How Much Does Immunotherapy with Keytruda (Pembolizumab) Cost in Istanbul?

Immunotherapy with Keytruda (Pembolizumab) in Istanbul typically costs from $4,500 to $6,900. Total expenses depend on the medication dosage, the number of treatment cycles, and diagnostic requirements like PET-CT scans. Patients save around 69% compared to the US, where this treatment costs $21,500 on average. Prices usually include oncologist consultations, blood tests, and airport transfers.

  • Dosage requirements: Costs vary significantly between 100mg and 200mg doses administered every three to six weeks.
  • Diagnostic imaging: Adding PET-CT or MRI scans to a treatment cycle typically increases the base price.
  • Clinic accreditation: Premium JCI-accredited facilities often bundle medication with VIP services and dedicated international patient coordination.
  • Expert fees: Prices may reflect the experience level of ESMO-certified oncologists or university-affiliated professors.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Istanbul concentrated the highest number of JCI-accredited oncology centers in Turkey, offering a structural advantage for complex immunotherapy. These facilities, such as Anadolu Medical Center, maintain direct affiliations with Johns Hopkins Hospital. This allows patients to access American-standard protocols. Choosing a multi-specialty hub like Medipol Mega lets patients combine treatment with advanced diagnostics like CyberKnife under one roof, often yielding better value than smaller clinics.

Data verified by Bookimed as of August 2026, based on patient requests and official quotes from 63 clinics worldwide. Median costs are based on real invoices (2025–2026) and updated monthly. Actual prices may vary.

The doctor and all the staff have been very attentive and professional, which gives me confidence that I made the right choice of clinic and treatment process
My main concern before starting treatment was how my body would react to the drug. I’m undergoing a course of Keytruda immunotherapy for kidney cancer, receiving an infusion every three weeks. Yes, I have experienced some side effects. These are mainly digestive issues, and I feel a little more tired. Of course, I am still concerned that these might get worse over time. But I must say that the doctor and all the staff have been very attentive and professional, which gives me confidence that I made the right choice of clinic and treatment process.

I wholeheartedly recommend them—and the hospital—without hesitation
I can’t thank Professor Sezer Sağlam and our guide Aliçer enough for the incredible care they showed during our visit to Florence Nightingale Hospital. I was very worried about the trip and my mum’s consultation, especially after a previous bad experience at another hospital where we were constantly pushed to upsell unnecessary scans. At Florence Nightingale, there was none of that—everything was professional, honest, and focused on what my mum actually needed. Their kindness, attentiveness, and guidance turned a stressful experience into one where we truly felt cared for. I wholeheartedly recommend them—and the hospital—without hesitation.

FAQ about treatment in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Are the oncologists in Istanbul certified to administer immunotherapy?

Medical oncologists in Istanbul are certified by the Turkish Ministry of Health. They often hold European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) board certifications. These specialists work in JCI-accredited facilities. They follow international NCCN guidelines to safely give immune checkpoint inhibitors like Keytruda.

  • Specialist training: Oncologists complete intensive residencies and national board exams for sub-specialty certification.
  • Global credentials: Experts like Professor Yesim Yildirim hold ESMO board certifications.
  • Hospital standards: JCI-accredited centers like Memorial Sisli follow protocols for biologic therapies.
  • Academic affiliations: Clinics like Anadolu Medical Center are clinically affiliated with Johns Hopkins.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Istanbul hospitals stand out for their high-volume specialization. Professor Yesim Yildirim at Anadolu Medical Center has over 20 years of experience and is ESMO certified. This institutional experience often leads to more personalized, biomarker-driven protocols. These protocols are tailored for complex stage 4 cases.

Patient Consensus: Patients stress the importance of confirming that the doctor is a medical oncologist, not a general practitioner. They report that bringing detailed pathology and biomarker results is vital. This information helps determine eligibility for Keytruda infusions.

Which top medical centers and hospitals in Istanbul offer Keytruda immunotherapy?

Top medical centers in Istanbul offering Keytruda immunotherapy include Anadolu Medical Center, Memorial Şişli Hospital, and Istanbul Florence Nightingale Hospital. These JCI-accredited facilities provide pembrolizumab for several cancers, including lung, kidney, and gastrointestinal ones. Treatment is guided by biomarker testing and multidisciplinary tumor boards.

  • Anadolu Medical Center: Affiliated with Johns Hopkins Medicine, it serves more than 65,000 patients a year and has OECI-accredited oncology.
  • Memorial Şişli Hospital: The first Turkish hospital to earn JCI accreditation, it specializes in precision immunotherapy and genomics.
  • Florence Nightingale Hospital: A certified Smart-and-Green facility, it provides biologic therapies backed by international ISO quality standards.
  • Hisar Hospital Intercontinental: Uses MR-LINAC technology and specialized oncology units to care for patients on the Asian side.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Anadolu Medical Center stands out because its oncologists, such as Prof. Dr. Yesim Yildirim, hold dual ESMO certifications and have trained at top centers in the UK and Israel. This deep expertise in tumor biology often results in more precise PD-L1 biomarker interpretation. Accurate interpretation is critical for Keytruda success.

Patient Consensus: Patients recommend contacting the medical oncology department directly to confirm drug availability. They report feeling more confident when clinics provide personal coordinators who help manage infusion-related fatigue and digestive side effects.

What types of cancers are commonly treated with Keytruda in Istanbul clinics?

Istanbul oncology centers commonly treat non-small cell lung cancer, melanoma, and triple-negative breast cancer with Keytruda. These JCI-accredited clinics also use pembrolizumab for kidney, bladder, and head and neck cancers. Treatment typically needs a positive PD-L1 or MSI-H/dMMR biomarker status for best results.

  • Lung cancer: Used for advanced or metastatic non-small cell lung cancer as first-line therapy.
  • Melanoma: Effective for unresectable or metastatic cases and as adjuvant treatment after surgery.
  • Breast cancer: Standard for high-risk early-stage or metastatic triple-negative breast cancer cases.
  • Gastrointestinal tumors: Used for colorectal and gastric cancers that have high microsatellite instability.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data from Istanbul facilities like Anadolu Medical Center shows a trend toward precision oncology. This trend is linked to Johns Hopkins affiliations. Surgeons often use Keytruda for late-stage cases. They also use it as perioperative therapy for triple-negative breast cancer. This earlier intervention aims to shrink tumors before surgery, potentially improving long-term surgical outcomes.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize that the three-week infusion cycle is manageable. But monitoring for side effects like fatigue or thyroid changes is vital. Patients appreciate the transparent approach in Istanbul. Biomarker testing directly dictates whether this immunotherapy will be effective.

What does the treatment journey look like for international patients arriving in Istanbul for immunotherapy with Keytruda?

International patients in Istanbul can get Keytruda through a medical tourism pathway at JCI-accredited facilities. The journey includes remote biomarker evaluation, VIP logistics, and outpatient infusions. The infusions are overseen by ESMO-certified oncologists. They work at major centers like Anadolu Medical Center or Hisar Hospital Intercontinental.

  • Remote evaluation: Specialists review PD-L1 biomarkers and PET-CT scans before patients travel to Turkey.
  • Arrival logistics: Clinics provide VIP airport transfers and accommodation assistance near the oncology center.
  • Onsite diagnostics: Patients get blood tests and imaging to check tumor status before the infusion.
  • Infusion process: Keytruda is given intravenously over 30–60 minutes in day-care oncology units.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Many focus on the drug cost. But the real advantage in Istanbul is the Johns Hopkins or MD Anderson affiliations at centers like Anadolu or Hisar. These clinics use multidisciplinary boards. The boards make sure Keytruda is the best choice, not just an on-demand infusion.

Patient Consensus: Patients appreciate having dedicated interpreters who speak their language. They also report that while cumulative fatigue is common, the attentive staff makes the three-week infusion cycles manageable.

Does Turkish state health insurance (SSI) cover Keytruda for foreign or local patients in Istanbul?

Turkish state health insurance (SSI/SGK) does not cover Keytruda for international patients or medical tourists in Istanbul. Local residents with active SGK contributions get partial coverage only for specific conditions like non-small cell lung cancer. For other diagnoses, they need to appeal through the courts to get reimbursed.

  • International patient coverage: State reimbursement does not apply to non-residents or foreign medical tourists.
  • Local resident criteria: Coverage is limited to specific approved cancer indications under SUT regulations.
  • Out-of-pocket costs: International patients typically pay $4,500 to $6,900 per cycle.
  • Legal approval route: Local patients often file lawsuits for off-label use not on reimbursement lists.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Patients often choose Istanbul because Keytruda costs are about 69% lower than the $21,500 US average. State insurance is not available for foreigners. However, private centers like Anadolu Medical Center provide direct access without the bureaucratic delays found in the state system, and this speed is vital for immunotherapy success.

Patient Consensus: Patients point out that infusions every three weeks can cause fatigue or digestive issues. Still, the attentive care in private Istanbul hospitals builds significant confidence. Patients suggest verifying specific diagnosis approval early to manage financial expectations.

How is an international patient's treatment journey for Keytruda immunotherapy organized remotely before arriving in Istanbul?

International patients arrange Keytruda immunotherapy in Istanbul through a structured remote process. The workflow includes digital file intake, multidisciplinary tumor board reviews, and dedicated case management. Key steps include verifying PD-L1 biomarker status. Patients also get medical invitation letters for visas from JCI-accredited facilities like Anadolu Medical Center.

  • Digital intake: Patients submit pathology, imaging, and lab reports for remote eligibility assessment.
  • Expert review: Oncologists like Prof. Dr. Yesim Yildirim confirm the treatment plan before the patient travels.
  • Financial estimates: Clinics provide itemized cost estimates covering drug cycles and necessary diagnostic checks.
  • Logistics planning: Coordinators arrange VIP transfers, local accommodations, and outpatient oncology appointments.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While immunotherapy is widely available, centers like Anadolu Medical Center stand out. Their unique advantage is a Johns Hopkins affiliation. Our data shows that patients who submit PD-L1 results remotely often save 2–3 days in Istanbul, since they bypass initial diagnostic delays. For children, specialized units are often a better fit. The 45-bed facility at Emsey Hospital, for example, is well-equipped for young patients needing Keytruda.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize that contacting the international desk early leads to a smooth transition. Patients recommend bringing both digital and paper copies of pathology reports. That way, they avoid redundant testing upon arrival.

Are diagnostic and logistical services bundled into immunotherapy with Keytruda (Pembrolizumab) treatment packages in Istanbul?

Immunotherapy packages in Istanbul typically bundle logistical support like airport transfers and interpreters. However, medical diagnostics are usually separate. Initial consultations might be included. However, screenings like PET-CT scans and multi-cycle monitoring often require separate billing. This accommodates each patient’s weight and dosage needs.

  • Logistical bundling: JCI-accredited hospitals often include VIP airport transfers and multi-lingual medical interpreters.
  • Diagnostic structure: Basic blood work is often bundled, while PET-CT scans are billed separately.
  • Infusion cycles: The price usually includes the drug, pharmacy preparation, nursing administration, and safety monitoring.
  • Monitoring requirements: Routine metabolic panels and thyroid tests are usually billed per infusion cycle.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Base costs for Keytruda infusions in Istanbul range from $4,500 to $6,900. However, the real value lies in the coordination. Leading centers like Anadolu Medical Center or Hisar Hospital Intercontinental provide dedicated case managers. These managers coordinate off-site hotel stays with the three-week infusion schedule. This prevents costly travel overlaps for international patients.

Patient Consensus: Patients appreciate the attentive care of Istanbul staff but emphasize requesting an itemized quote. Patients find that medication costs are clear. However, arranging separate logistics for diagnostic follow-ups requires careful planning.

Is Keytruda covered by the social security system for patients in Istanbul?

Keytruda is covered by Turkey's social security institution (SGK) in Istanbul. However, reimbursement is strictly limited to specific cancer types and medical criteria. Coverage typically applies to non-small cell lung cancer and malignant melanoma. It often requires specific PD-L1 expression scores and prior treatment failures.

  • Approved indications: Coverage applies to specific stages of malignant melanoma and non-small cell lung cancer.
  • Administration rules: Drugs must be supplied and administered directly through authorized hospital channels, not pharmacies.
  • Reimbursement barriers: SGK-rejected cases often lead to legal appeals to force coverage for off-label use.
  • Provider requirements: JCI-accredited centers like Anadolu Medical Center typically administer immunotherapy.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Social security has strict limits. But patients can save around 69% compared to US prices by choosing private clinics in Istanbul. Facilities like Anadolu Medical Center or Hisar Hospital bundle immunotherapy with VIP transfers and multi-lingual coordinators. This reduces the logistical burden when navigating complex reimbursement or legal appeals.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize the need to verify specific cancer indications with the hospital billing office. This should be done early on. Those undergoing treatment report high satisfaction with the attentive staff. This is despite common side effects like fatigue or digestive issues.

What factors influence the total price of immunotherapy with Keytruda (Pembrolizumab) in Istanbul?

The total price for Keytruda immunotherapy in Istanbul depends on dosage requirements. Other factors are the number of prescribed cycles and hospital accreditation. Dosing schedules every 3 or 6 weeks directly affect the cost of this biological medication. This is the acquisition price at Joint Commission International-accredited facilities.

  • Medication dosage: Dosing based on weight or fixed 200mg/400mg protocols changes drug acquisition costs.
  • Cycle frequency: Total expense increases with every infusion given every 3 to 6 weeks.
  • Hospital tier: Premium facilities like Anadolu Medical Center charge more for specialized oncology infrastructure.
  • Diagnostic monitoring: Regular PET-CT scans and PD-L1 biomarker testing add significant fees to cycles.

Bookimed Expert Insight: In Istanbul, a major cost difference is the pharmacy markup versus the infusion fee. The drug itself has a regulated base price. However, private clinics may charge much more for the infusion session. They may charge up to 17 times the cost of standard chemotherapy. Patients should ask for quotes that separate the drug cost from the oncology administration fee. This makes the price clear.

Patient Consensus: Patients often worry about digestive side effects and fatigue. However, they find confidence in the attentiveness of Turkish oncologists. Patients often stress one thing. Confirm whether quotes include hospital facility charges or just the medication vials.
