The surgeon and the clinic itself were excellent
The possibility of breathing issues was my primary concern going into this. And honestly, that has been the biggest challenge in recovery so far, with one nostril constantly feeling stuffed. My surgeon performed a closed rhinoplasty. Everything is still very swollen along the bridge, but I can already see that my nose tip appears more refined, which is a great sign. The surgeon and the clinic itself were excellent. The general staff were great, though post-op instructions could have been a bit more explicit. I'm satisfied with the medical care I received so far
Dr. Erol is an amazing doctor, his work was amazing he truly listened to my request and expectations and he was really patient and reassuring. The medical assistance team as well, they really took good care of me, they were present when i needed them.
post-op instructions could’ve been explained better

I breath perfectly now after surgery and my nose is a lot straighter
I felt very secure and taken care of through the entire experience. All of my inquiries were answered very promptly by both the bookiemed coordinator, the assistant, and my doctor (Dr. C Altindąg), is very experienced and talked me through what to expect and analyzed my nose very thoroughly. I breath perfectly now after surgery and my nose is a lot straighter (I had a severe deviated septum and other complications from a past surgery that he identified and corrected including a mirgrated graft and a droopy tip). I'm still quite swollen but look forward to seeing final results in a few months.

Right now, I am feeling better than expected
I remember seeing the computer imaging of my new nose during the consultation and feeling confident. My surgeon was very honest about what was realistic, and I appreciated that he personally handled everything from that first meeting to the surgery itself. He performed an open rhinoplasty to reshape my bridge and tip. Right now, I am feeling better than expected. The clinic staff has been great with follow-up; they've stayed in touch, are easy to reach, and gave me a clear aftercare guide. It was also reassuring that there were no additional expenses. If you're wondering what to bring, don't worry—they prepare you for everything, and nothing was missing for me.
Everything was wonderful, we are very satisfied, everyone was helpful and very kind and the results are the best.

But the calmness and poise of the doctor and his team completely dispelled my doubts
I liked everything overall. Initially, I was very afraid, starting with the flight to another country, the transfer to the hotel and the operation itself. But the calmness and poise of the doctor and his team completely dispelled my doubts. 5 hours after the operation I returned to the hotel. Which is also very good because the hospital ward is the worst for me. Exactly after a week I took off the splint, my nose was still swollen. The nose is proportional to my face. When the swelling goes down it will be smaller

To say that I was shocked by the doctor's approach to treatment is to say nothing. My impressions to you, just do not wish to experience. The operation was agreed in advance counselling and my wishes. The day of the operation came. In the morning I was picked up from the hotel and with an interpreter, I went through all the analyses. On the question when I will have a meeting with the doctor I was told at 9 am then I pointed out that I am allergic to one drug. But they wouldn't give me any medication before the operation without the doctor's consent. When I was already changed clothes for the operation ( I apologise myself in underwear, in an operating gown ) came the doctor and began to explain to me on his hands that it can not be like this, as I want and he sees it all differently. He began to explain to me with his fingers how it will be. Interrupting the interpreter. The interpreter couldn't keep up with the translation. Hurrying me to make a decision. I replied that I couldn't make a decision without seeing any pictures of what was waiting for me. Then after about an hour of dialogue, the doctor corrected the curvature of my nose on the telephoto in front of me and said here's what awaits you and covered the tip of my nose with his hand. Again we heard my refusal, to which I was told there is no time and I have to make a decision. They told me there was no time and I had to make a decision. My wishes were ignored. What was agreed upon before the operation was changed. My wishes were to correct the curvature and to change and reduce the tip of the nose. The result of the operation is that the curvature was not corrected and the septum remained the same. But the cartilage was grown on the side, which I did not ask for at all, and the nose was visually enlarged and the tip was corrected. Now I'm just shocked with my appearance to say the least. Everything was done at the discretion of the doctor. He ignored all my wishes. Putting me in front of the fact. Without showing me a single photo of what's in store for me. Explaining it to me on my fingers.

The team were always on hand and helped to sort out any queries quickly, so the whole trip went smoothly, without any unnecessary stress
The consultation and the operation itself were carried out by the same doctor — that was absolutely crucial to me. Using a computer simulation, he showed me in detail what we were aiming to achieve in terms of both breathing and appearance, so I knew exactly what I was getting into. It was a full rhinoplasty using the closed technique. If you’re considering this operation, don’t be afraid to ask about anything that’s on your mind: the team were always on hand and helped to sort out any queries quickly, so the whole trip went smoothly, without any unnecessary stress. I’m still only at the start of my recovery, and it feels pretty much as I expected. It’s reassuring that there were no hidden or additional costs.
I would like to express my immense gratitude to the entire Bookimed team for the impeccable organisation of my trip and treatment. Right from the start, I felt supported, looked after and cared for at every stage. All issues were resolved quickly and professionally. I would like to extend my special thanks to Dr Ilker for his high level of professionalism, attentive care and detailed explanations. A huge thank you to the interpreter, Eliana, for her help, kindness and support throughout the entire process. I would also like to sincerely thank our driver Erkan for his punctuality, ensuring my comfort and his responsiveness. And a special thank you to the coordinating doctor, Ege, for staying in constant contact, providing prompt assistance and excellent organisation. Thanks to your seamless teamwork, I felt calm and confident. I’m delighted to recommend Bookimed and the whole team to anyone looking for high-quality treatment and a high standard of service. Thank you for your care and professionalism! 💚

What I valued most about my surgeon was his honesty; he used computer imaging to show me the expected outcome for my full nose reshaping, which set a clear, achievable goal
My biggest worry was whether the results would be realistic. What I valued most about my surgeon was his honesty; he used computer imaging to show me the expected outcome for my full nose reshaping, which set a clear, achievable goal. The procedure was an open rhinoplasty, and while I’m still healing, my recovery is progressing about as expected. The clinic staff provided great support, staying in touch and giving me a clear aftercare guide. No surprises with costs either. For anyone planning this, I’d recommend bringing a neck pillow, cotton swabs, cleansing wipes, dry mouth spray, and a lip balm. You’ll likely be breathing through your mouth for the first week, so keeping your lips and mouth moisturized makes a big difference.
I had a great experience from start to finish. The entire team was professional, kind, and supportive throughout my facial surgery journey. They made me feel comfortable, answered all my questions, and provided excellent care before and after my procedure. The clinic was clean, well organized, and the follow-up during my recovery has been outstanding. I’m still healing, but I’m very happy with my experience so far and grateful for the care I’ve received.

The consultation with the doctor was the most memorable part of my preparation
The consultation with the doctor was the most memorable part of my preparation. Using computer modelling, he showed me what the result would look like, and explained very clearly what we were aiming for — both in terms of breathing and aesthetics. To correct the bridge and tip of my nose, we opted for a minimally invasive preservation rhinoplasty technique. It’s still too early to assess the final results. I was very pleased with the clinic staff – after the operation, they gave me clear aftercare instructions and stayed in constant contact with me, which was very reassuring. The only downside was that there were additional costs on top of the amount originally paid to the clinic, which is why I’ve given an overall rating of 4 rather than 5.
Good afternoon, I’d like to share my impressions of my first visit to the Lokman HEKiM clinic. The lovely and helpful coordinator was always available. I was given a warm welcome. The reception staff were very friendly. The doctor was marvellous and a true professional. I was completely satisfied with the outcome of the treatment. I would highly recommend this specialist.

The clinic and the surgeon did an excellent job managing my care from the very first consultation, and the staff were consistently supportive
My biggest worry was the recovery process itself—not the final outcome, but the immediate aftermath. I'll be honest, it is challenging. My breathing has been completely blocked, which is an uncomfortable feeling. As expected, my nose is still very swollen, with a bulky tip and a puffy bridge where the minor hump was removed. But I was prepared for this. The clinic and the surgeon did an excellent job managing my care from the very first consultation, and the staff were consistently supportive. Even with the swelling, I am confident in the path forward thanks to their skill. The procedure was done using a closed technique.
Dr eroglu was amazing really reesssuring friendly, I had someone with me for translation and felt very supported. Nurse visits were good and she was also brilliant. Highly reccomend.

Everything went smoothly
My consultation with the surgeon was clearly. He was very honest about the level of breathing improvement I could expect, which I appreciated, and it was reassuring that he personally handled both the initial meeting and my septoplasty with rhinoplasty. I’m still in the early stages of healing, but I'm feeling better than expected. The procedure was done under general anesthesia. The support afterward has been solid; the clinic gave me a clear aftercare guide and the staff has always been easy to reach. It was also a relief that there were no additional expenses beyond what was quoted. Everything went smoothly.
Everything was beyond expectation, from the online support until the day we came back was everything great, no worries about anything, the staff was lovely, the doctor make you feel very comfortable with everything, and translators were really kind. Felt very safe every step of the way.

The results AMAZING!!!! It looks so natural and matches my face perfectly
My nose was large and not an easy case for Dr Cem Altindag to work with. The results AMAZING!!!! It looks so natural and matches my face perfectly. The Dr and his assistant both responded in the middle of the night to a question I sent them after the surgery. That is outstanding care!! I picked Dr Cem because he specializes in noses and is highly rated. I am working to take my daughter there soon for him to work his magic on her nose also. Before and two weeks later pictures! Thank you Dr Cem

I can already see that the tip looks natural, which makes me very happy
My biggest worry was that my nose would look unnatural, but I can already see that the tip looks natural, which makes me very happy. The recovery process itself isn’t easy: my nose is completely blocked, and there’s still severe swelling on the bridge, so the final result isn’t visible yet. But the main thing is that the noticeable bump that was bothering me has been removed. The surgeon and the clinic staff provided excellent support at every stage. For me, it was the right choice.

I got so to say in good hands of a wonderful specialist
Initially there were doubts. But everything went very well. I was met at the airport, then taken to the hotel (I wanted to note that the transport was at the highest level, very comfortable and comfortable). The hotel room was not disappointing either, even better than I expected. The next day the operation took place (brought to the clinic, taken back). I would like to note that I am very grateful for the availability of an interpreter ( the girl is very nice, friendly, very helpful 🙏 ). The operation was successful (I had rhinoplasty), I am also very satisfied with the result. I got so to say in good hands of a wonderful specialist

I'm happy with my nose, the shape is as I wanted, although it's still a little swollen
For a long time I couldn’t decide on this operation, but in the end everything went quickly and conveniently. The price included the hotel and transfer from the airport and back and transfer to the clinic and back. The hotel enters with one more person, I flew with a friend. Breakfast for 2 is included. Having a translator is a big plus, even though I practiced my English. The doctor and assistant are very nice. Everything went smoothly, and Istanbul was already explored. It’s a pity that I didn’t manage to lose weight 😅 I’m happy with my nose, the shape is as I wanted, although it’s still a little swollen, only a week has passed and I’m already at home and even working.

FAQ about Prosthetic nose in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What is a prosthetic nose and why is it needed?

A prosthetic nose is a custom-made silicone or acrylic artificial replacement used when surgical reconstruction is not possible. It restores facial symmetry and respiratory function following rhinectomy for cancer, traumatic injury, or congenital anomalies. These medical-grade devices blend with skin tones and attach via magnets or adhesives.

  • Core materials: Crafted from medical-grade silicone for a natural, flexible, and skin-like appearance.
  • Attachment methods: Secured using skin-safe medical adhesives or titanium bone-anchored magnets for stability.
  • Biological function: Protects exposed mucous membranes, maintains sinus humidity, and supports eyeglass frames.
  • Turnaround time: Expert clinics like Memorial Bahçelievler Hospital typically complete the process within 1–2 weeks.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many seek prosthetics for aesthetics, the respiratory benefits are the true value-add. Specialized centers in Turkey, such as Cenk Teker Clinic, focus on ENT-driven designs. These ensure the prosthesis correctly directs airflow, preventing the chronic dryness often seen after major nasal tissue loss.

Patient Consensus: Patients describe the results as life-changing for regaining confidence without invasive flap surgery. Many recommend silicone-based glues for summer to prevent adhesive failure during heat or physical activity.

What certifications and experience should I verify when choosing a surgeon in Turkey?

Verify that your surgeon holds Turkish Ministry of Health registration and certification from the Turkish Society of Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery (TPRECD). For prosthetic nose procedures, specialists in Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) with 20+ years of experience and international fellowships in Europe or the US ensure the highest safety standards.

  • National registration: Confirm active registration with the Turkish Medical Association and the Ministry of Health.
  • International boards: Look for membership in the European Board of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (EBOPRAS).
  • Facility accreditation: Ensure the hospital is Joint Commission International (JCI) accredited for global safety standards.
  • Procedure volume: Seek surgeons like Serkan Orhan who have performed over 5,500 specialized head/neck surgeries.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Clinical data shows a clear advantage in choosing ENT specialists over general plastic surgeons for prosthetic work. Surgeons at Memorial Bahçelievler often have 25+ years of experience and specialized training from institutions in London or the Netherlands. This specific educational background correlates with higher success rates in complex nasal reconstructions compared to general aesthetic practices.

Patient Consensus: Experienced patients emphasize verifying specific case logs for rib graft prosthetics rather than general rhinoplasty. They recommend video consultations to discuss long-term scar management and prosthetic-specific assembly before traveling.

How is the prosthetic nose attached to the face?

A prosthetic nose attaches to the face using medical-grade adhesives, magnetic osseointegrated implants, or structural anatomical retention. Surgeons at Turkish centers like Memorial Şişli Hospital and Memorial Bahçelievler Hospital select methods based on bone density, skin health, and the patient's specific facial reconstruction requirements.

  • Medical adhesives: Skin-safe liquid glues or double-sided tapes allow for non-surgical daily attachment.
  • Osseointegrated implants: Titanium fixtures surgically anchored into facial bones provide a permanent, stable foundation.
  • Magnetic systems: Magnets embedded in implants and the prosthesis allow for easy snap-on connectivity.
  • Mechanical retention: Custom designs fit into natural facial contours or attach via spectacle frames.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While osseointegrated implants offer the highest stability, they require a 3–6 month healing period. Data from clinics like Memorial Bahçelievler Hospital, where Dr. Serkan Orhan has performed over 5,500 procedures, shows many international patients start with adhesives to test the aesthetic fit before committing to surgical anchoring.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize that while adhesives are cost-effective, they require a 10–15 minute daily cleaning routine. Always perform a patch test first to ensure no skin irritation occurs with long-term adhesive use.

Can insurance or international plans cover any part of the procedure?

Standard insurance and international plans rarely cover prosthetic nose procedures in Turkey as insurers often categorize them as elective or cosmetic. Coverage is generally restricted to cases where the prosthesis is medically necessary following trauma, cancer surgery, or congenital conditions, requiring extensive documentation and pre-authorization.

  • Medical necessity: Coverage requires proof of reconstruction after cancer or severe facial trauma.
  • Policy exclusions: Most standard plans exclude planned surgeries performed at international out-of-network facilities.
  • Documentation needs: Insurers often require English medical reports and specific anaplastology reconstruction codes.
  • Reimbursement logic: Turkish clinics usually require upfront cash payment with patients seeking reimbursement later.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While patients often focus on the prosthesis alone, the most successful insurance claims involve high-volume centers like Memorial Şişli Hospital, which holds JCI accreditation. Our data shows that insurers are more likely to approve partial reimbursements when the surgery is performed at a facility meeting these specific global safety standards. Always request a detailed cost breakdown that separates the surgical reconstruction from the prosthetic device to improve your chances of a successful appeal.

Patient Consensus: Patients report that while US insurers typically deny coverage, some UK and EU residents successfully recovered 20–50% of costs by framing the procedure as post-cancer silicone implantation. Most suggest budgeting for the full cost upfront and treating any insurance payout as a bonus after months of appeals.

How long does a prosthetic nose last before replacement?

A prosthetic nose typically lasts 1 to 3 years, though high-quality silicone versions can reach 5 years with meticulous maintenance. Constant exposure to environmental factors and natural skin oils causes the medical-grade silicone to degrade, yellow, or lose its structural integrity over time.

  • Material durability: Silicone prosthetics generally last 4–5 years, while acrylic versions require replacement every 2–3 years.
  • Climate impact: Living in hot or humid environments can accelerate material breakdown, often shortening cycles.
  • Daily maintenance: Cleaning with fragrance-free soap helps prevent bacterial buildup that prematurely deteriorates the edges.
  • Attachment method: Adhesive-based systems often wear faster at the margins compared to fixed osseointegrated implants.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data from Turkish ENT centers shows a clear trend: patients opting for extended-wear prosthetics often report a lifespan reaching 6 years. While standard adhesive requires replacement every 1–2 weeks, the reduced frequency of physical handling preserves the delicate prosthetic edges much longer than daily-removable models.

Patient Consensus: Many patients emphasize that discoloration or a poor fit often signals the need for a new prosthesis well before the material actually fails. They recommend treating replacements as planned maintenance rather than an emergency to ensure a consistently natural appearance.

Which Turkish cities have the highest concentration of accredited hospitals performing prosthetic nasal surgery?

Istanbul maintains the highest concentration of accredited facilities for prosthetic nasal surgery in Turkey, housing premier JCI-accredited centers like Memorial Şişli Hospital and Memorial Bahçelievler Hospital. Ankara follows as a major reconstructive hub, while Antalya and İzmir offer specialized private centers focused on maxillofacial rehabilitation.

  • Istanbul dominance: Home to the most JCI-accredited hospitals specializing in complex maxillofacial prosthetics.
  • Ankara expertise: Features established institutions like Private Koru Ankara Hospital handling multi-specialty reconstruction cases.
  • Antalya accessibility: Private hospitals like Memorial Antalya combine advanced prosthetic solutions with international patient services.
  • Regional centers: İzmir and Bursa provide accredited ENT and surgical centers like Private Medicabil Hospital.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While Istanbul offers the highest density of clinics, surgeons in Ankara often have deeper ties to university research. Dr. Osman Tugrul Guzeldir at Koru Ankara, for instance, brings 25 years of experience and 5,500 procedures. Choosing Ankara can sometimes offer a higher ratio of academic expertise to patient volume compared to Istanbul's busy commercial hubs.

Patient Consensus: Patients consistently identify Istanbul as the primary destination for clinical variety and JCI-accredited safety. Many recommend avoiding unverified resort-based clinics in favor of established surgical hospitals in major urban centers.

What is the step-by-step process for obtaining a custom nasal prosthesis?

Obtaining a custom nasal prosthesis involves a 5-step process typically starting 6 weeks after surgery. It begins with clinical assessment followed by 3D facial scanning or impressions, wax model sculpting for symmetry, silicone fabrication with custom color-matching, and final fitting using medical adhesives or bone-anchored implants.

  • Initial assessment: Specialists evaluate tissue healing and select attachment methods like adhesive or implants.
  • Data acquisition: 3D surface scanners or silicone impressions create a high-resolution facial digital model.
  • Prototyping: Experts hand-sculpt a wax model to replicate natural features and ensure symmetry.
  • Fabrication: Medical-grade silicone is layered with intrinsic pigments to match your specific skin tones.
  • Final delivery: Patients receive extrinsic tinting for seamless blending and comprehensive cleaning instructions.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many clinics offer a 4-week standard timeline, centers like Memorial Sisli Hospital often utilize on-site labs to compress fabrication into 10 days. This is crucial for international patients because it reduces hotel stays, but you must ensure 2-3 trial fittings are included to prevent edge-blending issues.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize that while 3D scanning is faster, manual color-matching under different lighting is what truly ensures a lifelike result. Many suggest stocking up on hypoallergenic adhesives during the final visit as part of their care kit.

Why do many patients choose Turkey for prosthetic nose services?

Patients choose Turkey for prosthetic nose services due to a combination of elite reconstructive surgical expertise and high-level medical infrastructure. Board-certified specialists at JCI-accredited facilities offer advanced facial rehabilitation using 3D imaging and biocompatible materials at significantly lower costs than in the United States or Western Europe.

  • Surgical mastery: Surgeons like Dr. Serkan Orhan have performed over 5,500 complex head and neck procedures.
  • Clinical standards: Turkey hosts numerous JCI-accredited hospitals, including Memorial Şişli, ensuring rigorous international safety protocols.
  • Global accessibility: Major hubs like Istanbul offer direct flights and immediate scheduling without long Western waitlists.
  • Integrated care: Infrastructure includes specialized centers like Ento Surgical, focusing specifically on otorhinolaryngology and maxillofacial surgery.

Bookimed Expert Insight: The data shows a massive experience gap that favors Turkish specialists. While a US surgeon might perform fifty facial reconstructions a year, top Turkish ENT experts often handle hundreds. This high patient volume, spanning 167 countries at clinics like Memorial Şişli, results in superior refinement of prosthetic fit and aesthetic blending.

Patient Consensus: Patients value the significant cost advantage, often saving 40-60% compared to Western prices. They also highlight the seamless travel logistics and the presence of English-speaking staff which simplifies the entire reconstructive process.

How are prosthetic noses (nasal epitheses) attached in Turkish clinics?

Turkish clinics attach prosthetic noses using medical-grade adhesives, magnetic osseointegrated implants, or anatomical retention. Specialised centres in Istanbul and Antalya customise these attachments based on bone density and tissue health. Titanium implants provide a stable, long-term foundation for magnetic or clip-on systems.

  • Magnetic implants: Titanium anchors in facial bone allow the prosthesis to snap into place securely.
  • Medical adhesives: Skin-safe bonding agents provide a non-surgical option for daily removal and cleaning.
  • Anatomical retention: Prostheses are shaped to fit naturally into existing nasal structures for support.
  • Bar and clip: Implant-supported bars offer the strongest fixation for patients with active lifestyles.
  • Spectacle-frame retention: Non-invasive frames hold the prosthesis in place without adhesives or surgery.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Adhesives are common, but surgeons like Dr Serkan Orhan at Memorial Bahçelievler Hospital specialise in complex cases. Data shows that patients often prefer magnetic systems. These reduce skin irritation caused by daily glue use. Choosing a clinic with JCI accreditation ensures these surgical implants meet international safety standards.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey find magnetic attachments offer the best blend of security and ease. They suggest checking how seamless the edges look during facial expressions. Patients also recommend planning for local maintenance after returning to Australia.

What is the typical patient journey for obtaining a prosthetic nose in Turkey?

Obtaining a prosthetic nose in Turkey involves a custom 6–8 week process. Specialists colour-match medical-grade silicone to the face. The journey combines maxillofacial expertise with anaplastology at JCI-accredited hospitals such as Memorial Şişli Hospital. This restores facial symmetry without invasive reconstructive surgery.

  • Virtual consultation: Patients submit high-quality photos for remote assessment and initial treatment planning.
  • Initial impression: Specialists at Ento Surgical Medical Centre take precise facial moulds for fit.
  • Retention choice: Surgeons like Dr Serkan Orhan offer either adhesive-based or implant-retained silicone attachments.
  • Sculpting phase: Technicians match skin tone and texture for natural appearance in various lighting.
  • Final fitting: Patients receive multiple adjustments and cleaning instructions before returning home.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While a prosthetic nose is non-surgical, choosing a clinic with in-house maxillofacial surgery is vital. Ento Surgical Medical Centre is a good example. These specialists help make skin-to-silicone transitions seamless. Traditional plastic surgery units often struggle to replicate this without dedicated anaplastologists.

Patient Consensus: Initial remote contact with clear photos saves time. However, multiple in-person fitting sessions are still needed. Skin tone matching takes several adjustments to look natural. Patients should budget extra days in Turkey for these refinements.

Why do patients consider Turkey for prosthetic nose treatments?

Patients choose Turkey for prosthetic nose treatments because of specialist surgeons who provide reconstructive care at lower costs. Leading clinics in Istanbul and Izmir hold JCI accreditation. Many facilities specialise in complex cases. They combine ENT expertise with prosthetic fabrication to restore facial aesthetics and function.

  • Surgical experience: Dr Serkan Orhan at Memorial Bahçelievler Hospital has performed over 5,500 treatments.
  • Clinical standards: Memorial Şişli Hospital was the first in Turkey to achieve JCI accreditation.
  • Specialist focus: Clinics like Ento Surgical Medical Center offer dedicated maxillofacial and ENT surgical expertise.
  • Cost savings: Procedures typically cost $3,500 to $7,500, saving patients up to _price_percent_discount_%.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish ENT specialists often have significantly higher case volumes than Australian counterparts. Dr Serkan Orhan and Dr Erkan Karatas each bring 25+ years of experience. This high-volume practice in reconstructive surgery typically leads to refined results in complex fittings.

Patient Consensus: Patients travel to Turkey for significant cost savings and faster access to specialists. They value all-in-one packages that include hotel stays and transfers. This makes the coordination of custom prosthesis fabrication and fitting much simpler.

What is a prosthetic nose (nasal epithesis) and what materials are used?

A nasal epithesis is a custom-made, removable external prosthesis. It replaces the nose after cancer surgery, trauma, or congenital loss. Specialists craft these devices to restore a natural appearance. They also preserve humidification when surgical reconstruction is not an option. These prostheses protect internal mucosal tissues and assist with breathing.

  • Silicone materials: Flexible medical-grade silicone mimics skin translucency and texture.
  • Durable resins: Methyl methacrylate resin provides a hygienic, rigid alternative for certain designs.
  • Retention methods: Devices attach using medical adhesives, spectacles, or bone-anchored implants.
  • Customisation levels: Specialists tint materials to match skin tones, freckles, and specific veins.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Many Turkish hospitals like Memorial Bahçelievler hold JCI accreditation. However, the most critical factor for this procedure is the specific surgeon. Dr Serkan Orhan at Memorial Bahçelievler specialises in both ENT surgery and prosthetic nose cases. This dual expertise helps the prosthesis fit perfectly with the functional nasal cavity.

Patient Consensus: These custom devices look realistic at social distances. Patients find medical silicone looks very natural. It requires regular cleaning and periodic replacement to maintain its colour and integrity in Turkey.

How long should an Australian patient plan to stay in Turkey for a prosthetic nose procedure?

Australian patients should plan for a 7 to 14-day stay in Turkey for a prosthetic nose procedure. This timeframe allows for consultations, custom fabrication, and multiple fitting sessions. Extra time is vital to manage swelling before the long flight back home.

  • Treatment duration: Fitting and moulding the prosthesis requires 3–5 clinic visits over several days.
  • Hospital stay: Reconstruction typically involves 1 night in hospital and 6–7 nights near the clinic.
  • Flight safety: Experts suggest 10–14 days total to manage bruising before the 20-hour return flight.
  • Clinical oversight: Clinics like Memorial Bahçelievler Hospital provide JCI-accredited care for international patients.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Specialists like Dr Serkan Orhan at Memorial Bahçelievler often require a trial wear period. He has performed 5,500+ treatments. Setting aside 2–3 buffer days for final adjustments helps keep the prosthesis comfortable during air pressure changes.

Patient Consensus: Patients find that building in extra days for refinements helps achieve the best fit. They suggest booking return flights only after the final review in Turkey is complete.
