Verified review.
At the reception they do not know the names of the tests. They talk to each other about me in the third person, “he, him.” Incompetent. I was sent to the clinic to take all the tests in one place. As a result, it turned out that I had to visit three of their branches to take tests, which I could not do and they knew about it. I drove 70 kilometers to them. They sent me to another branch, like I'll rent everything there. And there is a flashlight, some of the analyzes say they do not.

FAQ about Diagnostics in Ukraine

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Is it safe to travel to Ukraine for medical diagnostics right now?

Traveling to Ukraine for medical diagnostics is currently rated as high-risk due to the ongoing conflict. While clinics in Kyiv and Uzhhorod remain operational, frequent air alerts and power outages can disrupt specialized procedures. International travel advisories currently place the country under strict do-not-travel warnings.

  • Travel warnings: Most governments maintain Level 4 advisories due to missile and drone strikes.
  • Logistics: Active airspace closures require long overland travel via Poland or other borders.
  • Infrastructure: Facilities like Impuls Medical Center use high-powered diesel generators to maintain stability.
  • Clinic operations: Expert Clinic in Uzhhorod currently serves 15,000 patients yearly in safer regions.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data shows a shift in patient volume toward western cities like Uzhhorod. Expert Clinic there reports serving 15,000 patients annually despite the conflict. This suggests that while Kyiv remains a medical hub, patients prioritize clinics closer to the EU border for more consistent diagnostics and fewer air-related delays.

Patient Consensus: Patients note that air raid sirens can halt medical scans mid-procedure, forcing immediate evacuation. Many suggest seeking similar low-cost diagnostic options in neighboring Poland or Turkey to avoid the unpredictability of local blackouts.

How can I verify the quality and accreditation of a diagnostic facility?

Verify diagnostic quality in Ukraine by checking the Ministry of Health registry for active licenses. Look for ISO 15189 certification to ensure international laboratory standards. Top facilities like ISIDA Clinic and ICSI Clinic maintain ISO credentials. These certifications guarantee reliable testing and patient safety protocols.

  • Official registry: Search the Ministry of Health database for valid medical licenses.
  • ISO certification: Confirm ISO 15189 or ISO 9001 compliance for quality management.
  • Equipment standards: Modern centers like Sciedece use 3D imaging for precise radiographic diagnostics.
  • Clinical volume: Centers serving 200,000+ patients yearly, like ADONIS, demonstrate established clinical trust.

Bookimed Expert Insight: High-volume clinics often provide more reliable diagnostics due to constant equipment calibration. For example, Dievo Surgery Center serves 4,000 patients annually and maintains 17 specialized departments. This volume ensures that diagnostic teams handle diverse cases daily, which typically sharpens result accuracy compared to smaller labs.

Patient Consensus: Patients suggest verifying the facility license number independently on the Ministry of Health website. They note that some advertised clinics may lack the specific permits required for complex lab tests.

Is English commonly spoken in Ukrainian diagnostic centers?

Private Ukrainian diagnostic centers in major cities like Kyiv commonly offer English-speaking services for international patients. While state-run facilities may have limited proficiency, high-end clinics provide translated documentation and bilingual medical staff. Many top centers now employ dedicated international departments to assist with diagnostics.

  • International support: ADONIS Fertility Center features a 20-person team for foreign patient coordination.
  • Language accessibility: Elite private clinics in Kyiv and Lviv provide English medical reports.
  • City hubs: English proficiency is highest in Kyiv centers like Dievo Surgery Center.
  • Legal standards: A 2024 law establishes English as a language for international communication.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data shows that clinics serving over 4,000 international patients annually, like Dievo Surgery Center and ADONIS, provide the most reliable English support. These centers often have higher ratings, averaging 4.7 to 5.0, because they eliminate language barriers in complex diagnostics like MRI or CT scans. Smaller clinics or those in regional cities like Uzhhorod may require a translator for technical discussions.

Patient Consensus: Patients note that while receptionists at major clinics often speak English, technicians performing tests like ultrasounds might not. They recommend having a translation app ready or coordinating everything through a dedicated English-speaking representative to avoid confusion during the visit.

What are the primary hubs for medical diagnostics in Ukraine?

Kyiv serves as the primary diagnostic hub in Ukraine, hosting the highest density of specialized imaging and laboratory centers. Other significant regional hubs include Lviv and Uzhhorod. These cities provide advanced screenings like MRI, CT, and genetic testing through massive private networks and multidisciplinary clinics.

  • Kyiv centers: ADONIS Fertility Center operates specialized MRI and cytogenetic laboratory facilities.
  • Surgical diagnostics: Dievo Surgery Center in Kyiv serves 4,000 patients annually for urology.
  • Western hubs: Expert Clinic in Uzhhorod performs 15,000 annual diagnostic and clinical sessions.
  • Specialized imaging: Sciedece Scientific Center in Kyiv focuses on 3D radiographic dental diagnostics.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While Kyiv is the clear leader for complex imaging, our data shows that clinics in Western Ukraine like Expert Clinic in Uzhhorod and Kyivska Russ in Lviv are seeing higher patient volumes. These centers often maintain 4.7+ ratings by offering streamlined navigation and comprehensive post-operative care in regions considered more stable.

Patient Consensus: Patients note that while basic labs are available locally, traveling to Kyiv is often necessary for advanced imaging like PET-CT. Those using private clinics emphasize that the faster access and modern equipment are worth the higher costs compared to state facilities.

How long are the wait times for diagnostic testing in Ukraine?

Private clinics in Ukraine offer diagnostic results within 1 to 3 days. Public healthcare facilities often face delays ranging from several days to over 2 months. Factors like power outages and regional location significantly influence wait times for CT scans and complex laboratory testing.

  • Private clinic speed: Results for bloodwork or ultrasounds typically arrive within 1 day.
  • Advanced imaging: MRI and CT scans in Kyiv require only 1 to 2 days.
  • Public system delays: Cancer screenings in public hospitals may take up to 2 months.
  • Strategic locations: Clinics in Uzhhorod or Lviv often provide faster access than eastern regions.

Bookimed Expert Insight: High patient volumes at clinics like Expert Clinic, which serves 15,000 patients annually, suggest streamlined internal logistics. Facilities equipped with high-powered diesel generators, such as Impuls Medical Center, maintain diagnostic schedules during municipal power outages. This infrastructure prevents the typical 3 to 10-day delays seen in less prepared centers.

Patient Consensus: Patients find that paying cash at private labs is the fastest way to get results. Most note it is important to prepare for unexpected scheduling shifts due to local infrastructure challenges.

What preventative screening programs are available for locals in Ukraine?

Ukraine provides free preventative screening programs through the National Health Service (NHSU) and the Program of Medical Guarantees. Citizens aged 40 and older receive an invitation via the Diia app for comprehensive cardiovascular and diabetes checks. These services are available at participating state and private medical facilities.

  • Oncology screenings: Includes free mammography for women 50–69 and Pap smears every 3 years.
  • Diagnostic access: Patients must register with a family doctor via eHealth to receive referrals.
  • Primary care: Covers annual physicals, blood pressure monitoring, and free HIV or hepatitis testing.
  • Additional services: Free HPV vaccinations are available for girls aged 12 to 13 since 2026.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Kyiv clinics like ADONIS Fertility Center and ISIDA Clinic serve over 200,000 patients by combining state-funded diagnostics with private efficiency. Data shows that while basic screenings are free, using private centers for specialized diagnostics like MRI or CT often reduces wait times. This is especially true in cities like Kyiv and Uzhhorod where facility density is highest.

Patient Consensus: Patients note that while the Diia app makes getting invitations easy, they often face 3-to-6-month waits for specific tests like colonoscopies. Many suggest using private labs for faster results if public equipment is unavailable in rural areas.

Is it safe to travel to Ukraine for diagnostics in 2026?

Travelling to Ukraine for diagnostics in 2026 involves significant safety risks due to the active conflict. Major governments advise against all travel because the security environment remains volatile. Medical facilities in Kyiv and Lviv operate under defence shields. However, military action still presents high risks.

  • Security conditions: Situations can deteriorate quickly across the entire country with little warning.
  • Infrastructure reliability: Clinics like Impuls Medical Center use diesel generators for power backup.
  • Hospital readiness: Centres like Dievo Surgery Center maintain 24/7 intensive care units and inpatient support.
  • Accredited facilities: Kyiv clinics such as ISIDA and ICSI maintain ISO international standards despite challenges.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Kyiv clinics have adapted to infrastructure instability by installing independent power and oxygen supplies. Impuls Medical Center and Dievo Surgery Center provide critical care backups. These include ventilators and resuscitation equipment. This technical resilience allows complex diagnostics to continue. Still, it cannot neutralise the broader risks of active conflict zones.

Patient Consensus: Patients note that clinics maintain high standards and clear communication. However, air-raid alerts and transport issues make travel difficult. Experience shows that doctors are professional and responsive. Even so, the security environment in Ukraine remains the primary concern for international visitors.

Are advanced cancer diagnostics, such as PET/CT, available in Ukraine?

Cancer diagnostics including PET/CT scans are available in major Ukrainian cities. These scans are the standard for staging lymphoma and other malignancies. Facilities in Kyiv and Lviv provide imaging following international ESMO and NCCN guidelines for clinical accuracy.

  • Technological centres: PET/CT services are concentrated in major hubs like Kyiv for quality control.
  • Clinical integration: Centres like Expert Clinic in Uzhhorod offer full cycles from diagnosis to rehab.
  • Accredited facilities: Clinics such as ISIDA hold ISO certification for international patient care standards.
  • Specialised support: ADONIS Fertility Center operates an international department for foreign patient coordination.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Kyiv clinics often provide diagnostic results faster than regional centres due to on-site laboratories. Impuls Medical Center uses high-powered diesel generators for uninterrupted power for imaging equipment. This technical reliability means that vital cancer screenings proceed without delay regardless of infrastructure challenges.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Ukraine note that finding all tests in one facility is convenient. They recommend checking report turnaround times. Patients should also confirm if radiologists can provide results in English for international use.

Are diagnostic results from Ukrainian clinics provided in English?

Diagnostic results from private Ukrainian clinics are provided in English. Major centres in Kyiv and Lviv employ international departments to support foreign patients. A 2024 law establishes English as the language for international communication. This means documentation for scans and lab tests remains accessible for Australian patients.

  • International coordination: ADONIS Fertility Center features a dedicated team of 20+ professionals for foreign patients.
  • Specific documentation: Dievo Surgery Center frequently issues surgical reports and diagnostic findings in English.
  • Diverse diagnostics: Facilities provide English reports for MRI, CT scans, and comprehensive blood work.
  • Patient support: Clinics like ISIDA and Dievo regularly treat patients from Europe and Australia.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Clinics with international departments, such as ADONIS Fertility Center, often provide English results quickly. These departments handle over 5,000 patients annually and specialise in translating complex reports. Check if the clinic includes an English summary in the diagnostic fee to avoid extra costs.

Patient Consensus: Patients note that while treatment is excellent, it is vital to confirm details in writing. Specifically, check that lab values and doctor interpretations will be in English. Confirming these details via email before the appointment ensures a smooth experience in Kyiv.

What are the recommended diagnostic centres for MRI or CT scans in Ukraine?

Ukraine offers diagnostic centres equipped with digital imaging technology. Recommended facilities include ADONIS Fertility Center and Impuls Medical Center in Kyiv. These centres provide on-site MRI and CT services. They use 3D radiographic imaging and maintain intensive care units for complex cases.

  • On-site imaging: ADONIS Fertility Center features a dedicated MRI centre and cytogenetic laboratory services.
  • Specialised technology: Sciedece Scientific Center provides 3D imaging radiographic diagnostics for precise internal mapping.
  • Continuous care: Impuls Medical Center provides 24/7 diagnostics supported by high-powered diesel electricity generators.
  • Comprehensive screening: Expert Clinic in Uzhhorod offers endoscopic diagnostics including gastroscopy and colonoscopy.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Ukrainian diagnostic centres like Dievo Surgery Center and Impuls Medical Center prioritise infrastructure reliability. They maintain on-site intensive care units and independent power generators. This helps critical imaging equipment like MRI and CT scanners remain fully operational for patient safety.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Ukraine advise selecting centres with newer scanners. They also suggest confirming that digital copies of reports are available for future use. Many found that visiting clinics with on-site radiologists helped them obtain faster results.

What is included in a typical full-body diagnostic check-up in Ukraine?

Full-body diagnostic check-ups in Ukraine provide a comprehensive health assessment. Packages typically include specialist consultations, lab work, and imaging. Standard packages range from $12 to $100. These screenings identify underlying conditions using diagnostics like ultrasound and CT scans.

  • Provider consultations: Includes initial GP evaluation and specialist reviews with cardiologists or gynaecologists.
  • Blood and urine: Covers complete blood counts, metabolic panels, liver function, and glucose levels.
  • Imaging diagnostics: Features ultrasound of the abdomen, kidneys, thyroid, and cardiovascular screening via ECG.
  • Specialised screenings: Includes urogenital smears, infectious disease tests, and often a colonoscopy if required.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Ukrainian clinics like Impuls Medical Center use on-site laboratories for rapid test results. This allows patients to complete a 29-indicator blood screen and organ ultrasounds in one day. Some centres also maintain backup power generators to prevent disruption in diagnostic schedules.

Patient Consensus: Visitors note the convenience of having all tests performed in one facility. They appreciate clear answers from specialists and the professional coordination provided during health screenings in Ukraine.
