My incisions seperated and bleeding. No adequate assistance offered.and no one turned up. They treated me like I was a nuisance and warned me never to come to the clinic. I was abused verbally by the surgeon. Dr Aykut is arrogant, obnoxious and rude. My nose is hideous, and far worse than before. My nostrils are now to the front of my nose and my columella is massive, and so is my tip. It was the biggest mistake I have ever made. Even when I was bleeding on and off, the surgeon shouted at me and told me not to come to the clinic. The co-ordinator is so bad at communication. I do not recommend this clinic and I am so distressed about my nose. I feel that he butchered my nose. 1st 2 photos after surgery, 3rd photo before surgery at the clinic. Hideous. My nose wasn’t bed before but now it has been butchered with a hanging middle columella and massive nostrils with a bulbous tip. No amount of swelling will ever hide the fact that this is a botched result.
I am too distressed to even consider anything that I liked. It was a horror story
Dr Aykut was awful. His surgery results and his manner was dismissive, rude and arrogant. The excessive bruising was as a result of the surgeons roughness. No photos taken to evidence results. No digital simulation for nose pre-op as promised. My under eyes were excluded from the process, yet No discount offered. The disregard for their patients is shocking.
About Bookimed service
Bookimed failed to assist me in getting the surgeon to attend to me when my liplift seperated. They were not impartial and I felt ganged-up against. No effort or oversight was given to my my medical emergency and I was given the impression that the surgeon would be available for aftercare during my stay in Turkey

FAQ about Lower Eyelid Blepharoplasty in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Lower eyelid blepharoplasty is a safe, minimally invasive procedure with high success rates when performed by specialized surgeons. Primary risks include temporary swelling, dry eyes, or chemosis lasting 3 to 6 months. Serious complications like ectropion are rare, especially with transconjunctival or fat repositioning techniques.

  • Surgeon credentials: Seek European Board of Plastic (EBOPRAS) or ISAPS-certified specialists in Istanbul.
  • Technique safety: Transconjunctival approaches avoid external skin incisions, reducing visible scarring and lid retraction.
  • Recovery timeline: Initial swelling subsides in 3–6 weeks; social activities usually resume after 2 weeks.
  • Clinical volume: Surgeons like Hasan Sahin have completed over 12,000 successful facial rejuvenation procedures.

Bookimed Expert Insight: High-volume centers in Turkey often favor fat preservation over aggressive removal. This prevents the hollowed-out look common in older techniques. Specialist professors like Ahmet Satici use radiofrequency technology to minimize bleeding. This data suggests that choosing a doctor with 1,000+ eyelid cases significantly improves aesthetic safety.

Patient Consensus: Many patients emphasize the importance of following strict elevation and steroid drop protocols. They report that lingering conjunctival swelling is the most common practical challenge during the 6-month recovery phase.

Surgeons perform lower eyelid blepharoplasty using either transconjunctival or subciliary incisions to remove or redistribute fat. In Turkey, specialists like those at Quartz Hospital often use fat-repositioning techniques. This approach smoothens the tear trough area while avoiding a hollowed-out appearance after surgery.

  • Transconjunctival incision: An internal cut leaves no visible scarring on the outer lower eyelid.
  • Subciliary approach: External incisions just below your eyelashes allow for direct skin tightening.
  • Fat repositioning: Surgeons move existing fat into hollow areas instead of removing it entirely.
  • Anesthesia type: Most cases use local anesthesia with sedation for a comfortable, outpatient experience.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Choosing between a specialist hospital or a general plastic surgery center impacts your technique options. For instance, Professor Ahmet Satici at Private Bagcilar Safak Hospital offers rare radiofrequency-assisted blepharoplasty. This method minimizes bleeding and swelling compared to traditional scalpel techniques used in smaller clinics.

Patient Consensus: Patients frequently mention that the first 3 days require constant icing to manage swelling. Most feel confident appearing in public by day 10 when bruising typically fades away.

Ideal candidates for lower eyelid blepharoplasty in Turkey are patients aged 30 to 50 with visible under-eye fat bags and good skin elasticity. You can realistically expect a 70–80% reduction in puffiness and a refreshed appearance that typically lasts 7 to 10 years.

  • Candidate profile: Best for those with fat prolapse without significant hollowing or deep tear troughs.
  • Expected outcome: Results focus on smoothing bags; crow’s feet and fine lines usually remain unchanged.
  • Recovery timeline: Most bruising fades within 2–4 weeks, with final contours appearing at 3 months.
  • Surgical techniques: Options include fat repositioning, radiofrequency-assisted surgery, or traditional skin excision for tailored results.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data from 49,600+ Turkish clinic requests show that high-volume centers like Quartz Hospital provide superior stability by avoiding inpatient stays. Choosing a surgeon with over 20,000 procedures, such as those at Private Bagcilar Safak Hospital, significantly reduces the risk of post-operative asymmetry.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize choosing fat-repositioning over simple fat removal to avoid a hollowed look. Most recommend planning a full 7-day stay to ensure a thorough follow-up before flying home.

Major swelling and bruising after lower eyelid blepharoplasty in Turkey typically subside within 7 to 10 days. Patients usually return to desk work after 8 days while wearing sunglasses. Full surgical results and final tissue settling generally take 3 to 6 months to mature.

  • Initial cooling: Apply ice packs 20 minutes on and off during the first 48 hours.
  • Sleep positioning: Keep your head elevated with 2 pillows to minimize morning swelling and pressure.
  • Medication routine: Use prescribed antibiotic ointment 3 to 4 times daily for 1 to 2 weeks.
  • Activity restrictions: Avoid bending, lifting, makeup, aspirin, and alcohol for at least 2 full weeks.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Choosing the transconjunctival technique can significantly reduce visible scarring and external downtime. At clinics like Private Bagcilar Safak Hospital, surgeons often use radiofrequency tools to further minimize trauma. This approach is a major reason why international patients often feel ready to fly home by day 10.

Patient Consensus: Many patients find the first 72 hours the most challenging for swelling. They emphasize that strictly avoiding bending over is vital to prevent hematomas and ensure a smooth 2-week recovery window.

Lower eyelid blepharoplasty scars are virtually invisible when performed by experienced Turkish surgeons. Transconjunctival techniques involve internal incisions with no external scarring. Transcutaneous methods place fine incisions 1–2 millimeters below the lash line. Most scars fade into natural skin creases within 6 to 12 months.

  • Incision placement: Surgeons hide marks in natural sub-ciliary creases or inside the eyelid.
  • Advanced technology: Radiofrequency-assisted incisions at clinics like Safak Hospital minimize bruising and promote healing.
  • Suture removal: Medical teams typically remove external stitches 5 to 7 days after surgery.
  • Scar maturation: Redness usually fades by 3 months, becoming a nearly invisible white line.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Expert surgeons like Professor Ahmet Satici at Bagcilar Safak Hospital have logged over 20,000 procedures. This high volume often allows clinics to offer complimentary laser touch-ups. These sessions further refine the scar texture if any thickness remains after 3 months. Always confirm if your selected package includes these post-operative laser refinements.

Patient Consensus: Many patients recommend choosing the transconjunctival technique to avoid external marks entirely. Others suggest using high SPF sunscreen on the lower lids for 6 months to prevent hyperpigmentation.

Verify Turkish surgeons hold Turkish Society of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (TPRECD) board certification and European Board of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (EBOPRAS) credentials. Ensure the facility maintains Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation or ISO 9001 certification to guarantee international safety and quality standards.

  • Medical board certification: Confirm active membership in the Turkish Society of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery.
  • International credentials: Prioritize surgeons with European Board (EBOPRAS) or ISAPS memberships for global standards.
  • Facility accreditation: Select clinics with Joint Commission International (JCI) or TÜV NORD ISO 9001 certification.
  • Surgical volume: Seek specialists with at least 500 verified lower blepharoplasty cases for technical precision.
  • Government authorization: Ensure the clinic holds a Ministry of Health certificate for international medical tourism.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Bookimed data shows a correlation between high-volume specialist centers and safety. For example, Dunyagoz Eye Hospital serves 66,000 patients annually with ISO 9001 quality management. Choosing a single-specialty eye hospital or a surgeon like Dr. Hasan Sahin, who has performed 12,000 surgeries, significantly reduces complication risks compared to generalist clinics.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize verifying board claims directly with TPRECD via email before booking. Real-world experiences suggest that choosing JCI-accredited hospitals like Memorial or Hisar Intercontinental provides better protection against post-operative infections and ensures professional nursing care.

Plan a 7 to 10 day stay in Turkey for a lower eyelid blepharoplasty and initial follow-up. While the surgery is an out-patient procedure lasting 1 to 2 hours, staying at least one week ensures safe suture removal and professional monitoring during peak swelling.

  • Surgery timing: Schedule the procedure for day 2 after an initial day 1 consultation.
  • Clinical checks: Attend daily or every-other-day appointments between days 2 and 7 post-op.
  • Suture removal: Plan for stitch removal specifically between days 5 and 7 after surgery.
  • Technique impact: Internal transconjunctival incisions may allow a shorter 5 to 7 day stay.
  • Travel clearance: Obtain final surgical clearance by day 10 to meet airline safety requirements.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Look for packages that bundle several hotel nights, like the 7-night stays offered at Quartz Hospital. This duration is not arbitrary; it matches the critical window for Managing peak swelling and ensures you are still in Istanbul for the mandatory day 7 check-up before flying.

Patient Consensus: Travelers suggest booking flexible return tickets because discharge dates depend on individual healing. Many recommend packing dark sunglasses and saline drops to manage sensitivity during the first week of recovery.
