He studied medicine at the University of Vienna, where he graduated in the 1980s, and completed his residency in general and visceral surgery at the Medical University of Vienna. Early in his career, he focused on endocrine and metabolic disorders, developing refined surgical approaches for complex thyroid and adrenal diseases.
