Chemotherapy in Germany: Your Travel Plan

Day 1: Arrival in Germany
  • Upon landing in Germany, you should have all necessary documents, including medical records, visa, and identification. Ensure you have a translated version of your medical documents if they are not in German or English.
  • Contact the clinic to confirm your arrival and any pre-arranged transportation to your accommodation or directly to the clinic.
  • Check into your accommodation. Rest and acclimate to the local time zone to be well-rested for upcoming appointments.
Day 2: Initial Consultation and Diagnostics
  • Attend your scheduled consultation at the clinic. You will discuss your medical history and current condition in detail.
  • Undergo any required diagnostic tests to confirm the treatment plan. These may include imaging tests, blood tests, or biopsies. For non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), tests for mutations like EGFR, ALK, ROS1, and BRAF V600E might be conducted to tailor the chemotherapy regimen.
  • If applicable, discuss targeted therapy options based on your tumor's molecular characteristics. Pembrolizumab, Carboplatin, and Paclitaxel are commonly used in certain cases.
  • Ask questions about the treatment plan, potential side effects, and expected outcomes of the chemotherapy regimen.
Day 3: Treatment Planning
  • Attend an oncology consilium. A team of specialists will review your diagnostic results and finalize your treatment plan. This is crucial for a personalized treatment strategy.
  • If recommended, a first-line therapy involving immunotherapy or a combination with chemotherapy might be proposed, especially for cases with high PD-L1 expression levels.
  • Clarify the schedule for chemotherapy cycles. Typically, a regimen might consist of 4-6 cycles, as seen in the Keynote-407 study for certain cancer types.
  • Discuss any necessary lifestyle adjustments or dietary considerations to optimize treatment efficacy and manage side effects.
Day 4: Commencement of Chemotherapy
  • Begin your chemotherapy treatment as per the scheduled plan. This could involve drugs like Etoposid, Carboplatin, and Paclitaxel, depending on your specific diagnosis.
  • Ensure you have a support system in place, such as a family member or friend, to assist you post-treatment, as chemotherapy can be physically taxing.
  • Stay hydrated and follow any specific dietary recommendations provided by your healthcare team to manage side effects effectively.
Day 5-6: Rest and Monitoring
  • Take time to rest and allow your body to recover from the initial chemotherapy session.
  • Monitor for any immediate side effects, such as nausea, fatigue, or changes in appetite. Report these to your healthcare team promptly.
  • Maintain open communication with the clinic. Utilize any available patient support services, such as psycho-oncology or social work, to address emotional or logistical concerns.
Day 7: Follow-up and Adjustment
  • Attend a follow-up appointment to assess your response to the first chemotherapy session. Adjustments to the regimen may be made based on your tolerance and any side effects experienced.
  • Discuss the potential for maintenance therapy post-chemotherapy cycles, such as continuing Pembrolizumab as a monotherapy until disease progression or significant side effects occur.
  • Ensure clarity on the schedule for subsequent chemotherapy sessions and any interim assessments required.
Day 8-14: Continued Treatment and Support
  • Continue with the chemotherapy schedule as outlined in your treatment plan. Attend all scheduled sessions and adhere to any prescribed medications or supportive therapies.
  • Participate in any recommended rehabilitation or supportive care programs, such as physical therapy, to maintain strength and manage treatment-related fatigue.
  • Stay connected with your healthcare team and report any new symptoms or concerns promptly.
Day 15: Preparation for Departure
  • Attend a final consultation to review treatment progress and receive instructions for ongoing care once you return home.
  • Obtain copies of all treatment records, including any imaging or test results, to provide to your healthcare provider back home.
  • Discuss any necessary follow-up appointments or treatments that need to be arranged upon your return.

"I advise everyone here to contact!"
Hello! My dad was diagnosed with a diagnosis in the clinic: adenomatic stomach carcinoma of the 3rd stage. Doctors, nurses and accompanying personnel are qualified professionals, very attentive! All procedures are made as necessary, and not for profit. The only thing that is embarrassing is the menu for people without a stomach. (They gave it hot and fried) Accompanying company takes you from the airport on the day of arrival to the airport on the day of departure. In general, from the time of the first call to today, everyone is happy! I advise everyone here to contact!
