I like how fast and easy it was from the start. The surgical facility was small but worked fine. I did not like the post op care. The night nurse was terrible. Her patients were not a priority. Post op care was not made clear. I would have preferred more detailed instructions on after care. I was left guessing about bandages, sprays, medications and scar treatment. Doctor repaired a hernia, of which I was grateful, but would have preferred to have price list in case this occurred so I could have been prepared financially. I felt like price was just made up. So I don't know if I was overcharged. I liked Mexicali as it was a nice quiet clean town. All in all experience was not bad and the price was affordable.

I felt tricked in my experience. I informed the clinic of my entire medical history several months in advance. However, after i booked flights and hotel and arrived in Tijuana, i was informed that they felt my surgery would be too risky, even though i had passed all their medical exams. On top of all that, they charged me $200 for the tests! I do NOT recommend Gilenis to anybody ever. The Bookimed service was great! The only problem i had was that i was referred to a shady clinic by the Bookimed reps are great about answering questions.

Top destination for abdominoplasty

Mexico ranks 3rd globally for the number of tummy tucks performed—over 71,000 per year. Plastic surgeons here have extensive experience shaping all body types, from standard to plus-size tummy tucks.

Up to 60% savings

In Mexico, tummy tuck surgery costs 50%–60% less than in the U.S. and Canada due to lower overhead costs, favorable exchange rates, and competition between clinics.

All-inclusive tummy tuck Mexico packages

Tummy tuck packages in Mexico cover everything in one price—surgeon and anesthesia fees, hospital stay, medications, post-op care, transfers, and even lymphatic massages.

Quick & easy travel

For US patients, Tijuana is just a 30-minute drive from San Diego. Clinics often provide cross-border transfers.

Direct flights from most US and Canadian cities to Mexico City, Cancun, or Guadalajara take 3–5 hours and can cost less than a domestic ticket. You’ll spend less time flying than driving to a clinic in another state.

Vacation setting

Patients can follow surgery up with a peaceful recovery in resorts like Cancun or Puerto Vallarta. Some clinics even partner with recovery centers offering beachfront views, private nurses, and spa-like care.

Is It Safe to Get a Tummy Tuck in Mexico?

Yes, if you choose a reputable surgeon and clinic. Mexico has board-certified plastic surgeons with 15+ years of experience, many trained in the US and Europe. The best tummy tuck specialists in Mexico are members of:

  • International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS);

Abdominoplasty Surgery in Mexico: Options and Techniques

faq image

Classic techniques

1️⃣ Full tummy tuck. The go-to option for sagging skin, stretched abdominal muscles, and stubborn belly fat.

2️⃣ Mini tummy tuck. Perfect for a small pouch below the navel. Requires a shorter incision and doesn’t involve muscle tightening above the belly button.

3️⃣ Extended tummy tuck. A complete midsection makeover. An extended tummy tuck may involve liposuction to contour the waist, back, and flanks.

4️⃣ Fleur-de-lis tummy tuck. An option for patients who have lost a lot of weight. Involves a vertical and horizontal incision for maximum skin removal and tightening.

Specialized options

1️⃣ Plus-size tummy tuck. A plus-size tummy tuck in Mexico is designed for patients with a BMI over 30. It removes excess skin and fat while prioritizing safety for larger patients.

2️⃣ Male tummy tuck. Tightens the abdominal wall without over-curving the waist. Surgeons can also sculpt visible abs.

3️⃣ Reverse tummy tuck. Ideal for loose skin in the upper abdomen. Instead of pulling the skin downward, it lifts it toward the chest. Often combined with breast augmentation or a breast lift.

Tummy Tuck vs. Similar Plastic Surgery Procedures

A tummy tuck removes sagging skin and tightens muscles, but it’s not a weight-loss procedure. If you aim for fat reduction, loose skin removal, or significant weight loss, you might want to consider other procedures.

Procedure What it does Best for Weight loss
Tummy tuck Removes excess skin, tightens muscles Loose abdominal skin, muscle separation Minimal (2–5 lbs)
Liposuction Removes excess fat from specific areas Stubborn fat pockets Minimal (3–8 lbs)
Panniculectomy Removes large overhanging skin Skin folds after weight loss No
Weight loss surgery (bariatric surgery) Reduces stomach size for weight loss Obesity (BMI 35+) Yes

Can you combine a tummy tuck with a liposuction?

Yes! Lipo plus tummy tuck equals the ultimate body contouring combo. Clinics in Mexico often conduct VASER liposuction of 3 areas + tummy tuck, removing fat with ultrasound technology. This approach is popular for post-pregnancy and weight loss patients who want a defined midsection without excess fat or skin.

Who Is a Good Candidate for a Tummy Tuck?

A tummy tuck is a good option if you:

✔ Have a BMI under 30 (plus-size tummy tucks are available for higher BMIs).

✔ Have been within 10–15 pounds of your ideal body weight for at least 6–12 months.

✔ Have sagging skin after weight loss or pregnancy.

✔ Have a belly bulge from separated abdominal muscles (diastasis recti).

✔ Can’t get rid of stubborn lower belly fat.

✔ Have excess skin after bariatric surgery.

✔ Don’t plan on future pregnancies (they can undo the results).

✔ Are in good health and don’t smoke (or are willing to quit).

What Does the Tummy Tuck Procedure Involve in Mexico?

Preparation

1️⃣ A surgeon assesses health, skin condition, and muscle tone.

2️⃣ Blood tests, ECG, and urine analysis to check for any risks.

3️⃣ Stop anticoagulants 2–3 weeks before tummy tuck surgery; avoid alcohol and smoking for at least 1 month.

4️⃣ Follow a light, low-gas diet for 1 week before surgery.

Tummy tuck procedure steps

In Mexico, tummy tuck surgery takes 2–5 hours

1️⃣ Anesthesia. You’ll be under general anesthesia during the plastic surgery.

2️⃣ Incisions. Surgeons make a horizontal incision above the pubic area (and a second around the navel if needed)

3️⃣ Muscle repair. The surgeon tightens abdominal muscles for a firmer core.

4️⃣ Skin removal. The surgeon trims excess skin and pulls the remaining skin tight.

5️⃣ Belly button repositioning. The belly button is placed into a natural position.

6️⃣ Closure. The medical team stitches the area up and wraps it in a compression garment.

Tummy Tuck Risks & Complications

A tummy tuck is a safe and well-established cosmetic surgery with a 97.9% success rate. However, like with any procedure, there are some risks to be aware of:

  • infection – prevented with strict hygiene protocols and antibiotics;
  • seroma (fluid buildup) – prevented with drains;
  • hematoma (severe bruising) – rare but may require drainage;
  • blood clots – moving and wearing compression garments significantly lowers the risk.

Bookimed can help you get the best tummy tuck in Mexico by connecting you with verified, well-reviewed clinics and specialists.

Tummy tuck packages in Mexico include follow-up care and virtual check-ins, so you won’t be left on your own after surgery. Some clinics offer 6-month warranties for any post-op issues.

Abdominoplasty in Mexico: Results

Your abdomen will look flatter right away, but swelling will take time to go down. By 3–6 months, the final contour should be visible.

🎯 Scarring. Tummy tuck scars can be hidden beneath underwear. By 12 months post-surgery, they turn into thin, light lines.

🎯 Stretch marks. Stretch marks on the lower belly may be removed with excess skin during abdominoplasty, while others may look less noticeable after skin tightening.

🎯 Longevity. The tummy tuck results are permanent, but significant weight fluctuations or pregnancy can stretch the skin and abdominal muscles again.

3️⃣ Currency & payment. Clinics accept USD and MXN. Some only accept cash or wire transfers. It’s best to confirm payment methods in advance, bring cash if needed, and use a credit card with no foreign transaction fees if paying by card.
