Verified review.
The person who was given the appointment was given the wrong one and I traveled 5 hours because of this mistake and paid 157 euros and I was not examined medically because the appointment was given the wrong one and they told me that I should have 5 more days to request a refund I actually made the request and I haven't received the money back yet. It was a very bad experience and I hope it doesn't happen again.
Unfortunately, I did not like anything. They were negligent in everything. They did not have time to inquire. They talked to you with an upset face
My appointment was not scheduled correctly because of the person I made the appointment with.

FAQ about Hair mesotherapy in Italy

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Is hair mesotherapy in Italy safe?

Hair mesotherapy in Italy is highly safe when performed by licensed physicians following Italian Society of Mesotherapy (SIM) standards. The country enforces strict medical protocols and ISO 22716 certifications for sterile injection cocktails. Top research hospitals like San Raffaele in Milan ensure pharmaceutical-grade safety and expert oversight.

  • Professional regulation: Only licensed physicians or specialists may legally perform medical mesotherapy injections in Italy.
  • Product standards: Most serums are made in Italy under strict ISO sterility and safety certifications.
  • Clinical oversight: Sites like San Raffaele undergo IRCCS accreditation for high-level research and medical assistance.
  • Safety guidelines: The Italian Society of Mesotherapy maintains evidence-based standards to minimize procedural infection risks.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Safety in Italy is often linked to the clinical setting rather than price. While many local spas offer these injections, patients should verify that the provider is a board-certified dermatologist. Large research centers like San Raffaele handle over 300,000 patients annually. They provide a level of medical emergency backup that smaller aesthetic boutiques cannot match.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize vetting providers through the Italian medical board to avoid non-medical salons. Many suggest requesting a patch test and confirming all ingredients are disclosed before starting the session.

Who is a good candidate for scalp mesotherapy?

Ideal candidates for scalp mesotherapy include men and women experiencing early-stage hair thinning or telogen effluvium with active follicles. This non-surgical treatment effectively targets androgenetic alopecia and postpartum shedding. It remains most successful for those seeking improved density without undergoing invasive hair transplants.

  • Early thinning: Best for patients noticing increased shedding but retaining visible follicle activity.
  • Post-transplant care: Ideal for nourishing new grafts and protecting surrounding native hair strands.
  • Hormonal shedding: Successfully treats postpartum thinning and stress-induced hair loss in women.
  • Clinical readiness: Perfect for those resistant to topical minoxidil seeking deeper nutrient delivery.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Italian research hospitals like San Raffaele in Milan integrate advanced research into clinical practice. Data suggests mesotherapy performs best when patients confirm follicle viability via trichoscopy first. You should commit to 8–12 weekly sessions for measurable improvements in hair density.

Patient Consensus: Many find this treatment a relief when topical serums fail to produce results. Younger patients often report better stabilization of thinning hair when starting treatments in their 20s or 30s.

How effective is the treatment and when will I see results?

Hair mesotherapy in Italy is effective for early-stage thinning, showing visible results after 3 to 4 months of consistent treatment. Patients typically undergo 4 to 8 sessions to stimulate follicles. Success relies on delivering vitamins and minerals directly to the scalp to improve hair density and health.

  • Early results: Notice baby hairs and increased density around the 12-week mark.
  • Treatment protocol: Expect 4 to 8 weekly sessions initially to build nutrient levels.
  • Peak effectiveness: Hair thickness and coverage usually reach their maximum at 6 months.
  • Maintenance needs: Periodic booster sessions are required to prevent results from fading over time.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While single sessions cost between $700 and $1,300, many Italian clinics offer better value through multi-session packages. Data shows that patients who commit to a full 8-session course have higher satisfaction than those buying individual treatments. Centers like San Raffaele in Milan provide high-level medical oversight, which is vital for tracking follicle response over the standard 4-month window.

Patient Consensus: Many notice initial shedding during the first two months before new growth starts. It is common to feel discouraged early on, but tracking with photos helps confirm that density improves by the fourth month.

What does the session protocol look like and does it hurt?

Hair mesotherapy sessions in Italy involve 100 to 300 micro-injections using a specialized mesogun or manual needles. The protocol typically lasts 30 to 60 minutes. It is generally well-tolerated with topical lidocaine cream applied 20 to 30 minutes before the procedure starts.

  • Session duration: Procedures take 30 to 60 minutes including cleaning and numbing.
  • Pain management: Topical lidocaine cream significantly reduces discomfort during the 20-minute application.
  • Injection method: Surgeons use sterile disposable needles for 100 to 300 precise scalp penetrations.
  • Typical course: Most Milan clinics prescribe 8 to 12 weekly sessions for optimal results.
  • Recovery time: Expect mild redness or swelling for only 1 to 2 days after treatment.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Quality clinics in Milan, like San Raffaele, prioritize patient comfort with 30-minute numbing time. Some lower-cost providers skip this step to increase patient turnover. Always verify your provider uses sterile, disposable needles to ensure safety and minimize post-injection irritation.

Patient Consensus: Most patients rate the pain a 3 out of 10 with numbing. They describe the sensation as tiny bee stings that are much less painful than expected.

How many sessions and what aftercare is required?

Hair mesotherapy in Italy typically requires 6–10 sessions to achieve visible improvements in hair density. Most clinics schedule initial sessions 1–2 weeks apart. Patients must avoid washing hair for 48 hours and skip strenuous exercise to ensure nutrient absorption and minimize scalp irritation.

  • Session frequency: Most treatment plans involve 8 initial sessions spaced 1–4 weeks apart.
  • Washing protocol: Avoid shampooing for 24–48 hours to allow the serum to penetrate fully.
  • Physical activity: Skip gym sessions and saunas for 72 hours to prevent excessive sweating.
  • Sun protection: Protect the scalp from direct UV exposure for 3 days post-treatment.
  • Initial shedding: Some patients experience a hair purge after 2 sessions before growth begins.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While mesotherapy costs $700 to $1,300 in Italy, the real value lies in the clinical environment. High-volume research centers like San Raffaele in Milan manage 300,000 patients annually. They often use high-purity vitamins or combine treatments with PRP Hair Loss Treatment ($900–$1,700) to accelerate hair follicle reactivation.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize that initial shedding is a normal part of the process. Most recommend staying consistent with the schedule and switching to a gentle, sulfate-free shampoo after the first 48 hours.

What should I look for when choosing an Italian clinic?

Prioritize Italian clinics with JCI or ISO certifications and verify surgeon registration with the Provincial Medical Council (OMCeO). Select private facilities in Northern regions like Milan or Florence for faster access. Ensure surgeons have over 5 years of experience in hair mesotherapy protocols.

  • Medical registration: Verify the specialist holds a current FNOMCeO registration for Italian practice.
  • Regional equipment: Northern and Central clinics typically offer more advanced diagnostic and therapeutic technology.
  • Accreditation status: Select IRCCS-accredited hospitals that combine clinical care with active hair loss research.
  • Language support: Major city clinics provide international desks to assist with logistics and translations.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Milan centers like San Raffaele serve 300,000 patients annually, signaling high trust and volume. Look for clinics performing thousands of annual operations. Large research hospitals often provide more consistent hygiene and serum sterility than smaller provincial offices.

Patient Consensus: Experienced patients recommend visiting clinics in person to assess hygiene before committing. They advise avoiding unusually cheap sessions and suggest checking local Italian review sites for authentic feedback.
