How Much Does Hysterectomy (uterus removal) Cost in Germany?

Hysterectomy in Germany typically costs from $9,300 to $15,200. The final price depends on the surgical technique, the underlying diagnosis such as fibroids or cancer, and the clinic category. In the US, similar procedures cost around $42,500 on average. Patients save around 71% compared to the US. Costs in Germany usually include preoperative diagnostics, the surgical procedure, anesthesia, and a 3-5 day hospital stay.

  • Hysterectomy with DaVinci robot: $25,000 to $35,000 for advanced robotic-assisted surgery.
  • Laparoscopic hysterectomy: $12,000 to $20,000 for minimally invasive keyhole techniques.
  • Diagnosis complexity: Cancer treatments often cost more than benign cases due to extensive pathology.
  • Medical hubs: Primary centers are located in Hamburg, Frankfurt am Main, Solingen, and Bremen.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Choosing a university-affiliated hospital offers high value through access to the latest research. For instance, Medical Center in Solingen and Asklepios Altona Clinic combine academic expertise with robotic technology. Patients often find better value in Hamburg or Solingen clinics. Thank you very much for providing me with all the necessary assistance and support at every stage: choosing a clinic and doctor, accompanying me upon arrival at the clinic and introducing me to Professor Korillos, providing the necessary translations and detailed explanations of all stages of treatment, and answering all my questions both inside and outside the clinic. The hospital is on the level, I felt calm there, I have complete trust in the doctors, you can calmly go for treatment
With the organization of medical services, everything went clearly according to the previous plan. Tatyana, the representative of the company, is very communicative, explains everything, no complaints, even came at 7.30 for the procedure, although there was no translation. I made a slight remark, the price for some services was not announced to me , but in fact it was added... These side effects must also be voiced before the trip...... The hospital is on the level, I felt calm there, I have complete trust in the doctors, you can calmly go for treatment.....

I am writing a review for those people who are in the same difficult situation as our family. Just want to warn, think before you go here. They did not help us ... Moreover, now we understand that they simply did not tell us the truth, promised treatment that everything would be fine and we believed in it, sincerely! They didn’t save on treatment, did everything they recommended, but they just cheerlessly pumped chemistry and prescribed unnecessary consultations like a physiotherapist with charging a hopelessly sick person !!! The company "phoenix" is a soulless creature with the function of receiving money, I don’t even know how to call them anymore ... Doctor Professor Eger also smiled on detours and said that everything would be fine and didn’t even tell the family that the situation was getting worse, she appointed procedures ... As we now understand, everything was clear for a long time, we just wanted to be "treated" because we paid. They tortured our daddy heartlessly and cynically for money !!! Curator Stoyanova stopped responding to letters and the phone immediately, as soon as they informed her that the patient no longer exists. NO ONE! neither she, nor "phoenix", nor the clinic, they even expressed condolences ... It hurts to realize that nothing human is left in people ... We scolded our Russian doctors, and they just told us the truth right away

Not good. The people that I had appointments with did not show up. I met with others who seemed to doubt my records and then claimed that my medical imaging showed no problems whatsoever. I returned home and now seem to have pneumonia in the top of my lungs around the vertebra that are known to have lesions (T1,T2,T3). I consider your service to be a fraud.

"My husband and I are very pleased that we made an appointment with Professor Elka Yeager
My husband and I are very pleased that we made an appointment with Professor Elka Yeager. The examination was carried out on all areas of the body that interest us, and a chemotherapy course was prescribed based on the results of the examination. The first session was held in a hospital clinic. The host company worked very professionally, with great attention to patients. Many thanks to all and best wishes from us!

"I'm very pleased with the treatment
My name is Sergey, I am undergoing treatment at the oncology department of the Nordwest Clinic in Frankfurt am Main. I would like to note the high professional level of doctors, the technical equipment of the clinic at the proper level. I want to express special gratitude to Professor Elka Yeager, senior doctor Kiselichki, Dr. Weber, the highest level of professionalism, are very friendly and attentive, the junior staff are smart, everything is super, I’m very pleased with the treatment, if not for one “but” ... Because of ignorance language had to contact the company "Phoenix Service", which is an intermediary for the provision of medical services, led by Radislav. My communication with them began with the fact that before arrival they demanded a significant prepayment, which was timely transferred to their account. After arriving at the clinic, I had to transfer money several times, rather big money. I persistently asked the company’s employees to conclude an agreement with me on the provision of services by Phoenix Service, in order to specifically understand which services and for what specific payment the services will be provided. However, no contracts, as well as invoices with prices, were provided to me, which directly testifies to dishonesty. Only two months later I received the clinic’s bills (with which I completely agree) and separately a bill from Phoenix Service for the services rendered, after viewing which there were simply no words ... As it turned out, being treated in Germany was not expensive, it was expensive to pay for the services of Phoenix invoiced, which either didn’t turn out at all, or turned out to be in the wrong amount and at very high prices. I tried to talk with the head of the company Radislav, saying that I did not agree with the bill, to which I received the answer "if something does not suit you, you can refuse our services further." I officially wrote an appeal to the clinic about the detachment from this dishonest company, to which I received a positive response. He also wrote an official letter to Phoenix with a request to review the account, to which he still has not received an answer. I want to warn everyone who is in my position, those cancer patients who sell everything in order to pay for treatment and live on, but these “phoenixes” don’t stop at anything to enrich themselves at their expense.

He answered all my initial questions and the ones I've sent after his initial answers in meter of few days
I requested a second opinion for the treatment of prostate cancer for my dad. The cosultation was provided in written by Prof. Dr. med. Sebastian Melchior. He answered all my initial questions and the ones I've sent after his initial answers in meter of few days. This helped us in understanding better the situation and possible options. However due to the fact that most of the answers were of general rather specific nature, in the end we are still not sure what is the better treatment in our case.

"The doctor told us - you came here with a fatal diagnosis, but you came out as a healthy person!" Return: About the Doctor: "We were offered a Park-Klinik Weißensee, Dr
My mother was diagnosed in Russia with a terrible diagnosis - breast cancer stage 4. The doctors' actions were not credible, so we turned to Bookimed for the selection of a clinic and a doctor. We were offered a Park-Klinik Weißensee, Dr. Ursula Makowiec. Mom passed a 3-day examination in the hospital, in a separate ward. Friendly atmosphere, professionalism, respect for the elderly patient - all this allowed us to relax, not to try to control every step of the medical staff, to read the articles on the Internet. I was sure that we made the right choice. And most importantly - the diagnosis was not confirmed! My mother was not breast cancer with metastases, but a sweat cancer in the armpit without any signs of metastases, the prognosis is much more favorable. The doctor told us - you came here with a fatal diagnosis, but you came out as a healthy person! We plan to be observed further in this clinic with this doctor. I would also like to thank the translator Marina Wernke. She was not only an excellent professional, but also a very pleasant conversationalist, we were very comfortable with her. I also want to thank the curators who helped a lot all the time while mom was in the clinic.

Very quick and clear consultation of Bookimed coordinators. For several hours, they helped organize a consultation at the clinic and lure the flight. A transfer from the airport to the city was also organized. In the clinic, with the help of coordinators, a consultation with explanations was successfully held, diagnostics were carried out, and the treatment process started. Very good attitude of doctors.

Everything is clear and reasonable
Immediately I will note not the intrusive and at the same time "essentially" made by Alena presentation of the clinic. And really everything turned out to be as they described to me: the doctor explained how he sees my situation, what kind of opinion of Moscow doctors he agrees with, and what does not and what he proposes to do. Everything is clear and reasonable.

"I advise everyone here to contact!"
Hello! My dad was diagnosed with a diagnosis in the clinic: adenomatic stomach carcinoma of the 3rd stage. Doctors, nurses and accompanying personnel are qualified professionals, very attentive! All procedures are made as necessary, and not for profit. The only thing that is embarrassing is the menu for people without a stomach. (They gave it hot and fried) Accompanying company takes you from the airport on the day of arrival to the airport on the day of departure. In general, from the time of the first call to today, everyone is happy! I advise everyone here to contact!

Our Hysterectomy (uterus removal) Techniques: What Suits You Best?

When considering Hysterectomy (uterus removal), it’s important to understand the different techniques and which is best suited for you. Here’s a concise comparison of popular options:

Laparoscopic Hysterectomy

A laparoscopic hysterectomy is a minimally invasive procedure to remove the uterus using small incisions and a camera.

Pros: Less invasive than open surgery with reduced scarring. Faster recovery time with most patients returning to normal activity in 2-3 weeks. Lower risk of infection due to smaller incisions.
Cons: Not suitable for very large uterine fibroids or extensive pelvic adhesions. Requires specialized surgical skills and equipment.
Effectiveness: 95% success rate in treating conditions like fibroids and endometriosis.
Duration: 1-3 hours.
Recovery: 2-3 weeks.
Best for: Smaller uterine fibroids, endometriosis, and menstrual disorders. Suitable for patients seeking less invasive options.

Myomectomy with Robot Da Vinci

This procedure involves using a robotic system to remove uterine fibroids with precision and minimal invasiveness.

Pros: The robotic system offers enhanced precision and control, leading to less bleeding and quicker recovery. Studies show up to 80% reduction in postoperative pain compared to traditional methods.
Cons: Requires a specialized surgical team and can have a longer setup time. Equipment availability may be limited in some regions.
Effectiveness: 90% success rate in fibroid removal with significant symptom relief.
Duration: 2-4 hours
Recovery: 1-2 weeks
Best for: Women with multiple or large fibroids, or those seeking fertility preservation.

FAQ about Hysterectomy (uterus removal) in Germany

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Is the procedure covered by German health insurance?

Hysterectomy is fully covered by German statutory and private health insurance when deemed medically necessary. Coverage applies to diagnoses like uterine fibroids, endometriosis, adenomyosis, or cancer. While public insurance is cashless, private patients pay upfront for reimbursement based on their specific policy tier.

  • Medical necessity: Covered conditions include chronic pain, severe bleeding, or oncology-related findings.
  • Treatment approaches: Insurance covers open, laparoscopic, and robotic-assisted surgeries including Da Vinci systems.
  • Public insurance (GKV): Operates as a cashless system through direct billing to the provider.
  • Private insurance (PKV): Requires upfront payment and offers perks like private hospital rooms.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While German insurance covers various techniques, specific centers like the Medical Center in Solingen or Nordwest Clinic offer higher specialized expertise with 60,000+ annual patients. Choosing a certified interdisciplinary cancer center ensures that even complex robotic-assisted hysterectomies are processed with standardized documentation for easier insurance approval.

Patient Consensus: Patients find that while coverage for cancer is straightforward, those with chronic pain often need detailed documentation from multiple specialists to secure approval. Securing a willing surgeon is often the primary hurdle for younger patients seeking the procedure for quality-of-life reasons.

What surgical methods are most commonly used in Germany?

Minimally invasive surgery (MIS) and robotic-assisted techniques are the standard surgical methods in Germany. Hospitals prioritize laparoscopic, endoscopic, and Da Vinci robotic systems across urology and gynecology. These approaches ensure smaller incisions, faster recovery periods, and high precision for complex visceral operations.

  • Laparoscopic techniques: Minimally invasive surgery is the default for 98% of gallbladder removals.
  • Robotic systems: Surgeons use the Da Vinci system for precise, tremor-free gynecological procedures.
  • Vaginal approaches: Doctors perform vaginal hysterectomy or vNOTES to avoid any external abdominal scarring.
  • Motion-preserving implants: Neurosurgery centers prioritize artificial disc replacements over traditional spinal fusion methods.

Bookimed Expert Insight: German clinics like Medical Center Solingen leverage their university affiliations to offer rare techniques like vNOTES. This transvaginal endoscopic approach allows surgeons to remove the uterus without visible incisions. Our data shows these specialized centers maintain higher safety ratings while treating over 60,000 patients annually.

Patient Consensus: Patients frequently highlight the technical precision of German surgeons and the cleanliness of facilities. Many express relief at how quickly they could walk after robotic or laparoscopic procedures.

What are the legal guidelines and clinical requirements for a hysterectomy in Germany?

Hysterectomy in Germany requires voluntary informed consent under Paragraphs 223 and 226a of the German Penal Code. Clinical protocols follow S3-Leitlinie standards, prioritizing medical indications like fibroids or endometriosis. Surgeons must promote minimally invasive techniques, including laparoscopic and robotic-assisted methods, at certified German Cancer Society facilities.

  • Legal consent: Patients must receive written documentation of surgical risks and permanent fertility loss.
  • Medical indication: Hysterectomy requires documented failure of conservative treatments like hormonal therapies or IUDs.
  • Surgical hierarchy: Vaginal and laparoscopic routes are primary choices; abdominal incisions remain a last resort.
  • Patient autonomy: Adults aged 18 or older do not require spousal permission for the procedure.

Bookimed Expert Insight: German clinics like Nordwest and Solingen prioritize robotic-assisted systems to reduce hospital stays. Data shows clinics performing 60,000+ yearly treatments often integrate university-level research into standard gynecological care. Selecting a facility certified by the German Cancer Society ensures adherence to the strictest oncological safety protocols.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize that securing a second opinion is vital, as individual doctors vary on surgical approval. Many recommend keeping detailed symptom logs to satisfy clinical requirements for younger patients or those without children.

How long is the hospital stay and overall recovery time?

Hysterectomy in Germany typically requires a hospital stay of 1 to 3 days for minimally invasive procedures. Most patients return to daily activities within 2 to 6 weeks. Full recovery usually takes between 6 and 12 weeks depending on the surgical approach used.

  • Hospital stay: 1 to 3 days for laparoscopic or robotic surgeries like Da Vinci.
  • Activity resumption: Light walking is encouraged within 24 hours to help prevent complications.
  • Work return: Most patients return to desk jobs in 2 to 4 weeks.
  • Full healing: Complete internal recovery takes 6 to 12 weeks for abdominal techniques.

Bookimed Expert Insight: German clinics like Nordwest or Solingen maximize efficiency by using Da Vinci technology. This robotic precision often shortens the typical 3-day stay to just 1 night. Choosing a clinic with German Cancer Society certification ensures standardized post-op recovery protocols that speed up discharge.

Patient Consensus: Patients report that while they could walk the next day, lingering fatigue is the biggest hurdle. Many emphasize that feeling fine externally does not mean internal healing is complete during the first month.
