In the US, similar procedures cost around $1,500 on average. Israel offers savings of around 87%. Main medical hubs include Tel Aviv and Ra'anana.

  • Standard consultation: Often ranges between $75 and $100 per private session.
  • Specialized techniques: Methods like trigger point therapy typically start from approximately $80.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Choosing a large specialized facility offers better value for complex neurological or orthopedic needs. "Israel is a really high level and professionalism of doctors
Hello! Thank you for organizing my mom’s treatment. The host, organizers, are professionals and have done everything possible for quick surgery and meeting with doctors. Denis and his team seem to be working around the clock. Great fellows! Doctors are awesome! Attentive and very caring. And most importantly, knowledgeable. The operation went well and we are very pleased with everything. The room was comfortable. All that is needed. The only thing is Ichilov Center - a state hospital, the attendants did not always provide the services expected from them. But our host always did everything possible to quickly eliminate certain situations. They patronized us constantly. Israel is a really high level and professionalism of doctors. We were very pleased.

FAQ about Physiotherapy in Israel

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Can foreign-trained physiotherapists work in Israel?

Foreign-trained physiotherapists can work in Israel by securing licensure from the Ministry of Health. Applicants must hold a recognized degree from an accredited university, complete at least 960 hours of clinical internship, pass the national licensing exam, and maintain legal residency status.

  • Degree recognition: Credentials must meet Israeli bachelor-level standards from accredited international universities.
  • Clinical internship: Candidates must document 960 hours of supervised practical training for eligibility.
  • Government examination: Passing the mandatory Ministry of Health physiotherapy exam is required for licensure.
  • Health standards: Applicants must provide medical clearance confirming they have no dangerous diseases.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Israeli licensing favors hands-on experience over theoretical study. Ministry of Health data shows online degrees are strictly rejected. If your program lacked specific clinical credits, expect to complete supplemental coursework locally. Centers like Reuth Rehabilitation Center often utilize therapists with specialized certifications in high-tech gait systems.

Patient Consensus: Practitioners highlight that securing citizenship through Aliyah offers significantly more flexible licensing pathways. Many advise exploring physiotherapy assistant roles if full licensure initially stalls due to credit gaps.

What is the difference between Public (Kupat Cholim) and Private Physio in Israel?

Public physiotherapy in Israel operates through HMOs (Kupat Cholim) with subsidized costs, whereas private physiotherapy offers immediate access and longer sessions. Public care requires a medical referral and often involves waitlists, while private clinics provide 1:1 specialized care and advanced rehabilitation technology.

  • Wait times: Public sessions often involve bureaucratic delays up to 6 months.
  • Session duration: Private treatments typically last 45 to 60 minutes for intensive care.
  • Access barrier: English-language therapy generally requires private arrangements outside the public system.
  • Advanced technology: Private centers like Reuth Rehabilitation Center use Exoskeleton ReWalk and Anti-Gravity Treadmills.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Private rehabilitation in Israel often provides better value for complex neurological or orthopedic cases. Centers like Reuth treat over 1,500 patients annually using specialized multisensory Snoezelen therapy. Choosing private care ensures you work with the same specialist every session for consistent progress.

Patient Consensus: Patients value the immediate 48-hour access provided by private insurance like Migdal. Many find public sessions too short and restricted for treating chronic pain effectively.

What are the most common sub-specialties in Israeli physiotherapy?

Israeli physiotherapy is categorized into officially recognized special interest groups led by orthopedics, neurology, and geriatric care. Top clinics like Reuth Rehabilitation Center integrate advanced robotics with these sub-specialties to treat complex musculoskeletal injuries, stroke recovery, and chronic respiratory conditions.

  • Orthopedic rehabilitation: Treats musculoskeletal injuries, post-surgical recovery, and chronic pain management.
  • Neurological rehabilitation: Focuses on stroke, Parkinson’s, and multiple sclerosis using exoskeleton technologies.
  • Respiratory care: Manages chronic mechanical ventilation and lung conditions in specialized departments.
  • Geriatric care: Specializes in maintaining independence and mobility for elderly patient populations.
  • Pediatric rehabilitation: Addresses developmental delays and physical disabilities in children and infants.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Israeli clinics differentiate themselves by pairing sub-specialties with high-tech infrastructure. Reuth Rehabilitation Center utilizes a 360-bed capacity to offer niche services like multisensory Snoezelen rooms and sexology rehabilitation. This clinical scale allows for specialized departments that general hospitals often lack.

Patient Consensus: Patients recommend verifying post-graduate certifications in specific methods like McKenzie or Bobath concepts. Most therapists begin in the public sector before bringing specialized expertise to private practice.
