How Much Does Omentectomy Cost in Turkey?

Omentectomy in Turkey typically costs from $4,500 to $8,000. The final price depends on whether the surgery is a standalone procedure or part of a larger oncology plan. Patients save around 85% compared to the US, where the average cost is $42,500. Most Turkish medical packages include pre-operative diagnostics, anesthesia, hospitalization, and airport transfers.

  • Oncology packages: Often bundled with hysterectomy or stomach surgery for complex cancer treatments.
  • Surgical technique: Laparoscopic or robotic-assisted methods may cost 20-30% more than open surgery.
  • Facility tier: Prices in Istanbul clinics often range higher than in cities like Bursa.
  • Hospital stay: Extensive cytoreductive surgery usually requires 7 to 10 nights of inpatient care.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Choosing a Johns Hopkins-affiliated facility like Anadolu Medical Center offers elite-level care for complex cases. While Hisar Hospital Intercontinental provides more budget-friendly options starting around $6,500, Anadolu’s advanced cytoreductive packages typically run about $22,500. This higher price includes specialized oncology diagnostics and longer hospital stays. For gynecologic cases, seeking a professor like Nasuh Utku Dogan ensures expertise in laparoscopic techniques. This can significantly reduce recovery time compared to traditional open surgery.

Good afternoon! I would like to leave a review: I would like to express my sincere gratitude to your company for the impeccable organisation of my examination. Thank Allah that we met him and he did a good surgery
Many thanks to Dr Bora Basharan and Alisher Durdiev! Diagnosis: carcinoma on the tongue. Alisher was very helpful with the choice and full support during the treatment. He gave us confidence in choosing Dr Bora Basharan by telling us about his professionalism and humanity. The most important thing for Alisher was the patient's health and to organise the diagnosis/surgery so that the patient gets the best results. We are very happy about this. We could not decide on the treatment (we were waiting for answers from South Korea) and Alisher did not give up to provide us with doctor's answers, answer our many questions and help with organisation. His ability to speak excellent Russian helped a lot in communication. The first meeting organised by Alisher went well. The doctor explained everything about the surgery and gave us peace of mind due to his experience as a highly specialised ENT surgeon in oncology. The operation went well and the follow up health checks. The recovery is good. We read many positive reviews online about Dr Bor Basharan which gave us more confidence. The reviews are true. After the surgery we were given a room with excellent food and the recovery was good. Thank Allah that we met Alisher and Dr Bora Basharan, for his golden hands, good surgery and organisation. Thank you very much again! Good health to all!

Honestly, I'm in awe from this experience
The hospital was fantastic, room was private, with all required amenities, cafe - lovely, everything was beautiful and clean. Staff were just so accommodating, my Doctor was knowledgeable, explained the procedure in detail. Honestly, I'm in awe from this experience. And even though I was coming in with a slight fear and a tiny panic attack, there was really no need to worry, everything is on a highest level! Thanks to all!
Translators were top notch! Everything was amazing, I can't select just one thing.
Had issue with payment, it kept getting rejected and due to this I wasn't admitted right away. But once payment went through, all services followed smoothly.

But I really liked the Bukimed service - they helped, supported, organised everything in the best possible way
There are certain issues with the hospital, in particular, the staff who are in no hurry and we had to spend the whole day in the hospital instead of a few hours - we waited, waited, and waited again..... But I really liked the Bukimed service - they helped, supported, organised everything in the best possible way. Thank you.
Overall, the hospital is good
Perhaps it's due to a different mentality, but we didn't really like waiting endlessly - no procedure or appointment started on time, no one is in a hurry and no one appreciates other people's time.

They were very friendly, put me at ease and explained what would happen and when. I had checks done and blood taken etc and met the consultant. Dear readers, if anyone wants to be treated abroad, come specifically to Florence Nightingale and find Prof Ahmet-Tunç Ozdemir and you will not go wrong with your choice
I, Temirbek Ormotoev came from Kyrgyzstan, I chose Florence Nightingale Hospital which was helped by bookimed company and the staff of this company liked me, especially I am happy to deal with Professor Ahmet-Tunch Ozdemir. Today is the 3rd day after the operation performed by Prof Ahmet-Tunç Ozdemir. The operation was done wonderfully, I am satisfied and also the hospital conditions and medical staff were top notch, everyone is polite to the patients, especially the head nurse and nurse Linhai were very good at patient care. Why did I choose Florence Nightingale specifically? Because this hospital is one of the advanced hospitals in Turkey and there is a DaVinci robotised system. I have a neoplasm in my kidney over 30 mm. Prof Ahmet-Tunç Ozdemir performed the operation within 1.5 hours and he has golden hands. Dear readers, if anyone wants to be treated abroad, come specifically to Florence Nightingale and find Prof Ahmet-Tunç Ozdemir and you will not go wrong with your choice. I was discharged on the second day after surgery, I feel great and recovery is underway. In terms of the cost of paying for the surgery, compared to other clinics in Turkey, it is realistic and inexpensive. Mr Ahmet-Tunc Ozdemir, my family and I wish you good health, longevity, good luck in everything and that you stay for a long time saving patients from various diseases, Allah help you. I am also grateful to the medical coordinators of bookimed platform, Liana, who from the very beginning until today accompanies and helps with treatment abroad and assistants named Alisher, translator Aigerim, who know their business professionally. Thank you all who helped me with this situation, Allah bless us all.
Liked Prof Ahmet-Tunç Özdemir, service, medical staff, clinic, overall everything is good.

I wholeheartedly recommend them—and the hospital—without hesitation
I can’t thank Professor Sezer Sağlam and our guide Aliçer enough for the incredible care they showed during our visit to Florence Nightingale Hospital. I was very worried about the trip and my mum’s consultation, especially after a previous bad experience at another hospital where we were constantly pushed to upsell unnecessary scans. At Florence Nightingale, there was none of that—everything was professional, honest, and focused on what my mum actually needed. Their kindness, attentiveness, and guidance turned a stressful experience into one where we truly felt cared for. I wholeheartedly recommend them—and the hospital—without hesitation.

FAQ about Omentectomy in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What are the different types of omentectomy?

Omentectomy is the surgical removal of the omentum, a fatty layer covering abdominal organs. Surgeons perform total omentectomy for advanced cancers or partial omentectomy for localized disease. These procedures are essential for staging and treating ovarian, gastric, and other abdominal malignancies.

  • Total omentectomy: Complete removal of the fatty apron, typically used for advanced cancer debulking.
  • Partial omentectomy: Targeted removal of diseased tissue, often used for early-stage staging or biopsies.
  • Anatomical types: Supracolic removal happens near the stomach, while infracolic focus stays below the colon.
  • Surgical approach: Procedures are performed via traditional open laparotomy or minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic-assisted techniques.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many overlook it, the anatomical distinction between supracolic and infracolic omentectomy is a major quality signal. Higher-rated Istanbul clinics like Hisar Hospital Intercontinental often perform supracolic removal during advanced cancer cases to improve metastasis detection. This specialized approach, compared to standard infracolic staging, significantly impacts long-term survival rates in complex oncology transfers.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize the importance of confirming if a procedure includes HIPEC for advanced cancer cases. Many also advise ensuring English-speaking pathologists are available to clarify the rationale for total versus partial removal.

Which hospitals are best for omentectomy in Turkey?

Top hospitals for omentectomy in Turkey include Anadolu Medical Center, Hisar Hospital Intercontinental, and Medical Park Göztepe. These JCI-accredited facilities offer advanced laparoscopic and robotic-assisted surgeries for ovarian, gastrointestinal, and peritoneal cancers. Expert surgeons here often hold international fellowships from institutions like Johns Hopkins or MD Anderson.

  • Anadolu Medical Center: Ranked among world best by Newsweek and affiliated with Johns Hopkins Medicine.
  • Hisar Hospital: Performed 1,000+ laparoscopic procedures with specialists like Dr. Mustafa Solak.
  • Medical Park Göztepe: Turkey first private cancer hospital specializing in multidisciplinary oncology surgery teams.
  • Emsey Hospital: Holds JCI and Temos accreditations, maintaining an A+ class surgical facility level.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Anadolu Medical Center stands out for complex cytoreductive cases due to its OECI accreditation. This specific certification is rare in Turkey. It indicates the hospital meets the highest European standards for integrated cancer research and care. For omentectomy, this ensures a higher precision level in staging and debulking compared to general surgical centers.

Patient Consensus: Patients frequently recommend Acibadem and Memorial Sisli for ovarian cancer debulking. They advise bringing pathology slides from home and budgeting for a 2-week recovery stay in Istanbul.

What is the recovery time after omentectomy?

Recovery after omentectomy typically takes 4 to 8 weeks for basic activities, with full physical restoration requiring up to 3 months. Patients generally stay in the hospital for 5 to 10 days, while laparoscopic techniques significantly accelerate the return to daily routines within 2 to 4 weeks.

  • Hospital stay: Expect 5 to 10 days inpatient until bowel function fully returns.
  • Activity timeline: Resume driving and desk work by week 4 for most patients.
  • Physical restrictions: Avoid heavy lifting and strenuous exercise for 6 to 8 weeks.
  • Surgical approach: Laparoscopic methods reduce recovery by nearly 50% compared to open surgery.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While standard recovery is 8 weeks, clinics like Anadolu Medical Center utilize Johns Hopkins-affiliated protocols that prioritize early mobilization. Data shows starting light walking by day 2 is the most effective way to prevent post-operative clots. Patients choosing specialized oncology centers in Istanbul often see faster discharge times due to these advanced recovery tracks.

Patient Consensus: Many find that fatigue is a bigger hurdle than physical pain during the first month. Walking early and maintaining a high-fiber diet are essential to managing energy levels and digestive comfort.

Does removing the omentum have long-term side effects?

Removing the omentum is generally safe but can lead to long-term risks such as small bowel obstruction and abdominal hernias in 32% of patients. Its absence reduces the body peritoneal defense and can increase the risk of accidental bowel injury during future abdominal surgeries.

  • Bowel obstruction: Omentum removal is an independent risk factor for recurrent intestinal blockages and adhesions.
  • Abdominal hernias: Studies report donor-site hernias in up to 32% of long-term cases following surgery.
  • Surgical complexity: Future surgeons must manage immediate scar tissue or intestines instead of the protective omentum.
  • Immune function: The loss of this fat pad may reduce the body ability to localize infection.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While surgeons often categorize omentectomy as a secondary step in oncology or bariatric procedures, data shows it is a critical metabolic regulator. Patients at centers like Anadolu Medical Center benefit from multidisciplinary teams who monitor insulin sensitivity post-surgery. This is vital because removing the omentum can actually improve glucose levels in patients with obesity, a non-obvious benefit often overshadowed by surgical risks.

Patient Consensus: Many patients report unexpected long-term changes like a reduced tolerance to fatty foods and persistent bloating. There is frequent frustration regarding how the omentum immune and metabolic roles are explained before surgery.

What is the recovery time after an omentectomy?

Full recovery from an omentectomy typically takes 4 to 8 weeks, depending on whether it is a standalone procedure or part of a larger cancer debulking surgery. Minimally invasive laparoscopic approaches often reduce this timeline to 2 to 3 weeks for routine daily activities.

  • Hospital stay: Expect 1–3 days for laparoscopic cases or 5–7 days for open surgery.
  • Activity limits: Avoid lifting over 10 pounds for at least 4 to 6 weeks.
  • Work return: Most patients return to light duties within 2 to 4 weeks post-operation.
  • Dietary transition: Start with liquids, moving to soft foods as bowel functions normalize.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data from top Istanbul clinics like Anadolu Medical Center shows a trend toward combining omentectomy with robotic-assisted hysterectomy. This synergy, often performed by surgeons like Dr. Esra Ozbasli, typically maintains the shorter 3-week recovery window despite the increased complexity. Patients choosing these high-tech centers often move from hospital to hotel within 48 hours.

Patient Consensus: Many survivors note that while physical incisions heal quickly, fatigue and abdominal bloating can persist for 2 to 6 months. Travelers find that having dedicated post-op support in Turkey is essential for managing these long-term energy fluctuations.

Who are the top omentectomy specialists in Turkey?

Top omentectomy specialists in Turkey include Professor Ersin Ozturk, Associate Professor Esra Ozbasli, and Dr. Mustafa Solak. These experts operate in JCI-accredited facilities like Anadolu Medical Center and Hisar Hospital, specializing in advanced laparoscopic and robotic-assisted cancer surgeries for gynecologic and gastrointestinal conditions.

  • Professor Ersin Ozturk: General surgeon at Medicana Bursa, fellowship-trained at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in laparoscopic oncology.
  • Dr. Esra Ozbasli: Specialized in robotic gynecologic surgery with training from New York University and da Vinci certification.
  • Dr. Mustafa Solak: Medical oncologist at Hisar Hospital with specialized training from the MD Anderson Cancer Center.
  • Professor Nasuh Dogan: Expert in laparoscopic debulking procedures and radical hysterectomy for advanced ovarian cancer staging.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data suggests prioritizing specialists at Anadolu Medical Center due to its direct affiliation with Johns Hopkins Medicine. These surgeons frequently perform total omentectomies during complex cytoreductive surgeries. This high-volume environment often results in more precise staging compared to general surgical clinics.

Patient Consensus: Patients recommend requesting a frozen section pathology during the procedure to ensure immediate accuracy. Many report that while waitlists reach 4 months, the savings remain approximately 85% compared to US costs.

Why is omentectomy performed?

Omentectomy is a surgical procedure to remove the omentum, a fatty layer covering abdominal organs. It is primarily performed to treat or stage cancers of the ovaries, stomach, or colon. Surgeons remove this tissue to eliminate visible tumors, prevent cancer spread, or confirm microscopic disease presence.

  • Cancer staging: Surgeons remove tissue to identify microscopic cancer cells and determine precise disease stages.
  • Tumor debulking: Removing the omentum reduces overall tumor load, which significantly improves subsequent chemotherapy effectiveness.
  • Prophylactic removal: Doctors perform preventative removal in early-stage cancers to lower the risk of future recurrence.
  • Symptom management: The procedure helps reduce fluid buildup, known as ascites, in patients with advanced abdominal cancers.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish oncology centers, such as Anadolu Medical Center, often combine omentectomy with Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC). This combination is a powerful strategy because the omentum acts as a filter where cancer cells frequently trap. Removing it while applying heated chemotherapy maximizes the chance of eliminating residual microscopic disease in Stage 3 or 4 cases.

Patient Consensus: Patients often report experiencing temporary bloating and changes in digestion for 4 to 6 weeks. Many emphasize that removing the omentum felt like a necessary step to ensure the best possible response to their primary cancer treatment.

Which hospitals in Turkey offer comprehensive omentectomy services?

Leading Turkish hospitals like Anadolu Medical Center, Hisar Hospital Intercontinental, and Medical Park Göztepe offer comprehensive omentectomy services. These JCI-accredited facilities specialize in cytoreductive surgery for ovarian and gastrointestinal cancers. They utilize multidisciplinary tumor boards and advanced robotic systems to ensure radical tumor debulking.

  • Anadolu Medical Center: Affiliated with Johns Hopkins Medicine, providing robotic-assisted omentectomy and PET-CT staging.
  • Hisar Hospital: Features specialists like Dr. Mustafa Solak for laparoscopic omentectomy in GI cancers.
  • Medical Park: Offers integrated cancer care including omentectomy, lymphadenectomy, and HIPEC for complex cases.
  • Specialized expertise: Surgeons like Assoc. Prof. Esra Özbaşlı provide minimally invasive robotic surgical oncology.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data shows a clear trend where top-tier clinics like Anadolu Medical Center maintain higher success rates by combining omentectomy with IASIOS-certified interventional oncology. While the procedure averages $4,500 to $8,000 in Turkey, choosing a clinic with a dedicated gynecologic oncology unit often includes more comprehensive pathology reviews in the base package.

Patient Consensus: Patients frequently highlight the benefit of receiving full staging and lymph node dissection alongside omentectomy at centers like Acibadem Maslak. Many recommend coordinating your own pathology reports to ensure seamless follow-up care after returning home.

Are there any long-term side effects after omentectomy?

Long-term side effects after omentectomy are generally rare as the omentum is not vital for organ function. Most patients experience few risks, though potential complications include adhesive small bowel obstruction, incisional hernias, or lymphedema. These issues typically stem from abdominal scar tissue rather than the organ removal itself.

  • Bowel obstruction: Scar tissue (adhesions) can cause blockages 2–5 years after surgery.
  • Incisional hernias: Weakened abdominal muscles may allow tissue protrusion 1–10 years post-op.
  • Metabolic shifts: Some patients note weight changes or altered appetite 2 years later.
  • Lymphedema risk: Removing lymph vessels in the omentum can cause persistent leg swelling.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish surgical teams frequently use professional anti-adhesion barriers during omentectomy to minimize long-term bowel obstructions. Data from top-rated Istanbul clinics suggests that combining this procedure with advanced laparoscopic techniques reduces the physical trauma that typically leads to chronic abdominal pain years later.

Patient Consensus: Many patients report feeling perfectly normal 5–10 years post-surgery with only minor scar sensitivity. A few individuals mention needing careful dietary management to handle long-term changes in bowel habits or metabolic shifts.
