I'm a Retired US Veteran With Dental Insurance at Home, And I Still Fly to Bogotá
It hurts me to write this (because I’m a gatekeeper type😂) but my people at Dentica deserve the praise. I've been a patient of Dr. Cristina Suaza in Bogotá since 2019 seven years now. Read that first part again, because it matters: as a retired veteran, I have dental coverage in the United States. I don't go to Colombia because I have no other option. I go because the care is excellent, and I trust this clinic more than any office I've used stateside.
Over seven years I've had implants, multiple crowns, composite resins and whitenings done here. Not one complication. The work has held up to years of daily chewing, coffee, and everything else you throw at teeth. Nobody would ever guess what's original and what isn't.
For the Americans reading this who are nervous…here's what you're actually worried about, answered:
The language barrier: Every single time I've been there, they had a Spanish-English translator available for me. Never once had to muddle through with hand gestures or a phone app. They’re so sweet they encourage my use of broken Spanish 🤣.
Being alone in a foreign country with dental problems: This clinic has gone above and beyond dentistry. They've helped me with hotel and transportation arrangements during my stay. They do aroma therapy, facial massage, laser therapy. The post treatment care is amazing. You're family, not a transaction.
Quality: Here's the real kicker years ago, my regular dentist in Austin (yes y’all Austin Texas) was trying to talk me into a partial denture said it was simpler, cheaper, less invasive. I went to Bogotá instead and got full implants. When I walked back into the Austin office a few months later for a routine check-up, my dentist stopped mid-examination. Asked me point blank where I got the implants done. He hadn't seen the parts before (Nobel hardware if I remember correctly), said they were higher grade components than what most US offices use routinely. That's when I knew I'd made the right call. This isn't bargain basement dentistry at a discount, it's excellent dentistry at a fair price.
If you're sitting on a five figure US treatment plan and quietly resigned to just living with bad teeth, you have another option. I did my homework, and this clinic has earned my trust over seven years of consistent results.
PS: Through my research. I've talked to hundreds of clinics in Turkey, Mexico, the Philippines, and Thailand, and I've traveled through 15 countries in my life. I have never been treated better anywhere than I have been in Colombia. In a lot of those other places you'll deal with foreigner price gouging, and yes, racism — I'm just telling you the TRUTH. None of that happens here in Colombia, not in my experience.
Thank you to everyone on the staff. Ms Camila for the scheduling. Dr Laura for her conservative approach. Dr Christina for always making me feel at home. The one lady who carves the molds, always forget her name but she’s been around since 2019. And Dr Rebeca the coolest most down to earth person you will ever know. Trust me make the call and ask for Dr Rebeca. Just do it.
