Drs seemed very good. The consultation was calm and professional but I was told I would have results within 2 working days. When I didn’t receive any information I returned to the hospital and was told I would be emailed within 24 hours. When that didn’t happen I had to come in again and was hugely surprised by a very rude and impatient receptionist who was dismissive and seemed to want to blame me somehow. She made some very unprofessional comments about me to colleagues in front of other patients when she thought I couldn’t hear. Other staff did their best to help afterwards but considering the money spent and my experience I would not recommend this place at all.

I went to the Galeazzi clinic. Milan. Italy. on my son's problem - gmgantism. Coordinators from Bookimed got involved. Had an online consultation. for which I paid 360 euros. All required documentation has been sent. references. analyses. x-rays. To determine the volume of the operation and the cost, they said that the patient needs to come to Milan. I'm from Ukraine. It's hard to describe how the journey cost me. with what difficulty. Upon arrival in Milan. we are consulted by another doctor and gives quite the opposite answer.!! Is it really impossible to agree and view all the documentation. y t. h and the video was sent!!! with immediately give a negative answer during an online consultation. why do it at all then? It's just a waste of money. not problem solving. Be careful!

"A trip to the clinic was done by Yana
Hello, I have serious scoliosis and some other health problems, it is necessary to operate scoliosis and preferably as soon as possible since it will only get worse ... In Ukraine, everyone refused to operate because there was a very big risk, Poland also refused ... Then I My coordinator Pavel Popkov wrote to Bookimed just a great person, he answers any questions even to stupid ones, he sent my documents to different clinics and finally the Galeazzi clinic was told to come for a detailed consultation ... The consultation was successful, everything seems to be going positive, waiting for a final decision from them! A trip to the clinic was done by Yana. She got us free tickets for a special program.

FAQ about Conservative treatment for habitual dislocation of the shoulder in Italy

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What does conservative treatment for habitual shoulder dislocation involve in Italy?

Conservative treatment for habitual shoulder dislocation in Italy focuses on non-surgical stabilization using structured physiotherapy, bracing, and neuromuscular training. Patients undergo 3 to 6 weeks of immobilization followed by intensive rotator cuff strengthening and proprioception training in JCI-accredited facilities to restore dynamic joint stability.

  • Immobilization period: Sling wear for 3–6 weeks allows soft tissues to heal properly.
  • Rehabilitation focus: Rotator cuff strengthening and scapular stabilization are the primary clinical goals.
  • Innovative technology: Specialized clinics use EMS `shoulder pacemaker` devices for advanced neuromuscular control.
  • Estimated costs: Treatment ranges from $2,500 to $4,500 depending on program duration.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many Italian centers like Maria Cecilia Hospital are recognized for orthopedic excellence, conservative success often depends on specialized equipment. Italy is a leader in using shoulder pacemaker devices for hyperlaxity. Choosing a clinic with these EMS tools can significantly improve outcomes for patients who failed traditional therapy elsewhere.

Patient Consensus: Many patients find that combining physical therapy with daily rotator cuff warm-ups provides long-term stability. However, athletes often warn that conservative management may eventually lead to surgery if underlying joint laxity remains unaddressed.

How effective is physiotherapy at preventing another dislocation?

Physiotherapy is effective for 50% to 80% of patients preventing repeat shoulder dislocations through muscle strengthening. Guided programs focus on active stability to lower recurrence risk. Early intervention within days of injury helps restore joint control and protects the rotator cuff during movement.

  • Success rates: Structured rehabilitation helps up to 80% of patients avoid future surgical intervention.
  • Proprioception training: Exercises improve joint sensing to help the shoulder react to sudden movements.
  • Age factors: Patients over 40 see more consistent success compared to high-risk younger athletes.
  • Adherence impact: Consistent attendance and home exercise completion are the primary predictors of long-term stability.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Italian orthopedic centers like Maria Cecilia Hospital demonstrate a strong focus on conservative care for complex joint disorders. While physiotherapy is the first line of defense, our data suggests younger patients should monitor progress closely. If instability persists after 3 months of dedicated rehab, a surgical consultation is often necessary to prevent permanent glenoid bone loss.

Patient Consensus: Many patients find that combining daily band work with bracing during sports provides the best stability. However, those under age 25 often report that physiotherapy alone is insufficient if they return to high-impact activities.

What shoulder positions or activities must be avoided during recovery?

During recovery from habitual shoulder dislocation, you must avoid reaching behind your back, overhead movements, and external rotations like throwing motions. Maintain a safe zone where your hand remains visible. Avoid heavy lifting and sleeping on the affected side for at least 4 to 6 weeks.

  • Restricted reaching: Reaching behind the back for seatbelts or pockets causes risky internal rotation.
  • Overhead activity: Avoid reaching for high shelves or hair washing for 4 to 6 weeks.
  • Weighted movements: Skip push-ups, planks, and lifting items heavier than a cup initially.
  • Sleep positioning: Sleep on your back with a pillow supporting the injured arm.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many programs focus on heavy lifting, Italian orthopedic centers like Maria Cecilia Hospital emphasize avoiding repetitive micro-tasks. Even typing can cause strain if your elbow flares out. Keep your elbow tucked to your side to protect the joint during daily digital work.

Patient Consensus: Many patients found that using the opposite arm for all household tasks was essential. They highly recommend delegating all reaching or grabbing activities during the first month to prevent accidental re-injury.

What is the typical length of a shoulder-stability rehab program?

A typical shoulder-stability rehab program for conservative treatment lasts 3 to 6 months. Initial immobilization and gentle mobility take 6 to 12 weeks. Strength and dynamic stability training follow in months 3 to 6. Recovery ensures long-term joint health and reduces future re-dislocation risk.

  • Phase 1 duration: Immobilization and passive mobility occur during the first 6 to 12 weeks.
  • Strengthening phase: Active muscle engagement and resistance training typically begin around months 3 to 4.
  • Advanced stability: Sport-specific drills and plyometric conditioning extend into months 4 through 6.
  • Evaluation milestone: Specialists recommend orthopedic reassessment if no functional improvement appears by month 3.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Italian centers like Maria Cecilia Hospital demonstrate that private protocols can shorten rehab to 3 months. Public SSN protocols usually average 4 months with weekly sessions. Choosing a JCI-accredited facility ensures access to advanced scapular stabilizers and integrated physiotherapy teams. This structure often prevents the need for surgical intervention later.

Patient Consensus: Many find tracking weekly milestones essential to staying motivated during the long process. Patients warn that rushing into heavy lifting before 8 weeks often causes progress-halting setbacks.

Where can I find specialized non-operative shoulder rehabilitation clinics in Italy?

Specialized non-operative shoulder rehabilitation in Italy is concentrated in elite centers like Maria Cecilia Hospital and UPMC Salvator Mundi. These clinics utilize multidisciplinary teams of orthopedic specialists and physiatrists. They focus on manual therapy and functional re-education to treat chronic instability without surgery.

  • Specialized clinician teams: Centers combine orthopedic surgeons, osteopaths, and physiotherapists for holistic recovery.
  • Advanced diagnostic tools: Clinics use high-tech imaging and functional tests to guide treatment.
  • Therapeutic modalities: Programs often include hydrokinesitherapy, shockwave treatment, and ultrasound-guided regenerative therapies.
  • Accredited facilities: Top centers like Maria Cecilia Hospital maintain Joint Commission International accreditation.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Maria Cecilia Hospital stands out for shoulder pathology because it bridges the gap between major surgery and rehab. While they handle 15% of Italy's cardiac surgeries, their orthopedic department is specifically ranked by patients for high-quality disorder management. Choosing a large research-focused hospital like this ensures your conservative plan follows the latest evidence-based protocols.

Patient Consensus: Many suggest seeking SSN referrals for subsidized care at renowned institutes in Milan or Bologna. For faster access, private physiotherapy sessions in major cities typically cost €50-100 per visit.
