I wholeheartedly recommend them—and the hospital—without hesitation
I can’t thank Professor Sezer Sağlam and our guide Aliçer enough for the incredible care they showed during our visit to Florence Nightingale Hospital. I was very worried about the trip and my mum’s consultation, especially after a previous bad experience at another hospital where we were constantly pushed to upsell unnecessary scans. At Florence Nightingale, there was none of that—everything was professional, honest, and focused on what my mum actually needed. Their kindness, attentiveness, and guidance turned a stressful experience into one where we truly felt cared for. I wholeheartedly recommend them—and the hospital—without hesitation.

The hospital has no good travel connections About 3 times we have been struggling to get a taxi for me and my mother after 6 pm, my mother is 80 years old and she had waited for 2 hours to get a taxi, I spoke with the international office without any help Some areas in the hospital does not have AC They don’t have a real sense of Multidisciplinary meeting My understanding of MDM is that the consultants meet together Take the decision and and pass it to the patient by one of them rather than the patient moves from one consultant to another Without clear outcome

Expert Overview about Sarcoma Treatment in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What are the primary treatment methods available in Turkey for sarcoma?

Sarcoma treatment in Turkey utilizes a multidisciplinary approach focused on limb-sparing surgery, precision radiation, and personalized systemic therapies. JCI-accredited centers in Istanbul and Antalya follow international protocols from ESMO and NCCN. Specialized surgeons prioritize tumor removal while preserving maximum mobility and function.

  • Surgical interventions: Surgeons perform complex limb-sparing procedures and bone resections with prosthetic reconstruction.
  • Radiation techniques: Facilities use MR Linac, CyberKnife, and TrueBeam for precise tumor targeting.
  • Systemic therapy: Options include chemotherapy, targeted therapy with iImatinib, and advanced cancer immunotherapy.
  • Diagnostic precision: Clinics employ AI-supported 3 Tesla MRI, digital PET/CT, and specialized histopathology.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data reveals that top Turkish oncology centers are highly integrated. For example, Memorial Göztepe Hospital houses complex diagnostic tools like 512-slice CT alongside surgical robotics. This concentration of technology allows patients to move from biopsy to a chest wall resection package, which may cost around $21,000, without changing facilities. This seamless transition is critical for aggressive sarcomas where treatment delays must be avoided.

Patient Consensus: Patients value the honesty and professional guidance of the medical staff, noting they feel truly cared for without being pushed into unnecessary tests. While some mention logistical challenges with local transport, they emphasize that doctors are knowledgeable and the clean, well-equipped facilities provide a sense of security.

What success rates do Turkish centers report for sarcoma treatment?

Turkish oncology centers report a general success rate of approximately 85% for sarcoma treatment. Specialized surgical efficacy ranges between 85% and 90%. Recent studies from leading tertiary hospitals indicate that roughly 70% of patients achieve long-term remission through multidisciplinary care protocols.

  • Soft tissue survival: Locally advanced cases show a 5-year survival rate of approximately 72%.
  • Ewing sarcoma: Localized adult patients reach a 5-year survival rate of 64%.
  • Immunotherapy response: Rare advanced tumors show a 63.2% disease control rate using immunotherapy.
  • Surgical outcomes: Radical surgery yields median survival of 37 months versus 22 for conservative.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Success rates in Turkey are closely tied to the density of multidisciplinary specialists. Anadolu Medical Center maintains a partnership with Johns Hopkins Medicine to align with American treatment standards. Surgeons like Dr. Onder Ofluoglu specialize specifically in orthopedic oncology and have performed thousands of procedures. Choosing a center with these specific credentials often leads to more precise tumor resections and better long-term outcomes.

Patient Consensus: Patients note it is important to confirm surgeon case counts personally to ensure complete tumor removal. Many emphasize that having professional coordinators and translators makes the complex treatment process feel much more manageable.

How quickly can treatment start after arrival in Turkey?

Sarcoma treatment in Turkey typically begins within 24 to 48 hours after arrival. Private JCI-accredited hospitals in Istanbul eliminate waiting lists for international patients. Immediate consultations with specialists like Prof. Dr. Bulent Karagoz ensure diagnostic confirmations and treatment starts fast.

  • Initial consultation: Meeting with an oncologist usually happens within 24 hours of arrival.
  • Diagnostic phase: PET-CT scans and histopathology revisions are completed in 1 to 2 days.
  • Treatment commencement: Chemotherapy or radiation often begins immediately after the final multidisciplinary review.
  • Surgical scheduling: Complex sarcoma surgeries are often booked within 3 to 5 days.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Coordination speed often depends on the pathology review. Centers like Anadolu Medical Center frequently request original biopsy blocks be sent ahead of the patient. This allows their laboratory to start the 48-hour histopathology revision before you even land in Istanbul.

Patient Consensus: Patients note that the speed of the process is surprising. Many mention having their first scan just hours after the VIP airport transfer dropped them at the hospital.

Who are the leading specialists for sarcoma treatment in Turkey?

Turkey excels in sarcoma care through high-volume centers in Istanbul. Leading specialists emphasize multi-modal treatment combining precise surgical resection, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy. Most top experts hold certifications from the European Society for Medical Oncology and maintain alliances with prestigious American institutions.

  • Medical oncology: Prof. Dr. Bulent Karagoz focuses on tumor biology and advanced immunotherapy.
  • Precision medicine: Prof. Dr. Yesim Yildirim provides ESMO-certified targeted therapies for complex sarcomas.
  • Surgical oncology: Dr. Serkan Keskin manages systemic chemotherapy and specialized targeted treatment protocols.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data shows that Memorial Health Group and Anadolu Medical Center frequently offer specialized chest wall resection packages around $21,000. These comprehensive programs often include 3D-printed prosthesis reconstruction. This high level of specialization is rare outside of academic hospital settings.

Patient Consensus: Patients note it's important to confirm the hospital's logistics like taxi access and air conditioning. Many recommend Prof. Dr. Sezer Saglam for providing professional, honest consultations without unnecessary upsells.

Which hospitals are considered best for sarcoma care in Turkey?

These high-volume centers often have specialized sarcoma boards. They use these boards to review complex cases collectively. This ensures various experts approve your remote treatment plan before you arrive.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize having all digital imaging and pathology reports ready to avoid delays. They note that professional guidance helps navigate the initial stress of remote reviews.

What support services are provided for international patients?

Turkish JCI-accredited hospitals provide comprehensive support for international sarcoma patients. Hisar Hospital Intercontinental was specifically recognized by Bookimed patients for outstanding international services in 2019. High-volume centers like Anadolu Medical Center or Medipol Mega leverage their massive capacity to provide dedicated hotel options just 10 minutes from the hospital. This integration helps patients avoid the local traffic challenges common in Istanbul.

Patient Consensus: Patients note it is important to check if the hospital can arrange taxis, as local transport can be difficult for older family members. Reviews highlight that having a personal guide makes consultations much less stressful compared to hospitals that push unnecessary tests.
