We really liked the Physiomer hospital, it is very cozy and comfortable here. A big plus for the team, especially Melih, he helped us a lot on organizational issues. The physiotherapists are very patient and kind. Hussein and Zhannan are the best in their business. We have been choosing places where they can help us for a long time and we were not mistaken in choosing Physiomer, our little one was happy to work with this team.

The Head Doctor is a great person with humility and patience to treat his patients well
Please check your facts as the hospital is very expensive for Turkey. However, very good facilities, most staff are committed and know their jobs well. The Head Doctor is a great person with humility and patience to treat his patients well. However, I am not aware of who is behind him and may influence some decisions. The facility should invest and innovate more. There are not enough staff and the patient’s progress suffered as a result. High turnover rate. I am quite surprised that the management team or main representative never once visited my family member, a long-term patient. Some nurses need to be trained as they lack essential customer service skills. Overall, good hospital with quality infrastructure and amenities. In this rehabilitation block, the patient rooms are mostly small and the bed-chair is very uncomfortable for long-term attendants. I would recommend the Hospital of course! We had a good experience despite few setbacks. Most problems were addressed professionally but the truth has to be told. It took some personal time and energy and the quality standards need to be there. We are not dealing with retail but health and you cannot expect your patients not to be demanding when they spend/pay a lot for medical care in Turkey.
Communication and goal sharing. Compassionate and well experienced. Very nice and seems knowledgeable. Speaks English well, problem-solver!
Ratings of hospital services. Recommendations and follow-up with hospital management on patient issues. Most contacts at the hospital are junior staff and problems not solved critically.

FAQ about Bobath therapy in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What is Bobath therapy and what neurological conditions does it treat?

Bobath therapy, or Neuro-Developmental Treatment (NDT), is an intensive, hands-on physiotherapy approach focused on neuroplasticity to reorganize the brain after injury. It treats neurological conditions including cerebral palsy, stroke, traumatic brain injury, and multiple sclerosis by normalizing muscle tone and facilitating natural movement patterns.

  • Treatment focus: Retrains the central nervous system to recover lost motor functions and postural control.
  • Core conditions: Primarily addresses cerebral palsy, stroke recovery, Parkinson disease, and spinal cord injuries.
  • Therapeutic techniques: Guided manual handling reduces spasticity without relying on compensatory movements from unaffected limbs.
  • Program structure: Intensive options often include 3 hours of daily therapy over a 6-day stay.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many standard clinics offer general physiotherapy, specialized centers like Fizyomer Terapia report a 98% success rate for stroke and cerebral palsy patients through intensive 3-hour daily sessions. This volume-heavy approach, served by teams with 20+ years of experience, often yields faster results than the typical 1-hour weekly sessions found in many Western outpatient settings.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize that practitioner skill determines success, advising others to verify formal certification before travel. While early intervention within 6 months of injury is most effective, consistent long-term work is necessary to maintain functional gains.

Is Bobath therapy safe, and who is qualified to deliver it in Turkey?

Bobath therapy is a safe, hands-on neurological rehabilitation method widely practiced in Turkey. It carries no reported clinical complications when delivered by certified specialists. Success rates reach 98% for stroke and cerebral palsy patients at specialized centers like Fizyomer Terapia, which utilize international Joint Commission International standards.

  • Qualified practitioners: Only physiotherapists, occupational, or speech therapists with postgraduate specialization may practice.
  • Certification requirements: Practitioners must complete a 320-hour Basic Bobath Course recognized by European authorities.
  • Regulatory oversight: The Bobath Therapists Association in Ankara provides scientific support for pediatric professionals.
  • Facility standards: Leading institutions like Medipol Mega and Memorial Hospitals maintain rigorous JCI accreditation.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many Turkish clinics offer physical therapy, elite centers like Fizyomer Terapia provide intensive 3-hour daily sessions. This volume significantly exceeds standard rehabilitation protocols. Their 24-year history and specialized pediatric focus often result in better motor function outcomes for complex neurological cases.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize the importance of verifying the therapist’s specific Bobath certification (TFOD or IBITA) before starting. While generally safe, some report minor muscle soreness, highlighting the need to monitor tolerance during initial intensive sessions.

How many sessions will I need and what happens during a typical session?

Bobath therapy in Turkey typically requires 20 to 60 sessions for noticeable progress, often performed 2 to 3 times weekly over 3 to 12 months. Each 45 to 90-minute session involves therapist-led movement correction and hands-on guidance to facilitate normal movement patterns.

  • Session structure: Therapists assess abnormal postures before starting facilitated rolling, crawling, or reaching exercises.
  • Intensive options: Programs like those at Fizyomer Terapia provide 3 hours of daily therapy.
  • Therapist role: Specialists mirror normal movements while supporting limbs to reduce compensation and patterns.
  • Home integration: Clinics provide movement homework videos to ensure progress continues between clinical visits.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data from top Turkish centers shows a 98% success rate for neurological patients when Bobath is part of an intensive, multi-hour daily regimen. While single sessions are available, the 1-week intensive packages at specialized centers like Fizyomer Terapia offer better value by bundling 18 to 20 hours of therapy into a single stay.

Patient Consensus: Many find that progress feels gradual until reaching about 20 sessions, where sustained movement gains become clearer. Regular breaks every 10 to 15 sessions are often recommended to prevent fatigue-related regression.

What results and improvements can patients realistically expect?

Patients undergoing Bobath therapy in Turkey can realistically expect significant functional gains, improved muscle tone management, and increased independence in daily activities. Success rates for neurological rehabilitation reach 98% at specialized centers like Fizyomer Terapia, focusing on neuroplasticity to enhance long-term motor control.

  • Functional mobility: Improved gait, balance, and arm function, especially within 3–6 months post-stroke.
  • Muscle tone: Effective reduction in abnormal tension and prevention of painful joint contractures.
  • Daily independence: Enhanced ability to perform self-care tasks, household chores, and workplace movements.
  • Recovery timeline: Noticeable changes typically appear after 8–16 weeks of consistent, intensive sessions.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish clinics often provide more intensive protocols than standard Western outpatient care. While many programs offer 1-hour sessions, centers like Fizyomer Terapia provide 3-hour daily intensives. This high-volume approach can accelerate motor learning and deliver results faster for international patients on a limited stay.

Patient Consensus: Focus on movement quality and `small wins` rather than a total neurological cure. Consistency outside therapist sessions is the most critical factor for maintaining these physical improvements.

What should I pack and is accommodation near the clinic available?

Pack loose, comfortable athletic wear like sweatpants and t-shirts for intensive 3–6 hour daily sessions. Turkish clinics like Fizyomer Terapia provide on-site 4-star hotel or apartment options, while major centers in Istanbul offer specialized patient rates at nearby JCI-accredited facilities.

  • Clothing essentials: Pack moisture-wicking layers and non-slip shoes or rehab-specific orthotics.
  • Electronic needs: Include Type F power adapters and long charging cables for tablets.
  • On-site lodging: Specialized centers often bundle 7-day 4-star hotel stays into therapy packages.
  • Budget options: Dorm-style on-site housing typically costs between $20 and $50 per night.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many think Istanbul is the only option, Fizyomer Terapia in Eskisehir serves over 10,000 patients annually with all-inclusive 6-day bundles. These packages often prove more efficient as they eliminate commute times, which is vital when managing 3-hour intensive daily sessions.

Patient Consensus: Travelers recommend using duffel bags for easier taxi transfers and bringing noise-canceling headphones for rest between sessions. Most suggest booking accommodation directly through the clinic to ensure the closest proximity for early morning schedules.
