"He is very happy that he finally got rid of the cancer using the da Vinci robot
The Medipol Clinic in Istanbul was recommended to me by bookimed specialists. I was very pleased with the additional service. We were met with my father at the airport and taken to the guest house, which was provided by the hospital free of charge, as well as free 3 meals a day, not only for my father, but also for me. Every day a car came for us to take us to the clinic, as well as to take us back. We were provided with the services of an interpreter. Translator Murat turned out to be a very good person, he told everything and helped absolutely everything. operas atsiyu. Everything went fine, he is very happy that he finally got rid of the cancer using the da Vinci robot. The staff after the operation behaved very courteously and neatly.

My attending physician Ilker Tinay performed the operation brilliantly
For a long time I have chosen a clinic for performing robotic nerve-sparing surgery according to the Da Vinci method. In Kazakhstan, such operations are not performed. I wanted to go to Germany or Israel, negotiated with them, but due to covid restrictions I had to choose Turkey. And I did not regret it at all. From the proposed options I chose the Anadolu clinic. After 6 days I was already in Istanbul. The entire organization and coordination of treatment was at the highest level. For which I am very grateful to coordinator Eliza. She was always in touch and could be contacted for any question. Special thanks to the translators Zahida and Muhammad. They were very attentive and responsive, they were always interested in my condition and were in touch. Now directly about the treatment. After examination by an oncourologist and providing him with all the examinations at home, in 2 days I was scheduled for an operation. No extra examinations and money spinning were appointed. My attending physician Ilker Tinay performed the operation brilliantly. The operation lasted for about 5 hours, under general anesthesia, but by the evening I was already forced to walk, accompanied by nurses. And after another 2 days I was able to check out. In the department, everyone from the doctor to the orderlies performed their work competently and professionally. I would also like to say about the conditions. A separate room of about 20 sq. m with a shower, toilet, pull-out chair for an accompanying person, TV, refrigerator and even a safe. (My hotel room was worse). After I was discharged, the doctor examined me three more times and gave me recommendations. And now after 2 weeks I feel almost completely healthy and there are no side effects (although according to statistics this is possible and quite often). I would like to thank my attending physician Ilker Tinay for his qualified and attentive approach to my treatment. As a result, the cost of examination and treatment was significantly different for the better from the same in Europe or Israel. Thanks to everyone who took part in this.

FAQ about Robotic da Vinci prostatectomy in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What is the cancer-control success rate of robotic da Vinci prostatectomy in Turkey?

Robotic da Vinci prostatectomy in Turkey achieves a 95% cancer-free margin success rate for localized prostate cancer. Leading JCI-accredited centers report cancer-free survival reaching 99%. Long-term data indicates a 15-year survival rate of 97%, supported by low biochemical recurrence rates of 2.9%.

  • Cancer-free survival: Clinical data shows survival rates up to 99% for localized stage cases.
  • Surgical margins: Specialized Turkish centers maintain positive surgical margin (PSM) rates as low as 6.1%.
  • Recurrence monitoring: Post-operative biochemical recurrence rates remain low at 2.9% during standard follow-up periods.
  • Surgeon volume: Top experts like Dr. Ilker Tinay have performed over 900 robotic prostatectomies.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Success rates in Turkey are driven by extreme surgeon specialization. While the average US surgeon may perform 20–30 robotic cases annually, experts at high-volume Istanbul clinics often exceed 100 cases per year. This volume directly correlates with the 95% success rate in achieving cancer-free margins and superior nerve-sparing outcomes.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize the importance of verifying a surgeon's personal statistics regarding margin-negative rates. Many report high satisfaction with the rapid 2-day recovery and the professional coordination provided by JCI-accredited facilities.

What are the main advantages of robotic prostatectomy over traditional open surgery?

Robotic prostatectomy offers superior precision through 10x magnification and 3D visualization, allowing surgeons to better preserve delicate nerves controlling urinary and sexual function. Patients experience significantly less blood loss, reduced postoperative pain from tiny keyhole incisions, and a faster return to daily activities compared to traditional open surgery.

  • Incision size: Surgeons use several 1–2 cm ports instead of a 5-inch open abdominal cut.
  • Blood loss: Robotic techniques typically result in 200–500 ml loss versus 1,000+ ml in open.
  • Hospital stay: Most patients are discharged within 2 to 4 days rather than a week.
  • Recovery time: Full recovery and return to work often occur within 2 to 4 weeks.
  • Nerve preservation: Enhanced 3D views improve 12-month continence rates to approximately 90% in most cases.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While surgeon skill is paramount, the experience gap in Turkey is notable. Top specialists like Dr. Volkan Tugcu at Liv Hospital Vadistanbul have performed over 2,500 procedures. Choosing a surgeon with at least 300 robotic cases is the critical threshold for significantly better nerve-sparing outcomes and faster functional recovery.

Patient Consensus: Patients frequently highlight the rapid transition from surgery to walking. Many report feeling almost healthy within 2 weeks and appreciate the minimal scarring and reduced need for narcotic pain medication compared to open procedures.

How long will I be hospitalized and what is the overall recovery timeline?

Hospitalization for robotic da Vinci prostatectomy in Turkey typically lasts 1 to 5 days, depending on the clinic and package. Most patients return to light work within 1 to 3 weeks. Long-term recovery for continence takes 3 to 6 months, while sexual function may require 6 to 12 months.

  • Hospital stay: Expect 2 to 4 nights in a JCI-accredited facility following the robot-assisted procedure.
  • Catheter duration: A urinary catheter is required for 5 to 10 days post-surgery for healing.
  • Initial recovery: Walking is encouraged within 24 hours to prevent clots and assist bowel function.
  • Activity restrictions: Avoid heavy lifting and strenuous physical work for at least 4 to 6 weeks.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish centers like Anadolu Medical Center and Men's Health Clinics prioritize high surgical volume, with lead surgeons often exceeding 900 to 1,100 robotic cases. This extensive experience frequently leads to faster discharge times of 48 hours compared to average European stays. Patients can often transition to a recovery hotel for the remaining 7 to 10 days until catheter removal.

Patient Consensus: Patients report that while the first 5 hours post-op are challenging due to anesthesia, they were walking by the first evening. Many were surprised by the minimal pain compared to expectations and emphasized that having a translator present made the rapid discharge process feel safe and organized.

What are the primary advantages of using the da Vinci system for a prostatectomy in Turkey?

The da Vinci system in Turkey offers superior precision. It combines 3D high-definition visualisation with tremor-filtering robotic arms. This lets surgeons perform nerve-sparing techniques more effectively than open surgery. Patients benefit from significantly reduced blood loss, smaller incisions, and faster returns to urinary continence.

  • Clinical precision: Robotic wrists rotate 540 degrees to navigate tight pelvic spaces accurately.
  • Nerve preservation: Enhanced 3D magnification helps protect delicate nerves responsible for erectile function.
  • Rapid recovery: Patients typically walk the same evening and return home within 2 days.
  • Infection control: Minimally invasive keyhole ports reduce surgical site risks compared to open incisions.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish centres often offer a higher degree of specialisation than general hospitals. Dr Volkan Tugcu at Liv Hospital Vadistanbul has performed more than 2,500 urological surgeries. He even invented his own technique. This high volume often leads to better functional outcomes for potency and continence.

Patient Consensus: Recovery in Turkey is remarkably smooth with minimal pain and tiny incisions that fade quickly. The medical tourism setup handles all transfers and translations. Patients are left to focus entirely on their healing.

How long is the hospital stay and recovery time after robotic da Vinci prostatectomy in Turkey?

Patients typically stay in hospital for 2 to 4 days following robotic prostatectomy in Turkey. Initial mobilisation begins within 24 hours. Return to desk work and light activities usually takes 2 weeks. Full recovery for strenuous physical tasks usually requires 4 to 6 weeks.

  • Hospital stay: Varies by clinic, with Men's Health Clinics requiring 2 days and Anadolu requiring 4.
  • Initial activity: Nurses help patients walk within the first 24 hours to prevent complications.
  • Catheter removal: The urinary catheter usually stays in place for 5 to 10 days post-surgery.
  • Activity restrictions: Heavy lifting and strenuous exercise must be avoided for 4 to 6 weeks.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Basic clinical guidelines suggest a 2-day stay. However, Bookimed data shows high-volume centres like Anadolu and Florence Nightingale often include 4 days. This longer stay is preferred by international patients. It covers the most critical early recovery window before discharge to a hotel.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey report being encouraged to walk within hours of surgery. This is despite the intensive 5-hour procedure. They appreciate the private hospital rooms. These often feel more like hotel suites, making the first week of recovery much more comfortable.

Which clinics and specialists in Turkey are recognised for robotic da Vinci prostatectomies?

Turkey is a leading centre for robotic urological surgery, featuring JCI-accredited facilities and surgeons with extensive case volumes. Recognised clinics like Anadolu Medical Center and Memorial Şişli Hospital use the da Vinci XI system. They perform nerve-sparing prostatectomies with high precision and faster recovery times.

  • Specialised clinics: Anadolu Medical Center and Memorial Şişli Hospital provide dedicated robotic uro-oncology units.
  • Expert surgeons: Dr Ilker Tinay and Dr Murat Binbay have performed 900+ and 600+ procedures respectively.
  • Clinical excellence: Anadolu Medical Center is affiliated with Johns Hopkins Medicine, supporting top-tier surgical standards.
  • Accredited facilities: Group Florence Nightingale Hospitals holds British QHA and JCI seals for patient safety.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many clinics offer robotic surgery, outcomes depend heavily on individual surgeon volume. Data shows Dr Volkan Tugcu at Liv Hospital Vadistanbul has performed 2,500+ urological surgeries. Better preservation of urinary and sexual function often correlates with choosing a high-volume specialist.

Patient Consensus: Patients report returning to light activity within days. They also appreciate the thorough follow-up exams provided in Istanbul. The coordination includes VIP transfers and 24-hour nursing care. This helps make the recovery process smooth and comfortable.
