How Much Does Removal of testicle tumor Cost in Italy?

Removal of testicle tumor in Italy costs from $9,000 to $15,000 on average. Final pricing depends on the surgical approach, clinic tier, and the city. In the US, similar procedures cost around $20,000 on average. Patients save approximately 40% by choosing Italian medical centers. These costs typically cover the surgical intervention, hospital stay, and necessary diagnostics.

  • Orchiectomy: $4,200 to $8,000 for the standard surgical removal procedure.
  • Testicular prosthesis: $2,200 to $4,000 for cosmetic restoration after tumor removal.
  • Robotic-assisted surgery: This minimally invasive technique typically adds 30-50% to standard surgical costs.
  • Major medical hubs: Treatment in Milan or Rome often carries a 15-20% premium over regional clinics.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Choosing JCI-accredited centers in Italy ensures top-tier safety at lower regional prices. Maria Cecilia Hospital in Bologna offers high-value oncology care outside the expensive Milan hub. For example, comprehensive surgical and diagnostic packages there run for approximately $17,650. Experts like Dr. Caterina Lania at San Raffaele bring specialized expertise in urological oncology. This balance provides elite care without the highest private price tags.

"I declare with all responsibility that the San Rafael clinic in Milan is the best
The professionalism of the doctors, the newest equipment, the care of the clinic staff are among the best in Europe. The treatment and operations in Russia and Germany have been carried out, I declare with all responsibility that the San Rafael clinic in Milan is the best. After treating my father’s stomach cancer, I visited the neurologist and gastroenterologist and myself. Thank you so much to the coordinator, the doctors from the international department of the clinic. More in the world of such doctors. THANK YOU!

We received a remote consultation at the San Rafael Clinic, for us this format was not suitable, because the second opinion is for those who either confirm the diagnosis or ask for another alternative treatment, we were told that after the consultation, continue the same, although we were treated and there was no result, as a result, after a remote consultation, we were not assigned anything, plus all communication was extended for a couple of months, because the clinic’s response rate was very low. We could not get any concrete answer, so this consultation was useless for us.

"Just returned from there
Just returned from there. Everything was top notch, and doctors, and the organization of the stay. It took 2 days from the first call to the bookmarked to my arrival in Milan. The next morning, consult a doctor. All questions were solved almost instantly, the results of all analyzes and studies were ready the next day. And constantly in touch with the coordinator Catherine and care worker Alexander. In my trips to the clinic, I was accompanied by a super translator Yulya Sukhneva. Thanks to the clear and professional work of Julia, Kati and Alexander, my stay was very short, I saved money on the hotel. The hotel, by the way, was excellent, up to the clinic, 200 meters. Yes, and more, the prices for consultations and analyzes are quite comparable with those in Moscow. I spent much less money than I thought at first. Thank you all!

FAQ about Removal of testicle tumor in Italy

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What is the standard surgical procedure for removing a testicle tumor?

Radical inguinal orchiectomy is the primary surgical standard for treating testicular tumors. Surgeons remove the entire testicle and spermatic cord through a 5–10 centimeter groin incision. This specific approach prevents cancer cell seeding and protects terminal lymphatic drainage routes for optimal oncologic safety.

  • Inguinal approach: Surgeons avoid scrotal incisions to prevent spreading cancer cells to local skin.
  • Vessel ligation: The spermatic cord is tied off early to block abdominal cancer migration.
  • Staging protocol: Post-operative care includes CT scans and tumor-marker blood tests for accurate staging.
  • Cosmetic options: Patients may receive a saline-filled testicular prosthesis during the same surgical session.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Italian uro-oncology centers prioritize fertility preservation by recommending sperm banking before any surgical intervention. Centers like Ospedale San Carlo di Nancy in Rome often coordinate these steps alongside radical surgery. This dual focus ensures that clinical cancer removal does not compromise future reproductive options for younger patients.

Patient Consensus: Patients often emphasize the importance of choosing simultaneous prosthetic implantation to reduce the emotional impact of the procedure. Many also highlight that specialized centers in major cities provide more consistent post-operative monitoring through standardized tumor-marker protocols.

Will the surgery affect my testosterone or fertility?

Removing one testicle for a tumor usually preserves normal testosterone and fertility levels. The remaining healthy testicle typically produces sufficient hormones and sperm. High-precision surgery in Italy, often performed by JCI-accredited specialists, prioritizes nerve preservation to maintain sexual function and long-term reproductive health.

  • Hormonal compensation: The remaining healthy testicle increases production to maintain baseline testosterone.
  • Fertility preservation: Banking sperm is often recommended before surgery to ensure future options.
  • Nerve protection: Modern Italian oncology centers use techniques to avoid retrograde ejaculation risks.
  • Biopsy standards: Specialists like Dr. Caterina Lania focus on preserving vital genitourinary functions.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Italian urology centers like Maria Cecilia Hospital often blend oncological removal with reconstructive options. High patient volumes in clinics like Ospedale San Carlo di Nancy suggest these teams excel at nerve-sparing techniques. Choosing specialized andrology consultants helps ensure your hormonal health is monitored closely post-surgery.

Patient Consensus: Most patients report that their energy and libido remained stable after recovering from a single-sided orchiectomy. Many recommend discussing cryogenic storage early to provide peace of mind during the cancer treatment process.

How long is the recovery period after radical orchiectomy?

Recovery after radical orchiectomy typically takes 2 to 4 weeks for daily activities. Most patients return home the same day. Full healing and energy restoration usually occur within 2 months while following specific lifting and activity restrictions to ensure proper wound closure.

  • Initial recovery: Patients often require significant rest during the first 1 to 3 days.
  • Work return: Desk-based work is usually manageable within 7 to 10 days post-surgery.
  • Physical limits: Avoid lifting over 10 lbs for at least 4 to 6 weeks.
  • Exercise resumption: Strenuous activities like cycling or running require a 6-week healing period.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Italian centers like Maria Cecilia Hospital often provide multidisciplinary teams that manage oncology and urology. Selecting a facility with Joint Commission International accreditation ensures standardized post-operative safety protocols. These high-volume centers help minimize complication risks during the critical first 48 hours of healing.

Can I have a testicular prosthesis inserted, and when?

You can have a testicular prosthesis inserted during your initial tumor removal surgery or as a separate delayed procedure weeks or months later. These silicone-based implants restore natural appearance but do not regain hormonal function or fertility after an orchiectomy.

  • Immediate insertion: Surgeons place the implant during tumor removal to simplify recovery protocols.
  • Delayed insertion: Patients can opt for implantation later once the surgical site fully heals.
  • Device type: Modern clinics utilize saline-filled silicone shells to mimic natural testicular weight.
  • Recovery time: Full healing takes 4 to 6 weeks before resuming heavy physical lifting.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Italian urology centers like Ospedale San Carlo di Nancy handle high surgical volumes with over 15,000 annual hospitalizations. Our data shows that top Italian consultants, such as Dr. Caterina Lania at San Raffaele, specialize specifically in male genital organ pathologies. Choosing a clinic with JCI accreditation, like Maria Cecilia Hospital, ensures your surgeon follows international safety standards for implant placement.

Patient Consensus: Most patients report a significant boost in body image and reduced self-consciousness after the procedure. While hormone therapy is still necessary, the psychological benefit of restoring physical symmetry remains the primary driver for surgery.

Which Italian hospitals are recommended for testicular tumor surgery?

Italy offers world-class oncology centers in Milan and Rome specializing in testicular tumor surgery. Top-rated facilities like San Raffaele Hospital and Ospedale San Carlo di Nancy provide multidisciplinary care, integrating advanced urological surgery with specialized imaging and experimental therapies for rare uro-oncological conditions.

  • San Raffaele Hospital: High-volume Milan center performing over 8,400 urological operations annually for complex cases.
  • San Carlo di Nancy: Rome-based hospital recognized for robotic surgery using the Da Vinci robotic system.
  • Maria Cecilia Hospital: JCI-accredited facility in Bologna specializing in laparoscopic techniques for urological cancers.
  • Specialized oncology centers: Milan hubs like European Institute of Oncology offer 360-degree testicular cancer management.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While Milan is Italy's oncology hub, Rome centers often provide faster surgical scheduling. Ospedale San Carlo di Nancy manages 15,000 yearly hospitalizations, suggesting high efficiency. Combining surgery there with Milan-based specialists like Dr. Caterina Lania ensures access to top-tier expertise and technology.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize prioritizing high-volume academic centers over private clinics for better complication management. Ensuring the hospital provides rapid post-operative tumor marker monitoring is considered essential for recovery.
