Who may benefit

The program can be considered for selected patients with symptomatic knee or hip osteoarthritis who continue to experience pain and functional limitation despite conservative treatment.

For knee osteoarthritis, ITRT notes that patients with grade II–III disease generally have a more favorable profile for assessment. Advanced grade IV osteoarthritis, major deformity or severe mechanical joint damage requires particularly careful selection and may still be better treated with joint replacement.
