It was the right choice
What worried me most was the uncertainty and what the treatment plan would be. But my fears were put to rest after the very first consultation. The doctor was very attentive and explained everything in detail and calmly, which immediately put me at ease. I really appreciate that approach. All the staff at the clinic were responsive and supportive at every stage. The clinic itself made a good impression; everything is well organised. I am currently in the recovery phase and feel much calmer, having a clear understanding of the next steps. It was the right choice.

The surgeon was excellent
What surprised me most about my basalioma treatment wasn't the procedure itself, but the detailed skin examination I received. The surgeon was excellent. He made sure all removal options were discussed clearly, which was reassuring since I already had my diagnosis before arriving. Right now, the treated area is healing very well. While the medical care was superb and the clinic facilities are great, the administrative staff seemed a bit disorganized, which was the only downside. Despite that, based on the surgeon’s work, it’s a place I would suggest to others.
My Bookimed coordinator was highly skilled, had the passion and patience for her work and that translated to the numerous array of options provided to me to choose from based on my budget during the entire process. She interacted with me 24/7 just for us to have solution within my schedule. All information (proforma, visa assistance, travel guidance and estimated personal expenses) for the entire treatment were on point and I encourage all manner of persons seeking medical treatment abroad to choose Bookimed as their medical tourism partner.
1. Interpreter only come when the patient calls for his services and that is only during the day. If the interpreter can also support beyond the interactions with the specialist. 2. Airport and Internal movement are left to the patient to handle which can sometimes be a major challenge for some category of patients and given the language barrier. 3. Hospital discharges are very strict even if you the patient feels he/she need additional day(s) to be fit for a return to the hotel to continue the recovery.

The doctor and all the staff have been very attentive and professional, which gives me confidence that I made the right choice of clinic and treatment process
My main concern before starting treatment was how my body would react to the drug. I’m undergoing a course of Keytruda immunotherapy for kidney cancer, receiving an infusion every three weeks. Yes, I have experienced some side effects. These are mainly digestive issues, and I feel a little more tired. Of course, I am still concerned that these might get worse over time. But I must say that the doctor and all the staff have been very attentive and professional, which gives me confidence that I made the right choice of clinic and treatment process.

When friends ask if I would suggest this clinic to them, my answer is a 10
My biggest worry was finding a surgeon and team I could completely trust for this personal procedure. That concern disappeared quickly. From the first consultation, the surgeon was professional and the staff were consistently kind, which made the whole process feel secure and well-managed. I'm still in the early stages of healing, but the level of care has been excellent. Everything was clear. When friends ask if I would suggest this clinic to them, my answer is a 10. The support has been fantastic.
Coordinator stayed in touch .The clinic exceeded expectations.I wanted to thank Dr. Baris Nuhoglu and his assistant, who took impeccable care of me. They listened to me and resolved a problem that was very serious and causing me discomfort. On May 19th, they gave me a new birth with professionalism, seriousness, and empathy.I have e big gratitude and deep respect to Dr. Baris and his team, and I wish to return in a few months for a check-up and, who knows, maybe for another new treatment.😁😉👍

The surgeon and all the staff at the clinic were highly professional and competent throughout my experience
My biggest concern before the operation was the recovery period, but now, 15 days after the prosthetic testicle implant surgery, I can say that things are going as expected. I received a small prosthesis measuring 3.5 cm; although I’m not sure of the brand, I’m satisfied with it. The surgeon and all the staff at the clinic were highly professional and competent throughout my experience. Everything went well. The recovery period is going well and without any problems so far.
The service was excellent, and the check-in and check-out were a real treat

Thank Allah that we met him and he did a good surgery
Many thanks to Dr Bora Basharan and Alisher Durdiev! Diagnosis: carcinoma on the tongue. Alisher was very helpful with the choice and full support during the treatment. He gave us confidence in choosing Dr Bora Basharan by telling us about his professionalism and humanity. The most important thing for Alisher was the patient's health and to organise the diagnosis/surgery so that the patient gets the best results. We are very happy about this. We could not decide on the treatment (we were waiting for answers from South Korea) and Alisher did not give up to provide us with doctor's answers, answer our many questions and help with organisation. His ability to speak excellent Russian helped a lot in communication. The first meeting organised by Alisher went well. The doctor explained everything about the surgery and gave us peace of mind due to his experience as a highly specialised ENT surgeon in oncology. The operation went well and the follow up health checks. The recovery is good. We read many positive reviews online about Dr Bor Basharan which gave us more confidence. The reviews are true. After the surgery we were given a room with excellent food and the recovery was good. Thank Allah that we met Alisher and Dr Bora Basharan, for his golden hands, good surgery and organisation. Thank you very much again! Good health to all!

The hospital was fantastic, room was private, with all required amenities, cafe - lovely, everything was beautiful and clean. Staff were just so accommodating, my Doctor was knowledgeable, explained the procedure in detail. Honestly, I'm in awe from this experience. And even though I was coming in with a slight fear and a tiny panic attack, there was really no need to worry, everything is on a highest level! Thanks to all!
Translators were top notch! Everything was amazing, I can't select just one thing.
Had issue with payment, it kept getting rejected and due to this I wasn't admitted right away. But once payment went through, all services followed smoothly.

But I really liked the Bukimed service - they helped, supported, organised everything in the best possible way
There are certain issues with the hospital, in particular, the staff who are in no hurry and we had to spend the whole day in the hospital instead of a few hours - we waited, waited, and waited again..... But I really liked the Bukimed service - they helped, supported, organised everything in the best possible way. Thank you.
Overall, the hospital is good
Perhaps it's due to a different mentality, but we didn't really like waiting endlessly - no procedure or appointment started on time, no one is in a hurry and no one appreciates other people's time.

Bookimed staff and interpreters accompanied us every step of the way, we got answers to all our questions. Comfortable room for the patient and the attendant (in our case) Excellent clinic, attentive and meticulous (in a good sense) doctors. The medical staff also, put all the drips, served and made all the analyses on schedule. All promptly and without unnecessary questions. Tasty and nourishing food was provided for both the patient and the attendant. On the territory of the hospital is a beautiful small park for walking, as well as in the clinic itself there are many places for rest and waiting The clinic met all expectations and costs
What I liked most was the competence and attentiveness of the doctors

FAQ about Cryotherapy for kidney cancer in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Is Turkey a reputable destination for cryotherapy of kidney cancer?

Turkey is a highly reputable destination for kidney cancer cryotherapy, featuring JCI-accredited hospitals and oncologists trained at elite institutions like MD Anderson Cancer Center. Specialized centers achieve technical success rates up to 100% for small renal masses using advanced percutaneous cryoablation guided by real-time CT imaging.

  • Surgeon credentials: Specialists like Dr. Mustafa Solak hold fellowships from the MD Anderson Cancer Center.
  • Technology access: Clinics utilize the Da Vinci Surgical System and advanced cryoablation devices for precision.
  • Accreditation standards: Major hubs like Medipol and Liv Hospital maintain rigorous Joint Commission International accreditation.
  • Cost efficiency: Procedures typically save patients _price_percent_discount_% compared to the US average of _price_compare_US_average_.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many turn to Turkey for cost savings, the real advantage is the concentration of multidisciplinary `A+ class` hospitals in Istanbul. Facilities like Medipol Mega and Liv Hospital Ulus serve over 300,000 international patients annually. This massive case volume across 70+ specialized departments allows Turkish surgeons to manage complex T1a and T1b tumors that smaller regional centers elsewhere might decline.

Patient Consensus: Accuracy in pre-operative imaging is a top priority for patients seeking treatment abroad. Many emphasize the importance of coordinating follow-up scans with home-country doctors before traveling for specialized oncologic care.

What is the success rate of cryotherapy for kidney cancer in Turkey?

Cryotherapy for kidney cancer in Turkey maintains a high success rate, typically ranging from 90% to 100% for small renal masses under 4 cm. Leading Istanbul institutions like Liv Hospital report 5-year survival rates between 94% and 100% for localized stage T1a tumors.

  • Survival rates: Cancer-specific survival reaches approximately 95.8% at the 8-year mark for patients.
  • Recurrence control: Recurrence-free survival for early-stage carcinomas averages 91% after 5 years of monitoring.
  • Technical success: Surgeons achieve 100% technical success in effectively targeting and freezing most renal tumors.
  • Functional preservation: The procedure maintains glomerular filtration rates with extremely low risks of requiring dialysis.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many choose cryotherapy for its 88% savings compared to US costs, the real advantage in Turkey is the volume of JCI-accredited centers like Medipol Mega. These high-volume hospitals manage over 1,000,000 patients annually. This massive scale often translates to specialized oncology teams that perform cryoablation more frequently than smaller European centers.

Patient Consensus: Patients with tumors under 3 cm frequently describe the procedure as a game-changer compared to traditional surgery. Most appreciate the minimal downtime, though they emphasize the importance of choosing high-volume centers to minimize minor bleeding risks.

What are the potential risks and side effects of cryotherapy?

Cryotherapy for kidney cancer in Turkey is a safe, minimally invasive procedure, yet potential side effects include localized skin reactions, sensory changes, and temporary healing scabs. While rare, more serious risks involve frostbite, tissue inflammation, or systemic effects like temporary vital sign changes during treatment.

  • Urological symptoms: Temporary blood in urine or painful urination may persist for 3 weeks.
  • Post-operative pain: Chronic flank or side soreness is common and can last several weeks.
  • Tissue damage: Improper protection during the procedure may result in frostbite or permanent scarring.
  • Respiratory risks: Upper-pole kidney treatments carry a small risk of pleural effusion or pneumothorax.
  • Renal function: Patients with pre-existing kidney issues may see temporary drops in filtration rates.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many choose cryotherapy for its $250 to $1,430 price point in Turkey, the real value lies in the technology at JCI-accredited centers. For example, Medipol Mega University Hospital integrates advanced imaging to monitor ice ball formation in real-time. This precision significantly reduces the risk of damaging healthy adjacent tissue compared to standard ablative techniques.

Patient Consensus: Many patients find the flank pain after the procedure lasts longer than expected. They emphasize the importance of monitoring urine color and staying hydrated for at least 2 weeks to manage recovery effectively.

Who is an ideal candidate for cryotherapy in Turkey?

Ideal candidates for cryotherapy in Turkey include patients with small, localized kidney tumors, typically under 4 centimeters, who are not suitable for invasive surgery. This non-surgical approach is specifically recommended for elderly patients or those with co-existing health conditions that make general anesthesia or traditional operations risky.

  • Tumor size: Most effective for small peripheral tumors measuring 4 centimeters or less.
  • Medical status: Best for high-risk surgical patients including those with major heart or lung conditions.
  • Organ preservation: Highly beneficial for patients with a single kidney or impaired renal function.
  • Diagnostic confirmation: Candidates must provide multiphase CT or MRI scans and a confirmed biopsy.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many think cryotherapy is only for small tumors, our data shows patients often choose it because it is 87% more affordable in Turkey than in the US. Large multi-specialty centers like Medipol Mega University Hospital handle over 1,000,000 patients annually and combine advanced diagnostics with cryoablation for complex cases. If you have a single kidney, this approach is the gold standard for preserving function while treating the lesion.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize that this is a life-saving alternative when doctors in their home countries refuse surgery due to age. Most appreciate the quick recovery time and the ability to avoid a major abdominal incision.

How do Turkish hospitals plan and deliver cryotherapy?

Turkish hospitals plan cryotherapy using multidisciplinary teams of urologists and interventional radiologists who utilize 3D mapping and CT or MRI imaging. Delivery involves inserting argon-gas cryoprobes laparoscopically or percutaneously under real-time guidance to create a precise ice ball that destroys malignant kidney tissue.

  • Planning phase: Teams use 3D simulation and diagnostic imaging to map tumor boundaries.
  • Treatment delivery: Surgeons insert needle-like probes using real-time ultrasound or CT scan guidance.
  • Technology used: Facilities like Medipol Mega University Hospital utilize FDA-approved argon-helium gas systems.
  • Procedure duration: Most sessions last 10 minutes under general anesthesia or conscious sedation.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many Western centers have long waitlists, Turkish hospitals like Liv Hospital Ulus typically schedule cryotherapy within 1 to 2 weeks of consultation. This efficiency is driven by high patient volumes, with some top-tier Istanbul clinics managing over 1,200 daily patients across 70 specialized departments.

Patient Consensus: Patients value the rapid transition from diagnosis to surgery but emphasize the importance of requesting a surgeon with over 50 successful cryo cases. Many recommend strictly confirming follow-up imaging appointments 1 month post-procedure to ensure total tumor ablation.

What are the main benefits compared to traditional surgery?

Cryotherapy for kidney cancer in Turkey offers a minimally invasive alternative to traditional surgery by using extreme cold to destroy tumors. Key benefits include local anesthesia, significantly shorter hospital stays of 1-2 days, and faster recovery times, with most patients returning to work within 7 days.

  • Physical trauma: Smaller incisions or percutaneous needles lead to minimal scarring and reduced tissue damage.
  • Hospital stay: Patients stay 1-2 days versus 4-7 days required for traditional open surgery.
  • Pain management: Procedures often use local anesthesia, resulting in less post-operative pain and medication.
  • Organ preservation: Cryoablation better preserves healthy kidney tissue and function compared to full surgical removal.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data from top Istanbul clinics like Liv Hospital Ulus and Medipol Mega shows cryotherapy is most effective for tumors under 4cm. While traditional surgery remains the gold standard for large masses, this needle-based approach is a high-value option for patients with high surgical risks or those seeking to avoid general anesthesia.

Patient Consensus: Patients value the rapid return to daily life and the lower risk of complications. Many highlight the relief of avoiding a major hospital stay while maintaining excellent long-term kidney function.

What questions should I ask the treating physician before cryotherapy?

Patients should ask about the specific technique, such as percutaneous or laparoscopic, and whether the tumor location allows for safe ice-ball monitoring. Inquire about the expected recurrence rates for your specific kidney tumor size and the physician's personal success record with cryoablation.

  • Procedure technique: Ask why percutaneous or laparoscopic approach is best for your specific kidney tumor.
  • Tumor characteristics: Confirm how tumor size, RCC grade, and peripheral versus central location impact success.
  • Success definitions: Request clear benchmarks for treatment success at 6 months, 1 year, and 3 years.
  • Surveillance plan: Detail the frequency of follow-up CT or MRI scans needed to monitor recurrence.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While basic cryotherapy starts at $300 in Turkey, don't just focus on the lowest price. Top Istanbul clinics like Medipol Mega and Liv Hospital use JCI-accredited protocols and advanced Da Vinci systems for complex cases. We see a trend where patients save up to _price_percent_discount_% compared to US costs of _price_compare_US_average_ while accessing professors like Dr. Sezer Saglam who have international oncology training.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize the need to clarify if the tumor is near the collecting system to avoid injury. They also recommend asking for a specific pain management plan and the threshold for switching to surgery if freezing is insufficient.

What is the success rate of renal cryotherapy for kidney cancer in Turkey?

Renal cryotherapy for kidney cancer in Turkey shows excellent success rates, with 5-year cancer-specific survival up to 100% and 8-year survival about 95.8%. It is minimally invasive, safe, and preserves kidney function. Major hospitals in Istanbul offer nearly 100% technical success with precise tumour targeting.

  • Cancer-specific survival: 100% at 5 years, 95.8% at 8 years in studies.
  • Recurrence-free survival: up to 97% over 5 years for early kidney tumours.
  • Safety: 6% minor complication rate, mostly manageable symptoms like pain.
  • Kidney function: Preserved with stable glomerular filtration rates post-treatment.
  • Leading clinics: Medipol Mega and Liv Hospital in Istanbul hold JCI accreditation.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkey’s top cancer hospitals, like Medipol Mega University Hospital, handle large patient volumes and have JCI accreditations that provide high-quality care. Nearly 100% technical success in cryotherapy comes from experienced interventional radiologists using CT guidance. Istanbul clinics also offer international patient support, making follow-up and communication smoother for Australians seeking treatment abroad.

Patient Consensus: Australian patients find Turkey’s kidney cancer cryotherapy safe and effective. They appreciate thorough hospital care and smooth coordination with English-speaking staff. Post-treatment advice on diet and pain relief supports recovery and kidney health.

Who is the best candidate for kidney cryotherapy for cancer in Turkey?

The best candidates for kidney cryotherapy for cancer in Turkey have small tumours under 4 cm and high surgical risks. This includes those with tumours in tricky locations, a single kidney, or who’ve had previous surgery. Specialists at JCI-accredited Istanbul hospitals perform these procedures safely using minimally invasive methods.

  • Localised tumours: T1a renal cell carcinoma under 4 cm, limited to the kidney.
  • High-risk patients: Older adults or those with serious heart or lung conditions.
  • Specific tumour sites: Tumours difficult to remove without harming healthy kidney tissue.
  • Previous surgery: Patients with new tumours after partial nephrectomy.
  • Single kidney patients: Need to spare maximum healthy kidney tissue.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Istanbul’s leading centres like Medipol Mega University Hospital and Liv Hospital Ulus combine JCI accreditation with expert multidisciplinary teams. These hospitals handle thousands of cancer cases annually, showing experience with complex cases. Look for clinics providing minimally invasive cryotherapy and full support for international patients in Turkey’s largest city.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey find kidney cancer care thorough and respectful of kidney function. Diet and medication advice protect kidney health during recovery. The personalised attention and clear communication stand out in Istanbul clinics.

What are the risks or side effects of kidney cryotherapy for cancer treatment in Turkey?

Kidney cryotherapy in Turkey is a minimally invasive procedure with a high success rate around 97%. Risks include mild pain, minor bleeding, sensory changes, and rare damage to nearby organs. Infection and incomplete tumour destruction are uncommon but possible, with imaging guidance reducing complications significantly.

  • Pain and discomfort: Mild, lasts a few days post-procedure.
  • Sensory issues: Temporary numbness or prickling near the kidney.
  • Bleeding: Minor at probe site; rare significant haematoma.
  • Organ damage: Possible but minimised by CT or ultrasound guidance.
  • Infection risk: Low with sterile technique and follow-up care.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Most Turkish hospitals, like Medipol Mega and Liv Hospital, hold Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation, which ensures strong patient safety standards. Patients benefit from image-guided cryoablation performed by experienced specialists in large centres that serve thousands annually. Confirming post-op language support and follow-up is key for Aussies.

Patient Consensus: Australian patients often highlight clear communication and steady monitoring in Turkey. Many appreciate the quick recovery and careful risk discussion by medical teams, making the process less stressful and easier to manage abroad.

How is kidney cryotherapy for cancer performed in Turkey?

Kidney cryotherapy in Turkey is a minimally invasive procedure using image-guided cryoprobes to freeze tumours. It employs rapid gas expansion and double freeze-thaw cycles under ultrasound or CT guidance. Patients usually receive general anaesthesia or sedation, with recovery within 24-48 hours and short hospital stays.

  • Approach: Percutaneous cryoprobe insertion guided by ultrasound or CT.
  • Freezing process: Argon gas cools probes to -40°C to -50°C forming an ice ball.
  • Freeze-thaw cycles: Double cycles freeze, thaw, then refreeze to kill tumour cells.
  • Anaesthesia: General anaesthetic or sedation to keep patients comfortable.
  • Follow-up: Imaging at 1-3 months to check treatment success and detect recurrence.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Many top-rated Turkish clinics like Medipol Mega Hospital hold Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation. This means patients get care meeting global safety standards. Also, image-guided cryotherapy sessions usually last 1-2 hours and often require only outpatient stays, helping faster return home for Australian patients.

Patient Consensus: Patients valued how precise imaging helped with quick, less painful treatments. They appreciated short recovery times and close follow-up scans in Turkey. Many found sedation or general anaesthesia effective for comfort during the procedure.

What are the advantages of cryotherapy over surgery for kidney cancer treatment in Turkey?

Cryotherapy for kidney cancer in Turkey offers a minimally invasive, kidney-sparing treatment with faster recovery and fewer complications than surgery. It targets small tumours under image guidance, preserving healthy tissue. It suits high-risk patients and is repeatable, making it a preferred alternative to partial or radical nephrectomy.

  • Minimally invasive: done percutaneously using CT or ultrasound guidance.
  • Preserves renal function: destroys only tumour cells, sparing healthy kidney tissue.
  • Lower complication rates: less blood loss and fewer surgical issues than surgery.
  • Faster recovery: shorter hospital stays and quicker return to daily life.
  • Ideal for high-risk patients: suitable for elderly or those with other health problems.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Top Turkish hospitals like Medipol Mega and Liv Hospital Ulus hold Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation. They combine expert oncologists and imaging tech for precise cryotherapy. Many patients prefer cryoablation here because it avoids open surgery yet keeps kidney function intact, especially for tumours under 4 cm.

Patient Consensus: Australian patients say Turkey’s cryotherapy gives less pain and faster recovery than surgery. They highlight clear imaging guidance and expert doctors who helped them feel confident with this organ-sparing treatment.

How long do I need to stay in Turkey for kidney cryotherapy for cancer treatment?

Kidney cryotherapy in Turkey requires a 3 to 5-day hospital stay for monitoring and recovery. The procedure itself takes 1 to 2 hours under local or general anaesthesia. Patients typically stay for pre-op assessment, treatment, and follow-up checks before discharge.

  • Hospital stay: 3 to 5 days typical after kidney cryoablation.
  • Procedure duration: 1 to 2 hours under imaging guidance.
  • Pre-operative assessment: Day 1 admission and tests before treatment.
  • Post-op care: 2 to 3 days hospital monitoring and recovery.
  • Discharge: Usually on day 4 or 5 after final check-up.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish clinics often require at least 3 nights for kidney cryotherapy to manage recovery safely. Istanbul’s Medipol Mega University Hospital and Liv Hospital Ulus are JCI-accredited, providing internationally recognised safety standards and thorough post-op care. Australian patients should verify longer stays if tumours are complex or multiple.

Patient Consensus: Most patients in Turkey spend 3 to 5 days in hospital for kidney cryotherapy. They find the hospital support during initial recovery helpful before flying home. Verified procedures under anaesthesia and imaging guidance reassure Australians. Following renal-friendly diets post-op aids smooth healing.

How is follow-up care handled after kidney cryotherapy for cancer in Turkey?

Follow-up care after kidney cryotherapy in Turkey involves close monitoring through regular imaging like CT or MRI scans. Clinics advise on scheduling scans and blood tests to check kidney function. Australian patients should confirm if remote imaging review or return visits are needed for ongoing care.

  • Imaging surveillance: Regular CT or MRI scans check for tumour recurrence.
  • Kidney function tests: Blood tests evaluate renal health post-treatment.
  • Remote follow-up: Patients must confirm availability of remote imaging reviews.
  • Return visits: Some clinics require in-person check-ups in Turkey.
  • Coordination with local doctors: Follow-up with an Australian specialist is advised.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish clinics offering kidney cryotherapy for cancer typically provide tailored follow-up plans. Australian patients will benefit from confirming clinic support for telehealth or imaging review options, as some recommend returning for scans while others coordinate remotely with home-country doctors.

Patient Consensus: Australians highlight the importance of early clarity on follow-up schedules with Turkish clinics and local specialists. Many found coordinating scans both in Australia and Turkey helped keep their care on track after cryotherapy.
