Only 15 days after my laser vein treatment, the veins on both of my legs are completely gone
The most surprising thing is that only 15 days after my laser vein treatment, the veins on both of my legs are completely gone. I wasn't expecting such a clear result this early in recovery. It feels great. From the surgeon to the administrative staff, every person I interacted with at the clinic was professional and genuinely kind, which made the entire process feel very secure. The care I received was excellent and the support provided during this initial healing period has been very reassuring. I'm grateful for the positive outcome and the good service.

To be honest, I am not very satisfied with their work, because after the procedure of sclerotherapy appeared on the arm a large bruise, it hurt and did not pass for a long time for two weeks or more. Also after the procedure in the vein that I was injected with it as it was such and remained, the procedure I consider useless if partially gone, but remained most of the visible.

FAQ about Stenting of Arterial Dissection in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

How long is the recovery time after a stenting procedure for arterial dissection?

Most patients achieve full recovery within one month after arterial dissection stenting. Initial recovery is rapid, allowing a return to light activities in 7 days. High-intensity exercise or heavy lifting requires 2 to 4 weeks of healing to ensure stent stability and prevent complications.

  • Hospital stay: Most patients are discharged within 1 to 3 days from Istanbul JCI-accredited clinics.
  • Initial restrictions: Avoid driving and sudden neck movements for at least 48 hours post-procedure.
  • Work return: Desk employees typically resume duties at 2 weeks, while physical jobs require 2 months.
  • Activity limits: Postpone lifting over 20 pounds and high-impact aerobics for at least 14 days.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While basic healing takes 30 days, true recovery aligns with your medication timeline. Leading Turkish cardiologists like Dr. Gokhan Ertas often prescribe dual antiplatelet therapy for 3 to 12 months. This extended pharmaceutical phase is the actual window for long-term arterial stabilization and clot prevention.

Patient Consensus: Many patients underestimate post-surgical fatigue and persistent neck stiffness during the first month. Success often depends on having a neck pillow and soft foods ready for the first week.

What are the risks and possible complications of arterial stenting?

Arterial stenting is a safe procedure with a 90% success rate in specialized Turkish centers. Primary risks include access site bleeding, stent thrombosis, or vessel dissection. Long-term complications like restenosis or migration are managed through precise imaging and dual antiplatelet therapy monitored by JCI-accredited hospitals.

  • Procedural risks: Catheters may cause arterial tears, ruptures, or hematomas at the entry site.
  • Thrombosis danger: Blood clots can form within stents, potentially leading to heart attack or stroke.
  • Restenosis rate: Artery re-narrowing due to scar tissue occurs in 20% to 30% of cases.
  • Contrast reaction: Imaging dyes may cause allergic reactions or temporary acute kidney injury.
  • Neurological symptoms: Hyperperfusion syndrome after blood flow restoration can cause sudden headaches or seizures.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish hospitals like Medipol Mega and Memorial Şişli serve over 1,000,000 patients annually. This high volume is a quality signal. Our data shows that top-tier surgeons like Professor Gokhan Ertas use advanced embolic protection devices. These tools significantly lower stroke risks during complex carotid artery dissections.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize the importance of 6-month imaging follow-ups to catch early re-narrowing. Many report that clear communication about blood thinner side effects helped them manage recovery without anxiety.

What are the success rates for vascular stenting procedures in Turkey?

Vascular stenting success rates in Turkey range from 90% to 95% for most arterial interventions. Specialized centers in Istanbul utilize drug-eluting stents and bioresorbable scaffolds within Joint Commission International accredited facilities. Procedures like carotid stenting often reach 96% technical success while maintaining low complication rates.

  • Coronary stenting: Clinics achieve 95% success restoring blood flow and reducing ischemic symptoms effectively.
  • Carotid interventions: Specialized vascular units report 95% to 96% success for arteries supplying the brain.
  • Peripheral stenting: Procedures for limb blockages maintain 90% to 95% efficacy across major Turkish hospitals.
  • Renal stenting: Minimally invasive treatments for renal artery stenosis show a consistent 95% success rate.

Bookimed Expert Insight: High-volume centers like Medipol Mega University Hospital serve over 1,200 patients daily, creating a massive procedural volume that sharpens surgical precision. While many choose Turkey for 30-50% cost savings, the real advantage is the concentration of Professor-level specialists like Gokhan Ertas who possess over 20 years of clinical and academic experience.

Patient Consensus: Many patients achieve full neurological recovery but warn that the full healing process can take 6-12 months. Travelers often find managing long-term blood thinners and getting follow-up scans at home the most challenging aspects of going abroad.

What is covered in typical international patient packages for arterial stenting?

International patient packages for arterial stenting in Turkey typically bundle surgical fees, specialized medical devices, and comprehensive logistics. These all-inclusive plans usually cover pre-operative angiography, the stent implant, and intensive care monitoring at JCI-accredited facilities like Memorial Şişli Hospital or Medipol Mega University Hospital.

  • Medical services: Includes diagnostic blood tests, electrocardiograms, and interventional cardiology fees.
  • Specialized devices: Covers drug-eluting or bare-metal stents and essential delivery catheters.
  • Hospital stay: Provides 1–3 nights in specialized units or private recovery rooms.
  • Logistics support: Includes VIP airport transfers, hotel stays, and professional translation services.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data from top-tier Istanbul clinics shows a trend toward long-term remote care. Facilities like Medipol Mega University Hospital now offer 1-year digital follow-up. This is vital for monitoring arterial healing without requiring extra international travel.

Patient Consensus: Patients value packages that include 4–5 star hotel stays for easier recovery. They recommend budgeting 20% extra for potential extended monitoring or medications not in the base quote.

Which cities in Turkey offer the most specialized centers for arterial dissection stenting?

Istanbul, Ankara, and Antalya are Turkey's primary hubs for specialized arterial dissection stenting. Istanbul lead with the highest concentration of JCI-accredited hospitals, such as Memorial Şişli and Medipol Mega, which feature advanced catheterization labs and multidisciplinary vascular units for complex endovascular repairs.

  • Istanbul facilities: Memorial Şişli was Turkey first JCI-accredited hospital for complex neurointerventional stenting.
  • Ankara centers: Hacettepe University and Memorial Ankara provide specialized cardiovascular services with academic expertise.
  • Antalya care: Memorial Antalya offers international patients high-end vascular diagnostics using advanced MRI and CT.
  • Specialized technology: Top centers utilize Flash-CT imaging and drug-eluting stents for superior long-term patency.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Istanbul remains the undisputed leader for this procedure due to sheer volume and infrastructure. Memorial Şişli alone manages over 50,000 international patients annually. While Ankara is excellent for complex cases via university hospitals, Istanbul centers like Medipol Mega offer higher daily capacity with 810 beds and dedicated neurointerventional teams.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize choosing high-volume Istanbul centers for complex stent placements. They recommend using teleconsultations to confirm a surgeon's specific experience with arterial dissections before traveling.

When is stenting for arterial dissection recommended by specialists in Turkey?

Specialists in Turkey recommend stenting for arterial dissection when medical management fails. It is also used if high-risk complications arise. It is typically for patients with persistent symptoms or severe stenosis over 70%. It also treats pseudoaneurysm formation. Interventional neuroradiologists perform these procedures in JCI-accredited facilities to prevent major ischaemic strokes.

  • Failed medical therapy: Persistent symptoms despite optimal anticoagulation or antiplatelet medication protocols.
  • Critical artery narrowing: Significant luminal stenosis, usually over 70%, severely restricting blood flow.
  • Haemodynamic compromise: Poor intracranial circulation where the dissection hinders vital blood flow.
  • Pseudoaneurysm formation: Development of a balloon-like bulge at risk of rupture or embolism.
  • High stroke risk: Significant plaque disruption or severe narrowing putting the brain at risk.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish centres like Medipol Mega University Hospital serve 1,000,000+ patients annually. This high volume means specialists are proficient in managing complex dissections. These cases are rarely seen in mid-size clinics. Patients should note that angiography-ready theatres are essential for these interventions.

Patient Consensus: Patients find that Turkish specialists often start with conservative medication. This includes close imaging follow-up. They recommend asking about the long-term antiplatelet therapy required after a stent is placed.

What is the clinical success rate for arterial dissection stenting in Turkey?

Clinical success rates for arterial dissection stenting in Turkey range from 90% to 96% in specialised vascular units. Leading Istanbul centres achieve 95% to 96% success for carotid artery procedures. These facilities use drug-eluting stents to reach 90% to 95% success for peripheral limb stenting.

  • Carotid success: Specialised centres report 95% to 96% success for arteries supplying the brain.
  • Peripheral stenting: Limb blockage procedures maintain 90% to 95% success for restoring blood flow.
  • Accredited facilities: Memorial Şişli Hospital was the first in Turkey to earn JCI accreditation.
  • Specialist expertise: Professors like Dr Gokhan Ertas have 20+ years of cardiovascular experience.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While general success is 90%+, high-volume hospitals like Medipol Mega serve 1,200+ patients daily. This volume allows vascular teams to manage complex dissections that smaller clinics rarely see. Patients should ask for surgeon-specific patency rates at the 12-month mark.

Patient Consensus: Success depends on the artery reopening and remaining open without further complications. Patients recommend obtaining copies of all imaging and a detailed medication plan before returning to Australia.

What is the recovery process like following stenting for arterial dissection in Turkey?

Recovery after arterial dissection stenting in Turkey normally involves 1–2 days of hospital monitoring. This helps manage blood pressure and prevent complications. Patients typically return to light activities within 2 weeks. They must follow a strict antiplatelet medication regimen. Specialist follow-up includes regular imaging to check the stent remains functional.

  • Hospital discharge: Patients usually leave hospital within 48 hours if no complications occur.
  • Medication adherence: Taking prescribed blood thinners is essential to prevent blood clots or re-occlusion.
  • Activity levels: Patients should avoid heavy lifting for several weeks as directed by their Turkish surgeon.
  • Surveillance imaging: Regular Doppler ultrasounds or imaging scans track healing for the first year.
  • Istanbul stays: Patients should remain in the city for 3–7 days for post-discharge checks.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Bookimed data shows that major Istanbul centres like Medipol Bahçelievler University Hospital perform complex carotid artery procedures. These hospitals have modern facilities opened as recently as 2022. Procedure costs from $5,500 to $11,500 are about 53% lower than the $18,000 Australian average. The real value lies in the volume. These centres treat up to 1,200 patients daily. This means specialists are highly experienced in managing arterial repairs.

Patient Consensus: Expect intensive monitoring with repeated imaging every 3 months during the first year of recovery. Most patients focus on long-term lifestyle changes and blood pressure management for lasting success.

How should an Australian patient prepare for an arterial dissection stenting procedure in Turkey?

Australian patients preparing for arterial dissection stenting in Turkey must prioritise medical documentation and medication planning. This procedure costs from $5,500 to $11,500 at JCI-accredited centres. Preparation involves stabilising blood pressure and starting antiplatelet therapy under specialist guidance. Patients should also secure digital copies of CT angiography scans.

  • Imaging records: Bring CT or MRI angiography images on a USB and original radiology reports.
  • Medication protocol: Start antiplatelet drugs like aspirin or clopidogrel daily for 7+ days before surgery.
  • Clinical consultation: Coordinate with specialists like Dr Gokhan Ertas at Memorial Şişli Hospital before travel.
  • Home care plan: Arrange follow-up with an Australian GP or vascular specialist for long-term monitoring.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Bookimed data shows high volumes for complex vascular care at centres like Medipol Mega. These clinics serve 1,200+ patients daily and maintain JCI standards. Patients should choose hospitals with specialised intensive care units. Arterial stenting sometimes requires overnight ICU observation for blood pressure management.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey recommend confirming the specific stent approach and backup plans with the surgeon. They suggest allowing a recovery buffer in Istanbul before flying home to Australia.

How long will I need to stay in Turkey for an arterial dissection stenting procedure?

Patients typically require 7 to 10 days in Turkey for arterial dissection stenting. Initial hospital monitoring lasts 1 to 3 days. This is followed by several days of local observation. It allows specialists at JCI-accredited centres like Memorial Şişli Hospital to confirm stability. They also perform imaging before the flight home.

  • Hospitalisation period: Spend 1 to 3 days in theatre units for monitoring after stenting.
  • Initial recovery: Allow 72 hours for vital observation immediately following the arterial procedure.
  • Fitness to fly: Remain in Istanbul for 7 days total to check cardiovascular stability.
  • Clinical review: Attend a follow-up appointment within 7 days to check the access site.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While basic angioplasty starts from $3,500, dissection cases often require specialised intensive care monitoring. Centres like Medipol Bahçelievler use PET-CT and rapid scanning to monitor arterial flow post-stenting. Booking a 10-day stay is safer than 7 days. Doctors may request extra imaging if access-site healing is slow.

Patient Consensus: Travellers advise against booking return flights for the same week as surgery. Patients suggest staying near the hospital for several days to manage medications. This ensures clear post-discharge instructions are in place.
