I really like the doctor's approach, very friendly and made me feel comfortable
I really like the doctor's approach, very friendly and made me feel comfortable. He was willing to hear my questions and explained the whole procedure and post operation requirements. The doctor's personal assistance was also in the call and immediately after she contacted me to ask if there all was ok and if there is anything else I needed to ask.
I liked the fact that after the online consultation I felt more relaxed about the operation to follow in the coming months.
About Bookimed service
I was pleasantly surprised by the people of Bookimed because I had no idea about them and only approached them to check if I could get some information about doctors in Hamburg. They responded immediately, they are always answering to my messages and are regularly communicating with me to check on my progress.

Thank you so much Bookimed for arranging everything
Prof. Kivit was very professional, explained thoroughly and knowledgeable. We got our appointment schedule very quick. Unfortunately during our consultation time, the data that we provided was incorrect so Prof. Kivit couldn't give his opinions accordingly. We were having a very good second opinion consultation with him. Thank you so much Bookimed for arranging everything.

Our Brain tumor surgery Techniques: What Suits You Best?

When considering Brain tumor surgery, it’s important to understand the different techniques and which is best suited for you. Here’s a concise comparison of popular options:

Brain Tumor Removal

Involves the surgical excision of abnormal growths within the brain to alleviate symptoms and prevent further complications.

Pros: Offers direct access to the tumor, allowing for precise removal and immediate symptom relief. Minimally invasive techniques reduce recovery time by up to 50% compared to traditional methods.
Cons: Risks include potential damage to surrounding brain tissue, with a 10% chance of neurological deficits. Requires hospitalization and postoperative care, which can be extensive.
Effectiveness: Success rates vary from 70% to 90% depending on tumor type and location.
Duration: 3-6 hours
Recovery: 4-8 weeks
Best for: Patients with accessible tumors causing neurological symptoms. Effective for gliomas, meningiomas, and metastatic brain lesions.
Prices: Cost of Brain tumor removal in Germany from $37025

Resection of glioblastoma

This procedure involves surgically removing a glioblastoma, a type of aggressive brain tumor, to alleviate symptoms and improve survival chances.

Pros: Glioblastoma resection can significantly reduce tumor size, improving life expectancy and quality of life. Approximately 90% of patients experience symptom relief post-surgery.
Cons: The risk of neurological deficits post-surgery is around 30%, and complete tumor removal is often challenging due to its invasive nature.
Effectiveness: Achieves up to 80% tumor reduction in many cases, with varying success based on tumor location and size.
Duration: 4-6 hours.
Recovery: 4-6 weeks.
Best for: Patients with localized glioblastomas, especially when combined with radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

Excision of Skull Base Tumor

Excision of skull base tumor involves the surgical removal of tumors located at the base of the skull, often requiring advanced techniques due to the complexity of the area.

Pros: Offers precise removal with minimal damage to surrounding tissues. Success rates are high, with 85% of cases achieving complete tumor resection.
Cons: The procedure can be more invasive than other brain surgeries, with a higher risk of complications like nerve damage, occurring in 15% of cases.
Effectiveness: Achieves complete tumor removal in approximately 85% of cases.
Duration: 6-12 hours.
Recovery: 1-3 months.
Best for: Tumors at the skull base, including meningiomas and acoustic neuromas, affecting 2-3% of the population.

Pituitary tumor surgery

This procedure involves the removal of a tumor from the pituitary gland, often performed using minimally invasive techniques.

Pros: Offers a high success rate with over 90% symptom improvement. Minimally invasive techniques reduce recovery time significantly.
Cons: May not be suitable for all tumor types, and less effective for large or invasive tumors compared to other surgical options.
Effectiveness: 85% to 95% success rate in tumor removal and symptom relief.
Duration: 2 to 4 hours
Recovery: 4 to 6 weeks
Best for: Small to medium-sized pituitary tumors causing hormonal imbalances or vision problems.
Prices: Cost of Pituitary tumor surgery in Germany from $21035

Surgical removal of the brain cyst

Involves a neurosurgical procedure to excise a cystic lesion from the brain, aimed at relieving pressure and symptoms.

Pros: Minimally invasive with a lower risk of complications compared to excision of skull base tumors. Offers a 90% chance of symptom relief and improved quality of life.
Cons: Requires general anesthesia, which carries some risk. May not be suitable for all cyst locations due to accessibility issues.
Effectiveness: 85% success rate in achieving complete cyst removal without recurrence.
Duration: 2-4 hours
Recovery: 1-2 weeks
Best for: Cystic lesions causing neurological symptoms or brain compression in accessible areas.
