How Much Does Adam's apple surgery Cost in Turkey?

Adam's apple surgery in Turkey typically costs from $2,500 to $4,500. Expenses depend on the chosen surgical technique, clinic accreditation level, and whether the procedure is part of a broader facial feminization plan. In the US, similar procedures cost around $6,300 on average. Patients save around 44% compared to US prices. These costs generally include the surgery, anesthesia, pre-operative tests, and airport transfers.

  • Anesthesia type: Procedures using general anesthesia typically cost more than those performed under local settings.
  • Medical hubs: Primary centers for this surgery include Istanbul, Antalya, and Ankara.
  • Package tiers: VIP packages often add 30-50% for extended stays and luxury hotel accommodations.
  • Facility accreditation: JCI-accredited hospitals may charge a premium for adhering to international safety standards.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Choosing a multidisciplinary hub like Memorial Şişli Hospital provides a distinct value advantage. This facility was the first JCI-accredited hospital in Turkey. It offers access to over 90 specialized departments. While boutique clinics might offer lower entry prices, these major hospitals provide integrated care. This is vital if combining a tracheal shave with other complex maxillofacial procedures.

My surgeon was great; he was honest about what results were realistic for my body and clearly explained all the risks, which gave me confidence
If you're thinking about this, my main piece of advice is to be mentally ready for the procedure, as it can be overwhelming. I’m in early recovery from my breast reduction and lift, and I am feeling better than expected. My surgeon was great; he was honest about what results were realistic for my body and clearly explained all the risks, which gave me confidence. The clinic team was easy to reach and stayed in touch. Do be aware of some additional expenses – I had a prescription that cost extra at the pharmacy. A few practical tips: bring a spare compression garment, cotton t-shirts to wear underneath it, and your own snacks. Also, having my mum with me has been pivotal to my recovery, so I'd suggest bringing a companion if you can.
The co-ordinator at Bookimed, Winnington was brilliant. No matter how many questions I had he was able to answer them promptly and with one small hiccup from the hospital Winnington went out of his way to try and package a new procedure for me. My co-ordinator Eyyub at Optimed hospital was outstanding. The hospital was great, the staff on my floor were fantastic. We used goggle translate when the co-ordinator wasn’t with us if we came up against a language barrier but that was not very often. I was cared for before and after my surgery by the nursing staff who could not do enough for myself and my mum. I 10000000% recommend Bookimed & Optimed hospital
Post op instructions could be better. I have suggested to them to put together a general guide of what to do and not to do and for however long. What’s normal and if something doesn’t feel right who to contact etc. I think this will greatly help international patients and help the hospital co-ordinators from being hounded with a load of questions from several patients all at once. Peace of mind for the patient and a little more support for the co-ordinator. The food is catered for Turkish patients and can be hard for international patients to eat. Again, I have suggested to them to try having a small box of fibrous cereal available at breakfast time and instead of a full meal at lunch time something simple like sandwiches or rolls/bagels/baked goods. Dinner was usually ok and we were able to eat most of that but our daytime diet is a little less than they were providing and there was a lot of food waste which they could minimise & use the money elsewhere if there was a cater to international patients diets.

The single positive aspect of this entire process was the staff. They were wonderful. Unfortunately, my experience with the surgeon and the clinic itself was profoundly disappointing, and I'm very concerned with how my otoplasty recovery is going so far. The gap between the supportive staff and the actual medical treatment I received is hard to understand. The facility did not meet my expectations for a medical setting in any capacity. Based on this, I would absolutely not recommend this clinic to anyone considering a similar procedure.
Do not go with bookimed.com. I didn’t liked from the moment when I arrived to airport anyone wasn’t there to pick me up, you know when you arrive any place you have no internet and you can’t make any phone calls or text so night mares already start.

I felt in such safe hands throughout and would recommend my surgeon Dr Yunus Emre Seker and his team to anyone
I loved the coordinator / interpreter. Totally made me feel at ease and comfortable in what I would only describe as an anxious situation especially with the language barrier and the unknown of where you are going. The surgeon himself was wonderful and even had a coffee with me before hand which made me feel completely at ease. I felt in such safe hands throughout and would recommend my surgeon Dr Yunus Emre Seker and his team to anyone. Thank-you so much :)

The surgeon and the clinic itself were excellent
The possibility of breathing issues was my primary concern going into this. And honestly, that has been the biggest challenge in recovery so far, with one nostril constantly feeling stuffed. My surgeon performed a closed rhinoplasty. Everything is still very swollen along the bridge, but I can already see that my nose tip appears more refined, which is a great sign. The surgeon and the clinic itself were excellent. The general staff were great, though post-op instructions could have been a bit more explicit. I'm satisfied with the medical care I received so far
Dr. Erol is an amazing doctor, his work was amazing he truly listened to my request and expectations and he was really patient and reassuring. The medical assistance team as well, they really took good care of me, they were present when i needed them.
post-op instructions could’ve been explained better

The lift in my jowls is already a dramatic improvement
My biggest worry was how the final result would look, and whether it would be worth the recovery. Even though I’m still quite puffy around my jawline, the lift in my jowls is already a dramatic improvement. That part is a huge relief. The staff and clinic environment were excellent from start to finish. Turning my head feels slightly tight but okay. The surgeon did good work, though I rated them a 4/5 as I felt some communication could have been a bit more compassionate after surgery. The most challenging part has absolutely been sleeping elevated. That's no fun. I would still recommend this clinic.
The Bookined coordinator and the Quartz Clinic staff were fantastic: supportive, helpful, compassionate. All updates were communicated to me promptly. The hotel booked for me is really excellent, with smooth transfers and kind drivers. Spot on!
I didn't give the doctor 5 stars because she made me cry the day after surgery. She could adopt a different approach towards me after surgery, with more understanding and compassion, especially since I was there on my own and at the end of the day, she's received all the information required, it doesn't matter from whom. The stress has a significant impact on me. Aside from that, she was great.

The moment I saw the result, even with the initial swelling, I could tell the shape was exactly what I wanted
The moment I saw the result, even with the initial swelling, I could tell the shape was exactly what I wanted. It’s a great feeling. My goal was a more defined tip, and that's precisely what the surgeon delivered using an open approach. The whole process was smooth, and the staff were genuinely caring. The most difficult part of recovery so far is just having to sleep upright, which is temporary. A huge bonus is that I am breathing perfectly through my nose already. I am so grateful for the surgeon's skill and the clear communication from the team.

the care provided by the surgeon and all the staff was impeccable
If you’re thinking about arm liposuction, I’d advise you to prepare for the recovery. My surgeon used the VASER ultrasound technique and, although it’s still early days, my compression sleeves are already too loose. My mobility is limited; my biggest difficulty right now is reaching for things above my head. It’s also important to be patient with the results, because when I look in the mirror today, I can see that one arm looks different from the other, and I’m confident that will even out over time. Despite these minor aspects of the process, the care provided by the surgeon and all the staff was impeccable. I would recommend the clinic.

The surgeon and staff were brilliant and supportive throughout
My biggest worry was ending up with an unnatural shape, but the surgeon’s approach and clear communication completely put me at ease. Right now, things still look a little patchy as about half the transplanted hairs have fallen out, which I was told to expect during this early stage of healing. It’s a process. The biggest challenge has honestly been a personal one: just remembering to avoid touching them! The surgeon and staff were brilliant and supportive throughout. While the clinic facilities were fine, the personal care from the team made all the difference. I'm very satisfied with my choice.

The surgeon did an excellent job – the incisions were made using the traditional method and are now hidden in the natural folds of the skin
I was worried that the scars from the upper and lower eyelid surgery would be noticeable. Fortunately, the surgeon did an excellent job – the incisions were made using the traditional method and are now hidden in the natural folds of the skin. I have no complaints about him whatsoever. However, the overall impression was greatly marred by the clinic itself, where the conditions were unsatisfactory. Recovery is still ongoing. My eyes are still swollen, and I’ve noticed that when I smile, one side looks slightly different. I hope this will pass. The main advice I would give to anyone considering this procedure is to prepare thoroughly for the period before and after the operation.

I now feel better than I expected
What I remember most about the whole process was the doctor’s approach. Before the operation, he personally marked the incision lines on my upper eyelids and honestly explained what I could realistically expect from the result. The procedure was carried out under general anaesthetic, and I now feel better than I expected. It was a great help that the doctor personally checked on me after the operation, and the clinic provided clear aftercare instructions. There were no additional costs. The only advice I would give to future patients is to make sure you confirm the exact date and time of the operation in advance.

We will be going back for other treatment and truly can’t recommend them enough
Sitting in the clinic in Antalya, the surgeon explained how the laser-assisted technique for my upper eyelids would function during the procedure. The whole service was smooth and we had a fantastic time throughout our stay. The aftercare was good. I was thrilled with how my eyes looked at 12 days, although at day 15 my biggest challenge is that they are still puffy. My eyes look natural and smooth when I smile. It is a process. We will be going back for other treatment and truly can’t recommend them enough. If you are considering eyelid surgery, ensure you have a few weeks to let the initial swelling settle.

I breath perfectly now after surgery and my nose is a lot straighter
I felt very secure and taken care of through the entire experience. All of my inquiries were answered very promptly by both the bookiemed coordinator, the assistant, and my doctor (Dr. C Altindąg), is very experienced and talked me through what to expect and analyzed my nose very thoroughly. I breath perfectly now after surgery and my nose is a lot straighter (I had a severe deviated septum and other complications from a past surgery that he identified and corrected including a mirgrated graft and a droopy tip). I'm still quite swollen but look forward to seeing final results in a few months.

FAQ about Adam's apple surgery in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What are the main risks and complications of Adam's apple (tracheal shave) surgery?

Adam s apple surgery is generally safe but carries specific risks to vocal quality and airway function. While complications are rare, over-aggressive cartilage shaving can damage vocal cord attachments, leading to permanent pitch changes, hoarseness, or a reduced vocal range.

  • Vocal alterations: Damage to the anterior commissure can cause permanent voice deepening or weakness.
  • Swallowing issues: Temporary pain or difficulty swallowing is common during the first post-operative week.
  • Aesthetic under-correction: Conservative shaving to protect nerves may leave a visible residual bump.
  • Scarring: Traditional incisions may result in hyperpigmentation or visible keloids on the neck.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data from top Turkish facilities like Memorial Şişli Hospital suggests that surgical precision is the primary risk mitigator. Specialized surgeons like Dr. Atilla Hacilar at CE International Hospital often possess over 20 years of experience. We see higher satisfaction when patients choose centers that perform over 100 cases annually to avoid under-correction.

Patient Consensus: Many patients emphasize that persistent swelling or asymmetry can occur if the protrusion is bony rather than cartilage. They recommend getting a pre-operative ultrasound to confirm your anatomy and using silicone sheets early to manage neck sensitivity and scarring.

How long is the recovery timeline after tracheal shave surgery?

Primary recovery after a tracheal shave typically takes 1 to 2 weeks for swelling and bruising to subside. Most patients return to work within 7 to 10 days, while internal tissues require 9 to 12 months for complete scar maturation and final contouring results.

  • Initial recovery: Patients generally resume light daily activities within 3 to 7 days post-surgery.
  • Results timeline: Final aesthetic outcomes typically emerge between 1 and 3 months as swelling resolves.
  • Physical restrictions: Avoid strenuous exercise and heavy lifting for at least 4 weeks after the procedure.
  • Voice protection: Minimize shouting or singing for 2 weeks to prevent strain on the vocal cords.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many clinics suggest returning to work in 5 days, our data indicates that bruising often peaks between days 4 and 7. If your role involves face-to-face meetings, planning for a full 10 days off ensures any yellowing or localized swelling under the chin is easily managed or concealed.

Patient Consensus: Many feel that pain is manageable, similar to a sore throat, but advise sleeping elevated and using ice packs religiously for the first 48 hours to control tightness.

Am I a suitable candidate for this procedure?

Suitable candidates for Adam's apple surgery in Turkey are typically individuals seeking a more feminine or smoother neck profile through tracheal shave or cartilage reduction. Ideal patients possess a prominent thyroid cartilage of at least 1cm while maintaining realistic expectations regarding scar visibility and voice changes.

  • Physical criteria: Visible cartilage protrusion often measuring 1cm or more for noticeable results.
  • Health status: Good overall health without uncontrolled thyroid issues or history of keloid scarring.
  • Smoking status: Non-smokers preferred as nicotine significantly impairs tissue healing and increases infection risks.
  • Anatomy check: Surgeons evaluate neck skin elasticity and the specific position of the vocal cords.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Clinical data shows surgeons like Dr. Atilla Hacilar at CE International Hospital leverage over 20 years of reconstructive experience for these delicate procedures. While costs range from $2,500 to $4,500, higher-tier Istanbul clinics often include sophisticated endoscopic equipment. This technology allows for smaller incisions, which is a critical factor for patients concerned about visible neck scarring.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize that this surgery provides a significant confidence boost, especially when the protrusion is visible through clothing. Most travelers report that managing expectations about the 2-week swelling period is essential for a smooth recovery experience.

Where exactly is the incision placed and will any scar be visible?

Surgeons in Turkey typically place the incision in a natural skin crease at the base of the neck or just above the suprasternal notch. This strategic positioning ensures the resulting 2 to 3 centimeter scar remains hidden within the neck's horizontal contours. Most scars fade significantly within 6 to 12 months.

  • Incision location: Placed in a natural horizontal skin fold at the base of the neck.
  • Minimally invasive options: Turkish clinics frequently use endoscopic techniques to reduce scar size by 50%.
  • Scar maturation: Redness typically fades into a faint, skin-colored line over 6 to 12 months.
  • Concealment methods: Surgeons often use medical glue and specialized tape to optimize healing outcomes.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While traditional open methods are common, choosing a clinic like Memorial Şişli Hospital often provides access to advanced surgical technologies. Data shows that opting for endoscopic approaches in Turkey can halve the visible scar size compared to standard open procedures. This is a critical factor for patients concerned about side-profile visibility.

Patient Consensus: Patients report that the small horizontal cut eventually settles into a natural crease. Many recommend using silicone sheets and vitamin E while avoiding sun exposure for 6 months to ensure the mark becomes nearly invisible.

Is the procedure safe to combine with facial feminisation surgeries in a single session?

Combining Adam's apple surgery with other facial feminization procedures in Turkey is generally safe for healthy patients. Surgeons often perform tracheal shaves alongside jaw contouring or rhinoplasty to achieve comprehensive results. This approach reduces total anesthesia exposure and consolidates recovery into a single healing period.

  • Surgical duration: Combined sessions usually stay within 6 to 8 hours to minimize risks.
  • Recovery period: Patients should plan at least 14 days in Turkey before flying home safely.
  • Clinical standards: Top Istanbul centers maintain Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation for multi-procedure safety.
  • Expert surgeons: Specialists like Dr. Atilla Hacilar offer over 20 years of reconstructive experience.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data from high-volume centers like Memorial Şişli Hospital suggests that grouping a tracheal shave with soft tissue work is more efficient than combining it with extensive bone restructuring. While clinics may offer lower bundle rates, the primary benefit is preventing the cumulative strain of multiple separate general anesthesia events.

Patient Consensus: Many patients find the tracheal shave to be the most manageable part of a multi-procedure session. However, they warn that throat swelling can make swallowing difficult if jaw or chin work is performed simultaneously.

What does a typical travel package include when undergoing Adam's apple surgery in Turkey?

Typical travel packages for Adam's apple surgery in Turkey provide an all-inclusive experience covering the surgical procedure, clinical fees, and essential logistics. These bundles generally feature private VIP transfers, 4-star or 5-star hotel accommodations, and dedicated patient coordination to ensure a seamless recovery process for international patients.

  • Surgical fees: Includes surgeon and anesthesiologist fees for the 1–2 hour procedure.
  • Clinical stay: Covers 1 night of hospitalization with 24/7 nursing and essential meals.
  • Accommodations: Provides 3–7 nights in a 4- or 5-star hotel for recovery.
  • VIP transfers: Includes private driver service between the airport, hotel, and clinic.
  • Medical aftercare: Covers follow-up visits, post-op medications, and 1–3 visits for stitch removal.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many clinics offer a 1-year touch-up guarantee, the real value lies in the hospital infrastructure. For example, Memorial Şişli Hospital was the first in Turkey to earn JCI accreditation. Choosing such facilities ensures that your all-inclusive price includes access to advanced emergency equipment and highly credentialed surgical teams.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize that while packages are comprehensive, you should budget 10–20% extra for potential stay extensions if bruising or swelling persists. Most appreciate the WhatsApp-based coordination but recommend confirming whether a solo hotel room is guaranteed without additional fees.

How do I verify my surgeon's credentials and facility standards in Turkey?

Verifying a surgeon in Turkey requires checking their registration with the Turkish Medical Association (TTB) and the Turkish Society of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (TSPRAS). Ensure the facility holds an International Health Tourism Authorization Certificate and maintain Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation for safety.

  • Surgeon registration: Cross-reference the surgeon full legal name on the official ebopras.org or TTB databases.
  • Specialization check: Confirm the doctor specializes in plastic, reconstructive, and aesthetic surgery, not general practice.
  • Facility licensing: Verify the clinic holds a mandatory Turkish Ministry of Health Health Tourism Authorization Certificate.
  • Hospital standards: Prioritize Joint Commission International (JCI) accredited hospitals like Memorial Şişli for 1,200+ safety standards.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many clinics claim high-end status, the elite tier is defined by hospital scale. Top-rated facilities like Memorial Şişli span 53,000 m² with 13 operating rooms. Larger hospitals offer onsite intensive care units, which are vital for safety during invasive facial feminization procedures.

Patient Consensus: Patients recommend requesting recent, unedited results for this specific surgery and searching the surgeon name alongside the word complications on local Turkish forums for unfiltered feedback.

What are the potential risks of having Adam's apple surgery (tracheal shave) in Turkey?

Adam's apple surgery in Turkey is generally safe. Specific risks include voice changes, visible scarring, or under-correction. Turkish specialists reduce these risks through precise laryngeal cartilage reduction. Choosing JCI-accredited hospitals in Istanbul or Antalya ensures international safety standards for this facial feminisation procedure.

  • Voice changes: Reducing too much cartilage may destabilise the larynx. This can cause long-term hoarseness or instability.
  • Visible scarring: Incisions in neck creases minimise visibility. However, keloid or hyper-pigmented scars may still occur.
  • Under-correction: Leaving too much cartilage may leave the protrusion visible. This might require revision surgery later.
  • Swallowing difficulty: Numbness or throat discomfort is common post-surgery. These issues typically resolve within weeks.

Bookimed Expert Insight: The best outcomes in Turkey come from specialists like Dr Hasbi Mert Meral. He has performed 2,000+ procedures. Experienced surgeons often combine the shave with other facial feminisation steps. This helps create a balanced, natural appearance across the neck profile.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey often mention that clear pre-operative tests made the process feel professional. They also value VIP transfer services. Many appreciate the detailed follow-up support that helps track healing after they return home to Australia.

Is Adam's apple surgery in Turkey considered a permanent procedure?

Adam's apple surgery in Turkey provides permanent results. The procedure involves surgically reducing the thyroid cartilage. Once a surgeon shaves or removes this cartilage, it does not grow back. The procedure creates a smoother neckline with irreversible effects for patients seeking a more feminine appearance.

  • Irreversible reduction: Shaving the thyroid cartilage permanently changes the neck profile as cartilage does not regenerate.
  • Structural safety: Surgeons limit cartilage removal to protect vocal cords and maintain long-term voice stability.
  • Lasting results: Results remain stable indefinitely. Post-operative swelling may take several months to subside.
  • Surgical expertise: Specialists like Dr Hasbi Mert Meral have performed 2,000+ procedures for consistent outcomes.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Cartilage reduction is permanent. Turkey's specialists often perform this alongside other facial feminisation procedures. Centres like CE International Hospital serve 12,000+ patients annually. They frequently bundle this surgery with chin or jaw contouring. This approach balances the permanent neck change with newly contoured facial features.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey confirm the removed cartilage never returns. Final results appear only after swelling fades. They find the change irreversible and emphasise choosing experienced surgeons to avoid voice issues.

What is the typical recovery timeline for Adam's apple surgery performed in Turkey?

Recovery after Adam's apple surgery in Turkey typically takes 1 to 2 weeks for initial healing. Final results usually settle within 3 months. Most patients return to desk work after 7 days. However, avoid strenuous exercise for at least 4 weeks to help the incision heal correctly.

  • Hospital stay: Most patients spend 1 night in a clinic for monitoring and pain management.
  • Initial swelling: Swelling and bruising peak within 7 to 10 days before gradually subsiding.
  • Vocal rest: Specialists recommend avoiding shouting or straining the voice for the first week.
  • Surgical follow-up: Stitches are usually removed 7 to 10 days after the procedure in Istanbul.
  • Scar maturation: The incision line remains pink for several weeks but fades significantly by 3 months.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish clinics like Estexper Clinic and Ento Surgical Medical Center hold International Health Tourism Authorization Certificates. These clinics specifically cater to Australian patients. Choose JCI-accredited facilities like Memorial Bahçelievler for high safety standards during the first 48 hours of healing.

Patient Consensus: Patients travelling to Turkey report that keeping the head elevated reduces discomfort. Using cold compresses during the first week also helps. The transition to normal activities is generally smooth once throat tightness disappears.

Will there be a visible scar after Adam's apple surgery in Turkey?

Adam's apple surgery in Turkey typically results in a minimal scar. This mark usually fades significantly within 3 to 12 months. Specialists often place incisions within natural neck creases. Some use methods inside the mouth so no external scarring remains after healing.

  • Incision placement: Surgeons hide scars in horizontal neck folds or under the chin contour.
  • Specialised techniques: Methods performed through the lower lip leave zero visible neck scars.
  • Expert closure: Specialists use fine sutures and layered closure for thin, skin-coloured lines.
  • Healing timeline: Redness typically subsides as the scar matures into a faint line over one year.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Many Turkish clinics offer tracheal shaves. However, patient volume data suggests prioritising centres with ENT or maxillofacial expertise. Ento Surgical Medical Center and CE International Hospital serve thousands of international patients annually. Their surgeons often perform these procedures alongside complex facial reconstructions, leading to cleaner incision lines.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey report that incisions in natural creases become nearly invisible. Most emphasise that diligent sun protection and following scar management advice help the mark fade.

Can Adam's apple surgery in Turkey be combined with other procedures?

Adam’s apple surgery in Turkey is frequently combined with other procedures to improve facial harmony. Hubs in Istanbul and Antalya often pair a tracheal shave with facial feminisation surgery. They also offer jawline contouring or voice surgery under a single anaesthesia session.

  • Facial feminisation: Combines tracheal shavings with brow lifts or rhinoplasty for feminine profiles.
  • V-line surgery: Shapes the jaw and chin alongside thyroid cartilage reduction for balance.
  • Voice surgery: Pairs aesthetic reduction with vocal cord adjustment to align appearance and sound.
  • Maxillofacial systems: Specialised centres like Memorial Şişli Hospital use multidisciplinary teams for complex combinations.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish surgical hubs often treat many gender-affirming cases. Memorial Şişli Hospital was the first in Turkey to earn JCI accreditation. This makes it a reliable choice for combined maxillofacial and aesthetic work. Clinics in İzmir and Istanbul, including Ento Surgical Medical Centre, cater to Australian patients. They simplify logistics for those travelling from Oceania for multiple procedures.
