Verified review.
The person who was given the appointment was given the wrong one and I traveled 5 hours because of this mistake and paid 157 euros and I was not examined medically because the appointment was given the wrong one and they told me that I should have 5 more days to request a refund I actually made the request and I haven't received the money back yet. It was a very bad experience and I hope it doesn't happen again.
Unfortunately, I did not like anything. They were negligent in everything. They did not have time to inquire. They talked to you with an upset face
My appointment was not scheduled correctly because of the person I made the appointment with.

FAQ about Botox under eyes in Italy

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Who can legally perform Botox injections in Italy?

Legally, only licensed medical doctors and registered dentists can perform Botox injections in Italy. The Italian Medicines Agency (AIFA) restricts administration to specialists like dermatologists, ophthalmologists, and plastic surgeons. It is illegal for nurses or aestheticians to perform these injections, even under doctor supervision.

  • Authorized providers: Only licensed physicians and specifically registered dentists may perform injections.
  • Medical specialists: Dermatologists and ophthalmologists are commonly authorized for under-eye Botox treatments.
  • Illegal practice: Nurses and beauticians face fines up to €50,000 for performing injections.
  • Facility requirements: Procedures must occur in authorized medical offices, never in beauty salons.
  • Verification tool: Patients should verify credentials via the FNOMCeO registry before booking.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While general practitioners can legally inject Botox, high-volume Italian facilities like Santa Caterina da Siena maintain specialized units. Data shows clinics within the GVM Care & Research network prioritize specialist-led care over generalists. This focus on specialized neuro-dermatology expertise helps minimize risks like eyelid ptosis in delicate under-eye procedures.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize the importance of ensuring a doctor personally performs the injection rather than delegating it. Many warn against tourist-area beauty centers that offer medical treatments illegally, leading to complications like severe bruising.

What are the common side effects when treating the eye area with Botox?

Common side effects of under-eye Botox include temporary bruising, swelling, and localized redness at the injection site. Patients may also experience dry eyes or excessive tearing due to changes in blinking patterns. These effects are generally mild and resolve within 7 to 10 days.

  • Injection site reactions: Transient bruising and swelling typically peak 2 to 3 days after the procedure.
  • Ocular changes: Reduced blinking can lead to temporary dry eyes or compensatory watering and irritation.
  • Eyelid movement: Improper toxin migration may cause temporary eyelid drooping or feelings of eyelid heaviness.
  • Vision alterations: Rare complications include double or blurred vision if the toxin affects delicate muscles.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While Italy offers competitive rates, under-eye Botox requires higher precision than forehead treatments due to increased vascularity. Clinics like Santa Caterina da Siena in Turin operate within specialized surgical networks, ensuring hospital-grade safety standards. Choosing a facility with advanced technology per operating room minimizes the risk of fluid retention and facial asymmetry.

Patient Consensus: Some patients report a heavy eyelid sensation or significant swelling that resembles a bruise for several days. Most recommend starting with a low dose and avoiding physical activity for 24 hours to prevent migration.

How long do Botox results last and when do they peak?

Botox results typically last 3 to 4 months and reach peak effectiveness between 10 and 14 days after injection. Initial muscle relaxation begins within 3 days. Under-eye results often fade faster, usually around the 2 to 3 month mark due to high muscle activity.

  • Peak smoothing: Full cosmetic effects are visible 10 to 14 days post-treatment.
  • Results duration: Effects usually wear off between 3 to 4 months for most patients.
  • Metabolic factors: Active patients or those with high metabolisms may see results fade faster.
  • Area sensitivity: Under-eye skin is thin, often leading to quicker neurotoxin metabolization.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While Italy offers high-end care at places like Santa Caterina da Siena, under-eye Botox requires precision. Italian clinicians often prefer conservative dosing for the delicate periorbital area. This safety-first approach maintains natural expressions but may require touch-ups every 8 to 12 weeks. Tracking your first cycle helps personalize your maintenance schedule effectively.

Patient Consensus: Many patients find the best aesthetic appearance occurs around 3 to 4 weeks. They emphasize using SPF and avoiding facial rubbing to help prevent the toxin from breaking down too early.

What post-treatment care is advised in Italy after Botox for the under-eye area?

Post-treatment care for under-eye Botox in Italy focuses on stabilizing the neurotoxin within the orbicularis oculi muscle. Patients must remain upright for 4 hours and avoid rubbing the area for 24 hours. These steps prevent migration and common complications like eyelid ptosis.

  • The upright rule: Stay upright or vertical for 4 hours to ensure precise toxin settling.
  • Mechanical restriction: Avoid touching, massaging, or applying eye makeup for 24 to 48 hours.
  • Thermal avoidance: Skip saunas, hot tubs, and direct sun exposure for at least 24 hours.
  • Activity limits: Postpone strenuous exercise and alcohol consumption for 24 to 48 hours post-injection.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Italian practitioners often emphasize a strict 14-day observation period before considering any adjustments. While initial results appear sooner, the full effect on delicate under-eye skin requires two weeks. Clinics like Santa Caterina da Siena prioritize these scheduled follow-ups to ensure symmetry and patient safety.

Patient Consensus: Many patients recommend applying arnica gel 2 days before treatment to minimize bruising. They also suggest sleeping on your back with your head elevated on the first night.
