screws create a fixed point in the jaw. This allows orthodontists to move specific teeth without shifting others. It also often removes the need for invasive orthognathic surgery.

  • Anchor tooth movement: Prevents unwanted shifting of neighbouring teeth during targeted adjustments.
  • Intrusion techniques: Enables vertical tooth movement to correct deep bites efficiently.
  • Retraction and closure: Facilitates pulling back upper teeth to improve facial profiles.
  • Complex space closure: Closes gaps in dental arches without needing external headgear.
  • Treatment efficiency: Reduces overall time in braces by providing better tooth control.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Thai clinics like Kitcha Dental Clinic often serve international patients from Australia and the USA. Many use materials from global leaders like Straumann. This integration helps the mini-screws remain stable throughout the active movement phase.

Patient Consensus: Patients find these devices help them avoid extractions or jaw surgery in complex cases. They appreciate that the minor discomfort is brief and does not interfere with speech.

What is the expected duration for keeping temporary anchorage devices (TADs) in place when receiving treatment in Thailand?

Temporary anchorage devices in Thailand typically remain in place for 6 to 12 months. Specialists use these mini-screws to support complex tooth movement during orthodontic treatment. While placement takes about 20 minutes, they stay until teeth reach their planned positions.

  • Placement procedure: Specialists install mini-screws under local anaesthesia in roughly 20 minutes.
  • Recovery timeline: Immediate function is standard. Most patients recover within 1 day.
  • Device removal: Removal is straightforward once teeth have moved into the correct alignment.
  • Clinic volume: Kitcha Dental Clinic in Chiang Mai serves up to 10,000 patients annually.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While a TAD costs between $100 and $200 in Thailand, savings reach _price_percent_discount_% compared to Australian averages. Clinics like Kitcha Dental Clinic use Straumann materials. This brand is widely used in Australia. Choosing these materials makes local follow-up care much easier.

Patient Consensus: TADs in Thailand stay in place for the active tooth movement phase. Experience shows they can be removed early if movement is fast or irritation occurs. Most patients expect follow-up visits to check how teeth respond.
