"Thank you very much, Bookimed and Medipol teams, it is really very important and appreciated when things are taken care of and organised
Bookimed stuff is very helpful and quick to response. Airport transfer: I don't know what really was wrong, but we couldn't find the Medipol representative upon arrival at the airport. So I had to contact the coordinator, and then talk to somebody else, and then again to somebody else until finally the Medipol representative apparently (the guy didn't have any sign of belonging to the medical center: no ID or placard on him) found us after about 1 hr of waiting and calling. And then we had to wait for the car to arrive. So I guess informing the patients about meeting places/transfer times/contact details at the airport would be a good idea. Overall we had a good impression of Medipol. As for the medical stuff, the doctor seemed experienced and professional. He didn't ask us to do any unnesessary tests, but only those that really were relevant and required. I'm currently following the treatment scheme, so the time will show... The translator, Babadjan, is very responsible and reliable, helpful and organised. I'm really happy that we had him to accompany us. The hotel, Rotana, was very nice and clean, the stuff was friendly and helpful, they really care about their guests. Great breakfast. Thank you very much, Bookimed and Medipol teams, it is really very important and appreciated when things are taken care of and organised.

Expert Overview about Psoriasis Treatment in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What types of psoriasis treatments are available in Turkey?

Turkey provides advanced medical therapies and unique natural treatments for psoriasis. JCI-accredited clinics in Istanbul and Antalya offer biological injections, narrowband UVB phototherapy, and systemic medications. Patients also access world-renowned ichthyotherapy at specialized thermal springs to manage chronic symptoms in high-volume dermatology departments.

  • Systemic medications: Dermatologists prescribe methotrexate and cyclosporine for severe inflammatory flare-ups.
  • Biological therapies: Targeted injections like adalimumab focus on specific immune system pathways.
  • Specialized phototherapy: Narrowband UVB and laser treatments target stubborn plaques in clinical settings.
  • Natural ichthyotherapy: Sivas Kangal springs offer doctor fish therapy combined with UV radiation.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Dermatology centers in Turkey are exceptionally fast at escalating treatment levels. While some systems require months of topical trials, specialists at large centers like Medipol Mega or Liv Hospital Ulus often move to biological or systemic therapies much sooner. This faster clinical pathway is why Turkey serves patients from over 180 countries annually.

Patient Consensus: Patients note that private clinics provide much faster access to advanced therapies than public routes. They emphasize bringing previous photos and prescriptions to help doctor Mustafa Ozdemir or other specialists skip redundant tests.

How quickly can psoriasis treatments in Turkey show results?

Psoriasis treatments in Turkey frequently show visible improvements within 2 to 3 weeks. Intensive 21-day programs can reduce symptom severity by 50% to 75%. While topical creams work within days, advanced systemic therapies often require 2 to 12 weeks for maximum effect.

  • Intensive programs: Specialized 21-day inpatient protocols target a 75% reduction in plaque severity.
  • Topical therapy: Medicated creams typically reduce redness and itching within 14 days of use.
  • Advanced biologics: Systemic treatments show initial changes in 2 weeks and peak at 12 weeks.
  • Phototherapy results: Patients generally notice steady skin clearance after several weeks of regular sessions.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Patient volume is a major quality indicator in Turkey. For example, Medipol Mega University Hospital treats 1,000,000 patients annually. This high frequency allows dermatologists like Prof. Dr. Sevilay Oguz Kilic to refine protocols for faster results. They often use advanced technologies like the Da Vinci system for related surgeries, ensuring a high-tech care environment.

Patient Consensus: Patients note that initial relief from itching happens quickly, but they emphasize the need for a long-term plan. Many suggest confirming meeting points with hospital drivers early to avoid airport delays.

Do Turkish clinics offer traditional or spa-based therapies such as balneotherapy or fish therapy?

Turkish clinics offer traditional therapies like balneotherapy alongside medical treatments for psoriasis. specialized centers provide mineral water treatments and hydrotherapy for symptom relief. While fish therapy exists in wellness or tourist settings, dermatology clinics primarily focus on advanced medical protocols like phototherapy or biological systemic drugs.

  • Therapy types: Balneotherapy and hydrotherapy are common adjuncts for soothing chronic skin inflammation.
  • Medical focus: Specialist dermatologists like Prof. Dr. Sevilay Oguz Kilic focus on medical systemic care.
  • Wellness integration: Centers like Fizyomer Terapia integrate thermal water treatments with physiotherapy rehabilitation.
  • Clinic standards: Top institutions like Anadolu Medical Center maintain Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Our data shows most patients choose Turkey for the high density of JCI-accredited clinics like Medipol Mega or Liv Hospital Ulus rather than thermal resorts. While balneotherapy is a popular supportive tool, it rarely substitutes for the biologics or specialized dermatological surgery offered by Turkish professors. If you want sustainable control, ensure your plan combines high-tech diagnostics with any chosen spa-based therapy.

Patient Consensus: Patients note that while mineral baths and spa rituals offer temporary relief from itching, they work best when paired with medical prescriptions. Most advise treating fish therapy as a recreational activity rather than a long-term solution for clearing plaques.

Is a doctor’s referral required to receive psoriasis treatment in Turkey?

No doctor referral is required for psoriasis treatment at private Turkish clinics. International patients can book appointments directly with specialists. Most facilities accept medical records or biopsy results instead of formal referral letters. JCI-accredited hospitals in Istanbul and Antalya provide immediate access to dermatologists.

  • Direct access: Patients book specialist consultations directly without visiting a primary care physician.
  • Medical documentation: Bring previous biopsy reports and medication lists to improve diagnostic accuracy.
  • Private healthcare: Self-pay patients bypass typical public health system referral hurdles.
  • Accreditation standards: Most top-rated clinics hold Joint Commission International or ISO certifications.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While no referral is needed, scheduling with specific professors like Dr. Sevilay Oguz Kilic at Liv Hospital is strategic. Our data shows high-volume centers like Medipol Mega serve 1,000,000 patients annually. This massive scale often means dermatologists see more rare psoriasis variations in one month than others see in years.

Patient Consensus: Patients note it is easy to book directly. They emphasize that while no referral letter is needed, having your full history ready helps the doctor avoid repeating tests.

Can I combine psoriasis treatment in Turkey with a holiday?

Patients can easily combine psoriasis treatment in Turkey with a holiday. Centres in Istanbul and Antalya offer specialised care, so patients can combine treatment with travel. Therapies include exosome therapy and phototherapy. These treatments integrate with Turkey's sunny climate. The climate provides natural UV light that helps manage skin cell growth.

  • Specialist expertise: Professors like Dr Sevilay Oguz Kilic provide specialised dermatological diagnosis and care.
  • Clinical diagnostics: Facilities perform complex dermatological testing, including immunograms and blood hormonal profiles.
  • Hospital variety: Options range from Istanbul megacentres to seaside facilities like Memorial Antalya Hospital.
  • International standards: Leading clinics hold JCI accreditation for high-quality safety protocols for foreign patients.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Many seek out Istanbul for its specialists. However, Antalya is the strategic choice for psoriasis. Memorial Antalya Hospital offers JCI-accredited medical protocols and immediate access to salt water and controlled sun exposure. This combination acts as a natural therapy. It often extends the results of clinical treatments like phototherapy.

Patient Consensus: Patients find that Turkish doctors focus on relevant tests without over-prescribing. They note that sunshine helps. But managing local diet and documenting skin patterns is vital for success.

What are the side effects of psoriasis treatments in Turkey?

Psoriasis treatments in Turkey involve monitoring by specialists to manage side effects typical of international standards. Modern biologics often report minimal issues, while systemic drugs require blood tests. Turkish dermatologists use step-up protocols to prevent skin thinning from topicals and manage light-therapy risks like itching.

  • Biologic monitoring: Modern biologics such as Tremfya or Taltz typically report very high clarity.
  • Systemic medication: Methotrexate or cyclosporine require regular blood tests for liver and kidney function.
  • Phototherapy effects: Light-based treatments may cause short-term redness or itching similar to mild sunburn.
  • Topical safety: Dermatologists use phased application to prevent skin thinning (atrophy) from long-term steroid use.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish centres like Liv Hospital Ulus and Memorial Şişli handle complex cases from over 160 countries. Data shows these academic facilities prioritise multidisciplinary tumour boards for inflammatory cases. This means specialists like Prof. Dr Sevilay Oguz Kilic coordinate across departments to manage medication interactions.

Patient Consensus: Patients note that modern biologics in Turkey provide excellent clarity. These treatments have minimal side effects compared to older systemic drugs. They often highlight that Turkish sunlight helps natural healing. However, they warn that stopping treatments abruptly can cause plaques to return.

Is the Fish Spa treatment in Turkey (Kangal) effective for psoriasis?

Ichthyotherapy at the Kangal Fish Spring is a medically supervised therapeutic protocol. It is recognised by the Turkish Ministry of Health for managing psoriasis symptoms through exfoliation. Success relies on a combination of mineral-rich thermal water, ultraviolet exposure, and Garra rufa fish removing skin scales.

  • Thermal water benefits: High selenium and sulfur levels help soothe inflamed skin during the soak.
  • Treatment duration: Clinical improvements typically require a 21-day program for maximum effectiveness.
  • Legitimate medical status: The Kangal facility operates as a supervised medical thermal health centre.
  • Specific fish species: Garra rufa and Cyprinion macrostomus gently remove scales without harming healthy skin.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While Kangal is famous for its fish, modern clinics in Istanbul like Anadolu Medical Center or Medipol Mega University Hospital offer complex dermatological diagnosis. High-definition Doppler sonography and immunograms help tailor medical treatments. Patients can combine these with or use them instead of traditional spa methods.

Patient Consensus: Patients find the natural Turkish hot springs relaxing but warn that the fish primarily provide exfoliation rather than a permanent cure. Many travellers recommend combining these trips with professional medical consultations in Istanbul. This helps manage the underlying condition effectively.

Do Turkish hospitals offer biologics for psoriasis?

Turkish hospitals provide biological therapies for moderate to severe psoriasis at JCI-accredited facilities. Specialists at centres such as Medipol Mega and Anadolu Medical Center offer targeted injections like adalimumab, ustekinumab, and etanercept. Treatment follows a comprehensive dermatological diagnosis to determine suitability for international patients.

  • Specialist expertise: Professor Sevilay Oguz Kilic at Liv Hospital specialises in psoriasis and biological treatments.
  • Diagnostics: Doctors use immunograms and complex blood profiles to tailor specific biological therapy protocols.
  • Clinical standards: Major centres like Memorial Sisli Hospital maintain JCI and ISO quality certifications.
  • Patient volume: Medipol Mega serves over 1,000,000 patients annually with a dedicated dermatology department.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish dermatology departments often facilitate faster access to biologics than Australian systems. While Australian patients may face long waiting lists for PBS-subsidised biologics, Turkish centres like Anadolu Medical Center provide immediate specialist reviews. This allows patients to begin therapy within days of their initial diagnostic blood tests.

Patient Consensus: Patients note that Turkish specialists perform thorough assessments including regular blood and urine monitoring for safety during intensive therapy. Experience in Turkey highlights that biologics often clear skin rapidly. This occurs after previous treatments like light therapy or methotrexate have failed.

Are the clinics authorised for international patients for psoriasis treatment in Turkey?

Turkish clinics are fully authorised for international psoriasis patients. Leading centres like Anadolu Medical Center and Medipol Mega University Hospital hold JCI accreditation. This means they follow global safety standards. Specialists offer targeted care, including biological injections, narrowband UVB phototherapy, and systemic medications for effective management.

  • Accredited facilities: Memorial Şişli and Anadolu Medical Center hold JCI and ISO certifications.
  • Expert dermatologists: Prof. Dr Sevilay Oguz Kilic specialises in psoriasis and chronic inflammatory diseases.
  • Advanced diagnostics: Clinics use immunograms and complex dermatological testing to tailor treatment plans.
  • International support: Liv Hospital Ulus provides dedicated teams for interpretation and travel logistics.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many Australian patients look for standard phototherapy, Turkish academic clinics often integrate advanced systemic protocols. Medipol Mega University Hospital serves 1,000,000 patients annually. This massive case volume means their dermatologists, such as Prof. Dr Sevilay Oguz Kilic, have experience with exceptionally rare or resistant psoriasis variants that smaller clinics rarely see.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey find the medical staff professional and appreciate getting only necessary tests. Many note that having a reliable translator makes the clinical experience much smoother.

What are the best treatments for psoriasis available in Turkey?

Turkey offers psoriasis treatments combining clinically proven medical therapies with unique natural approaches. JCI-accredited clinics in Istanbul and Antalya provide biological injections. They also offer narrowband UVB phototherapy and specialised systemic medications. Specialists also offer innovative stem cell therapies and exosome treatments for chronic inflammatory dermatological conditions.

  • Biological therapies: Targeted injections like adalimumab focus on immune pathways for severe cases.
  • Phototherapy: Targeted narrowband UVB laser treatments effectively clear stubborn skin plaques.
  • Specialised medications: Specialists prescribe methotrexate, cyclosporine, and calcineurin inhibitors for flares.
  • Natural integration: Thermal mineral water and Sivas Kangal fish therapy gently remove scales.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish dermatology departments often integrate regenerative medicine with standard protocols. Clinics like Liv Hospital Ulus and Medipol Mega offer stem cell and exosome therapies. They also provide biological treatments. This dual approach is rare in standard clinical settings. It can be vital for patients not responding to traditional steroids or light therapy.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey highlight the effectiveness of biological therapies for severe patches. They also value practical touches like professional interpreters and airport transfers. These simplify the medical journey.

Is there a waiting list for psoriasis treatment in Turkey?

Patients face no significant waiting lists for psoriasis treatment in Turkey. Private medical centres in Istanbul and Antalya provide immediate access to specialist dermatologists. Cases are typically reviewed within 48 hours. Most patients begin diagnosis and intensive therapy within days of their initial inquiry.

  • Specialist access: Leading dermatologists like Prof. Dr Sevilay Oguz Kilic often provide consultations within days.
  • Clinical volume: Anadolu Medical Center serves 65,000+ patients annually, maintaining high capacity for new cases.
  • Diagnostic speed: Clinics quickly perform blood tests, immunograms, and skin analysis to start treatment plans.
  • Accredited facilities: Most major centres, including Memorial Sisli Hospital, hold JCI accreditation for quality standards.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While public systems elsewhere involve months of waiting, Turkish private hospitals operate at massive scales. Medipol Mega University Hospital serves 1,000,000 patients annually. This vast infrastructure allows specialists to accommodate international patients without delays. Choosing a multidisciplinary hospital like Hisar Hospital Intercontinental means that associated conditions are handled in one visit. For example, psoriatic arthritis is treated by orthopaedic teams.

Patient Consensus: Patients are often impressed by the coordinators’ quick response and the doctors’ professionalism. They note that translators are reliable. Clinical staff avoid unnecessary tests, focusing only on relevant diagnostic methods for Turkey-based treatment.

How long do I need to stay in Turkey for psoriasis treatment?

Psoriasis patients typically stay in Turkey for 3 to 7 days. This covers hospital consultations and starting systemic treatment. Intensive clinical programs designed for significant symptom reduction usually require 21 days. Natural coastal therapies often show visible skin clearance within 10 to 14 days.

  • Hospital consultation: Specialists like Dr Sevilay Oguz Kilic conduct diagnostic reviews within 1–3 days.
  • Intensive programs: Clinics such as Memorial Sisli provide 21-day inpatient protocols for severe cases.
  • Diagnostic speed: Major centres like Hisar Hospital perform complex dermatological staging within 48 hours.
  • Clinical follow-up: Hospitals often arrange remote monitoring via video after the initial 7-day visit.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish dermatology clinics like Medipol Mega often process 1,000,000 patients annually. This massive volume allows professors to see rare psoriasis variants every week. They often start systemic biologics within days, which is much faster than waiting lists in Australia. For the best balance, choose an Istanbul clinic with JCI accreditation for high safety standards.

Patient Consensus: Patients find that a 10-day trip to the Mediterranean coast provides a significant boost. They note that daily sea swimming and controlled sun exposure help clear scales quickly. While not a permanent cure, the saltwater and UV rays act as a natural reset for the immune system. Most appreciate the professional translators like Babadjan who help navigate hospital appointments smoothly.
