I liked only the well-coordinated work of the team of radiologists The rest of the review is negative and if to describe all that I had to experience during the days of examination, what moral, psychological and physiological trauma I received, this report will take 2-3 pages. However, if you want I can send it to you separately. I will definitely write a negative review on the clinic's website!
As I have already written - the team of radiologists, the professional skills of the gastroendoscopy team !
Administrative and coordination work with patients

Firstly, the examination was at 2 pm, the day before the examination they wanted to postpone it to 11 am. I arrived from another country early at 12 pm. I filled out the documents in 30 minutes and sat in the corridor until 5 pm (I didn't eat anything for almost 24 hours). It was agreed to do an ultrasound and gastroscopy with a biopsy. They only did a gastroscopy. No one returned the money for the biopsy. At first they served foreign clients, they told me to wait until the end of the working day. Horrible attitude. I DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!! Ukrainians for sure... they have a different attitude towards foreign guests..)))

FAQ about Resection of gallbladder in Poland

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Is cholecystectomy safe and how experienced are the surgeons in Poland?

Cholecystectomy in Poland is highly safe, featuring a 95% success rate and complication risks below 2%. Polish surgeons maintain exceptional standards through 6-year medical degrees and mandatory residencies. Many clinicians specialize in laparoscopic techniques with over 18–25 years of professional surgical experience.

  • Success rates: Modern Polish clinics report successful outcomes in 95% of gallbladder removal cases.
  • Safety protocols: Major complications occur in under 1% of surgeries at high-volume private facilities.
  • Surgeon expertise: Top specialists often perform over 1,100 laparoscopic procedures during their medical careers.
  • Accreditation standards: Facilities like KCM Clinic hold ISO certifications, ensuring high-quality international safety benchmarks.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While most clinics focus on general surgery, our data shows that specialized bariatric teams, such as those at KCM Clinic, offer superior laparoscopic precision. These surgeons perform thousands of abdominal procedures annually, which significantly lowers the risk of rare bile duct injuries. Choosing a bariatric specialist for a standard gallbladder removal often ensures a much faster 3-day return to work.

Patient Consensus: Patients frequently describe the laparoscopic procedure as quick and painless, often allowing for mobility within 48 hours. Many highlight the exceptional English-speaking staff and meticulous care provided in private facilities compared to public options.

What are the main surgical techniques used for gallbladder removal in Poland?

Surgeons in Poland primarily perform laparoscopic cholecystectomy, the gold standard for gallbladder removal. This minimally invasive approach uses 3 to 4 small incisions. Advanced options include robotic-assisted surgery and single-port laparoscopic surgery (SILS) for improved cosmetic results and precision in complex cases.

  • Laparoscopic surgery: Standard technique using 5–10 mm incisions for camera and tools.
  • Open cholecystectomy: Traditional 10–15 cm incision used for severe inflammation or complications.
  • Robotic-assisted: Systems like da Vinci provide enhanced visualization in specialized centers.
  • Single-port (SILS): Specialized technique performed through one navel incision for minimal scarring.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Patient data shows a notable gender gap in surgical approaches in Poland. Men undergo open surgery more often than women due to late-stage diagnosis. Choosing a surgeon like Dr. Jan Kulawik at KCM Clinic, who specializes in minimally invasive laparoscopic work, can help minimize the risk of conversion to open surgery.

Patient Consensus: Many patients appreciate the fast next-day discharge at private clinics. However, they advise preparing for a potential 2-week recovery if an open surgery conversion occurs due to inflammation.

What are the recognised risks and complications after gallbladder removal?

Gallbladder removal is generally safe, but carries recognized risks like bile duct injury in 1 in 500 cases or bile leaks. Rare complications include internal bleeding, infection, and injury to nearby organs. Some patients develop post-cholecystectomy syndrome, causing persistent abdominal pain or chronic diarrhea.

  • Bile duct injury: Damage to connecting tubes occurs in 0.5% of laparoscopic procedures in Poland.
  • Post-cholecystectomy syndrome: Chronic digestive issues like gas and indigestion affect 10% to 40% of patients.
  • Bile reflux: Continuous bile leakage into the stomach may cause persistent heartburn or chest pain.
  • Short-term adjustments: Temporary nausea, flatulence, or diarrhea often occur during the first few weeks.

Bookimed Expert Insight: High-volume centers like KCM Clinic in Poland focus on minimally invasive laparoscopic techniques to minimize trauma. Data shows surgeons like Dr. Jan Kulawik prioritize these methods for patients with high BMI. This specialization helps reduce the specific risks of wound infections and prolonged anesthesia recovery.

Patient Consensus: Many patients report surprising struggles with dumping syndrome and persistent diarrhea triggered by fatty foods. Monitoring for yellowing skin is vital, as early jaundice can signal a serious bile leak.

How long does it take to recover and return to normal activity?

Recovery after gallbladder resection in Poland typically allows a return to light activities and desk work within 1 to 3 weeks. Full physical restoration including heavy lifting and strenuous exercise requires 4 to 6 weeks to ensure internal incisions heal properly and to avoid hernia risks.

  • Work return: Most desk workers resume duties within 2 to 3 weeks following surgery.
  • Physical restrictions: Avoid lifting over 10 pounds for 4 to 6 weeks after the procedure.
  • Driving timeline: Patients are usually cleared to drive within 3 to 4 weeks once pain-free.
  • Full activity: Gym routines and contact sports typically require 6 to 8 weeks for safety.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Poland's specialization in minimally invasive bariatric and general surgery often leads to shorter initial stays. Data from KCM Clinic shows they manage 700 international patients annually using ISO-certified standards. While surgeons may provide medical clearance at 14 days, the 45-minute proximity to Wrocław airport is vital. Patients should avoid flying too early to prevent complications from post-operative gas and pressure changes.

Patient Consensus: Many find the first 72 hours difficult due to referred shoulder pain from surgical gas. Expect significant fatigue in the third week and plan for extra rest even if medically cleared.

Who is a suitable candidate for minimally invasive gallbladder removal in Poland?

Suitable candidates for minimally invasive gallbladder removal in Poland include patients with symptomatic gallstones, chronic inflammation, or functional biliary disorders. Patients must maintain stable general health to tolerate general anesthesia. Polish specialists often prioritize elective cases for international patients to ensure successful laparoscopic outcomes.

  • Symptomatic conditions: Chronic biliary colic, recurring nausea, or gallbladder polyps require intervention.
  • Anesthesia clearance: Patients with stable comorbidities like hypertension often need specialist cardiac clearance.
  • Surgical history: Minimal prior upper abdominal surgeries reduce the risk of dense adhesions.
  • Body mass: Higher body mass indices are manageable but require case-by-case surgical assessment.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Coordination data shows KCM Clinic handles 700 international patients annually near Wroclaw. Expert surgeons like Jan Kulawik specialize in both bariatrics and laparoscopy. This dual expertise is crucial for patients with higher BMI. They use advanced techniques to minimize conversion to open surgery.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize bringing recent ultrasound scans to the first consultation. Success often depends on clear communication regarding past abdominal surgeries to avoid surprises.

Will there be visible scars after laparoscopic or single-port gallbladder surgery?

Laparoscopic and single-port gallbladder surgery minimize scarring through tiny incisions or navel placement. Laparoscopic surgery leaves three to four small marks. Single-port SILS surgery is considered virtually scarless. Most scars fade into pale, silver-toned lines within twelve to twenty-four months.

  • Incision count: Standard laparoscopy uses three to four incisions for instruments.
  • Navel placement: SILS hides one small 2 cm incision inside the belly button.
  • Size: Small laparoscopic incisions measure between 0.5 cm to 1 cm each.
  • Healing color: Early red or brownish marks typically fade to faint translucent lines.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Polish clinics like KCM Clinic emphasize high-resolution minimally invasive technologies. They serve over 700 international patients annually. Surgeons like Dr. Jan Kulawik combine bariatric precision with general surgery. This dual expertise helps ensure cleaner incisions for better cosmetic outcomes. Patients choose Poland for these advanced techniques at 78% lower costs.

Patient Consensus: Most patients report that tiny laparoscopic scars are easily hidden by underwear. They recommend avoiding sun exposure early on to prevent permanent darkening of the site.

Which Polish cities or hospitals are best rated for gallbladder surgery, and how long should a medical traveller plan to stay?

Warsaw, Krakow, and Jelenia Gora are Polands premier destinations for gallbladder surgery. Patients should plan for a 7 to 10 day stay to ensure safe travel after the procedure. This timeframe includes 1 to 2 nights hospitalized and several recovery days to prevent post-operative seroma.

  • Top clinic: KCM Clinic in Jelenia Gora serves 700 international patients annually with ISO-certified standards.
  • Expert surgeons: Dr. Jan Kulawik at KCM Clinic specializes in laparoscopic techniques and general surgery.
  • Hospital duration: Standard laparoscopic cholecystectomy requires a 24 to 48 hour stay for monitoring.
  • Flight safety: Medical experts recommend waiting at least 6 days post-op to avoid travel-related complications.
  • Follow-up care: Plan for imaging reviews or suture removal guidance roughly 2 to 3 weeks later.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While Warsaw has more JCI-accredited facilities, Jelenia Gora is a strategic choice for specialized care. KCM Clinic performs 2,500 total surgeries yearly and offers tailored international programs. This high volume often translates to smoother coordination for overseas patients compared to public university hospitals.

Patient Consensus: Travelers find that staying at least 5 days post-op prevents issues like swelling or seroma. Many suggest arranging follow-up protocols in writing before leaving Poland to ensure clear aftercare communication.
