The journey has been positive so far
For anyone considering this surgery, I wanted to share my initial thoughts. I opted for the malleable (semi-rigid) implant. It's still very early in my recovery, so it's genuinely too early to tell what the final outcome will be, but the journey has been positive so far. The clinic environment was great, and I appreciated the friendly staff, which made a real difference in feeling comfortable. I was also pleased that there were no additional expenses on top of the price we agreed on. The clinic team has stayed in touch with me since the procedure, which is very reassuring. It was a solid experience.

All the staff and doctors were skilled, helpful, and very kind; my experience has been very good
All the staff and doctors were skilled, helpful, and very kind; my experience has been very good. My main concern was finding the right surgeon, and I'm happy with my choice for a deep plane facelift. The procedure addressed my full face and neck, and so far, my recovery is progressing about as expected. The clinic has been supportive, providing a clear aftercare guide and being easy to reach. Just note that my medications were an additional expense of $4000 pesos. My best advice: check reviews.

My experience with the surgeon, staff, and clinic has been very positive
If a friend was considering this, I'd tell them my experience with the surgeon, staff, and clinic has been very positive. At this point in my recovery, everything is feeling about as expected. The clinic team has stayed in touch, and I really appreciated that there were no additional expenses on top of what I initially paid. That was a relief. My main piece of advice would be to prepare well for your consultation. I would suggest asking for more time with the doctor before surgery and to bring pictures of what you’d like done specifically to make sure you're aligned.
I was assisted from beginning to end! Great price with a great and safe experience.

This doctor is AWESOME
My biggest concern going into this was the recovery, especially after combining all four procedures. And it is tough. The diastasis recti repair is still very tender, and my biggest mobility challenge is just getting out of bed. It’s a slow process. That said, I can already see an amazing difference in my waist, and my entire torso, which makes the discomfort feel purposeful. This doctor is AWESOME. The support from the surgeon and the entire team was excellent. My most practical advice for other moms is that consistent help is essential for childcare. You will not be able to manage it alone.
This doctor is EXCELLENT. He’s certified, he’s up to date on all treatments. He is judicious and skilled at not just the Sufi al techniques but the aesthetics of the craft. His personality is calm and kind and his staff is supportive. I have had two procedures with him over these past three months and plan to make him ‘my doctor.’ Love this clinic!
Honestly, not really anything except for maybe a clearer structure of post-op recovery therapies and a liaison service or someone to help schedule them efficiently.

Even with initial swelling, the contouring from my full abdominoplasty and liposuction on my flanks is already so much better than expected
The thing that surprised me most was seeing my new waistline so early in the healing process. Even with initial swelling, the contouring from my full abdominoplasty and liposuction on my flanks is already so much better than expected. Recovery has its challenges. For me, the hardest part is that the drains are annoying, but I know that's temporary and part of the journey. My new belly button is healing nicely, which was a relief. The entire team at the clinic was excellent, from the surgeon to the nursing staff. It’s been a solid process so far.
I had a great experience with Dr. Marroquin and staff.
I was not given correct information about the required duration of my stay after surgery. I was also told I needed to lose a significant amount of weight after I booked the surgery and paid the deposit. I had already arranged my flights and hotel and had to reschedule because there was no possible way to lose that amount of weight in the original time frame.

If a friend asked me about this clinic for eyelid surgery, my answer would be an absolute no. I chose the traditional incision method for both my upper and lower lids, and the process has been concerning. My biggest challenge is dealing with dry eyes constantly, which is a persistent discomfort throughout the day. The incision lines are still quite red, but the aesthetic result is the most upsetting part. When I smile, you can clearly see how one side is different from the other. The lack of care from the surgeon and staff was palpable. I would not recommend this clinic to anyone.
The doctor did not need with me before the surgery to ask anything that I wanted. They did not do a good job on the surgery. I would not go back

The surgeon and staff were supportive throughout
My main concern going into this was how difficult the recovery would be, and it is definitely a process. The surgeon and staff were supportive throughout. For my extended tummy tuck, they created a new position for my belly button, and my abdomen feels very tight now, which is a good sign. While my stomach is already looking flatter, it's still swollen. The biggest challenge by far is just standing up straight. My advice is to make sure your home is prepared for you to heal and recover in comfort. It really helps. Also, measure yourself before purchasing any faja or compression gear, as the sizes differ so much across different sites.
My coordinator, Carlo, was amazing. He was prompt with answers to any questions. Surgeon, Dr Ayala was very personable and friendly. Staff at clinic was nurturing.
Maybe some post recovery snacks would have been nice.

I'm relieved to say my incisions are already well-hidden behind my ears
My biggest worry beforehand was about scarring and the recovery process. I'm relieved to say my incisions are already well-hidden behind my ears. The surgeon performed a deep plane lift, and the result so far is a jawline with noticeable new definition. My neck feels comfortably snug, not painfully tight. The hardest part of recovery has been sleeping elevated, which is to be expected but still challenging. Overall, the process with the clinic and staff was very straightforward. My one tip for others would be to prepare your kitchen in advance: get soft foods and melons, fresh fruits or steam-able vegetables like carrots. You'll want to take small bites at first.
The surgery had to be delayed because I was not feeling well right after arriving at my hotel. I came from outside Mexico for the procedure. We were able to do it a week later, and I stayed extra days for the reschedule. The staff is great and very personable. On the phone I spoke to and messaged the Doctor's personal assistant, and he speaks and writes great English. On the day of surgery, I stayed overnight following the procedure, and my night nurse had her phone set up so we could speak, translating questions, answers, and instructions back and forth. The dinner was beverages, yogurt, freshly made grilled chicken with steamed vegetables, the morning breakfast was eggs, yogurt with melon for breakfast. I stayed in a private room. I saw Dr. Aguilera right after I was prepped for surgery by the anesthesiologist and two nurses, who introduced themselves. Dr. Aguilera met me in the operating room, before I was given the final dose of sleeping medication, and was the first person I saw, still in the operating room, when emerging from anesthesia. The following day, the doctor checked my sutures and gave me some advice about what to do and not to do, the following day. He was satisfied with my recovery, so my head and neck were wrapped up for the Uber ride back to my hotel apartment. We had a stove, microwave, dishes and a full refrigerator in the room where we were staying. This is so convenient for gel packs, fresh foods and juices. I felt extremely comfortable traveling home on a three-hour flight, 10 days after the operation. Based on my experience, Plan fourteen days, giving yourselves an opportunity to settle in will make for a much more gratifying experience. Mexico City is quite easy to travel around, and since it is high altitude, the best way to adjust is to see the city or neighborhood you live in as you prepare for your procedure. I highly recommend Dr. Aguilera; I am healing well, and I am happy with the results.
The internet reception is not good on the sidewalk in front of the building, probably due to the other tall buildings. Just make sure you have made any arrangements for pick-up in the office where the wi-fi is.

I felt like both were done taking exactly what I wanted into account and the overall symmetry at the end for my nostrils was excellent - my nose had been broken and before surgery lack of symmetry was a big issue
I had a really great experience with my doctor and care here. I wanted a very natural looking nose, not to look "doll-like" or like I had a rhinoplasty. Same for lip filler. I felt like both were done taking exactly what I wanted into account and the overall symmetry at the end for my nostrils was excellent - my nose had been broken and before surgery lack of symmetry was a big issue. I believe it required different degrees of cutting for each nostril so I'm very impressed that the end result's symmetry appears less than 1mm different from one another, that's a huge improvement from before. The shape is really nice and I was impressed that after surgery the packing was done in such a way that I was able to breathe through my nose the whole time, even during my recovery.

Hospital fine, clean decent staff Got gynecomastia surgery, emintha into healing moderately okay results, had maybe grade one maybe grade 2 gyno, got glands removed as I was very lean, Surgeon made long incisions, along my chest, have two ling 3 Inch scars on either side of my nipples on both side of my chest Fland wasn't fully removed on my left side so have recurring gyno, Need steriod injection to help with scaring, surgeon isn't competent enough to go through the nipples to leave no scarring, Pictures they send of before and after are a lie, Probably look worse than before cant take my top off after, The response to this was get laser treatment or steriod injections Sub par save your money go somewhere else Probably the same for most procedures they do

Their staff was very accommodating and thoughtful - everyone was super nice and considerate, especially Sara and Maria
First off, I used Aura Wellness Center, instead of Alice Beauty Clinic. And, their staff was very accommodating and thoughtful - everyone was super nice and considerate, especially Sara and Maria. Sara was the best English speaker there and helped me with everything. Maria was kind, warm, and also a great English speaker. They made it less lonely since I had this journey alone. Through Bookimed, I was assisted by Confidence, she was super thoughtful and checked up on me. She made sure I had connections with my medical coordinator and doctor. My coordinator was named Carlos. He was kind, answering all my questions and even texted me after my surgery numerous time to ensure I was recovering and satisfied with my results. My doctor was Dr. Ayala. I can't say much about him since he was in and out of the surgery room. I met him briefly. And, I'm unsure of my results as I am only one month post-op.
The staff at the clinic was accommodating. The coordinator from Bookimed and from the doctor ensured my questions were answered.
Dr. Ayala's brevity and lack of check up after the surgery. I didn't meet him more than 15 (when I was conscious since I was under anesthesia when he operated on me).

Terrible surgeon. Will not take the time to speak with you, when he does he knows limited English and is very very rushed. The first time me he gave me results that were so drastic I looked like a pig or someone from who-ville. I had to pay for a second surgery for him to give me my old nose but even worse! (Again super rushed, had zero time to make a decision). Absolutely awful experience. Scary. He refused to even try to fix my nose now for another 6 months. Even though I offered to pay again. Have to date and see friends humiliated with a half finished face. Go to someone with talent and who actually cares. He doesn’t. You are just a number to the surgeons there.

FAQ about treatment in Mexico

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Is vaginoplasty in Cancún safe?

Vaginoplasty in Cancun is safe when performed by certified surgeons. The certification is from the Mexican Council of Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery (AMCPER). Accredited private hospitals follow international protocols similar to United States standards. They provide anesthesia safety and sterile surgical environments for international patients.

  • Surgeon credentials: Surgeons must maintain AMCPER certification, which requires renewal every 5 years.
  • Facility standards: Top centers carry JCI accreditation or affiliate with the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
  • Experience level: Specialized doctors in Cancun often have more than 30 years of surgical experience.
  • Clinical setting: Safe procedures occur in full-service hospitals rather than small, outpatient cosmetic clinics.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data suggests Cancun stands out because its specialists often hold multiple board certifications. These certifications span general and plastic surgery. For example, some experts hold three distinct medical licenses. This dual-specialty background provides a critical safety net. It helps manage complex pelvic anatomy during reconstructive procedures.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize that choosing a surgeon with documented experience in gender-affirming care is vital. While outcomes are generally positive, patients often recommend not traveling alone. That way, you have support if minor wound separation occurs.

How long should I stay in Cancún for vaginoplasty?

Patients should plan to stay in Cancún for 10 to 14 days for a vaginoplasty. You’ll stay 3 to 6 days in the hospital, then recover at a local hotel. Surgeons need this time to remove packing and make sure patients are safe before flying.

  • Hospital stay: Expect 3 to 6 days in the hospital for monitoring and initial healing.
  • Post-op hotel rest: Allocate 5 to 7 days nearby to recover and handle your immediate physical needs.
  • Medical follow-up: Surgeons remove packing and catheters around day 7 to day 10 post-surgery.
  • Travel safety: Long-distance flights require medical clearance to prevent complications like blood clots or swelling.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Cancún clinics often have surgeons with dual certifications, like Dr. Rafael Velasco Marin. He holds licenses in General Surgery and Plastic Surgery. This dual training is vital for complex procedures like vaginoplasty. It means one specialist handles both your appearance and your internal health.

Patient Consensus: Most patients say that the second week in Cancún is essential for learning dilation techniques. They recommend staying near the clinic to receive hands-on guidance from the surgical team.

How long does the vaginoplasty surgery take?

Vaginoplasty surgery typically takes 2.5 to 5 hours to complete. The duration depends on the specific technique, such as full-depth penile inversion or zero-depth vulvoplasty. Surgeons perform these procedures using general anesthesia or epidural sedation in surgical centers.

  • Surgical duration: Highly experienced teams often complete full-depth cases in 2.5 to 4 hours.
  • Anesthesia options: Patients receive general anesthesia or an epidural combined with light twilight sedation.
  • Access speed: Patients can typically secure surgery dates within 90 days after their initial consultation.
  • Facility standards: Procedures take place in facilities accredited by AMCPER or the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Bookimed Expert Insight: High-volume surgeons in Mexico typically complete these surgeries faster than generalist clinics. Dr. Rafael Velasco Marin in Cancún brings over 30 years of experience to these complex cases. This expertise can reduce operative time without compromising the detailed aesthetic work required for the labia and clitoris.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize confirming whether the quoted time covers the full skin-to-skin procedure or just the canal creation. Experience matters, as efficient surgeons can provide smoother workflows and predictable results for international patients.

What is the recovery time for vaginoplasty in Cancún?

Recovery after vaginoplasty in Cancún takes 6 to 8 weeks for primary healing. Patients usually stay 10 to 14 days in Mexico to make sure they are safe before flying home. In the first 1 to 2 days, you stay in the hospital so board-certified plastic surgeons can monitor your recovery.

  • Hospital stay: Patients usually stay 1 night in the hospital for monitoring and pain management.
  • Activity limits: You can start light walking in the first week, but you should wait at least 7 days before driving.
  • Work return: Most patients resume sedentary desk work after 2 to 3 weeks of recovery.
  • Full activity: You should avoid strenuous exercise and sexual activity for at least 6 weeks.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While basic healing takes 8 weeks, choosing an experienced surgeon like Dr. Rafael Velasco Marin, who has over 30 years of experience, can lead to better long-term outcomes. Sitting is often the hardest part for international patients. Bring a donut pillow for the flight home and use it for several weeks after surgery.

Patient Consensus: Recovery often takes months, not weeks, and it can take up to a year for everything to fully settle. The first 2 weeks are the hardest. You'll need plenty of rest and help.

When can I fly back home after vaginoplasty in Cancún?

Patients should plan to stay in Cancun for at least 14 days after vaginoplasty before flying home. Most surgeons only approve travel after a 2-week post-operative appointment. This visit checks healing, removes sutures, and lowers the risk of deep vein thrombosis during the flight.

  • Travel window: Patients usually find flying 2 to 4 weeks after surgery is the most realistic for safety.
  • Medical monitoring: Stay in Cancun for follow-up visits during weeks 3 and 4 to check healing.
  • DVT prevention: Sitting for long periods raises blood clot risks, so short, direct flights are safest.
  • Physical support: Arrange airport wheelchair assistance, since walking long distances or lifting luggage is restricted.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Cancun clinics often feature surgeons with decades of experience, such as Dr. Rafael Velasco Marin with over 30 years. This level of expertise matters because follow-up care in weeks 3 or 4 often deals with granulation tissue or swelling. Left unmanaged, those issues could complicate a long-haul flight.

Patient Consensus: Travelers recommend booking flexible return tickets since recovery varies. Many also suggest using a doughnut cushion to manage sitting discomfort on the plane.

Can I combine vaginoplasty with another procedure in Cancún?

You can combine vaginoplasty with other surgeries in Cancún to consolidate recovery times. Common additions include labiaplasty, perineoplasty, or body contouring like liposuction. Surgeons at clinics like Panama Plastic Surgery check health markers. This helps keep you safe during longer anesthesia.

  • Common combinations: Functional tightening often pairs with labiaplasty, clitoroplasty, or G-spot augmentation.
  • Body contouring: Patients often add liposuction or tummy tucks to vaginal rejuvenation.
  • Surgeon credentials: Specialists like Dr. Rafael Velasco Marin are members of the Mexican Association of Plastic Reconstructive Surgery.
  • Recovery time: Combined procedures need a 4 to 6 week recovery before flying home safely.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While combining procedures saves on anesthesia fees, it can mean a longer hospital stay. Cancún surgeons with over 30 years of experience recommend keeping add-ons minor. This keeps the focus on genital healing and avoids issues like conflicting movement restrictions or complex drain care.

Patient Consensus: Patients stress that it’s best to focus on the main surgical outcome rather than add too many extras. This makes recovery easier. Practical advice: check if combined procedures change dilation protocols. Also, confirm if they require a longer stay at a recovery house.
