I couldn’t be happier with my decision to come here, and my flight back to Hawaii was smooth and stress-free
I had an amazing experience with Dr. Park and the entire team! From start to finish, everyone—especially Joanne—was incredibly accommodating and attentive, which made me feel safe and well cared for. Dr. Park did an incredible job on my breast augmentation. Remarkably, after just one day of recovery, I was able to walk around Seoul, use public transport, and see all the sights I wanted to visit. Although it was slightly uncomfortable at times, I never experienced significant pain beyond the first few hours after waking from anesthesia. I truly believe this speaks to Dr. Park’s precision—and maybe a little to my own fast healing! The clinic goes above and beyond for their patients. I received IV therapy, red light therapy, and hyperbaric oxygen therapy, all of which made me feel well supported throughout recovery. Dr. Park and the team checked in consistently, which is such a green flag—so different from many experiences in the U.S., where doctors often focus solely on the surgery itself. I couldn’t be happier with my decision to come here, and my flight back to Hawaii was smooth and stress-free. I highly recommend Dr. Park for anyone seeking attentive, professional care and excellent results.

That gave me a lot of confidence
I really appreciated the time my doctor took during the consultation for my forehead and frown lines. He was so thorough, explaining exactly where and why he would inject, and was very honest about what realistic results would look like after showing me photos of previous patients. That gave me a lot of confidence. Now in my early recovery, I'm feeling better than expected. It was a good process. The final price was exactly what I was quoted, with no additional expenses. My only note is that there was little contact from the clinic after my appointment, but overall the service was solid.

FAQ about Jawline Contouring in Republic of Korea

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

When can I fly home after surgery?

Most patients can safely fly 10 to 14 days after jawline contouring in South Korea. While short regional flights under 4 hours may be possible after 7 days, long-haul international travel requires waiting at least 2 weeks to manage pressure-induced swelling and ensure surgical stability.

  • Travel window: Wait 14 to 21 days for flights exceeding 10 hours to avoid complications.
  • Surgical safety: Clinics like JK Plastic Surgery Center report higher success by monitoring early recovery.
  • Cabin pressure: High altitudes exacerbate fluid retention and swelling around the jaw and chin areas.
  • Recovery buffer: Peak swelling occurs on days 3 to 5, making travel during this period discouraged.

Bookimed Expert Insight: South Korean facial contouring specialists often require patients to stay 14 days due to the precision of bone work. Clinics like VG Plastic Surgery use advanced safety systems that prioritize this window. Data shows that patients who stay 2 weeks report better initial aesthetic results because they avoid the inflammatory effects of early cabin pressure.

Patient Consensus: Many patients suggest building in extra buffer days in Seoul. They emphasize that while you may feel ready to move, the physical stress of a long flight significantly increases facial tightness and discomfort.

What are the risks involved in jawline-contouring surgery?

Jawline contouring involves major structural changes with risks like temporary or permanent nerve damage, affecting sensation in the lip or chin. Patients may also face aesthetic over-reduction, asymmetrical results, or skin sagging. Specialized clinics in Seoul utilize 3D CT screening to minimize these surgical complications.

  • Nerve injury: Potential damage to the inferior alveolar nerve causes long-term numbness.
  • Aesthetic asymmetry: Inconsistent bone shaving or implant shifting often requires expensive revision surgery.
  • Soft tissue sagging: Significant bone removal reduces structural support, leading to visible skin laxity.
  • Healing complications: Risks include prolonged swelling, hematomas during cortical cuts, and infection.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Top-tier Seoul centers like JK Plastic Surgery Center or Severance Hospital emphasize advanced diagnostic imaging to prevent irreversible bone over-reduction. While many clinics offer aggressive V-line shaving, selecting a facility with 3D CT technology is vital. This tech maps your nerve pathways accurately, which is why some premier clinics maintain near-perfect safety records despite the high complexity of mandibular procedures.

Patient Consensus: Many patients report that while the 70% savings in Seoul are significant, the physical toll of 6-month recovery periods and temporary nerve numbness is a common reality. They often stress that psychological preparation is just as important as choosing a board-certified surgeon to avoid post-operative regret.

Is jawline-contouring surgery permanent?

Jawline contouring surgery in the Republic of Korea provides permanent structural changes because it involves physically reshaping the mandibular bone or placing medical-grade implants. These modifications, including V-line surgery and mandibular angle reduction, do not wear off over time since bone tissue does not regrow after surgical removal.

  • Bone reduction: Surgeons permanently shave or remove bone sections using 3D-CT guided contouring techniques.
  • Surgical implants: Biocompatible jaw or chin implants are designed to remain in place for a lifetime.
  • Genioplasty advancement: Sliding genioplasty physically repositions the chin bone to create a permanent new profile.
  • Fat removal: Liposuction permanently eliminates fat cells, though remaining cells can expand with weight gain.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While bone changes are lifelong, long-term definition often depends on masseter muscle management rather than bone regrowth. Data from top Seoul clinics like VG Plastic Surgery and JK Plastic Surgery Center show that patients who combine bone reduction with periodic Botox for muscle slimming maintain a sharper V-line over 5 to 10 years compared to those who undergo surgery alone.

Patient Consensus: Patients who had V-line surgery in Seoul over 7 years ago report their jawlines remain sharp, though many emphasize that gaining over 10 kg can temporarily mask the underlying permanent bone work. Maintaining stable weight and addressing skin laxity as you age are common recommendations to keep the results visible.

What is the difference between jaw reduction and V-line surgery?

The primary difference lies in the scope of reshaping. Jaw reduction narrows the posterior mandibular angles to soften a square face. V-line surgery is a comprehensive procedure combining jaw angle reduction with chin reshaping, typically via T-osteotomy, to create a sharp, tapered profile.

  • Surgical focus: Jaw reduction targets the back angles; V-line reshapes the entire lower face.
  • Chin involvement: V-line surgery always includes genioplasty or T-osteotomy to refine the chin point.
  • Aesthetic goal: Standard reduction softens squareness; V-line creates a slender, feminine V-shaped taper.
  • Techniques used: Doctors use cortical bone shaving for reduction and T-osteotomy for V-line contouring.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data from top Seoul clinics like JK Plastic Surgery Center shows that V-line surgery often achieves 3–4cm of total narrowing. While standard jaw reduction costs less, many patients eventually require chin work for a seamless transition. Choosing a clinic with 3D CT technology is vital to map nerve locations before these bone-shaving procedures.

Patient Consensus: Many patients find jaw reduction provides a more natural look long-term. Those choosing V-line surgery emphasize the importance of budgeting 2–3 months for full recovery due to increased swelling compared to simple angle shaving.

How long is the recovery period for V-line surgery?

Recovery involves a primary healing phase of 1 to 3 weeks, with major swelling and bruising subsiding within 2 to 6 weeks. While most patients resume desk work after 10 days, full bone healing and final contour visibility typically require 6 to 12 months.

  • Initial downtime: Swelling peaks between days 3 and 5, requiring 24/7 ice pack application.
  • Dietary restrictions: Patients follow a liquid or pureed diet for the first 2 weeks.
  • Social readiness: Most individuals feel socially presentable by week 3 as bruising significantly fades.
  • Nerve recovery: Temporary numbness or tingling in the chin often persists for 3 to 12 months.
  • Physical activity: Light walking is encouraged immediately, but strenuous exercise requires 4 to 6 weeks.

Bookimed Expert Insight: South Korean clinics like VG Plastic Surgery often utilize 3D planning and post-operative daily ultrasounds to accelerate healing. This specialized care frequently results in a faster initial recovery compared to Western standards, with many clinics reporting 90% recovery within 1 month.

Patient Consensus: Many describe an emotional low during the second week due to persistent facial swelling. Patients emphasize stocking up on liquid meal replacements and using masks to navigate public spaces during the first 14 days.

Will jawline-contouring surgery leave visible scars?

Jawline contouring surgery in the Republic of Korea typically leaves no visible external scars. Surgeons primarily use an intraoral approach, placing incisions along the lower gum line inside the mouth. These internal marks remain completely hidden from view and generally fade within 12 months.

  • Incision placement: Surgeons utilize an intraoral approach to ensure zero visible facial scarring.
  • Endoscopic technique: Advanced endoscopic tools allow precise bone shaping through minimal internal openings.
  • Healing timeline: Internal tissue typically stabilizes and scars fade over 6 to 12 months.
  • External exceptions: Procedures like liposuction may require tiny, discreet 2-millimeter under-chin marks.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many global clinics still use external neck incisions for submandibular gland reduction, top Seoul centers like VG Plastic Surgery and JK Plastic Surgery Center prioritize an intraoral-only method. This technique preserves the jawline's aesthetic profile without the risk of visible neck tethering or hypertrophic scarring often seen with external approaches.

Patient Consensus: Patients report that while gumline incisions feel tight initially, they become unnoticeable even when smiling widely. Most recommend following strict oral hygiene protocols and waiting 1 full year for a final scar assessment.

Are there non-surgical options for jawline contouring?

Non-surgical jawline contouring defines the lower face through injectables, energy-based skin tightening, and thread lifts. These minimally invasive techniques at Seoul clinics like Oracle Clinic Cheongdam and Forena Clinic provide immediate sharpening or slimming results with little to no downtime for patients from over 47 countries.

  • Injectable fillers: Hyaluronic acid adds volume and sharpens mandate angles for 12–24 months.
  • Masseter Botox: Relaxes jaw muscles to slim square face shapes into V-line profiles.
  • Ultherapy and HIFU: Ultrasound energy lifts sagging skin by stimulating deep dermal collagen production.
  • PDO thread lifts: Dissolvable threads physically reposition tissue and improve jawline definition instantly.

Bookimed Expert Insight: High-volume centers like Seoul Miz Hospital and Forena Clinic serve over 20,000 patients annually by bundling masseter Botox with chin fillers. This combination addresses both muscle bulk and bone structure in one 30-minute session. While individual treatments are common, these combo protocols are the standard for achieving the specific V-line aesthetic popularized in Korean cosmetic medicine.

Patient Consensus: Many patients recommend starting with masseter Botox as an affordable trial for jaw slimming. Those seeking a sharp V-line profile suggest budgeting for maintenance every 6 to 18 months to prevent results from fading.

How long should international patients stay in Korea after jawline-contouring surgery?

International patients should stay in the Republic of Korea for 10 to 14 days after jawline contouring. This timeframe ensures doctors can remove stitches and monitor peak swelling before long-haul travel. Most surgeons specifically clear patients for air travel only after a final follow-up on day 10.

  • Minimum stay: Plan 10 days for essential stitch removal and infection checks.
  • Peak swelling: Stay local during days 5 to 7 when facial swelling typically peaks.
  • Fit to fly: Secure official medical clearance after your day 10 post-operative visit.
  • Ideal window: Staying 14 to 21 days allows swelling to subside for easier travel.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data from top Seoul clinics like VG Plastic Surgery and JK Plastic Surgery Center shows a trend toward combined procedures. Many patients pair jaw reduction with genioplasty, which increases the necessity of the 14-day stay. Clinics with high international volumes often have specialized recovery systems to manage this specific timeline safely.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize staying at least 10 days to avoid airport difficulties while heavily swollen. Many recommend booking accommodations specifically in the Gangnam area to minimize travel stress during the first week of recovery.

Is it safe to have jawline contouring in Korea?

Jawline contouring in Republic of Korea is safe when performed by board-certified plastic surgeons. These surgeons work in KOIHA-accredited hospitals. Safe outcomes rely on precision 3D-CT diagnostics and specialist anaesthetists. Leading Seoul clinics maintain university-grade safety systems. They report zero medical accidents over decades and provide dedicated international patient support teams.

  • Board certification: Surgeons like Dr. Seung-hyung Noh at Seoul Miz Hospital hold specialist plastic surgery credentials.
  • Safety systems: Clinics like AB Plastic Surgery provide 24-hour CCTV monitoring in all operating theatres.
  • Diagnostic precision: Specialists use 3D-CT scanning at VG Plastic Surgery to map nerves before cutting bone.
  • Advanced recovery: SAERO Plastic Surgery includes hyperbaric oxygen therapy to reduce swelling and speed healing.

Bookimed Expert Insight: The safest results in Seoul often come from clinics with a high specialist-to-patient ratio. AB Plastic Surgery maintains an anaesthesiology specialist ratio double the industry average. This ensures constant monitoring during bone reduction. Such monitoring is vital for managing the standard risks of general anaesthesia.

Patient Consensus: Safety depends on choosing clinics with clear anaesthesia cover and English translation support. Patients recommend getting pre-op CT scans. They also advise being prepared for a recovery that can take a year.

What is the recovery time for V-Line surgery?

Recovery from V-line surgery in the Republic of Korea involves an initial healing phase of 7 to 10 days. Most patients return to daily activities within 2 to 3 weeks. However, final results and complete swelling resolution typically require 6 to 12 months.

  • Immediate healing: Critical swelling and bruising peak within the first 48 to 72 hours.
  • Clinical support: Packages at SAERO Plastic Surgery include hyperbaric oxygen therapy to accelerate healing.
  • Dietary transition: Patients maintain a liquid or soft diet for 2 to 4 weeks.
  • Physical activity: Most individuals resume light exercise and work after approximately 3 to 4 weeks.
  • Travel planning: A stay in Seoul for 7 to 14 days is recommended for monitoring.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Korean clinics like VG Plastic Surgery and SAERO use hyperbaric oxygen therapy as standard aftercare. This treatment increases oxygen levels in the blood. It significantly reduces post-operative swelling compared to standard home recovery, helping international patients fly home sooner.

Patient Consensus: Initial facial puffiness is obvious during the first month in South Korea. Most swelling subsides by 3 months. Expect subtle jawline changes to continue for up to a full year.

What is V-line surgery in Korea?

V-line surgery in South Korea is a facial contouring procedure. It reshapes a wide or square jaw into a slim, tapered V-shape.

This surgery typically combines jawbone reduction with chin reshaping. It often uses T-osteotomy techniques to narrow the lower face while maintaining natural proportions.

  • Surgical bone reduction: Surgeons shave the mandibular angle and outer bone layer to slim the profile.
  • Chin refinement: Genioplasty narrows or repositions the chin tip for a more pointed, delicate appearance.
  • Soft tissue adjustment: Specialists may remove buccal fat or reduce masseter muscles to enhance contouring.
  • Advanced diagnostics: Clinics like VG Plastic Surgery use 3D-CT scans to map nerves and bone.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While bone-shaving is the standard, many Seoul clinics now integrate fat grafting or hyperbaric oxygen therapy. They include these in their V-line packages. Clinics like SAERO Plastic Surgery include these therapies. They improve healing and help the skin stay firm after bone reduction.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Korea report manageable discomfort. They advise planning for significant swelling that takes months to fully settle. Experience suggests confirming if skin tightening is needed alongside bone reduction. This prevents potential sagging and keeps the jawline smooth.

What is the difference between V-Line and Jaw Angle Reduction?

V-line surgery is a comprehensive procedure that combines jaw angle reduction with chin reshaping. This creates a tapered V-shaped profile. In contrast, jaw angle reduction (square jaw surgery) targets only the bony corners near the ears. This reduces lower face width without altering the chin.

  • Target area: V-line surgery treats the jaw angles and chin. In contrast, angle reduction treats only the posterior mandible.
  • Technique used: V-line involves mandible cuts plus a T-osteotomy chin reshape. Angle reduction uses bone shaving or resection.
  • Aesthetic goal: V-line creates a sharp, feminine taper. Angle reduction simply softens a boxy or square-shaped jawline.
  • Outcome shape: V-line produces a narrow, pointed chin. Angle reduction leaves the original chin width and shape intact.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Many patients overlook that V-line surgery is actually a bundle of discrete procedures. Combining surgical bone reduction with fat grafting can prevent a hollowed look. SAERO Plastic Surgery data confirms this. Aggressive bone work alone sometimes causes that look.

Patient Consensus: V-line surgery in Republic of Korea is a major bone operation. So ask specialists which exact areas they intend to reshape. Choosing the right procedure helps avoid long-term sagging while achieving a naturally slimmed appearance.

What non-surgical options are available for jaw contouring?

Non-surgical jaw contouring in South Korea utilises masseter botulinum toxin injections, hyaluronic acid fillers, and energy-based tightening to reshape the lower face without surgery. These minimally invasive techniques define the jawbone, slim muscle bulk, and lift sagging tissue with little to no downtime.

  • Muscle slimming: Masseter Botox relaxes chewing muscles to reduce a square or bulky jawline appearance.
  • Profile balancing: Dermal fillers add volume to the chin or mandibular angle for better definition.
  • Skin tightening: Ultherapy and Thermage use ultrasound or radiofrequency to lift jowls and firm skin.
  • Mechanical lifting: Thread lifts use dissolvable sutures to physically pull back and sharpen the jawline.
  • Natural volumisation: Fat grafting uses the body's own tissue to contour the jaw without synthetic implants.

Bookimed Expert Insight: South Korean dermatologists often use 3D MetaView skin analysis to map facial structure before treatment. One example is Lalian Cheongdam Clinic. This data-driven approach allows for precise V-contour stacking. It combines masseter slimming with chin projection to create a balanced profile. Bone-only surgery cannot always achieve this.

Patient Consensus: Patients in the Republic of Korea find masseter Botox most effective for slimming. Combining chin filler with skin tightening provides the best overall definition. They note that while non-surgical options reshape appearances, they cannot alter underlying bone structure.

What should I prepare for a consultation?

For a jawline contouring consultation in the Republic of Korea, patients should prepare in three ways. They need to define their aesthetic goals, gather medical history, and research clinic-specific techniques. Patients should identify if their concerns relate to bone structure, muscle bulk, or fat distribution. This helps specialists choose the most effective surgical or non-surgical approach.

  • Goal definition: Note if the objective is a slimmer jaw, sharper angle, or facial balancing.
  • Clinical data: Bring previous 3D-CT scans or X-rays if available for bone structure analysis.
  • Surgical vs non-surgical: Ask if results require bone reduction, fat grafting, or masseter Botox injections.
  • Safety questions: Confirm the number of on-site anaesthetists and availability of 24-hour CCTV monitoring.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Leading Seoul clinics like AB Plastic Surgery maintain an anaesthesiology specialist ratio double the industry average. When preparing, patients should confirm if the quoted price includes hyperbaric oxygen therapy or wound care. These aftercare services are standard at centres like SAERO Plastic Surgery. They significantly accelerate recovery for international patients flying back to Australia.

Patient Consensus: Researching the target look beforehand helps steer the conversation toward a softer, more harmonious appearance. Australian patients found having an English translator arranged before the session ensured clear communication regarding anaesthesia.
