The stay at the clinic went well, the surgeon was polite and courteous. Before the operation, additional examinations were made, which raised the expected cost. There is a good hotel not far from the clinic. The coordinator who prepared the documents for discharge forgot to give me a prescription from a doctor. Accordingly, without a prescription, I could not present medicines. I reported my problem to him via WhatsApp, to which I did not receive any help or even a response from him. A week has passed since the operation and I feel fine and without medication, I hope everything stays that way. Everything was good, except for the mistake of the staff who coordinates foreign patients. Thank you. Bookimed service was satisfied. We were able to find a clinic based on my financial capabilities and current location. Thank you very much for your work.
About Bookimed service
I was pleased with the bookimed service. We were able to find a clinic based on my financial capabilities and current location. Thank you very much for your work. The clinic as a whole is not bad, but the coordinator from the clinic made a stupid mistake, which is directly related to the patient’s health, and did nothing.

FAQ about Urethroscopic lithotripsy in Poland

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What is the typical recovery time?

Typical recovery from urethroscopic lithotripsy in Poland allows patients to return to light work within 5 to 7 days. Most individuals resume all daily activities within 2 weeks. Full physical recovery usually occurs by 4 weeks after any stents are removed.

  • Light activities: Return to desk work or walking usually takes 3 to 7 days.
  • Full recovery: Complete tissue healing and strength return generally requires 2 to 4 weeks.
  • Stent removal: Internal stents are typically removed within 1 to 2 weeks post-procedure.
  • Physical exercise: High-impact gym activities or running should be delayed for 3 to 4 weeks.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Poland is a top-7 global destination where clinics like KCM Clinic specialize in minimally invasive surgery. Data shows these centers often facilitate same-day discharge for international patients. This efficiency is why many travel from the UK for faster return-to-work timelines.

Patient Consensus: Expect mild flank pain and blood in urine for 7 to 14 days. Most find that hydration and cranberry juice significantly improve comfort during the first week.

What are the common risks or side effects?

Urethroscopic lithotripsy in Poland is a safe, minimally invasive procedure with very high success rates. Common side effects include temporary burning during urination, mild blood in the urine, and urinary urgency. These typically resolve within 5 to 10 days as the urinary tract heals.

  • Urinary symptoms: Patients often experience dysuria or burning sensations for several days post-operatively.
  • Hematuria: Mild blood in the urine is expected and may persist for 1–2 weeks.
  • Stent discomfort: Internal stents may cause temporary flank pain, frequency, and localized bladder urgency.
  • Infection risk: Clinics like KCM Clinic utilize ISO-standard protocols to minimize urinary tract infections.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Poland attracts over 700 international patients annually to centers like KCM Clinic due to advanced equipment. Data shows that while the procedure is highly effective, around 10% of cases require follow-up imaging. This ensures no residual fragments remain, as one session might not clear very large stones. Always confirm if your package includes this essential follow-up scan.

Patient Consensus: Many patients find the post-operative burning more intense than expected. They highlight that aggressive hydration and completing the full antibiotic course are vital for a smooth recovery.

Will I be awake during the surgery?

Patients undergoing urethroscopic lithotripsy in Poland are typically not awake during the procedure. European Union safety standards generally require full sedation or general anesthesia. This ensures you remain unconscious and pain-free while surgeons use lasers or ultrasound to break down kidney stones.

  • Anesthesia type: Most Polish clinics utilize general anesthesia or deep full sedation.
  • EU standards: Facilities like KCM Clinic follow strict ISO international safety protocols.
  • Post-op recovery: Expect to feel groggy for 1 to 2 hours after waking.
  • Patient monitoring: Specialists track heart rate and brain activity to prevent unintended awareness.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many assume the choice is between awake or asleep, Polish clinics often prioritize general anesthesia because precise laser work requires zero patient movement. With over 700 international patients annually at top centers like KCM Clinic, their anesthesiology teams are highly experienced in managing rapid-recovery sedation that minimizes post-surgical nausea.

Patient Consensus: Most patients prioritize full unconsciousness to avoid pain and anxiety. It is essential to confirm the specific anesthesia plan during your pre-operative consultation to ensure your comfort.

Is the procedure covered by health insurance in Poland?

Urethroscopic lithotripsy is covered by Polands public health insurance (NFZ) for legally employed residents, students, and EU citizens with EHIC cards. Public coverage requires a urologist referral but involves zero out-of-pocket costs. Private patients of clinics like KCM Clinic pay out-of-pocket to bypass long waitlists.

  • Public wait times: Patients typically wait 3 to 6 months for non-urgent NFZ stone removal.
  • Referral requirement: A primary care physician referral is necessary to access public specialist urological care.
  • Private pricing: Private treatment costs $2,000 to $4,000 for immediate access.
  • Inclusion scope: Public insurance covers hospitalization, surgery, diagnostic tests, and medications during the stay.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Poland delivers high-end medical care at significantly lower costs than the US. Your savings for this procedure represent 74% compared to the US average of $11,500. Some clinics offer special international packages. These often bundle premium services like VIP transfers with ISO-certified surgical quality.

Patient Consensus: Patients value the high clinical standards but note that non-urgent scans may require partial payment. Many suggest verifying hospital contracts via the eWUŚ system before scheduling your surgery.

Which clinics in Poland are highly rated for this procedure?

High-rated Polish clinics for urethroscopic lithotripsy include KCM Clinic, Sienna Clinic, and Centrum Medyczne Damiana. These facilities utilize endoscopic laser fragmentation to treat kidney stones. They maintain high standards through ISO certifications and specialized urology departments staffed by board-certified specialists.

  • KCM Clinic: Accredited by ISO, this Jelenia Góra facility attracts 700+ international patients annually.
  • Sienna Clinic: Highly rated medical center in Warsaw specializing in advanced urology and fragmentation.
  • Centrum Medyczne Damiana: Recognized for flawless endoscopic procedures and modern diagnostic imaging in Warsaw.
  • Specialized equipment: Top clinics use holmium lasers for precise stone fragmentation and minimal recovery.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Poland serves as a strategic hub for complex stone procedures due to its infrastructure. While general hospitals are numerous, KCM Clinic stands out by serving patients from five countries. Their high patient volume suggests refined protocols for international arrivals and aftercare coordination.

Patient Consensus: Patients value the EU-standard care delivered at a fraction of Western costs. Many recommend verifying the surgeon's lithotripsy volume and prioritizing clinics with strong English-speaking support.
