Burak Özkan

Assoc. Prof. Burak Özkan is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon specializing in microsurgery and aesthetic procedures. He serves on the executive committees of the International Society of Burn Injuries and the Turkish Reconstructive Microsurgery Society. Dr. Özkan is a Fellow of the European Board of Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery (FEBOPRAS).

Specialization & Approach

Dr. Özkan treats reconstructive and cosmetic challenges. His work includes hand and upper extremity surgery, lymphedema treatment, and maxillofacial reconstruction. He treats keloid scars and gynecomastia — a condition where breast tissue swells in men — using surgical techniques. Dr. Özkan performs breast reconstruction and oncoplastic surgery for patients following cancer treatment.

For aesthetic goals, he performs deep plane facelifts, rhinoplasty, and post-bariatric body contouring. The specialist also uses energy-based devices for skin rejuvenation. His surgical repertoire includes microvascular flap transfers for extremity and head and neck reconstruction. Dr. Özkan applies regenerative medicine principles to improve patient outcomes in scar revision and burn treatment.

Research & Recognition

Dr. Özkan received the ISBI Professor Aikawa Young Investigator Prize in 2024. He was part of the 2020 cohort for the EURAPS Young Plastic Surgeons Scholarship. His research includes developing the hammock method for arterial anastomosis in lower extremity flap transfers. This method provides a stable platform for connecting blood vessels during surgery. Additionally, he pioneered a scalp flap elevation technique using balloon trocar dissection.
