How Much Does Metal dental crown Cost in Thailand?

Metal dental crown procedures in Thailand typically cost from $300 / ฿10,200 to $500 / ฿17,000. Prices depend on the specific metal alloy used and the clinic location. Patients save around 73% compared to the US, where costs average $1,500 / ฿51,000. Most Thai dental packages include the initial consultation, X-rays, local anesthesia, and the custom-made crown.

  • Non-precious alloys: These base metal options are the most affordable restorative choice.
  • Noble alloys: Use of palladium or semi-precious metals increases the price slightly.
  • High-noble alloys: Precious metals like gold cost significantly more due to market rates.
  • Regional variations: Major dental hubs include Bangkok, Phuket, and the northern city Chiang Mai.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Choosing a clinic with 30+ years of experience provides significant value. Kitcha Dental Clinic in Chiang Mai serves 10,000 patients annually with ADA-certified expertise. Meanwhile, SmileBox in Bangkok uses ISO-standard materials to ensure high-quality results. Many top-tier Thai clinics offer 1-2 year warranties on crowns. I would like to thank BIDC and also Bookimed for their professionalism
Hello everyone, like many other people before an operation, I wasn't feeling very well. The staff at the clinic immediately reassured and accompanied me. Believe me or not, I didn't feel a thing. The dental surgeon fitted the 2 implants in 40 minutes, and I had no infections whatsoever. My Bookimed advisor (Péguy) was with me from the start and is still with me today. I would like to thank BIDC and also Bookimed for their professionalism. Sylvain B.

The wisdom teeth extraction was done so fast with utmost care
It is a clean hospital and the wisdom teeth extraction was done so fast with utmost care. The dentist and dental personnel can speak fluent English which is important for most people like I. For wisdom teeth extraction the cost was 20000 baht for 4 teeth( including medication and nurse charge), but it all depends if the teeth has impacted. I would highly recommend the clinic.

FAQ about Metal dental crown in Thailand

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What clinical benefits do metal crowns offer over other crown materials?

Metal crowns provide superior durability, lasting 15 to 30 years with high resistance to fracturing. These restorations require minimal tooth reduction, preserving natural enamel and reducing pulp exposure risk. They offer an exceptional fit for molars, withstand intense bite pressure, and minimize wear on opposing teeth.

  • Extreme durability: High resistance to chipping or cracking under intense pressure on back molars.
  • Enamel preservation: Requires only 0.5–1mm of tooth preparation compared to 2mm for ceramic.
  • Dental health: Precise margins prevent bacteria buildup and future decay at the crown edges.
  • Low abrasion: Metal surfaces cause significantly less wear on opposing natural teeth than ceramics.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many choose zirconia for aesthetics, our data shows metal crowns remain the gold standard for long-term value. Clinics like Kitcha Dental Clinic in Thailand, with 40+ years of expertise, often recommend high-noble alloys for patients with bruxism. These materials offer unmatched structural longevity that frequently exceeds 20 years without delamination.

Patient Consensus: Patients report that metal crowns are the most reliable choice for non-visible back teeth. Many appreciate the thinner preparation, which helps avoid the sensitivity often associated with more invasive porcelain procedures.

Are the dental crowns in Thailand of high quality?

High-quality dental crowns in Thailand meet international standards through JCI-accredited facilities and specialist expertise. Leading clinics utilize advanced CAD/CAM systems for precision and source premium materials like Straumann. Patients typically save 73% compared to US costs while receiving care from internationally trained doctors.

  • Accreditation standards: Top clinics maintain ISO 9001 and JCI certifications for safety.
  • Specialist training: Doctors like Dr. Pawak Tungthangthum have advanced training from US universities.
  • Material quality: Providers use certified Straumann materials to ensure long-term crown durability.
  • Advanced technology: Digital 3D imaging and in-house labs allow for precise fitting.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data shows a significant experience gap in Chiang Mai and Bangkok. Clinics like Kitcha Dental Clinic serve 10,000 patients annually with 45-year veterans. This high volume often results in more refined aesthetic outcomes than lower-traffic Western clinics.

Patient Consensus: Patients report that full-metal crowns for back molars often exceed the durability of domestic versions. They advise requesting specific metal composition details to avoid potential nickel allergies in cheaper alloys.

Which types of metal-based dental crowns are available, and when is each recommended?

Metal-based dental crowns in Thailand include high noble alloys, base metal alloys, and porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) options. These are primarily recommended for molars due to their high durability and minimal tooth removal. High noble alloys are best for patients with bruxism or metal sensitivities.

  • High noble alloys: Contain 60% precious metals. Recommended for biocompatibility and protecting opposing teeth from wear.
  • Base metal alloys: Use chrome-cobalt or nickel-chromium. Recommended for maximum strength on a budget for back molars.
  • Porcelain-fused-to-metal: Features a metal shell with porcelain overlay. Recommended for visible teeth requiring both strength and aesthetics.
  • Stainless steel: Prefabricated, non-custom crowns. Recommended for protecting children’s primary teeth or as short-term temporary protection.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While metal crowns are often seen as budget options, Thailand's top clinics like Kitcha Dental Clinic prioritize durability over just cost. Their 45-year history shows that stainless steel or base metals are often used for molars to prevent the frequent porcelain chipping seen in cheaper PFM alternatives.

Patient Consensus: Patients value full metal crowns for their 20-year durability and fast recovery. Many advise confirming alloy specifications like `no nickel` to avoid potential allergic reactions before the procedure.

What types of metal-based crowns are available?

Metal-based dental crowns in Thailand include high-noble gold alloys, palladium-based white gold, and affordable base metal options like cobalt-chrome. These restorations are primarily selected for back molars due to their extreme durability, often lasting over 20 years under heavy biting forces. Patients also choose porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) for a natural appearance.

  • High-noble gold: Contains 60% noble metals like gold and platinum for maximum biocompatibility.
  • White gold: Uses palladium-based alloys to provide high strength with a silver-white finish.
  • Base metal alloys: Uses cobalt-chromium or nickel-chromium, offering the most cost-effective, high-strength solution.
  • Porcelain-fused-to-metal: Combines a metal substructure with a tooth-colored ceramic layer for visible teeth.
  • Stainless steel: Pre-fabricated crowns used for temporary protection or pediatric dentistry in primary teeth.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While base metals are the most affordable, data from top clinics like Kitcha Dental Clinic suggests a shift toward high-noble alloys. These `gold standard` materials cause less wear on opposing natural teeth compared to cheaper base metals. Choosing high-noble options in Thailand remains significantly more affordable than standard restorations in the US.

Patient Consensus: Many patients prefer PFM crowns for the balance of strength and aesthetics, though some warn of a dark line appearing at the gum line over time. Those choosing full gold crowns prioritize the 30-year lifespan over the visible metallic color.

What are the pros and cons of choosing a metal crown?

Metal crowns offer unmatched durability and longevity, often lasting over 20 years on back molars. While they require minimal tooth removal and are gentle on opposing teeth, their metallic appearance makes them unsuitable for front teeth. Patients save around 73% compared to US costs.

  • Superior durability: Metal alloys rarely chip or break under heavy biting pressure.
  • Conservative preparation: Thin metal layers require less natural tooth shaving than ceramic.
  • Wear compatibility: The metal surface wears down at a rate similar to natural enamel.
  • Biocompatibility: High-noble gold alloys cause minimal gum irritation or allergic reactions.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Thailand’s leading clinics like Kitcha Dental Clinic use high-noble alloys to prevent the dark gumline common in cheaper metal-fused crowns. Dr. Kitcha Tungthangthum’s 45 years of experience shows that investing in premium metals reduces long-term revision needs. These materials are significantly more biocompatible than base nickel alloys found in budget options.

Patient Consensus: Patients value the extreme longevity for molars but note that silver or gold colors are highly visible. Many recommend choosing high-gold content to avoid potential metal allergies or gum discoloration over time.

How long does the procedure take?

Metal dental crown installation in Thailand typically requires 30 to 60 minutes for tooth preparation and impressions. A second visit for final cementation takes 10 to 20 minutes. Total clinic time averages 90 to 120 minutes to account for local anesthesia and administrative check-in procedures.

  • Preparation time: Tooth shaping and mold taking require 30 to 60 minutes per crown.
  • Cementation duration: Final fitting and bonding of the metal crown takes 10 to 20 minutes.
  • Treatment visits: Conventional workflows require 2 separate appointments spaced 2 to 7 days apart.
  • Advanced technology: Clinics using CAD/CAM systems may offer same-day crowns in one long session.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While the clinical work is fast, Kitcha Dental Clinic in Chiang Mai serves 10,000 patients annually. High-volume clinics often have streamlined lab turnarounds. This can reduce your wait for the permanent metal crown to just 2 days. This is much faster than the standard week-long wait seen in smaller practices.

Patient Consensus: Plan for a 2-hour window during the first visit to handle paperwork and numbing. Most patients find the second appointment very quick but suggest arriving early to avoid clinical delays.

Where are the best places in Thailand for dental work?

The best places for dental work in Thailand are Bangkok and Chiang Mai. These cities host top-tier clinics like SmileBox Dental and Kitcha Dental Clinic. High-end facilities often hold American Dental Association (ADA) memberships and use original Swiss Straumann materials for restorations and implants.

  • Expert surgeons: Doctors like Kitcha Tungthangthum offer over 45 years of clinical expertise.
  • Bangkok hub: SmileBox Dental serves 1,600 patients annually using state-of-the-art Sukhumvit facilities.
  • Chiang Mai: Kitcha Dental Clinic treats 10,000 patients yearly with ADA-trained specialists.
  • Cost efficiency: Metal crowns cost $300 to $500, saving up to 73% over US averages.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Patient volume data often reveals true clinical quality. While many clinics exist, Kitcha Dental Clinic serves 10,000 patients annually. This high volume suggests a massive level of practical experience. Large teams of 30 doctors ensure specialized care for complex metal crown cases.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize the importance of verifying the specific alloy type before placement. Many recommend performing a thorough bite test in-country to ensure the crown feels perfect before flying home.
