"I am very happy for getting to know BOOKIMED, professionals really work there, and most importantly, they are not indifferent people
I have breast cancer and I went through chemotherapy in Moscow. Six sessions have passed. It was very difficult to tolerate these procedures. A doctor in Kazakhstan said that this is enough, it is necessary to switch to tableted chemistry. And Moscow offered to continue doing chemotherapy. Opinions are divided. It was necessary to find a third party. I accidentally found your site on the Internet. Ekaterina Koliko wrote very quickly. The benevolence of Katyusha was immediately arranged towards her. She asked me what I would like to go to. I said that I want to go to the Severance clinic in Korea. Katyusha approved my choice. I sent all the necessary documents and Katyusha quickly redirected everything to the clinic. They began to wait for the invitation. For some reason (and for what I already knew in the clinic), there was no invitation. I am very grateful to Katyusha that she was in touch all the time, supported me, gave me hope. We arrived in Seoul in the morning, we were met by a transfer, brought to the hotel. After lunch, they were already in the clinic, I began to take tests. Constantly with me was one of the translators. Girls translators are great fellows, these are Lida, Olesya, Sofia, Tatyana, Alena. Any question could be addressed, they always prompted. They are professionals. Always with a smile, polite, with enormous patience, and most importantly, they understand that they work with a special audience, with people who did not come to rest. Someone to find out the diagnosis, and someone to do the operation. Thank you so much to the girls. The clinic was impressive. Doctors are professionals. The equipment is super. I got the opinion of a third party, it coincided with the opinion of a doctor from Kazakhstan. I was prescribed a prescription, I bought medicines at the pharmacy and started drinking on arrival home. I also want to write about Darina, who was engaged in transfer (the transfer to the clinic was very convenient and met and carried out), the selection of the hotel was also always in touch, and if I had any questions, she quickly answered them. I want to say that I am very happy for getting to know BOOKIMED, professionals really work there, and most importantly, they are not indifferent people. I am grateful to the Almighty and all who were near me. And the words of the doctor gave me inspiration and inspired great hope, for the sake of these words it was worth a long way to go. Once again, many thanks to all.

My recommendations to friends, acquaintances only this Clinic! The prices are reasonable
Good day! I would like to share my impressions of being in the clinic. Thanks to the coordinators, the staff of the international clinic center, all wishes were taken into account. Special thanks to the attending physician, the procedure was perfect, the staff is very attentive, courteous. They are located in a 5-bed room, but at the same time there is no discomfort, food can be chosen taking into account personal taste preferences (Korean, European cuisine) and at the same time satisfying and varied. I can say one thing, there is no limit to my gratitude, my recommendations to friends, acquaintances only this Clinic! The prices are reasonable.

  • Accredited facilities: Major hospitals hold Newsweek World's Best and Joint Commission International certifications.

Bookimed Expert Insight: South Korea's digital hospital infrastructure allows rapid surgical scheduling, often within one week of arrival. While the Australian average for this surgery is _price_compare_AU_average_, Korean centres offer the same level of care from Price on request to Price on request . This saves patients up to _price_percent_discount_%.

Patient Consensus: South Korean specialists provide comprehensive care by addressing core strength and systemic recovery alongside tumour removal. Patients value the fast access to second opinions and the luxury private recovery suites available in Seoul.

What does the post-surgical care process involve after spinal cord tumour surgery in South Korea?

Post-surgical care in South Korea involves immediate neurological monitoring. It also includes gradual mobilisation starting within 24 hours and intensive rehabilitation. Multi-disciplinary teams at JCI-accredited centres like Severance Hospital or SNUH provide structured therapy. This therapy aids nerve regeneration. Full neurological recovery often requires several months of specialised physiotherapy.

  • Immediate monitoring: Nurses and surgeons at centres like SNUH track neurological status 24/7.
  • Gradual mobilisation: Bed angles rise to 60 degrees by day 2 to protect sutures.

  • Recovery timeline: Soft tissue heals in 6–10 weeks; nerve recovery can take 12+ months.
  • Activity restrictions: Heavy lifting and twisting are restricted for at least 8 weeks.

Bookimed Expert Insight: South Korean neurosurgery centres focus heavily on post-op imaging, with protocol-mandated X-rays and MRIs at 3, 6, and 12 months. Discussing this during initial consultations at clinics like Asan Medical Center helps. It makes sure these critical checks are part of the long-term recovery plan.

Patient Consensus: Recovery in South Korea prioritises core-strength therapy rather than just focusing on the incision site. Patients should bring a companion. They should also wait for formal medical clearance before booking return flights.

What types of spinal cord tumours are typically treated in South Korea?

South Korean neurosurgery departments treat a comprehensive range of primary spinal cord tumours, including intramedullary astrocytomas, ependymomas, and extramedullary meningiomas. Centres use microsurgery and Gamma Knife radiosurgery to manage both benign and malignant cases. They achieve high precision and success rates.

Large centres like Seoul National University Hospital perform 3,800 neurosurgical interventions yearly, meaning teams have handled almost every tumour variant.

Patient Consensus: Hospitals in South Korea require original pathology slides to confirm the exact tumour type. Patients find the care highly tailored and professional, specifically for complex neurosurgical removal procedures.

How do Korean surgeons prepare for spinal cord tumour removal?

Korean neurosurgeons prepare for spinal cord tumour removal using medical CAD software. This software enables virtual simulations and precise excision planning. Detailed diagnostic imaging and multidisciplinary consultations ensure a tailored approach. Often, neurosurgeons and oncologists work together to manage complex cases. They use minimally invasive or endoscopic techniques.

  • Virtual simulation: Surgeons use CAD software to map exact excision paths before entering theatre.
  • Multidisciplinary planning: Teams include neurosurgeons, oncologists, and anaesthetists to coordinate complex tumour removals.
  • Pre-operative assessments: Preparation includes blood work, cancer markers, and proteinograms to evaluate overall health.
  • Navigation technology: Digital hospital systems at Seoul National University Bundang Hospital assist in precise location.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Many Australian patients associate spinal surgery with orthopaedic surgeons. However, Korean protocols strictly assign tumour cases to neurosurgical units. Leading specialists like Dr Sangwon Hwang at Leadheal Hospital have performed over 6,000 spine surgeries. This high surgical volume is paired with South Korea’s digital hospital systems. Together, they allow a high rate of minimally invasive surgery. For certain complex procedures, 90% are handled this way.

Patient Consensus: Surgeons in the Republic of Korea often recommend core strengthening exercises before surgery to improve functional outcomes. Patients appreciate the attentive post-operative care and receive bilingual instructions to help with faster recovery.

Which top hospitals in Korea specialise in spinal cord tumours?

South Korea houses leading neuro-oncology centres like Seoul National University Hospital and Asan Medical Center. These institutions specialise in complex spinal cord tumour removal using intraoperative neurophysiologic monitoring. Patients access advanced technologies including da Vinci robotic systems and Gamma Knife radiosurgery at JCI-accredited facilities.

  • Strategic centres: Seoul National University Hospital performs 3,800+ neurosurgical interventions annually with a 90% success rate.
  • Advanced technology: Asan Medical Center uses da Vinci robotics and PET-CT for precise tumour resections.
  • Clinical excellence: Dr Sangwon Hwang at Leadheal Hospital has performed over 6,000 successful spine surgeries.
  • Specialised care: Severance Hospital pioneers intraoperative MRI for highly accurate spinal cord tumour removal.

Bookimed Expert Insight: University hospitals like SNUH and Asan handle the highest surgical volumes. However, patients often overlook that these centres have dedicated international departments with 24/7 interpreters. Choosing a large Seoul-based university hospital is vital because they prioritise emergency MRI scans for spinal compression cases. Smaller clinics cannot always guarantee this.

Patient Consensus: Major university hospitals in Seoul offer the most advanced equipment for complex neurosurgery. The surgical costs are significantly lower than in Australia. Hospital-provided interpreters make navigating these large facilities much easier.
