How Much Does Lower Eyelid Blepharoplasty Cost in Republic of Korea?

Lower eyelid blepharoplasty in the Republic of Korea typically costs from $1,600 to $2,600. The final price depends on the chosen surgical technique, such as fat repositioning or skin excision, and the surgeon's experience level. Patients save around 60% compared to the US, where the average cost is $5,300. These prices generally include the procedure, anesthesia, post-operative medications, and initial follow-up care.

  • Transconjunctival fat repositioning: Often considered a premium technique that helps eliminate bags without external scars.
  • Combined techniques: Procedures involving both fat repositioning and skin removal typically increase the total cost.
  • District variations: Facilities in Seoul districts like Gangnam or Apgujeong may charge approximately 20% more.
  • Specialist premiums: Surgeons with over 20 years of experience often command higher fees for their expertise.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Choosing a clinic in Seoul offers incredible value due to high specialization. For example, HERSHE Plastic Surgery Korea offers packages around $1,850. This includes a specialist with 36 years of experience. Many top-tier clinics are accredited by KOIHA or JCI. They often include specialized deswelling laser treatments. Look for surgeons like Dr. Paik Hye-won, who has 23 years of experience.

The surgeon and staff were excellent throughout
My biggest worry going into this was how visible the scars would be after my lower eyelid correction. Even though I’m still in the early stages of healing, the traditional incision lines are already barely noticeable, which is a huge relief. The surgeon and staff were excellent throughout. Based on the care I received and the initial results, I am very pleased with my choice of clinic. Gia my coordinator was lovely and very helpful. Huge thank you to all the medical, nursing and admin staff. 🙏🙏🙏🫰🫰

The support from the team and the surgeon has been unfailing
My biggest fear was that the result would look unnatural. Fortunately, that’s not the case at all. Even though it’s only been 15 days since the operation, my eyes look natural and smooth when I smile, which is very encouraging for the future. My biggest challenge at the moment is that the bruising isn’t fading as quickly as I’d imagined; patience is key. The support from the team and the surgeon has been unfailing. I really understand now why choosing a good surgeon is so important; it made all the difference to my confidence throughout the process.
The medical staff are very professional. They’re always there to listen to you.

Now two months after surgery, I am quite happy with the shape of my new eyelids
The medical team members are so friendly and helpful. Although I speak zero Korean, I can sense their passion and empathy, which dramatically reduced my anxiety to go through the surgery. They are very supportive from the right beginning to the end when I left Seoul. And big thanks to the assistance from Yena, who provides detailed before and after care instructions rather than just working as an interpreter. Now two months after surgery, I am quite happy with the shape of my new eyelids. They look much younger and alert.

the translator Joanne was excellent and very attentive
t was a great experience, the doctor was good, but could have been more attentive. The staff are a little curt when it comes to customer service, but the translator Joanne was excellent and very attentive, there was also a very friendly older nurse. And there were also free therapeutic treatments that I really liked. Now I need to wait for the results to give a real assessment of whether the treatment was really good.

FAQ about Lower Eyelid Blepharoplasty in Republic of Korea

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What are the different surgical techniques used in lower eyelid blepharoplasty?

Lower eyelid blepharoplasty techniques in Republic of Korea focus on fat repositioning rather than removal to avoid a hollowed appearance. Surgeons primary approaches include the scarless transconjunctival method for under-eye bags and the subciliary approach for addressing significant skin laxity and wrinkles.

  • Transconjunctival approach: Internal incisions leave no visible scars and suit patients with minimal skin excess.
  • Fat repositioning: Shifting fat into tear troughs prevents hollowing and ensures a smooth cheek transition.
  • Subciliary approach: External incisions below lashes address sagging skin and muscle laxity in older patients.
  • Skin pinch hybrid: A 30-minute add-on removes narrow skin strips without disturbing deeper muscle layers.
  • Laser-assisted refinement: CO2 or fractional lasers tighten crepey skin without requiring additional surgical incisions.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Korean clinics like HERSHE show a 94.3% success rate by prioritizing fat repositioning over traditional excision. While US averages reach $5,300, Seoul packages ranging from $3,500 to $5,400 often include advanced skin-pinch techniques that minimize donor-site trauma.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize requesting fat repositioning specifically to maintain natural volume. Most suggest planning a 3–7 day stay in Seoul to manage initial swelling and attend essential follow-up appointments.

Are results from lower eyelid blepharoplasty permanent?

Lower eyelid blepharoplasty results are generally permanent because surgically removed or repositioned orbital fat does not regenerate. While fat transposition techniques in Seoul clinics effectively eliminate under-eye bags for decades, the procedure cannot stop natural aging, skin laxity, or collagen loss over time.

  • Fat repositioning: Surgeons move fat to hollow areas rather than just removing it for longevity.
  • Success rates: HERSHE Plastic Surgery Korea reports a 94.3% success rate for eye rejuvenation surgeries.
  • Long-term benefit: Most patients only require one lower eyelid correction in their entire lifetime.
  • Aging factors: New wrinkles or skin sagging may appear 8 to 10 years post-surgery.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data from top Seoul clinics like JK Plastic Surgery Center highlights that fat transposition holds up significantly better than simple excision. Transitioning from `fat removal` to `fat repositioning` prevents the hollowed-out look that often requires revision surgery a decade later. For the most durable results, look for surgeons like Dr. Kim Joo Bong who specialize in intricate repositioning rather than just cutting tissue away.

Patient Consensus: Patients report that while under-eye bags never return, skin crepiness often reappears around year 8. Many emphasize that starting aggressive sun protection and retinoids immediately after surgery is essential to delay the return of fine lines.

How long is the recovery period after lower eyelid blepharoplasty?

Recovery from lower eyelid blepharoplasty typically requires 7 to 14 days for visible swelling and bruising to subside. While major healing occurs within 2 weeks, internal tissues and final contouring often take 4 to 8 weeks to settle completely.

  • Initial downtime: Most patients return to light work or social activities within 7 days.
  • Suture removal: Surgeons typically remove non-dissolvable stitches between day 5 and day 7 post-op.
  • Activity restrictions: Avoid heavy lifting and strenuous exercise for 3 to 4 weeks.
  • Full results: Residual micro-swelling Cogntive resolves as incision lines fade over 3 to 6 months.

Bookimed Expert Insight: South Korean clinics frequently utilize transconjunctival approaches which significantly accelerate visible recovery. While some centers claim patients are public-ready in 5 days, our data suggests 10 days is more realistic. Leading surgeons like Dr. Kim Joo Bong at HERSHE Plastic Surgery maintain specialized protocols that achieve a 94.3% success rate.

Patient Consensus: Many patients report that swelling peaks on day 3 but warn about chemosis or eye redness. They recommend keeping the head elevated and avoiding salty foods to prevent morning puffiness during the first month.

Will any scars be visible after surgery?

Visible scarring is extremely rare in South Korean clinics due to advanced placement techniques. Surgeons typically use a transconjunctival approach where incisions are hidden inside the lower eyelid, leaving zero external marks. For external surgery, subciliary incisions placed directly beneath the eyelashes usually become imperceptible within 6 to 12 months.

  • Internal approach: Transconjunctival incisions remain completely hidden inside the eyelid with no outer scars.
  • External approach: Subciliary incisions align with the lash line to ensure natural concealment.
  • Recovery timeline: Most surgical scars reach 80% maturation within 1 year for healthy patients.
  • Asian skin care: Surgeons emphasize SPF 50+ to prevent hyperpigmentation, which is common in Asian skin.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Leading Seoul centers like HERSHE Plastic Surgery maintain a 94.3% success rate specifically for blepharoplasty. This high precision is rooted in volume; JK Plastic Surgery alone has performed over 85,000 total procedures. This massive experience allows Korean surgeons to use much finer sutures than the global average, which significantly reduces `ghost lines` and textural irregularities in the delicate under-eye area.

Patient Consensus: While internal incisions leave no marks, those with external stitches should anticipate thin lines that fade to near-invisibility. Most patients confirm that using silicone gel starting at week 4 is vital for the best cosmetic outcome.

What should I expect during the procedure itself?

Lower eyelid blepharoplasty in South Korea typically lasts 45 to 90 minutes under local anesthesia with IV sedation. Surgeons often use a transconjunctival approach, making incisions inside the eyelid to remove or reposition fat without leaving visible external scars or requiring an overnight stay.

  • Anesthesia method: Local injections with IV sedation ensure you remain relaxed and pain-free.
  • Surgical approach: Transconjunctival techniques allow for fat repositioning through internal incisions for scar-free results.
  • Monitoring process: Medical teams track heart rate and oxygen levels throughout the 30–60 minute procedure.
  • Immediate aftercare: Cold compresses are applied instantly to manage mild swelling before same-day discharge.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many global clinics focus primarily on fat removal, leading Seoul centers like HERSHE and JK Plastic Surgery prioritize fat repositioning. This technique fills the `tear trough` hollows using your own tissue. Data from these clinics shows this approach achieves a more natural, youthful contour than simple excision alone.

Patient Consensus: Patients describe the initial numbing injection as a brief sting, followed by a sensation of gentle tugging and pressure. Most remain drowsy but functional, often walking out of the clinic shortly after the final safety checks.

How long should I plan to stay in Korea for lower eyelid blepharoplasty as a medical tourist?

Plan to stay in Republic of Korea for 7 to 10 days for lower eyelid blepharoplasty. This duration covers your pre-operative consultation, the 1-hour surgical procedure, and essential follow-up care. Most surgeons require 5 to 7 days before removing non-dissolvable sutures.

  • Ideal stay: Residents traveling long-haul should consider 14 days for optimal swelling management before flying.
  • Suture removal: Surgeons typically remove stitches between day 5 and day 7 post-operatively in Seoul.
  • Technique variance: Incisional procedures require 10 days, while scarless repositioning may allow 3 to 5 days.
  • Activity timeline: Most patients return to light activities and public appearance within 10 to 12 days.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many clinics like Hivom advertise rapid recovery, our data shows a major distinction in stay requirements between standard blepharoplasty and fat repositioning. Packages at HERSHE Plastic Surgery specifically suggest a 6-day hotel stay for fat repositioning. This aligns with the 94.3% success rate reported by their specialists, emphasizing that the extra 48 hours in-country ensures the delicate fat grafts settle properly before cabin pressure changes during your flight home.

Patient Consensus: Expect significant bruising and swelling to persist until day 10, making high-quality sunglasses essential for public outings. Many patients recommend booking accommodations for at least 14 days to avoid the discomfort of head-elevation restrictions during early international flights.

What does the lower eyelid blepharoplasty procedure in South Korea involve?

Lower eyelid blepharoplasty in South Korea repositions fat through internal incisions to smooth the under-eye area and eliminate bags. Specialists often use the transconjunctival approach. This places incisions inside the eyelid to avoid external scarring. It gives a refreshed, natural appearance without visible marks.

  • Fat repositioning: Replaces simple removal to fill tear troughs and prevent hollow looks.
  • Transconjunctival approach: Internal incisions inside the eyelid mean no visible external scarring.
  • IV sedation: Surgery takes 1 hour under deep sedation for patient comfort.
  • Rapid recovery: Peak swelling subsides after day 3 with visible improvement by day 4.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Clinics like HERSHE Plastic Surgery maintain specialised eye-rejuvenation units where surgeons like Dr Kim Joo Bong have focused on this single area for 30+ years. This hyper-specialisation is why Seoul clinics report success rates as high as 94.3% for blepharoplasty procedures.

Patient Consensus: South Korean surgeons prefer the internal fat repositioning method to create a smooth transition between the eyelid and cheek. Plan to stay in Seoul for all follow-up care. Local laws restrict remote video consultations once you return to Australia.

What does lower eyelid blepharoplasty surgery in Korea involve?

Lower eyelid blepharoplasty surgery in Korea is a specialist anti-ageing procedure. It focuses on fat repositioning and midface harmony. The surgery is performed under IV sedation and takes about one hour. Surgeons address eye bags and tear troughs. They do this through either an internal transconjunctival incision or an external lash-line approach.

  • Incision methods: Transconjunctival incisions inside the eyelid leave no external scars for fat repositioning.
  • Fat repositioning: Surgeons smooth hollow tear troughs by moving excess fat rather than removing it.
  • Muscle tightening: The orbicularis oculi muscle is reinforced to eliminate sagging and support long-term results.
  • Outpatient recovery: Most patients return to their hotel immediately and can explore Seoul by day 4.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Korea’s eye surgery specialists often achieve high success rates. They do this by focusing exclusively on oculoplastic procedures. For example, Dr Kim Joo Bong at HERSHE Plastic Surgery has 30+ years of experience. This contributes to the clinic’s reported 94.3% success rate for blepharoplasty. Choosing a specialist-led clinic over a generalist centre provides more refined fat survival. It also provides natural-looking results.

Patient Consensus: Patients find the Republic of Korea ideal for achieving a refreshed look. They get this without heavy scarring. They often recommend resting for 2–3 days initially. Eye ointment and swelling can temporarily limit vision for sightseeing.

Who is a good candidate for lower eyelid blepharoplasty in South Korea?

Ideal candidates for lower eyelid blepharoplasty in South Korea include those with prominent eye bags. Hollow tear troughs or sagging under-eye skin are also common. Specialists in Seoul often recommend this procedure for those seeking structural rejuvenation. It particularly suits patients with good skin elasticity needing fat repositioning to smooth the midface.

  • Pronounced eye bags: Suited for fat removal or repositioning to eliminate persistent puffiness and shadows.
  • Hollow tear troughs: Ideal for fat repositioning to fill sunken areas and reduce dark circles.
  • Skin elasticity: Patients with resilient skin usually see best results from transconjunctival, scarless techniques.
  • Realistic expectations: Good health and clear goals are vital for achieving natural, long-term outcomes.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Bookimed data shows specialists like Dr. Kim Joo Bong at HERSHE Plastic Surgery Korea bring over 30 years of experience to these procedures. Clinics like AB Plastic Surgery maintain a high specialist-to-patient ratio. This means each patient receives individual attention. This depth of expertise often results in reported success rates exceeding 94% for eye rejuvenation.

Patient Consensus: Patients in South Korea value surgeons who focus on midface harmony rather than just removing fat. Many highlight that bringing reference images helps overcome cultural beauty differences. This helps results look natural and refreshed.

Can lower eyelid blepharoplasty in South Korea be combined with other procedures?

Lower eyelid blepharoplasty in South Korea is frequently combined with other facial surgeries. The aim is to improve facial harmony. Surgeons often perform fat repositioning, fat grafting, or upper eyelid surgery simultaneously. Top Seoul clinics like AB Plastic Surgery and VG Plastic Surgery offer these combinations. They address under-eye hollows and eyelid sagging in one session.

  • Upper blepharoplasty: Corrects hooded or droopy upper eyelids alongside lower lid rejuvenation.
  • Fat repositioning: Moves fat from eye bags to tear troughs for a smooth contour.
  • Micro fat grafting: Fills hollow under-eye areas using the patient's own processed fat cells.
  • Mid-face lifts: Addresses sagging cheeks to complement the refreshed look of the lower eyelids.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Many Seoul centres like AB Plastic Surgery house 30+ specialists for full-face transformations. However, some elite surgeons focus exclusively on eyes. For example, Dr Kim Joo Bong at HERSHE Plastic Surgery has focused on eye rejuvenation for 30+ years. Choosing a specialist-only clinic is ideal for precision. Multi-specialty hospitals are better for combining blepharoplasty with rhinoplasty or facelifts.

Patient Consensus: Australian patients found that combining lower blepharoplasty with fat repositioning in Seoul achieved incredibly natural results. The outcomes compared favourably to local options. Many noted that these combined procedures cost between A$1,500 and A$2,200. This is significantly more affordable than Australian quotes for single surgeries.

What are the key benefits of having lower eyelid blepharoplasty in Korea?

Korea specialises in lower eyelid blepharoplasty with fat repositioning. This technique eliminates under-eye bags through internal incisions. Techniques at Seoul clinics achieve natural results with high success rates and minimal external scarring. Leading clinics include HERSHE Plastic Surgery Korea and JK Plastic Surgery Center.

  • Fat repositioning: Surgeons smooth transitions between eyelids and cheeks instead of just removing fat.
  • Internal incisions: Transconjunctival techniques avoid external scars by accessing fat pockets inside the eyelid.
  • Specialist expertise: Surgeons like Dr Kim Joo Bong have 30+ years of rejuvenation experience.
  • Midface harmony: Procedures often target the tear trough to restore youthful volume without hollowing.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Korean clinics provide a level of specialisation rarely seen elsewhere. Specialists like Dr Yong Woo Kim at Returning Plastic Surgery focus heavily on oculoplastics. This concentration allows surgeons to perform thousands of eye-specific cases. This results in incredibly high success rates—94.3% at top-tier Seoul facilities.

Patient Consensus: Patients from Australia frequently choose Korea for fat repositioning and transfer techniques. These create a seamless, youthful transition between the eye and cheek. Results look natural within two weeks. The presence of English-speaking translators makes the surgical journey through Seoul effortless.

What should I ask my surgeon during a consultation for lower eyelid blepharoplasty in Korea?

Consulting for lower eyelid blepharoplasty in Korea requires asking about fat repositioning techniques, surgeon credentials, and "ghost doctor" prevention. Patients should confirm if the surgeon prioritises transconjunctival or subciliary approaches. Leading Seoul clinics offer procedure costs from $1,600 to $2,600, significantly less than the $6,200 Australian average.

  • Procedure approach: Ask if fat repositioning or skin removal suits their specific skin elasticity.
  • Surgeon verification: Confirm that the consultant is the operating surgeon to avoid "ghost doctor" risks.
  • Fixation technique: Inquire how they reinforce the septum to prevent future fat bulging.
  • Specialist credentials: Verify membership in the Korean Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons (KSPRS).
  • Recovery timeline: Plan for 6 months for final results, though swelling peaks on day 3.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Many Seoul clinics like Hivom offer zero-day hospital stays. Others like HERSHE require a 6-day local hotel stay for monitoring. Dr Kim Joo Bong at HERSHE maintains a 94.3% success rate for blepharoplasty. This suggests that longer post-op observation correlates with high-quality outcomes for international patients.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Korea recommend letting surgeons choose the technique based on anatomy. They advise against following trends. They highlight the importance of viewing photos of other international patients. This helps set realistic expectations for the final look.

Can lower eyelid blepharoplasty be performed at the same time as upper eyelid surgery in Korea?

Surgeons in Korea frequently combine lower and upper eyelid surgery to achieve a balanced, rejuvenated look. They routinely perform these procedures together, often called dual blepharoplasty, to address sagging lids and under-eye bags. One session under local anaesthesia with sedation is typical.

  • Combined scope: Addresses drooping upper lids, ptosis, and under-eye fat bags simultaneously for total rejuvenation.
  • Recovery timeline: Swelling peaks within 72 hours, with stitches usually removed after 5–7 days.
  • Clinical expertise: Centres like HERSHE Plastic Surgery report a 94.3% success rate for blepharoplasty procedures.
  • Specialist focus: Surgeons such as Dr Paik Hye-won specialise exclusively in anti-ageing eye treatments.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Specialists in Seoul often recommend fat repositioning during lower blepharoplasty rather than simple removal. This preserves volume and prevents a hollow look. Clinics like AB Plastic Surgery maintain a higher-than-average ratio of anaesthetists. This is vital for safety during combined surgical sessions.

Patient Consensus: Patients in the Republic of Korea appreciate that surgeons often bundle ptosis correction with eyelid surgery for more functional results. Combining these procedures makes the trip cost-effective. It also delivers a consistent aesthetic outcome across the entire eye area.
