In addition to being satisfied with the level of professionalism of the medical staff, the equipment and the capabilities of the clinic, I would like to note the comprehensive assistance provided by BOOKIMED manager Anastasia and our coordinator at the clinic, Alexandra, for their support at all times: from arrival, accommodation, translations and explanations, to always being available and helping with all questions - from the necessary route to obtaining all the necessary medical documents
Thank you very much for providing me with all the necessary assistance and support at every stage: choosing a clinic and doctor, accompanying me upon arrival at the clinic and introducing me to Professor Korillos, providing the necessary translations and detailed explanations of all stages of treatment, and answering all my questions both inside and outside the clinic. In addition to being satisfied with the level of professionalism of the medical staff, the equipment and the capabilities of the clinic, I would like to note the comprehensive assistance provided by BOOKIMED manager Anastasia and our coordinator at the clinic, Alexandra, for their support at all times: from arrival, accommodation, translations and explanations, to always being available and helping with all questions - from the necessary route to obtaining all the necessary medical documents.

The hospital is on the level, I felt calm there, I have complete trust in the doctors, you can calmly go for treatment
With the organization of medical services, everything went clearly according to the previous plan. Tatyana, the representative of the company, is very communicative, explains everything, no complaints, even came at 7.30 for the procedure, although there was no translation. I made a slight remark, the price for some services was not announced to me , but in fact it was added... These side effects must also be voiced before the trip...... The hospital is on the level, I felt calm there, I have complete trust in the doctors, you can calmly go for treatment.....

I am writing a review for those people who are in the same difficult situation as our family. Just want to warn, think before you go here. They did not help us ... Moreover, now we understand that they simply did not tell us the truth, promised treatment that everything would be fine and we believed in it, sincerely! They didn’t save on treatment, did everything they recommended, but they just cheerlessly pumped chemistry and prescribed unnecessary consultations like a physiotherapist with charging a hopelessly sick person !!! The company "phoenix" is a soulless creature with the function of receiving money, I don’t even know how to call them anymore ... Doctor Professor Eger also smiled on detours and said that everything would be fine and didn’t even tell the family that the situation was getting worse, she appointed procedures ... As we now understand, everything was clear for a long time, we just wanted to be "treated" because we paid. They tortured our daddy heartlessly and cynically for money !!! Curator Stoyanova stopped responding to letters and the phone immediately, as soon as they informed her that the patient no longer exists. NO ONE! neither she, nor "phoenix", nor the clinic, they even expressed condolences ... It hurts to realize that nothing human is left in people ... We scolded our Russian doctors, and they just told us the truth right away

Not good. The people that I had appointments with did not show up. I met with others who seemed to doubt my records and then claimed that my medical imaging showed no problems whatsoever. I returned home and now seem to have pneumonia in the top of my lungs around the vertebra that are known to have lesions (T1,T2,T3). I consider your service to be a fraud.

My husband and I are very pleased that we made an appointment with Professor Elka Yeager. The examination was carried out on all areas of the body that interest us, and a chemotherapy course was prescribed based on the results of the examination. The first session was held in a hospital clinic. The host company worked very professionally, with great attention to patients. Many thanks to all and best wishes from us!

"I'm very pleased with the treatment
My name is Sergey, I am undergoing treatment at the oncology department of the Nordwest Clinic in Frankfurt am Main. I would like to note the high professional level of doctors, the technical equipment of the clinic at the proper level. I want to express special gratitude to Professor Elka Yeager, senior doctor Kiselichki, Dr. Weber, the highest level of professionalism, are very friendly and attentive, the junior staff are smart, everything is super, I’m very pleased with the treatment, if not for one “but” ... Because of ignorance language had to contact the company "Phoenix Service", which is an intermediary for the provision of medical services, led by Radislav. My communication with them began with the fact that before arrival they demanded a significant prepayment, which was timely transferred to their account. After arriving at the clinic, I had to transfer money several times, rather big money. I persistently asked the company’s employees to conclude an agreement with me on the provision of services by Phoenix Service, in order to specifically understand which services and for what specific payment the services will be provided. However, no contracts, as well as invoices with prices, were provided to me, which directly testifies to dishonesty. Only two months later I received the clinic’s bills (with which I completely agree) and separately a bill from Phoenix Service for the services rendered, after viewing which there were simply no words ... As it turned out, being treated in Germany was not expensive, it was expensive to pay for the services of Phoenix invoiced, which either didn’t turn out at all, or turned out to be in the wrong amount and at very high prices. I tried to talk with the head of the company Radislav, saying that I did not agree with the bill, to which I received the answer "if something does not suit you, you can refuse our services further." I officially wrote an appeal to the clinic about the detachment from this dishonest company, to which I received a positive response. He also wrote an official letter to Phoenix with a request to review the account, to which he still has not received an answer. I want to warn everyone who is in my position, those cancer patients who sell everything in order to pay for treatment and live on, but these “phoenixes” don’t stop at anything to enrich themselves at their expense.

He answered all my initial questions and the ones I've sent after his initial answers in meter of few days
I requested a second opinion for the treatment of prostate cancer for my dad. The cosultation was provided in written by Prof. Dr. med. Sebastian Melchior. He answered all my initial questions and the ones I've sent after his initial answers in meter of few days. This helped us in understanding better the situation and possible options. However due to the fact that most of the answers were of general rather specific nature, in the end we are still not sure what is the better treatment in our case.

So, I’m lіkar, in my menu I’ve got a list of food, I have reproved them for selling and selling them for the price of money. At the moment, the situation is checked. I myself would not have been able to organize a conference call, too, I’m setting an estimate. Dyakoy for the Bookimed project, so this wasn’t so bad. Agony to you - you will master the good

"The doctor told us - you came here with a fatal diagnosis, but you came out as a healthy person!" Return: About the Doctor: "We were offered a Park-Klinik Weißensee, Dr
My mother was diagnosed in Russia with a terrible diagnosis - breast cancer stage 4. The doctors' actions were not credible, so we turned to Bookimed for the selection of a clinic and a doctor. We were offered a Park-Klinik Weißensee, Dr. Ursula Makowiec. Mom passed a 3-day examination in the hospital, in a separate ward. Friendly atmosphere, professionalism, respect for the elderly patient - all this allowed us to relax, not to try to control every step of the medical staff, to read the articles on the Internet. I was sure that we made the right choice. And most importantly - the diagnosis was not confirmed! My mother was not breast cancer with metastases, but a sweat cancer in the armpit without any signs of metastases, the prognosis is much more favorable. The doctor told us - you came here with a fatal diagnosis, but you came out as a healthy person! We plan to be observed further in this clinic with this doctor. I would also like to thank the translator Marina Wernke. She was not only an excellent professional, but also a very pleasant conversationalist, we were very comfortable with her. I also want to thank the curators who helped a lot all the time while mom was in the clinic.

Very quick and clear consultation of Bookimed coordinators. For several hours, they helped organize a consultation at the clinic and lure the flight. A transfer from the airport to the city was also organized. In the clinic, with the help of coordinators, a consultation with explanations was successfully held, diagnostics were carried out, and the treatment process started. Very good attitude of doctors.

Everything is clear and reasonable
Immediately I will note not the intrusive and at the same time "essentially" made by Alena presentation of the clinic. And really everything turned out to be as they described to me: the doctor explained how he sees my situation, what kind of opinion of Moscow doctors he agrees with, and what does not and what he proposes to do. Everything is clear and reasonable.

"I advise everyone here to contact!"
Hello! My dad was diagnosed with a diagnosis in the clinic: adenomatic stomach carcinoma of the 3rd stage. Doctors, nurses and accompanying personnel are qualified professionals, very attentive! All procedures are made as necessary, and not for profit. The only thing that is embarrassing is the menu for people without a stomach. (They gave it hot and fried) Accompanying company takes you from the airport on the day of arrival to the airport on the day of departure. In general, from the time of the first call to today, everyone is happy! I advise everyone here to contact!

FAQ about Removal of part of tumor and nerve of eye in Germany

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Why is only a partial tumor removal (debulking) performed instead of a total removal?

Surgeons perform debulking when total removal risks permanent damage to critical structures like the eye nerve or blood vessels. This partial excision preserves essential functions while reducing tumor mass. It often improves the effectiveness of secondary treatments like radiation or chemotherapy by enhancing blood flow to the remaining cells.

  • Function preservation: Strategic debulking protects vision and eye movement from surgical trauma.
  • Vital proximity: Complete removal is avoided when tumors intertwine with non-resectable nerves.
  • Treatment optimization: Shrinking the mass makes remaining cells more sensitive to systemic therapies.
  • Symptom relief: Removing bulk instantly reduces physical pressure on the orbital cavity.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Germany ranks among the top two global destinations for complex oncology. Clinics like Charité Berlin manage over 800,000 patients annually. This high volume allows surgeons to accurately predict which tumors require debulking versus full removal. Specialized centers often use these partial procedures to bridge the gap toward advanced targeted therapies.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize that leaving part of a tumor is often an intentional, life-quality choice. They recommend specifically asking which anatomical structure prevents a total resection during your consultation.

What happens if a portion of the eye nerve must be removed?

Removing a portion of the optic nerve results in permanent vision loss in that eye because these central nervous system fibers cannot regenerate. This procedure occurs during tumor excision or eye removal to prevent cancer from spreading to the brain or to treat severe trauma.

  • Vision impact: Complete removal breaks the communication link between the retina and the brain.
  • Nerve regeneration: Optic nerve fibers lack the biological ability to heal or regrow once severed.
  • Tumor management: Surgeons prioritize clear margins to ensure total removal of invasive cancer cells.
  • Postoperative adaptation: Patients undergo a transition period to adjust to monocular vision and depth perception.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Germany ranks second globally for complex ocular oncology because centers like Charité Berlin manage over 845,000 cases annually. Data shows patients often choose German university clinics specifically when tumors invade the nerve sheath, as these facilities offer high-density specialist teams that include both ophthalmic surgeons and neuro-oncologists.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize that while vision loss is life-altering, the primary goal shifts toward curative outcomes. Many recommend seeking specialized low-vision support early to manage changes in driving and daily tasks after surgery.

What advanced surgical approaches do German clinics use for orbital tumors?

German clinics treat orbital tumors using vision-preserving, minimally invasive techniques. Specialist teams employ endoscopic endonasal approaches, transorbital neuroendoscopic surgery (TONES), and keyhole craniotomies. These methods prioritize optic nerve preservation and debulking in university facilities like Charite Universitätsmedizin Berlin to minimize surgical trauma.

  • Endoscopic endonasal: Accesses medial or inferior tumors through nasal cavities using bi-nostril techniques.
  • Transorbital neuroendoscopy: Navigates natural corridors around the eye for anterior or retrobulbar tumors.
  • Keyhole craniotomy: Uses small incisions near the eyebrow for complex, deep superior tumors.
  • Intraoperative navigation: Employs real-time tracking to maintain millimeter precision near the optic nerve.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Germany ranks second globally in patient requests for complex cases due to its university hospital structure. Large centers like Charite Berlin handle over 800,000 patients annually. This high volume allows surgeons like Dr. Andreas Schuler to specialize exclusively in intraocular and orbital oncology.

Patient Consensus: Patients prioritize finding multidisciplinary teams that offer eye-sparing surgery. Many recommend asking about partial resection options to protect vision when treating tumors near the optic nerve.

What adjuvant treatments are used if a tumor cannot be fully removed?

When a tumor cannot be fully removed, adjuvant treatments like radiation therapy and chemotherapy destroy remaining cancer cells. In Germany, surgeons often perform maximal safe resection, leaving small remnants intentionally to protect the optic nerve and preserve vision. Follow-up therapies then target these residual tissues.

  • Radiation therapy: High-energy beams target the surgical site to neutralize remaining microscopic cancer cells.
  • Stereotactic radiosurgery: Precise, intense radiation doses treat small tumor remnants while sparing healthy eye tissue.
  • Fractionated radiation: Multiple smaller doses protect delicate structures like the optic nerve during treatment.
  • Systemic chemotherapy: Cytotoxic medications travel through the bloodstream to kill rapidly dividing residual cells.
  • Targeted therapy: Specialized drugs identify and attack specific genetic mutations within the remaining tumor.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data from leading German centers like Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin shows a trend toward multidisciplinary tumor boards. These experts often prioritize nerve preservation over total removal. In ophthalmology cases, surgeons like Dr. Andreas Schuler may intentionally leave a remnant to prevent permanent blindness.

Patient Consensus: Patients often prioritize vision preservation over complete tumor clearance. Many recommend asking for fractionated radiation specifically to protect the optic nerve from damage during the clean-up phase.

Are there post-surgical therapies in Germany to restore damaged vision?

Germany provides advanced non-surgical rehabilitation to optimize damaged vision after eye tumor surgery. Specialized centers utilize neurostimulation and microcurrent therapies to revive dormant cells. While destroyed nerves cannot currently be regenerated, these treatments enhance the brain visual cortex and improve functional visual fields.

  • Alternated current therapy: Weak electrical pulses improve blood flow and nerve signal transmission.
  • Microcurrent rehabilitation: Individualized sessions targeting optic nerve atrophy often last 2 weeks.
  • Visual brain training: Adaptive software exercises retrain how the brain interprets degraded images.
  • Regenerative research: University hospitals like Bonn explore autologous stem cells for tissue repair.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Germany ranks among the top 2 global destinations for ophthalmology due to its university-led clinical trials. Centers like Charite Berlin handle over 800,000 patients annually. This volume creates high expertise in discriminating between permanent nerve loss and treatable compression. Patients often find better success when combining high-tech stimulation with specialized occupational therapy.

Patient Consensus: Success often depends on whether vision loss stems from swelling or direct injury. Patients emphasize that brain adaptation frequently provides more functional improvement than physiological eye healing. Many recommend seeking neuro-ophthalmology referrals for the most accurate prognosis.

Which are the leading hospitals for this procedure in Germany?

Leading German hospitals for eye and nerve tumor removal include Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin and specialized centers like Spreebogen Ophthalmology Clinic. These institutions utilize interdisciplinary teams of ocular oncologists and neurosurgeons to manage complex orbital cases while prioritizing the preservation of visual function.

  • Charité Berlin: Features diverse specialists and German Cancer Society certification for complex oncology care.
  • Specialized expertise: Spreebogen Ophthalmology Clinic focuses specifically on advanced surgical methods for intraocular tumors.
  • Surgeon credentials: Specialists like Dr. Andreas Schuler provide over 15 years of oncology-focused experience.
  • Academic centers: University hospitals in Heidelberg and Munich offer integrated proton therapy and imaging.

Bookimed Expert Insight: For rare orbital tumors, university hospitals offer a distinct advantage over private clinics. Facilities like Charité Berlin manage over 845,000 patients annually. This volume ensures surgeons encounter complex nerve involvements more frequently than general providers. Data shows these tertiary centers facilitate vital coordination between pathology and neurosurgery in one location.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize that preserving vision is the primary concern when tumors affect the optic nerve. Many recommend traveling to major university centers in Berlin or Heidelberg for a second opinion before surgery.
