Trustworthy, reassuring and all round lovely Dr and person About the Doctor: Trustworthy, reassuring and all round lovely Dr and person About the Clinic: Yes - overall support was brilliant
Trustworthy, reassuring and all round lovely Dr and person Thank you - excited be able to enjoy life again! Yes - overall support was brilliant. Fouad from Bookimed was so patient with me and so helpful, and not sure Teresa ever sleeps. Thank you both! However due to timing I think the initial 24 hours I assume would be better usually, but it is holiday season - I think better expectation setting there and having someone on hand at departure who could inform me of the steps and answer my questions - but despite this I am sure the follow up for me in that short window would not being the usual experience as otherwise the support was amazing and I was given time during holidays by Dr G which I value and appreciate - it is an important time of the process though so I would recommend having someone like Mercedes on hand! It’s scary seeing yourself after surgery and I was left feeling very unaware for nearly 48 hours! I do want to highlight that everyone in the hospital was great and professional the two nurses who looked after me directly after the surgery were so lovely and obviously all involved in the surgery and end to end treatment - but extra special thanks to you Mercedes - a really special human and very valuable member and representative of the organisation and hospital! Thank you

There was only one seal, so I advise you to make the documents more official, so that you would not be so scared to pay for the consultation
Passed online consultation. After the consultation, a treatment plan was created, which we will undergo, further consultations will continue. Online consultation is very convenient and of course there were some doubts, especially when the invoice was billed, because it was a bit confusing, there was only one seal, so I advise you to make the documents more official, so that you would not be so scared to pay for the consultation.

FAQ about Breast Augmentation with Saline Implants in Spain

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Are saline implants safe?

Saline breast implants are a safe, FDA-approved option for augmentation and reconstruction after age 18. They consist of a silicone shell filled with sterile salt water, which the body harmlessly absorbs if a rupture occurs, providing an immediately visible safety signal.

  • Rupture safety: Sterile saline leaks pose no toxicity risks and are naturally metabolised.
  • Immediate detection: Deflation is obvious, preventing the silent leaks sometimes associated with silicone Gel.
  • Facility standards: Spanish clinics like Hospital Ruber Internacional maintain Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation.
  • Surgical expertise: Board-certified surgeons like Gabriel Planas prioritize placement techniques that minimize visible rippling.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many choose saline for peace of mind regarding leaks, Spanish clinics often use them for specific reconstruction cases. Data from top Madrid facilities shows that patients prioritize these implants when they want a definitive visual indicator of implant integrity without needing regular MRI screenings.

Patient Consensus: Many patients report choosing saline to avoid worries about silent ruptures. They appreciate the simpler monitoring process despite noting that the implants can feel firmer than silicone alternatives.

Will saline implants interfere with breastfeeding?

Saline implants do not affect milk safety as sterile salt water is naturally reabsorbed if leaks occur. Breastfeeding success depends primarily on surgical technique. Techniques like under-the-muscle placement and incisions made below the breast significantly reduce the risk of duct or nerve damage.

  • Placement technique: Under-the-muscle placement preserves gland function better than over-the-muscle approaches.
  • Incision location: Submammary incisions below the breast protect milk ducts compared to periareolar cuts.
  • Milk production: Fillers like saline do not impact milk supply or nutritional quality.
  • Anatomical recovery: Damaged milk ducts may heal or form new pathways over time.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Spain’s top facilities, like JCI-accredited Hospital Ruber Internacional, emphasize submammary incisions to protect breastfeeding potential. Data suggests that patients choosing specialists like Dr. Gabriel Planas benefit from advanced techniques that prioritize the integrity of the milk-producing glands. While saline implants in Spain range from $3,500 to $6,500, the focus remains on long-term functional outcomes.

Patient Consensus: Patients report that while breasts feel larger during pregnancy, implants do not hinder nursing. Most emphasize that issues like poor latch are often unrelated to the presence of implants.

Why choose saline implants over silicone in Spain?

Patients choose saline implants in Spain for immediate rupture detection, lower costs, and safety. Saline allows for smaller incisions because surgeons fill the implants after insertion. Spanish protocols often use saline in reconstruction, reinforcing its reputation as a trusted, biocompatible alternative to silicone gel.

  • Rupture detection: Deflation is immediate and obvious, unlike silent silicone ruptures.
  • Affordable pricing: Procedure costs $3,500 to $6,500, saving up to 49% versus US averages.
  • Surgical technique: Empty insertion enables smaller, less noticeable scars compared to pre-filled silicone.
  • Biocompatible fill: Ruptured implants release sterile saltwater that the body naturally absorbs.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While silicone is globally popular, Spain has a strong historical preference for saline safety. Hospitals like Ruber Internacional in Madrid maintain JCI standards, ensuring high-quality saline alternatives. Choosing saline here often results in more frequent follow-up ease without needing expensive MRIs for monitoring.

Patient Consensus: Many feel more secure knowing a leak is visible right away. They appreciate the cost savings and the peace of mind that comes from using a naturally absorbable material.

Will I need to replace my saline implants later?

Saline implants are not lifetime devices and typically require replacement after 10 to 20 years. While not mandatory without complications, you must replace them if a rupture occurs or if you experience significant capsular contracture or aesthetic shifts in the breast tissue.

  • Typical lifespan: Most saline implants function optimally for 10 to 20 years before replacement.
  • Rupture detection: Deflation happens within 1-2 days, making saline leaks visible and easy to diagnose.
  • Medical necessity: Surgeons recommend replacement for capsular contracture, which causes hardening or breast pain.
  • Surgical expertise: Specialist surgeons in Barcelona and Madrid prioritize JCI-accredited safety standards during revisions.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Patients often worry about the health risks of leaks, but saline is naturally absorbed. Data shows that many saline implants actually remain intact for over 25 years. I recommend waiting for a clinical reason to replace them rather than following a strict 10-year rule.

Patient Consensus: Patients value how obvious a saline rupture is compared to silicone. They often choose the `if it is not broken, do not fix it` approach to avoid unnecessary surgery.

How long is the recovery time?

Recovery after breast augmentation with saline implants in Spain typically takes 3 weeks for most daily activities. While initial discomfort subsides within 4 days, achieving a full range of motion requires 4 weeks. Internal tissue healing and the final drop and fluff settling usually conclude around 5 months.

  • Initial pain relief: Post-operative pain generally decreases significantly after 2 to 4 days.
  • Return to work: Most desk-based employees resume professional duties within 7 days.
  • Physical activity limits: Patients must avoid heavy lifting and high-impact exercise for 4 weeks.
  • Final aesthetic result: Complete surgical healing and scar maturation take 6 to 12 months.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Spain hosts world-class facilities like Hospital Ruber Internacional in Madrid, which holds JCI and ISO certifications. High-volume centers often provide superior post-operative monitoring. Data shows specialized surgeons like those at Clínica Planas in Barcelona offer extensive experience that helps streamline recovery through precise surgical techinques.

Patient Consensus: Many patients find day 4 to be a major turning point in their recovery journey. They frequently recommend sleeping in a reclined position for 2 weeks to manage swelling effectively.

What incision techniques are commonly used?

Breast augmentation with saline implants in Spain primarily utilizes inframammary, periareolar, and transaxillary incision techniques. Surgeons select these approaches based on anatomical goals and the ability to insert saline implants while deflated. Spanish clinics offer both submuscular and subglandular placement to optimize aesthetic outcomes.

  • Inframammary incision: Placed in the lower breast crease for maximum surgical visibility and control.
  • Transaxillary approach: Hidden incision within the armpit, often performed using advanced endoscopic assistance.
  • Periareolar technique: Small incision around the nipple edge, ideal for patients requiring simultaneous lifting.
  • Submuscular placement: Positioning the implant under the chest muscle to improve long-term stability.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many countries favor silicone, Spanish specialists like those at Clínica Planas often recommend saline for transumbilical or transaxillary approaches. These techniques allow surgeons to insert empty shells through very small incisions. The implants are filled only once correctly positioned, minimizing visible scarring significantly.

Patient Consensus: Patients often prefer the inframammary approach for its reliability. Those concerned about visible scars choose the transaxillary method to keep markings hidden within the armpit.

Can I combine a breast lift with saline implants?

Combining a breast lift with saline implants is a common surgical procedure known as augmentation-mastopexy. This dual approach addresses sagging while restoring volume lost through aging or weight fluctuations. Spanish clinics frequently use periareolar incisions to manage both lifting and implant insertion simultaneously.

  • Procedure goal: Repositions the nipple-areola complex higher while increasing breast fullness/cleavage.
  • Incision style: Surgeons often utilize periareolar incisions to minimize visible scarring.
  • Saline benefit: Implants are filled after insertion, allowing for smaller entry points.
  • Spanish standards: Surgery in Spain typically occurs in JCI-accredited facilities in Madrid.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While technically possible, saline implants are notably rare in Spain. Leading centers like Clínica Planas or Hospital Ruber Internacional primarily use silicone. Patients seeking saline must confirm stock availability months before traveling. This ensures the surgeon can accommodate specific material preferences during the mastopexy.

Patient Consensus: Travelers emphasize the importance of packing zip-up hoodies for easier post-operative dressing. They also note that implants are a long-term commitment requiring monitoring every 10 years.
