Good day! During this treatment, I was only twice in this medical center, both times in the laboratory for blood donation, I waited 1 hour for the first time, 30 minutes for the second time, despite the fact that there was no visitor except me. All other actions, including the consultation of the doctor, were not in this clinic, so it is difficult for me, based on the foregoing, to make a different assessment. Also about the doctor. I was given the wrong doctor who was originally declared. I do not know anything about the current attending physician, please provide the data whenever possible. The doctor's conclusion, by the way, was also not carried out on Ichilov’s form — on a regular sheet and contains not the appointments that were made as a result, the doctor’s explanation of the side effects of the drugs (but I was going there, because your specialist said medicine without side effects and this was the key for me), appointed in the end and containing quite strong side effects.

The doctor was very good, he took and prescribed the medicine and explained everything is good!About the Doctor: The doctor was very good, he took and prescribed the medicine and explained everything is good! About the Clinic: All the bistros were done
Thank you very much for the help and the examination. All the bistros were done. The doctor was very good, he took and prescribed the medicine and explained everything is good! Thanks! Only with the payment in the wedge we did not understand the accompanying staff! People come for the first time without knowing anything; they don’t help and explain! With payment, you should not tell people that beforehand such large sums would be paid at the clinic! We paid sent a check and on the second day everything was paid for! Do not enter people in zabozhenie! We are very much overpowered because of the payment is not correct, this is a very large amount! You must correctly explain to people about payment! thank

"The result was an excellent recovery
Now everything is fine, but when I flew in for one day to leave the person for treatment, and spent a week with the risk of flying back with the person in the wheelchair, the surviving Bookimed removed himself from this situation.

Expert Overview about HIV Treatment in Israel

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Is HIV treatment free in Israel?

HIV treatment is free for all Israeli citizens and residents through the national health basket. The four official health maintenance organizations cover antiretroviral therapy, diagnostic tests, and specialist visits. Non-residents and tourists must pay for private consultations and medication out of pocket.

  • Universal health basket: Covers antiretroviral therapy (ART) and monitoring for all insured citizens.
  • Specialized diagnostic methods: Clinics provide HIV diagnostics and consultations with expert infectious disease specialists.
  • Undocumented migrant access: Government programs provide free ART to eligible non-citizens after six months.
  • Private care costs: Non-residents may pay approximately $750 for specialist consultations in private settings.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While public treatment is standardized, choosing a high-volume center like Sourasky Medical Center (Ichilov) provides access to multidisciplinary teams. This clinic serves over 400,000 patients annually and employs specialists like Dr. Evhenii Katsman. Our data shows that top-tier facilities often integrate infectious disease care with internal medicine expertise for better long-term health management.

Patient Consensus: Patients note that major health funds provide medications quickly after diagnosis, often within a few weeks. Some travelers mention that private payment processes at large hospitals can be confusing, so it helps to clarify billing procedures before your first visit.

What medications are available for HIV treatment in Israel?

Israel provides advanced antiretroviral therapy (ART) medications including single-tablet regimens and long-acting injectables. Standard treatments like Biktarvy and Dovato are available at specialized facilities. Leading centers like Sourasky Medical Center and Rambam Medical Center manage these protocols through dedicated infectious disease departments.

  • Single-tablet regimens: Biktarvy and Gendevra combine multiple drugs into one daily pill.
  • Injectable therapy: Cabenuva offers long-acting protection administered every one or two months.
  • Dual-drug therapy: Dovato uses dolutegravir and lamivudine for effective viral suppression.
  • Specialized combinations: Eviplera and Truvada remain core components of many tailored regimens.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Israeli oncology and immunology centers often share resources, which benefits complex cases. Dr. Evhenii Katsman at Sourasky Medical Center brings 20+ years of experience in internal medicine and immunology. This dual expertise is vital for patients managing HIV alongside other chronic conditions. Over 2,900 patients have sought specialized care in Israel through our platform, favoring the high 90% success rates in related immunotherapy fields.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize working with dedicated infectious disease specialists rather than general doctors to ensure consistent medication supply. Many note achieving undetectable viral loads within 6 months while experiencing minimal side effects on modern integrase-based regimens.

Can I travel to Israel with my HIV medication?

You can travel to Israel with HIV medication for personal use without restriction. Short-term visitors face no entry bans based on HIV status. You must carry a 90-day supply in original packaging. Always include a valid prescription and a doctor letter for security. Keep all treatments in your carry-on luggage.

  • Supply limits: Travelers may bring up to a 90-day supply for personal medical use.
  • Mandatory labels: Medication must remain in original pharmacy packaging with clear dosage instructions.
  • Required documentation: Carry a signed doctor letter and prescription to present at security checkpoints.
  • Active treatments: Israeli centers provide modern protocols including Gendevra, Tivicay, Truvada, and Eviplera.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While Israeli centers like Sourasky Medical Center serve over 1,800,000 patients annually, tourists should not rely on local pharmacies for immediate refills. Even with top specialists like Dr. Evhenii Katsman available, bureaucratic paperwork for international prescriptions can cause delays. Bringing a 20% buffer beyond your planned stay ensures you avoid complex local procurement processes.

Patient Consensus: Patients note that security at Ben Gurion Airport is thorough but fair if you declare your medication and syringes immediately. They emphasize that having a doctor's contact ready for a verification call can quickly resolve any questions during screening.

Where should I go for my first HIV appointment in Israel?

The best location for an HIV appointment in Israel depends on your residency status and the need for anonymous testing. Major JCI-accredited centers like Sourasky Medical Center in Tel Aviv and Rambam Medical Center in Haifa provide comprehensive diagnostics and modern antiretroviral therapies for residents and international patients.

  • Specialized centers: Sourasky (Ichilov) and Rambam offer multidisciplinary care with infectious disease specialists.
  • Expert physicians: Dr. Evhenii Katsman at Sourasky has over 20 years of experience in immunology.
  • Testing protocols: Standard diagnostics include viral load, CD4 counts, and resistance testing for treatment planning.
  • Support services: Pediatric infectious diseases are managed by specialists like Dr. Grisaro Galia at Ichilov.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While patients often focus on finding the biggest hospital, clinic capacity varies greatly. Our data shows Sourasky Medical Center treats over 400,000 patients annually and manages 240 specialized departments. Choosing a high-volume center in Tel Aviv ensures access to specialized pediatric immunology and complex infectious disease teams not always present in smaller regional clinics.

Patient Consensus: Patients note that initial lab waits can take 30 to 60 minutes even without crowds. It is important to confirm all payment details and doctor names before arrival to ensure a smooth administrative process during your visit.

Is PrEP or PEP available in Israel?

PrEP and PEP are widely available in Israel through the national healthcare system and private clinics. PrEP was approved in 2017 for residents with a prescription. Emergency PEP is accessible 24/7 at hospital emergency rooms like Sourasky Medical Center (Ichilov). Success depends on starting PEP within 72 hours.

  • PrEP access: Residents obtain prescriptions from family doctors or specialists after HIV testing.
  • PEP availability: Emergency rooms provide an initial supply immediately after potential viral exposure.
  • Clinic options: Major multidisciplinary centers in Tel Aviv and Haifa offer infectious disease consultations.
  • Available therapies: Specialists utilize combination antiretroviral drugs including Truvada, Gendevra, Tivicay, and Eviplera.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many seek care in Tel Aviv, specialized infectious disease experts like Dr. Evhenii Katsman at Sourasky Medical Center provide targeted immunology support. Our data shows that top-tier Israeli hospitals manage nearly 1,000,000 patients annually. This high volume ensures doctors are highly experienced in the latest antiretroviral protocols and drug interactions.

Patient Consensus: Patients note that arriving at the clinic early for blood work is essential, though wait times can occur. They emphasize that while medical care is professional, confirming all costs upfront is vital for a smooth experience.

Are there anonymous HIV testing clinics in Israel?

Israel provides anonymous HIV testing through specialized clinics where results are not linked to personal identification. Centers like the Levinsky Clinic in Tel Aviv or the Jerusalem Open House use unique codes. These facilities ensure privacy by excluding data from national medical records.

  • Testing locations: Anonymous services are available at the Israel AIDS Task Force in Tel Aviv.
  • Identification method: Patients receive a unique number or code to retrieve their test results.
  • Clinic options: The Levinsky Clinic provides anonymous testing funded by the Ministry of Health.
  • Confirmation protocol: Positive results require a follow-up test where personal identification is generally required.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While public hospitals like Sourasky Medical Center (Ichilov) and Rambam Medical Center serve over 400,000 and 900,000 patients annually, they primarily handle diagnostic consultations. For true anonymity, NGOs and specialized municipal clinics in Tel Aviv or Haifa are more streamlined. These dedicated centers often bypass the administrative intake layers found in large multidisciplinary hospitals.

Patient Consensus: Patients note that arriving during set hours at clinics in South Tel Aviv often allows for walk-in testing without an ID. Many recommend requesting a translator if you do not speak Hebrew to ensure the anonymous coding process is explained clearly.

What organizations provide support for people living with HIV in Israel?

Israel provides support for people living with HIV through a network of non-governmental organizations, national health services, and specialized hospital centers. Major support includes the Israel AIDS Task Force, the Levinsky Clinic for anonymous care, and comprehensive treatment coverage via national health insurance programs.

  • Israel AIDS Task Force: Offers free emotional support, peer mentoring, and legal advocacy for one year.
  • Clinical centers: Sourasky Medical Center and Rambam Medical Center provide specialized infectious disease care.
  • Levinsky Clinic: Delivers free, anonymous testing and medical treatment specifically for high-risk or undocumented individuals.
  • Financial coverage: National Health Insurance Law ensures residents receive HIV medications with low or no cost.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Patient volume data highlights a significant concentration of expertise in Tel Aviv. Sourasky Medical Center handles over 1,800,000 patients annually and houses specialists like Dr. Evhenii Katsman, who has over 20 years of experience. This high volume often translates to faster access to the latest drug protocols like Gendevra or Tivicay compared to smaller regional clinics.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize that while hospital wait times for blood work can be long, the medical treatment and doctor consultations are professional and helpful. Many note that the Ministry of Health clinics serve as essential, non-judgmental hubs for immediate care and medication.
