I am confident I am going to beat this breast tumor with the help of the wonderful care given at Hisar Intercontinental Hospital
I was really nervous about a new breast lump that developed. I reached out to Book I med and explained my situation. I was directed to Hisar Intercontinental Hospital. They did biopsy, ultrasound and PET scan. Although I wanted surgery, doctor explained it wasn't in my best interest and recommended medication instead. Doctors were careful to come up with plan, they didn't rush to make decisions. I had a medical coordinator who assisted in transportation to and from hospital and coordinating tests and doctor visits. I was also assigned an interpreter for Turkish to English. They were both wonderful and it was nice to have assistance and smiling faces when I arrived. They always took time to listen to concerns and answer questions. I met with 2 doctors, a breast cancer surgeon and oncologist. They both were professional and friendly. They met with a tumor board of physicians to discuss my plan.I feel like I got professional care and good treatment plan. The hospital was clean and modern. They did a good job with the tests, I didn't feel any pain from the doctor who did my biopsy. Believe me when you have something as scary as a breast lump you want to be in good hands.I paid for each test and medication individually with credit card. I was told the cost before each purchase. Even though the whole bill wasn't cheap, it's much much lower cost than I could get in United States. As a self pay patient I am glad for that also. So overall even though I was struggling with something really bad(tumor) I feel like I got great and professional care at a decent price. I would truly recommend this to anyone. And Turkey is such a beautiful country with friendly people. There is hidden artwork everywhere. So even though I am going through this ordeal being in beautiful Turkey makes it not so bad. The food here is really good and cheap. I'm staying in Old city which has tons of Cafe restaurants. In your spare time just sitting at a Cafe and watching the myriad of people walking by is fun. I am confident I am going to beat this breast tumor with the help of the wonderful care given at Hisar Intercontinental Hospital.

I would like to express my gratitude to my attending doctor, surgeon, my coordinator, all nurses and interpreters
I was treated for breast cancer, I liked everything, I had chemotherapy, surgery, and radiotherapy, and now every 3 months I have check-ups. I would like to express my gratitude to my attending doctor, surgeon, my coordinator, all nurses and interpreters, I remember when I first arrived, I was so confused, panic and fear. But as soon as the treatment started, everything went in its own way, I had to go through everything and I am glad I did. Thank you!

FAQ about treatment in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

How long do I need to stay in Antalya after the surgery?

A lumpectomy in Antalya typically requires a stay of 5 to 7 days. While the procedure often allows same-day discharge, surgeons require patients to stay locally for wound stabilization. Patients must wait at least 48 hours after anesthesia before flying. This makes sure it's safe and they get travel clearance.

  • Hospital stay: Most patients are discharged within 24 hours after breast-conserving surgery.
  • Drain management: Stays extend to 14 days if lymph node removal requires surgical drains.
  • Travel clearance: Surgeons at JCI-accredited facilities provide fit-to-fly letters after final inspections.
  • Arm mobility: Recovery includes physical checks to make sure you can safely handle light luggage.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Antalya oncology centers like Memorial Antalya Hospital follow ESMO guidelines for breast-saving operations. Our data shows international patients benefit from 5-star guest houses for post-op rest. Choosing a facility with TrueBeam STx technology often means more precise, localized treatment protocols.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize having a companion for the first night due to post-anesthesia grogginess. Practical advice includes avoiding heavy lifting and pools for several weeks to prevent infection.

What is typically included in an Antalya medical tourism package?

In Antalya, lumpectomy packages usually bundle surgical fees, pre-surgery tests, and VIP logistics into one price. Most packages include hospital stays at JCI-accredited facilities, private airport transfers, 5-star accommodation, and multilingual coordinators. This means your medical trip runs smoothly.

  • Medical diagnostics: Pre-surgery blood tests, oncology consultations, and imaging scans.
  • Hospitalization services: Operating theater fees, nursing care, and meals during the hospital stay.
  • Logistics support: VIP airport pickups and private shuttles between the hotel and clinic.
  • International services: 24/7 personal coordinators and professional interpreters for all medical consultations.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Antalya clinics like Memorial Antalya Hospital often provide a 5-star guest house specifically for international patients. This is a big advantage over standard hotels. These dedicated facilities understand oncology recovery needs better than tourist-heavy beach resorts. Always check if your package uses these specialized medical residences.

Patient Consensus: Patients value packages that include accommodation for a companion. They say professional coordination is less about luxury and more about avoiding travel chaos. Make sure your contract includes oncology-specific follow-up care before you travel.

Will I need additional treatments like radiation therapy after a lumpectomy in Antalya?

Radiation therapy is often needed after a lumpectomy in Antalya. It helps eliminate microscopic cancer cells and lowers the risk of the cancer returning. Clinics like Memorial Antalya Hospital follow international NCCN and ESMO guidelines. About 80% of their oncology patients receive radiotherapy with TrueBeam STx technology.

  • Pathology analysis: Tumor size and hormone receptor status determine if radiation is necessary for recovery.
  • Surgical margins: Clear margins give your treatment plan more flexibility. Positive margins usually require immediate follow-up radiation therapy.
  • Patient age: Patients over 70 with low-risk tumors can sometimes skip radiation and have endocrine therapy instead.
  • Technology access: Facilities like Medical Park Antalya Hospital Complex use LINAC technology for precise breast treatments.

Bookimed Expert Insight: International patients often focus only on the surgery. However, Memorial Antalya Hospital data shows that 80% of their oncology cases require integrated radiotherapy. Radiation usually starts 4 to 8 weeks after surgery. So patients should plan for a longer stay or a second trip to use the TrueBeam STx systems at these JCI-accredited centers.

Patient Consensus: Patients say that a lumpectomy is rarely a standalone procedure. It often requires 15 to 33 radiation sessions. Side effects like fatigue are common. However, the precise equipment in Antalya helps manage skin discomfort during the 6-week recovery period.
