How Much Does Male to female (MTF) surgery Cost in Bangkok?

Male to female (MTF) surgery in Bangkok typically costs from $9,800 / ฿333,200 to $24,500 / ฿833,000 depending on the complexity of the chosen surgical technique. Patients save around 85% compared to the US, where this procedure costs $65,000 / ฿2,210,000 on average. Standard packages in Bangkok hospitals generally include surgeon fees, psychiatric evaluations, multiple nights of inpatient hospital care, medications, and airport-to-clinic transfers.

  • Penile inversion technique: typically the most affordable approach using existing local tissue for reconstruction.
  • Sigmoid colon vaginoplasty: carries a higher price due to complex internal abdominal surgery.
  • Peritoneal pull-through: often represents the premium price tier using the abdominal cavity lining.
  • Hospital tier: pricing varies between multi-specialty international facilities and specialized boutique plastic surgery clinics.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Bangkok clinics offer a unique depth of specialization within a single square mile. Hospitals like Wansiri and Asia Cosmetic report a 99% success rate for gender-affirming procedures. This volume-driven expertise lets many facilities offer all-inclusive 14-night VIP recovery packages. These bundles often include hotel stays and nursing supervision that would cost significantly more in other Thai cities.

Data verified by Bookimed as of September 2026, based on patient requests and official quotes from 13 clinics worldwide. Median costs are based on real invoices (2025–2026) and updated monthly. Actual prices may vary.

Even at just 15 days post-op, the initial aspect is already better than expected
Seeing the surgical site for the first time was the moment everything finally felt real. Even at just 15 days post-op, the initial aspect is already better than expected. We used the penile inversion technique, and while the results look promising, the recovery requires a lot of patience and steady commitment to the healing process. My biggest challenge at this stage is definitely the physical discomfort of being seated for a long time. It is a process. The clinic staff has been very attentive during my stay, and I am expecting to have the catheter removed very soon. To anyone else preparing for this surgery, it’s not easy but it is a good experience overall.

The initial appearance is honestly better than expected, even with all the healing that’s still to come
The initial appearance is honestly better than expected, even with all the healing that’s still to come. Seeing that was a huge relief. The surgeon and staff provided great support, making me feel secure from the start. Recovery is no joke. It was a positive step when the catheter was removed, but managing the dilation sessions has been very challenging. My biggest concern is the swelling, and I'm focused on trusting the process. The care and the surgical foundation are solid, which is why I'm rating everything positively.
Everything was perfect. The staff were kind, professional, and very supportive throughout the whole process. The doctor explained everything clearly and made me feel comfortable and cared for. The clinic was clean, organized, and exceeded my expectations. I’m very happy with my experience and grateful for the excellent care I received.
Nothing to complain about. Everything went smoothly and I was satisfied with the overall experience.

My biggest worry going into this was the quality of post-operative care, and that's where things fell short. While the surgeon's work was professional, the support from the clinic staff felt disorganized and was a source of stress during a vulnerable time. The clinic itself could also be improved. It’s a very mixed feeling. I can’t judge the aesthetic outcome yet because everything is still far too swollen to see clearly. On a positive note, getting the catheter removed was a definite relief and a good milestone. The medical part was handled, but the care aspect was lacking.
Language was a problem. Food was horrible, no attempt to take into account cultural differences. Had to wait over an hour for scheduled appointments. Minimal care by all. I would not recommend Wansiri Hospital to any of my friends. Staff would not reach out to my wife, when requested, to resolve problems.

I can honestly say the initial appearance is better than expected
My biggest worry was what the final result would look like. I can honestly say the initial appearance is better than expected. The surgeon used the penile inversion technique, and both the surgeon and the staff have been excellent. Recovery is, of course, a challenge. The catheter is manageable with proper care, and I am following the dilation schedule as instructed, but sitting for long periods is currently very difficult. It’s a real process. For anyone else getting ready for this, my advice is to be calm ☺️ and be happy for the wonderful physical change coming your way!

I wholeheartedly recommend Wansiri Hospital
The hospital is great. I have been looked after since the moment I arrived. The medical outcome is superb. The nurses were very kind and attentive. The only suggestion I would have is to pay in advance as foreign bank transfers can be tricky. I wholeheartedly recommend Wansiri Hospital
Nurses and translator were so kind. The doctor was wonderful
Everything was absolutely great!

FAQ about treatment in Thailand

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Which hospitals and clinics in Bangkok perform MTF surgeries?

Bangkok hosts well-known facilities for male-to-female gender reassignment surgery. These include Joint Commission International-accredited centers like Asia Cosmetic Hospital and Wansiri Hospital. Specialized institutes like Preecha Aesthetic Institute and MAXi Cosmetic Surgery offer penile inversion and colon vaginoplasty. Board-certified plastic surgeons perform these procedures.

  • Top clinics: Wansiri Hospital, Asia Cosmetic Hospital, and Yanhee International Hospital treat thousands of international patients.
  • Leading surgeons: Dr. Tanongsak Panyawirunroj and Dr. Kanit Wittayavanichai each have over 20 years of experience.
  • Procedure range: Centers perform vaginoplasty, orchiectomy, facial feminization, and voice feminization for a complete transition.
  • Accreditation standards: Most facilities hold Joint Commission International or ISO certifications to ensure high safety.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While clinics offer penile inversion, long-term recovery support varies widely. For instance, Asia Cosmetic Hospital packages include 14 hotel days and 7 hospital nights. This extended professional monitoring is vital. That’s because post-op complications often occur after the first week of healing.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize comparing specific surgical teams rather than just hospital brands. Patients often report high satisfaction with the results in Bangkok. However, they advise confirming the exact surgical technique and revision policies before traveling.

What are the medical requirements for MTF genital surgery in Bangkok?

Medical requirements for MTF surgery in Bangkok follow international standards. They typically require two psychiatric letters confirming gender dysphoria and at least 12 months of continuous hormone therapy. Patients must be 20 years old to give independent consent. At JCI-accredited facilities, 18-year-olds can have surgery with legal guardian approval.

  • Psychiatric evaluation: Approval from two psychiatrists is mandatory to confirm readiness for gender reassignment.
  • Medical clearance: Clinics require blood tests, EKG, and chest X-rays to make sure surgery is safe.
  • Pre-op preparation: Stop estrogen and blood-thinning medications 2 weeks before to lower clot risks.
  • Body Mass Index: Techniques like sigmoid colon vaginoplasty often require a BMI below 23.5.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many international centers require letters from your home country, Bangkok clinics often make this process simpler. They arrange the second psychiatric evaluation locally during your 7-day hospital stay. Clinics like Asia Cosmetic Hospital or Wansiri Hospital often do this. This internal coordination makes sure all legal Thai requirements are met. Patients do not need multiple specialists back home.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize starting hair removal months early. They also appreciate clinics that bundle psychiatric sign-offs. This simplifies the complex documentation process for international travelers.

How long do I need to stay in Bangkok for recovery after MTF surgery?

Patients should plan to stay in Bangkok for 21 to 28 days. This allows safe recovery after male-to-female surgery. The stay includes a 7-day hospital stay and then 2 weeks of local recovery. This recovery period covers dilation training and wound care before long-haul flights.

  • Hospital duration: Most surgeons require 7 days of inpatient monitoring for initial healing.
  • Hotel recovery: Plan for 14 nights in a nearby hotel for follow-up visits.
  • Travel clearance: Surgeons typically clear patients for air travel after 3 to 4 weeks.
  • Activity levels: Light mobility usually returns by week 4 through specialized dilation training.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Basic quotes suggest a 3-week stay. However, our data from clinics like Asia Cosmetic Hospital shows VIP packages often bundle 7 hospital days with 14 hotel nights. This 21-day window is a strict minimum. Patients choosing complex techniques like colon vaginoplasty at Wansiri Hospital should consider 30 days. This additional buffer prevents stress if minor wound issues require extra follow-up visits.

Patient Consensus: The first 2 weeks are the most intensive for rest and napping. Patients often advise bringing a specialized cushion. Sitting comfortably on hard surfaces can remain difficult for up to 8 weeks.
